The last time Chris had seen Alg, it had been when he was checking up on him at Coalsmoke. Some time had passed and Chris had decided that this time, he was going to be the one to visit Alg.
His bag was packed quickly and ever since he had moved into Coalsmoke, Bergie had been more relaxed about not following Chris around. If it was because he picked up on Chris' fear, enjoyed Millie, or just enjoyed Coalsmoke Chris didn't know but he appreciated it all the same. He gave him a little pat as he left out the apartment, giving Thorne a heads up before he went to Alg and Jer's.
It was quick work the drive and even quicker he bounded up the porch, knocking on the door before waiting.

There was a peek at the window, a green through the blinds, before a moment later when Alg opened the door. It was Alg and Violetta, the large white cat stretched lazily in his arms as he ran his hands over her body. "Chris," He smiled, "A surprise- come in.." The professor motioned to the entry room, comfortable as always. The home was as lived in and comfortable looking as always, the sweater chair looked a bit straightened up (it was summer) but the ambience of the house was ever welcoming. "How're you doing?" Violetta seemed to slide from his arms, a slow slinky thing, until she was hitting the floor with a heavy sound and winding her way around Chris's legs.

Chris smiled at the arrival of Alg, pleased to see him as well as Violetta. He gave an appreciative coo at Violetta, watching her stretched out in Alg's arms.
"I just figured I'd visit since you dropped by last time," Chris said, stepping into the house and toeing his shoes off. It was comfortable, familiar, everything looking the same except for the chair but well. That was expected.
"I'm doing- better," He said, honest. "Not quite good yet, but better. How are you?" He crouched down to give affection and attention to Violetta.

"I'm alright," His slight smile said he meant it, as did he lack of pause for thought on the matter. "Getting back into the swing of things. School puts a bit of a-" His hand waved, "Regimented schedule onto things. It helps." Alg's hands went to his pockets, rocking in his stocking feet a moment before he tilted his head towards the kitchen, "Tea?" Always tea.

"Good to hear," Chris said from where he was petting Violetta, pleased. "Are the naps in your office any good? I like to image the students leave you alone enough."
He looked up from Violetta, finally stretching up. "Sounds good," He said, smiling. The tea was always good, normal. Regular.

Alg scratched the back of his head sheepishly, "Can you believe I haven't had a chance yet?" He shrugged, "Too busy." Perhaps keeping himself on the move, to move himself forcefully past everything that was happening. His brow furrowed a moment in thought and he passed through the door into the kitchen. The older man must have been thinking too much as he clipped the counter lightly with the side of his stomach and hissed, " Bollocks.." The professor lifted a hand easily, "I'm alright-" Violetta made sure to not let Chris move until he'd picked her up, which meant near crawling up his leg begging. "Are you sleeping?" It was always the go to question. Green eyes cutting over the tops of his glasses with a bit of a dad-stare as he moved to fill the kettle.

"Actually, I can," Chris admitted with a smile, knowing that he taught big classes (or at least, as far as he remembered). Just because he wanted to believe the students left Alg alone didn't mean it actually happened. Freshman in particular could be especially bad.
Chris gave Alg a concerned look, but was waved off easily. It was strange to hear him curse though and he frowned a little, but let it go. Everyone had days like that. Violette was granted a picking up, her size being managed better by his practice with carrying Heddy, Millie, and Bergamot. Mostly the cats at the same time, which was obnoxious.
"Mostly," He admitted as he moved into the kitchen, finding a stool to sit himself on. "Thorne helps, which is the most that can be said. Sometimes it doesn't happen but it's been better. A lot better. What about you?"

"Sleeping is never much of a problem for me.." Alg smiled over his shoulder as he moved to the stove to put on the water, "Old." As if that was self explanatory. "Something to munch on?" Alg was going into the cabinets, pulling out crisps and biscuits, and then looking to the fridge to see if Jeremiah had made up anything he'd want to share. "Thorne is alright?" Alg's brow furrowed. The other young man had a dark edge to him since they'd all returned from the ball. It wasn't necessarily bad but he wondered how it came across to Chris.

