The night he'd met Nika had been the night he'd decided he wanted to stay with Nika. ...Or, er, not with Nika specifically, just his traveling band of weirdos that Akiyal still did not really know much about. In his defense, he'd only known of them for one night, so he still had plenty of time to learn. Provided they let him stay at all. Which they might not. Aki hadn't exactly gone through the process of making those intentions clear to anyone, yet.
Except for Kan. Moments ago. The poor lad seemed relatively disheartened. Probably because he expected they'd be off and on their way back home with the rising of the sun. But there it was, lingering in the sky, careless of the world's problems beneath it, and Aki and Kan were still in the camp of dancers.
Akiyal found it all very exciting and new and intriguing.
Kan seemed to think it was a waste of time and a deterrence from their ultimate goal.
Nevertheless, Aki'd managed to convince him to stay. 'For a bit,' so they could learn the land and have some sort of protection from wild animals and bandits and other such nonsense that Aki didn't actually believe. More importantly: adventure. And, since the troupe would likely be expecting them to depart, Akiyal had to find Nika and tell him his mission had been a success and he didn't plan on leaving anytime soon.
Because it was morning and seemed a little early to be venturing away from everyone else, Aki expected he'd find his new friend somewhere in camp. Alas, his expectations proved false, and after a solid several minutes of hunting, he resigned to ask around. As it turned out, there was a lake nearby, and Nika had taken himself there.
Akiyal set off in search of him.

Nikaio was prone to slipping off in the early morning, away from the troupe and those who woke early as well. He liked his alone time. And when you lived and traveled with a multitude of people, alone time was hard to come by. He took it when he could — even if that meant getting up at the a** crack of dawn and venturing off on his own. Yawning, Nika stretched his arms up over his head and grinned at the expanse of water laid out before him. Having already stripped naked, Nika was eager to get in an early morning swim before anyone else had a chance of joining him. If there was one thing Nika found calming in the world, it was being able to immerse himself into the water and let his thoughts wander. Dipping his bare toes into the water, Nika shivered. Not so much from the temperature of the water — though it was cool to the touch — but more from the sensation of just his toes touching the liquid. He loved the water. As much as he wanted to just dive in, though, Nika held himself back and slowly walked into the water. It wouldn’t be very good for him to take a chance at diving in and hitting his head because the water was shallow wherever he might land. He’d end up drowning his stupid a**. Nika was pleasantly pleased when the surface below the water began to decline, dipping deeper and deeper into the water. He took the opportunity to push off from the ground and dive, headfirst, into the cool water. Bubbles escaped from between his lips as his body glided through the water and he finally popped up to the surface a good way from the shore. He quickly took a deep breath and laid back into the water, letting his body float on the surface as he stared up at the early morning sky.

Akiyal wasn't generally an early riser, since there was seldom reason to wake before the rest of the world. But current circumstances, coupled with the unusual newness of the situation and the curiosity he had for it, spurred him to greet this particular day with the sun. And what a treat he would have missed out on if he hadn't. Thanks to the help of a few of Nika's troupe mates, Aki was able to locate the Water boy just as he slipped into the crystal-clear surface of the water. Completely nude and totally shameless.
For several minutes, he didn't really think it was necessary for him to do anything more than watch. It wasn't like this was a private place, and Nikaio was a performer, anyway. He had to enjoy people watching him, unannounced or otherwise. Besides, he looked... Well, he looked happy, and Aki wasn't of a mind to disrupt that.
Initially.
After watching his new friend do a few twists, a few dives, and then finally emerge to float atop the surface of the water, Akiyal decided he might as well join him. He wasn't adverse to swimming, since there'd been a lake quite close to his own home, though it wasn't a practice he took to do by himself, since it was rather boring to do alone. Nika obviously didn't agree, but maybe he wouldn't mind the company, anyway.
Akiyal dropped his pants, top, and boots on the shore and waded out toward the other boy. He wasn't an especially stealthy man in or out of the water, but Nika was far enough out that he'd have ample opportunity to hear Aki splashing about in his direction. "Hey," he called out when he was submerged up to his waist. "Gods, it's cold," he griped as he dipped down and swam out toward the other boy. "I wouldn't think to go for a swim til the sun had a chance to warm the water a bit more, but you don't look too bothered, huh?"

His eyes closed and his thoughts wandering, Nikaio didn’t hear the approach of Akial at first. It wasn’t until a few small ripples lapped up against his side and the muffled voice, from water around his ears, made its way to him that he blinked his eyes open. He chuckled at the complaint about the cold water as he finally recognized the voice and he moved so that he was no longer floating and was treading water instead. “It doesn’t bother me too much. It’s refreshing. And it usually means most people won’t venture out here to swim just yet. Gives me some alone time.” He raised an eyebrow as he expertly moved forward, closing some of the distance between Akiyal and himself. “What are you doing out here so early?”

At the word 'usually,' Akiyal's face broke into a wide grin. He dipped, cast off with his arms, and glided through the water until he was close at Nika's side. "I'm not the 'usual' type of guy, am I," he retorted cheekily, though he wouldn't admit that he was far from pleased about being awake at this hour and up and about in a lake too chilly to be comfortable.Normally, he wasn't such a morning person.
But he'd awoken with purpose and had reason to be here, specifically.
Aki scratched at the back of his head, wetting his dirty blond strands in the process, and grinned almost sheepishly back at the other man. "It happens I was looking for you, huh?" He replied with a not-entirely-gently jab to Nika's bare chest. "Thought you'd want to know I wasn't planning on setting out, and I'd do whatever needed doing for you people to let me'n Kan come along with you."
"But, ah..." His gaze hovered near the lip of the water, where Nika's pale blue skin disappeared beneath the surface and out of view. "Maybe there's not much need to be worrying about that just now..."
