So basically...

If you were to have children, what do you think you'd name them?

What are your favorite male/female names?

What do names mean to you? Can they affect the way a person lives?

What is your name? Do you like it?

And so on...

Never really thought about what I'd name my kids... stare Depends on a lot of factors, I suppose, plus the other parent's input... Still... I suppose "Stillborn" and "Miscarriage" would always be contenders... stare

Hm... I'm not too sure. My opinion on names tends to depend on who it belongs to. it's more of a personality association thing for me. For example, I think Jack Bauer is a kickass name! m/ Yeah... >.> Maybe I'd name my kids Jack Bauer...

"Hi. What's your first name?"
"Jack Bauer!"

Heh heh...

To me? They're a means of identification and, as I said above, I tend to associate them with personalities. Although I try not to be too prejudiced, so they're unstable associations. I suppose I only really develop an unbiased opinion if I hear a name but don't know anyone by that particular name... I'm just rambling a load of crap, now.

As for affecting the way they live... Not quite sure what you mean. I suppose it depends on the name and the culture the person is in. I mean... Being named Jesus in the west would definitely get you a few odd looks.

Rob xp I suppose I like it. Never really thought about it. Although I know about six or seven other people with the same name that I tend to hang around with pretty regularly, so it all gets confusing at times.

Names don't mean much to me: After all, unless you change your name, you don't decide it by yourself, and therefore, it is no more than an identification. If you change it, it might have some kind of a meaning, but...

A name can't really affect a person's way to live, that is, unless it's a foreign name or something ridiculous. A foreign name could bring you prejudice from certain people, but that's pretty obvious.

My name's Jonne, that's a somewhat rare Finnish variation of John. It's okay, at least I don't meet people named this every day. There is one celebrity(Or is he anymore? I dunno) in Finland by this name, and I hate him. Yay.

My mother had a miscarriage a few years ago, but considering he died only two days before his expected birth, we still refer to him with a name, Nicholas. But maybe we're all overly sensitive.

As for a name changing the course of someone's life, I agree with Serial. Names don't seem to make a person, since it's not like it's really their desicion. And people can change their names fairly easy, especially famous people, like for example Elton John. And of course there's that famous Shakespeare quote, "Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet?" So I suppose that's a difficult question for anyone to answer.

My name is Emily, it's simple and common, but I don't mind. I think it suites me... Not that I'm simple or common, or at least I hope I'm not, but I'm content with it.

Nyeh... Didn't mean to sound insensitive or anything... <.<;

I was hired as a PI to get some information on some guy by some other guy when given only his AIM (long story). I didn't have AIM and I was too lazy to download it, so I got another guy to do all the questioning for me. I gave him the pseudonym "Emily Dawkins" and made up a really articulate background for him to work with.

My friend added the guy and introduced himself as Emily Dickinson... stare

... Strange. That was actually one of my sense-making things. Most of my stuff tends to be crap-talking... stare I suppose it was one of those really obscure things... I was doing some detective stuff to try and obtain honouary membership into a secret society...
