You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a medium-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.
At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.
Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.
Hit Points: 30 HP Damage: 4 HP each time you attack
If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.
Either outcome, once finished witth at least 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:
1-10: You are bitten during the attack, and are turned into an animal! Size is determined by your weapon: agile weapons become small animals, balanced become medium sized, and heavy become large. 11-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 41-99: Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it. 100: Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

What a strange turn of events where Beth was dragging someone else out into the smelly, gross swamp. She had no idea if what she was doing was right or helpful or what, but it certainly beat being curled up on a bedroll in the inn. "Oh, come on, Lex, I promise we'll be fine. We make the best team! What's the worst that could happen?" Of course, as soon as she said it, her mind came up with plenty of answers to that question, each more horrible than the last. Still, she forced herself to push through it.
They walked a distance before Beth saw it, leaping its way through the swamp, progress hampered by the jaunty cap that had been perched on its head and no doubt slipped over its eyes. Gaze gleaming, she pulled her whip out and stalked towards it. As her heel snapped a twig beneath it, the red fox froze and then growled, swiveling to face her though it could not see her. Without quite thinking of what she was doing, she whirled her whip over her head and brought it down, knocking the cap back and uncovering its scared eyes. Beth faltered for a second before it snarled and leaped at her, raking through her skirt and several petticoats to claw at her leg.
When she stopped to think, perhaps she deserved it.

Lex snorted, letting themselves get towed back into the swamp. “Ooh, Beth, darling. Don’t tempt the fates into finding the worse thing to throw at us.” Murphy had a sharp razor and a wicked, wicked humor when it came to this sort of thing.
“And I think this might have been good for you, that was a rather nice hit.” And the poor thing was in a cap. That was sort of adorable! “Hey, no, bad fox. Though I think we both have to admit our clothing is ruined.” They moved forward and struck at the fox, hitting and danced away at the flare of claws, pants ripping down the side.
“Guess that was going to happen sometime.”

Her hesitation came flooding back as she realized the hurt she caused. And though she knew Lex was trying to encourage her, their words only made her feel worse. She shouldn't be trying to get better at hurting animals! She slung out and winced as she was too slow to avoid the claws again.
"Yes, I think we're due for a shopping spree!" She called back, keeping her cheer up admirably.

“Where at? There are so many places to go on a shopping spree, I’m not very sure where we should start.” Lex questioned, moving around, getting into the rhythm of the fight and lashed out as claws raked over them. They shrugged off the scratches, focusing on making sure the fox was in their sights and that Beth was doing okay.

Beth was too preoccupied with trying to figure out where she first wanted to go to revamp her wardrobe to really focus on their foxy opponent. "Well, McQueen's collections this time of year are always to die for." She mused, carelessly flicking her whip somewhere in the direction of the fox. "And Ward's always nice, but favors gowns and unless we start holding balls at the Prytaneum...." Her eyes glazed over as she wondered what she would have to do to put on such a soiree, and she almost didn't notice when her foot got clawed.
Beth squealed and jumped away. It took her a moment to regain her footing, as she was almost tripped by some overgrown roots. Once she had, she finished with, "And Siriano's lovely, really, but I only buy his bags."

Lex faintly recalled a few things said, enough to know that they were very, very expensive and well beyond their paygrade. Those they were, very, very pretty, and totally would be worth just trying them on. “Hmm, well, you would think the Prytaneum would already have some sort of fancy ball. I mean it more fairytaleish but considering we are fighting a fox that was a while ago human, I could see an official ball.” It could be very, very fun. They struck out at the fox, and backed pedal as it hissed the spitting animal turned, and desperately clawing at his legs. Lex pulled themselves up, using a tree branch to keep away from the sharp claws and twisted, swinging themselves up onto it.
They straddled the tree branch and frowned at the fox. “I swear; this is not what I had plans to be doing today. Not at all.” They shifted and fingered their pants, breaking off clumps of dirt and mud. A bit of lifting showed that the cuffs had been torn and the seam had broken nearly all the way up to their knee. “Thank you! I now need new pants.” And they hadn’t brought a change of clothes. Not at all.
“Does any of those places make jewel toned or lavender, blue, grey dresses?” They questioned, turning back to shopping. They were in a tree, but that wasn’t going to stop them from focusing on the question of did any of those places make shades that looked good on them.
“What about for makeup? Or mmh, jewelry? I’m rather partial towards vintage styles, silver and white gold.” No yellow gold, it was brassy looking and really, personally they thought it looked cheap. Nearly all their jewelry was silver or white gold and one of a kind unique made from venders at the local craft fairs. Though they had inherited a few pieces from their grandmother. The pearls were pretty.

The fox looked hurt but not quite willing to surrender. Beth swallowed. What if she killed it? There was nothing to do but try. She gave a light flick. "It's okay, little guy," She held out her hand, and gently pet the fox. It didn't snap at her. In fact, it looked liable to take a nap. With a self satisfied smile, she said, "Another one for the books, Lex."

Lex swung down and landed slowly, walking to the fox. "A rather handsome one to add to the books. I always rather like foxes. They are just so pretty." They reached out to carefully stroke over the ears. "Hey, fella, you going to be fine." They paused, pulling away with a new flower.
Beth smiled brightly at Lex. "We can go all over your new wardrobe back at camp. What do you say?" The smile wavered as a searing pain went through her head. She gasped, putting her hands to her head. She felt sick and tingly, like cobwebs over her skin. She doubled over, landing next to the fox, who looked at her mournfully.
"Noooo," She gasped having an idea of what was happening to her. "My clothes!" Though she had given them up as a lost cause, she still wasn't ready to see them ripped to shreds by her own transforming body.
She needn't have worried.
Instead of growing larger, she started shrinking. Lex, who was already taller than her, grew gigantic and the fox came closer. Then the fox disappeared as her eye line retreated under the fabric of her collar. Soon, the magnificent coat, dress, and petticoats were empty as if they were characters in a shoddily written morality play about the Apocalypse. But a small lump scurried around underneath the fabric. From the sleeve, a small, twitching nose poked out, followed quickly by black beady eyes and a fuzzy brown body.
There was danger, danger everywhere, and Beth's little rodent heart pounded in terror. With a sharp squeak, she took off, soon lost in the underbrush of the bayou.
Beth has been transformed into a dormouse!

"Beth?" Lex called, concerned, moving towards her. "Are you feeling sick?" They scooped up the fox, cuddling the soft furry creature close and frowned, watching Beth dwindle.
Holy, "Beth?" They called, moving quickly to the puddle of clothing and just caught the small tiny shape of a mouse peering out and darting off.
... Beth was a mouse. Why was she a mouse! They gathered her clothing, she was going to want that, and shifted the fox more secured in their arms. ... Okay, they need Brian and a lot of people.
