This enemy can be fought solo!

You're attacked by a group of three small animals -- your choice what sort, but they should be native to the Louisiana area. Their eyes are crazed, and their action are erratic, implying that there's no sense behind their actions. These are wild beasts, and they attack together.

Hit Points: 10 each, for a total of 30, but one dies for each 10 HP damage you do to them.
Damage: Each does 2 each time you attack, for a total of 6 to start. This number goes down as you kill them.

If you successfully kill all three animals and reach 500 words, each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.
41-90: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.
91-100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Rabid Blood: these creatures have been infected with something that makes their blood potent. It can be vialed and used once to deal an extra 3 damage [after modifiers] on your next successful attack, after which it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever.

Shrikes. If there was any bird that was absolutely, honestly, one hundred percent ridiculous, it was shrikes. Bloody, scavenger little birds-- any animal that stuck their pray up on thorns or barbed wire? Evil little creatures. And there were three of them -- and they were big. It was entirely possible that they were big enough to stick him on some barbed wire and come back later to rip flesh off of his bones.

"Ick." And then, for good measure, swatting at the birds with his sword. "Ick ick, oh my god, ick. Little murder birds, why are there little murder birds. nothing is adorable in Louisiana, it's like the Australia of the United States, oh my damn god."

He managed to knock one of the birds into something, hard enough to kill it, and caught another one a glancing blow. Birds, minks, turtles, nature was clearly rebelling. Maybe someone needed to talk to Gaia? Was that a thing?

Maybe it needed to be a thing. He swung at the shrikes again; they were fast and he wasn't as fast as he wanted to be with the sword. He promised himself, again, that when he got out of this mess he was going to train harder. Maybe he'd flirt with a great sword instead of the shorter version-- or was it a lighter version? It didn't much matter, except that he'd barely glanced the damn bird, the one he'd already caught before. And the two of them caught him, pecking; he should be grateful there wasn't any barbed wire, and he was.

Shrikes were evil, awful damn little things. Things that should not have been, if he wanted to be honest.

"I don't know if you can hear me, but I know you're there. A little help would be really-- just awesome about now, honest to god. Gods? To gods, fine, honest to gods."

He didn't know if it was the prayer or what, if that could be even called a prayer, but he managed to hit the two shrikes hard enough to slam both tiny murderous bodies into a thick tree trunk. He was much happier with both of the little dead bodies on the grass, if it was even grass. If it was grass. If it wasn't going to come to life and try to kill him, which he suspected was something that was going to happen sometime soon.

He let his breath out through his teeth, slowly. "Thank you." It might not have been the (air quotes) prayer. But it might have, and it would have been rude not to acknowledge it. So. He examined his sleeve cuff. Not bad. Maybe salvageable. He needed to ask the Hephs to make him an indestructible suit.

He checked the little bodies-- one of the birds had a flower in it. He was beginning to feel less surprised by this, each time he found one of them. They were small and didn't look like any flower he knew. White flower, dark roots, and it was strange. He tipped it one way, and the other, and then gave up. He still had a spare handkerchief; he wrapped the three flowers in the kerchief, and tucked the whole thing back into his pocket.
