His departure from Thorne's was not graceful and all he wanted to do right now was go home, was sit in the dark of his apartment and just... he didn't know. Sleep maybe. Regret his life choices. Regret his being.
But Jer still did not know and Chris knew that this was something to be told, was something that didn't stay a secret. Thorne and his choices be damned, Chris was going to do something about it.
He stumbled out of his car when he arrived, Bergamot scooped into his arms in case it turned into a longer visit. He felt wrecked, looked worse, but he still needed to tell Jer. He walked up to the porch, steps heavy, and banged on the door.
"Jer!" He yelled.

Jeremiah was in the process of starting dinner, Hellbine and Violetta already situated on their stools and waiting for their occasional treats. The stove was turned off almost immediately when he heard the bang and then Chris's voice. There was a note of panic it almost seemed like. He rolled his shoulders, head tilting backwards briefly before he flicked the stove off and disappeared from the kitchen doorway to reappear at the front door. In all honesty he did not understand how- No. Not the time. "Chris?" A note of concern was in his voice, blue-green eyes studying the blonde as he opened the door. "Is everything alright?"

His panic grows slightly when Jer doesn't answer the door, uselessly since it's barely been seconds. But he needs - he has to tell him, he absolutely needs him to know. He shifts his weight in place, unable to keep himself still.
He is all nerves and it shows.
"Jer!" He says when the door is opened, eyes wide in concern. "Is Alg there? Or are you alone? Please tell me you're alone."
He doesn't want the other to be there, when he says. He doesn't want to see it. He doesn't want it to know he knows. He's deeply afraid that if it knows he knows, it will do something.

"No, Alg isn't here. He's not gotten home for the evening ..." Jeremiah blinked again, a hand coming out to grab at Chris's shoulder. "Are you alright? Come inside." Then Chris is pulled in and the door closed, Jeremiah still keeping an arm on him because clearly something has gone wrong.

"I'm- Okay," He says, unable to resist Jer's draw in. Bergamot gives a meow from his perch in Chris' arms but otherwise doesn't move - he's unwilling to leave Chris.
Once the door is closed Chris looks up at Jer and there's fear in his eyes, worry. He doesn't know how to say this information and he worries for a moment but then figures it's best to rip it off like a bandage in one go.
"Thorne took Alg, there's currently a fetch in his place."
He pales as he says it, the truth coming back to him all over again. Chilling, unwelcome.

Jeremiah goes stock still, though it is not likely for the reason Chris thinks it is. Blue-green eyes, brighter than ever, turn and look at the younger man. The grip shifts and suddenly it's both hands on Chris's shoulders. "What," he said slowly, a note of disbelief there, "do you mean he took Alg?" A ragged breath escaped and Jeremiah's hands actually went cold. "Like what ... Melany did to him?"

If his reaction was bad, Jer's is so, so much worse. His own body stiffens in reply, dread turning his blood cold. He can't meet Jer's eyes, refuses to.
"Yeah," Chris whispers, "He took him. I think - I think Alg went with him on purpose. He wanted to. But there's a fetch in his place like there was with Thorne and Shiloh and-" He sucks in a breath. Tries to not let himself panic. "I don't think he'll be cruel, it's not Thorne's nature but. But you needed to know."

"Why would he-" Jeremiah starts and then stops. "I don't-" He turns then to run his hand across his face but it stops and he holds the hand away. The silver-haired man stares at the wedding ring there and twists it with his thumb. " Why," he says in a quiet voice, but he knows how Algie feels, has felt it before but that's no one's business but his. The reasons are clear and he can understand them but- "This isn't right. It's- Taking advantage of Algie and-"

The action of the wedding ring bothers Chris and he drops his gaze, pulling Bergamot a little closer. The cat rubs against Chris' chest, trying to be a comfort, reassurance. He'll shift soon so Chris can hold him in one arm, but for now he's content in his position.
"I don't know," Chris says back, equally a quiet. "All I know is Thorne thought about it for a long time before taking him, he wouldn't take advantage and- He didn't. He didn't think to tell us. To tell anyone."

"No, you don't understand ... Algie ... he has ..." Chris is given a pained look. "He's not- He doubts himself so much and I try to support him. I don't think that something like this would be good for him. What if it-" Jeremiah falls silent, thumb still turning the ring on his finger. This clearly pains him and the idea of Thorne having taken Algie, of Algie having been replaced- "We should have been told," he said softly. "Talked about. Before he-"

Chris understands what Jer means immediately and he presses his lips together in a thin line. There's another surge of anger at Thorne but he lets it go, lets it be. What was done was done.
"We should have," He agrees, quiet. "We should have but he did it and he lied to me about so much else too and we fought and I. I don't know what to do."

"It isn't-" Jeremiah lets out a shaky breath. "This isn't alright." He stops playing with the ring but the hurt is still clearly there and he turns to Chris finally. "Doing this-" He steps forward and then stops because for once he seems to not know what to do. To comfort. There's too much hurt. "After all that Melany did to him and he takes Alg. Thorne should have-" His voice breaks, cracks a moment before he can speak more. "He can't be trusted. If this was okay ... Then clearly he has been changed."

It's hard, watching Jer like this. It's hard, watching someone Chris knew as a pillar so affected. Something feels off, wrong, like he shouldn't be seeing this. A part of him wonders about that.
The other part of him, the one he's running off of, doesn't care.
He jerks his gaze up to Jer, eyes widening in surprise.
"What? No he's- he's still Thorne," He says, but it sounds weak to even his own ears. Because they had all changed but Thorne wasn't even in the cycle anymore. Was something of his own. Even Mare had tried to warn him.

"He's been twisted on the inside, even you have to see it ..." Jeremiah looks defeated at admitting this. As if they've lost something because of what Thorne has done. As if they have failed him as well as having failed Algie. "Thorne would not have done this before, he would have come to us. Instead he's-" Jeremiah sucks in a harsh breath, raggedly lets it back out. "He's turned into something Melany helped make." Fingers twitch. "... worse he's given in to it."

Chris shakes his head, like he can't believe it. Like he refuses to believe it. Bergamot, sensing Chris is distraught, changes his position. Crawls up to Chris' shoulder, gives him a gentle meow. Chris turns his head and buries his face in his fur.
"No, no he's not," He mumbles, but it's clear he doesn't believe it. Is grappling with it. "He never came to us for anything before, nothing important. He wouldn't."
