The air felt cooler than it had in days. A good sign, as far as Aki was concerned. Of course, the days prior to this one had mostly been spent walking. And walking and walking and walking forever, it seemed like. Not for the first time, Akiyal wished his raptrix would return. Naeght would've put a stop to this walking real quick. At least, he would've stopped Aki from walking, and that was really all the blond boy cared about.

This dance troupe sure did spend a great amount of time on the move. And despite thinking travel and adventure were things he wanted- No, not just thinking it. He did want it, just... wanted a little less of a workout as well. Seeing all of Tale and Sauti and now Zena was an experience and a needed one, at that.

Though convincing Kan that they'd needed to stay with the troupe while in Sauti was clearly a pointless waste of effort. His friend had promptly abandoned him, and it put quite the sour dampener on Aki's mood.

And he missed a real bed. No real beds on the open plains.

So yeah, he had his complaints. But surely now, coming into the mountains, fast encroaching on real snow, they couldn't afford to sleep outside in the elements. Not with old people and children and the sick. And he had new friends in Nika and his troupe mates. Things were looking up.

Presumably. As they entered the small Zenan village, Aki couldn't help but think it loked even sleepier than his home in Sauti. Quiet. Few people. And those who were around shuffled like they were carrying the great weight of all their boredom and sadness and strife. This hardly seemed the appropriate place for a dance troupe and surely, surely wasn't their destination...?

Sol was ready for the cooler weather. As of late he had spent most of his time in Sauti with his father, and while it wasn't exactly 'warm' there, it was still a far cry from the bitter cold of the north. He was still able to wear looser clothing, even exposing a bit of skin without fear of losing it to frost bite.

Not that he kept much visible. As a rule Sol kept himself covered head to foot by a dark cloak, making sure that the hood was pulled tight over his head. If this trip had taught him anything it was that not everyone was as welcoming to hybrids as those in this little village, and that hiding was the safest thing he could do.

They were close to home, but too far out for Sol to relax. At the very least they were back in Zena, which afforded him some small measure of comfort. He walked in the open now, instead of keeping his excursions to the night time hours, even if he was still covered. Most gave him an odd look, only seeing the tall, suspicious stranger and not the boy underneath.

His papa had mentioned something about a dance troupe, and Sol was eager to see them, even if they were passing through. Of course, it might have worked out better if he wasn't moving quite so fast, hadn't bumped into a tradesman and wasn't currently being publicly harassed for attempted theft.

That was definitely a downside.

"Why else would you be wearing all of that-" The chuffy man gestured to his outfit, "- if ye weren't trying to steal from me?!"

"I was only-"

When he wouldn't turn his face up to look at the man, the older man grew infuriated. "Then why won't you look me in the eye, huh?! Let's just see what the guard has to say about this."

It was perhaps the sole point of interest happening in the entirety of the little village, and it wasn't even all that interesting, as far as Akiyal was concerned. But it was certainly the loudest, and it felt like his civic duty to partake in whatever excitement these mountainous lands tried to offer him. His gaze followed the sounds of disagreement, and came to a halt on a cloaked boy, and the vendor he'd apparently agitated.

Aki's first thought came less as a coherent string of words, and more as an impression. Dislike. Distrust. He hated thieves and bandits. Not for the stealing (though that would've been displeasing to be on the receiving end of, sure), but for the deception. Akiyal would never admit it out loud and probably didn't fully grasp the reality of it, himself, but he just wasn't smart enough to see through that type of thing. And it left him in a constant state of wariness around people who looked like they were trying to get away with something.

This boy definitely fit that bill.

And though it wasn't his business and certainly didn't have a single thing to do with him, Aki found himself striding up quite boldly toward the boy's back. He probably should've done nothing. It would've made more sense to allow these two to sort it out themselves or to let the merchant bring the guard into it, as he apparently intended to do.

But Akiyal had never been the 'sit back and watch' type. He reached as soon as he was within arm's length, fingers tangling in the thick fabric of the boy's dark hood and (he realized belatedly) probably also a fistful of hair. "Wouldn't waste my time dragging him around, when all you gotta do is pull this crap off," he grunted to the merchant, and proceeded to yank the boy's hood down.
