Tobia swayed as they walked, whistling a soft tune under their breathe that matched the soft twitter of the cicadas. They had been a stage of calm recently, the normal stirring of discontent having been pressed down and smothered into almost non-existance. They were under no illusion as to what the cause once, and a giddy bubble of happiness blossomed in their chest at the thought of strong black and white shoulders and the warmest, sweetest smile. Tobia had long resigned themselves to being able to find real, true love; the lands were much more open to those who were different these days but even then, many did not welcome one such as them into their arms. At least, Tobia thought with an undertone of poorly veiled bitterness, to keep. Lately, however, under the broad (gorgeous, Tobia added to themselves with a giggle) shoulders of their dearest Yngvarr, Tobia had the sparkling of hope that they hadn't felt for themselves in a long time. It was still new though, still the fragile budding start of what could be a forever love, but it was still something.
I wonder where Yngvarr is today, Tobia thought with a thoughtful and wistful hum, giving their wings a good flutter and enjoying the feeling of the fresh groomed feathers rubbing against their back. Their legs were bare today except for a single gold bangle that sat on their back ankle, small teardrop rubies dangling from the rim. Tobia's feathers have been painstakingly brushed out but had left fur on their tail long and artfully messy. His tail swept across the dirt and grass with every step, and Tobia didn't care to keep it up and clean today, but instead reveled at the feel of the dirt against his skin. It would be a good day.

Rooting about in the underbrush, Ixchel's eyes swept up to where a fat cicada sat, just out of reach. You meanie. I just wanna eat you, that's all... With a disgruntled sigh, she turned her gaze back down to the lovely rotting log before her. Here, her clawed feet came in handy. Tearing into the log like it was soft loam, she ripped chunks out and searched the newly disturbed pile for any grubs. Snapping these up with glee, she didn't notice the vibrantly colored Soquili in the vicinity. Secure in the belief that only those with similar stature as she could get into the dense clump of brush she was in, she had all but tuned out the outside world in her single-minded determination to get all the grubs she could find. Oh what a feast she was having!

Tobia's ears twitched as they heard a sound, the barest hint of rustles of leaves and branches followed by what sound like claws against wood. Their whistling stopped abruptly, and Tobia spread their wings out a bit, ready to depend themselves at a moment's notice if needed. It would not be the first or the last time they had been attacked for be too different, both too feminine and too masculine at the same time, and Tobia was not one to back down without a fight. Tobia stood still, listening closely as the sound of scratches on wood became louder and more frantic and clearly emanating from a dense bush only a few ahead. More curious than cautious now, Tobia stepped forward, noticing the shaking and rustling of one set of brush more than its surrounding neighbors.
The whistling didn't return, but Tobia folded their wings down before tucking them gently against their back and creeping closer. Perhaps just a rabbit? Tobia thought, concern running through them at the thought. It wouldn't do to leave some poor creature alone if it was in distress.
"Yoo-hoo~" Tobia called out, voice soft despite the deep timber of their voice. Their long tail, covered in bits of grass and stray bugs, crept forward and poked tentatively at the thick shaking underbrush. They thought they could see small hints of brightly colored fur or feathers between the abundance of leaves. "Are you alright in there, my dear?"

Crunching merrily at a rather prime specimen of the insect world, Chel almost didn't hear the melodious voice calling out. Almost. Startled at the sudden disturbance, she whirled around, a leg dangling from her mouth as she peered through the foliage. And up.... up... waaaaaaaaay up... to see a vibrant specimen before her. With a gulp that made the leg disappear, she tried her best to become one with the dirt beneath her. Too big too big too big WAY TOO BIG! She thought, panicking at the sight of the large Soquili before her. "Oh yes, just fine. Perfectly fine. Everything is juuuuuuuuuust fine..." She stammered out, resisting the urge to bolt in abject terror.

Tobia had to keep from cooing when the cutest little darling popped up through the underbrush. Her sweet little feathers were all puffed up and those little claws were just precious. Tobia had obviously interrupted the sweetheart mid-meal (the creepy crawler leg dangling from her fangs was a giveaway), and Tobia could spy the remnants of her scavenging taking this opportunity of her distraction to scurry off.
Tobia did feel bad though; the poor thing was obviously terrified. "Oh, I'm so sorry sweetie," they said, ears drooping, "I didn't meant to scare you." Tobia took a small step back to give the darling little thing some space, not wishing to crowd, before folding their legs down to lie on their belly in a vain attempt to make themselves appear less threatening. They knew first hand how scary strangers could be, and while Tobia did not find themselves particularly intimidating, they still didn't want to take the chance of causing harm to something else.
Tobia's tail still swayed to and fro, though, as evidence of their excitement of meeting something so darling and cute. "However, dearie, it does appear that your meal is getting away from you," Tobia said, gesturing vaguely over to the pile of retreating insects.

Staring at them, confusion slowly mingling with her fear, Ixchel's eyes drifted to the fluffy appendage that was betraying the giant's emotions. Unaccustomed to such treatment by other (much) larger Soquili, she remained motionless for a long moment puzzling this strange behavior over. It wasn't long, however, before something in the tail caught her eye. Several somethings.
Slowly rising to her feet, she kept her eyes on their tail and warily edged in a semi-circle towards it. "I think I'll manage. You, uh... got somethin' in your tail..." Chel's eyes were completely fixated on the possible feast currently exploring the new fuzzy terrain. "I could... you know... take care of that..."

Tobia didn't bother to suppress a giggle as she watched the little darling's eyes fixate on their fluffy tail. "Oh of course not, dearie," Tobia tittered, while slowly reaching out their tail to bring it closer to the little raptor. They made no move to stand, allowing the sweetheart to come closer in her own time and whenever she was comfortable. However, that time appeared to be coming quickly as her eyes fixated on the multitude of creepy crawlies that had made a small nest in Tobia's tail.
Tobia has a bad habit of collecting various insect on their tail in their travels, the long fuzzy appendage often dragging behind them as they walked. It was simply too long and heavy to carry up all the time, and Tobia wasn't fussy about it most days. The addition of the little dear's runaway meal added to what Tobia was sure was already a happy multitude of insects had created a veritable feast for some. "Help yourself, sweet-pea," Tobia offered, voice still coaxing. "I am sure you are quite hungry after all."