"I wish I could say that for myself," Chris said, laughing. "Maybe not with the age part, but you do look good for you age."
"Oh, yes, thank you," Chris said idly, taking a biscuit. Cookie. Whatever they were, he had never really gotten the difference between the terms. Growing up in Korea had made him indifferent to the debate, since he had no real attachment to either term. Instead he formed his weird attachments to other things - like nuts in banana bread.
"Yes," Chris said, tapping his nails against the counter. "At least, I think he is. I help him as much as I can but sometimes I can't. Not because I don't want to but just because I'm... unable."
He dropped his head in his hand, sighing. "He actually lied to me awhile ago, about some Lord stuff. He was afraid to tell me and while we made up and I'm not anymore I still feel bad. Like he felt like he couldn't tell me at all so he had to hide it. I hate it."

"Flatter," Alg chuckled, green eyes flashing a wink over his glasses, "Don't let Jeremiah hear you complimenting me. You see how he is about baked goods." Mugs were brought around, Chris getting the 'ITS IN THE SYLLABUS' mug, before a couple lemon squares were produced as well. Alg seemed to be heavy on the 'feed your troubles' today. He poured them each tea, sugar and a small thing of cream also produced, and Alg didn't sit but continued to move around the kitchen. There seemed to be something acutely more energetic with the older man today. He checked the cat bowls and moved to refill their water. "Lied?" His frown set in, "About what exactly?"

"He'll have to deal," Chris says idly, a smile on his own face, "I'm free to compliment whoever I want. It's not like I'm trying to steal you away anyways."
Chris took his mug gratefully, smiling at the saying on it before taking a long sip and resting his fingers on the warmth. He watched Alg in his movement, slightly perplexed but not too alarmed.
"About everything that came with being a Lord," Chris said, "He has Mare, this fetch of his own apparently, and can take tithes like Melany did. Make them a Lord or Lady, I guess, like she did to him. It's why he has his new powers too, these wings. They're beautiful, like a self contained galaxy to him. He's beautiful."
He might have gotten a little sappy at the end there, but well. What Chris didn't know didn't hurt him.

"No of course not," He chuckled, "You have Thorne." There was a small amusement in how he said it, not mocking in the least, more like acknowledgement. Yeah you guys are super gay. With the cats watered, Alg actually peeked out the back window also before everything was deemed settled and he was able to sit down across from Chris at the table. He took a sip of his tea and made a small satisfied sound. The news of what it meant to be a Lord made Alg start mid-sip, appearance changes aside, "You mean he's taking people? And-" Was he duplicating his own treatment by Melany?

"That I do," Chris said easily, "He's a good roommate, for the most part. Doesn't make too much mess." He missed the acknowledgement entirely - Chris was pretty oblivious.
He hummed, took another sip of his tea. Relished the peace that was being with Alg, being in the comfort of this house.
"No, he's not taking anyone," Chris was quick to say, seeing the alarm. "At least, I don't think he will. Not without telling me. I don't think he'd want to anyways, he doesn't want to become like Melany. He doesn't want to have anyone suffer like he did."

Roommate? Really?"You're sure though?" Alg still frowned with concern. A hand ran along his jaw, making an audible noise against his barely there stubble. "You said he lied-" The older man then seemed to backtrack only slightly, lifting a hand innocently, "I'm not accusing him of anything but I think we've both seen him... he's a bit different."

"Yes," Chris said with confidence, wondering why Alg was asking so much. It did make some sense, after the ball though, but it did leave him with some slight unease.
"He is but.. he's still Thorne. He's going to make some mistakes but I don't think he'd break this, not this time. I mean, I live with him, I'd probably notice anything up too. It's fine, really."
