Standing outside the police station was familiar in a way that made Jamie relive the foolishness of his previous trip here. The fake story about a lost fifty, the knowledge that Detective Mercer had seen through his plan despite being too kind to call him out directly, and the fear of looking like an idiot all over again were enough to keep him rooted in place just a few paces from the door. He probably looked suspicious as he stood there stiff and sweating with anxiety, but at least all the hare features were gone.
Where speaking with Jeremiah had become considerably easier to manage—thank their weird group text chat for that—Detective Kuroda was still undeniably intimidating. Jamie wasn't sure why he'd hopped on the impulsive idea to come here and talk to him about what had happened in the Otherworld, but the longer he loitered, the more he began to question his life choices. What if Shun didn't have time to talk to him? What if he didn't want to talk to him? What if he considered the apology Jamie was spinning on his tongue too unimportant or too insincere to accept?
There was a lump in his throat and he couldn't swallow it down. He took a step away from the building, then stopped, lingered, took a step back. Right now he should've been with Shiloh, a thought he berated himself with, and his heart twisted with worry as time ticked by in countless wasted seconds. Make a ******** move, Delacroix, he mentally cursed.
And he did make a move. Unfortunately, it was only one step closer to the door.

Just as Jaime took a step closer to the door, it opened. Shun was apparently on his way out of the building, deciding to go out for lunch today rather than bringing something in. As soon as he had stepped out, he took note of the boy that was loitering outside of the police department. It was one he had recognized as well. "...Have something to report, Jaime?" he asked, raising his brow at the moonwalker who almost seemed frozen in place. Then again, he wasn't sure he had ever seen the kid not look incredibly nervous or anxious. Regardless, he couldn't think of too many other reasons why a citizen would drop by the building otherwise. "Speak with Preacher at the front desk. She can help direct you to wherever," he advised, then started to walk past him.

It probably would've been easier in the long run to let him walk past. As much as Jamie wanted to, as much as he told himself over and over he was just wasting Shun's time, he also knew deep down if he didn't at least try that nothing would ever change.
How long would he hold onto all of this anxiety?
"Um, D-Detective...?" he bid for his attention, turning to follow. "I-I, um, was hoping to speak with you."

Shun paused as he heard Jaime call out to him from behind. He glanced over his shoulder and raised his brow. "What for?" he asked. The detective couldn't really think of why Jaime woudl have wanted to speak with him. Perhaps it had something to do with the Other side, rather than anything that happened over here, "Did something happen?"

Step one, complete. Step two... Jamie smiled and it was notably strained. The feeling was genuine, but pulling it off was another story entirely. Suffice to say, the expression didn't last long.
"It's, um... it's about the masquerade. About what happened." He hesitated, then continued, "I'm not... interrupting anything, am I? Um, i-if you're busy-" Jamie trailed off, but the implication was obvious. He could come back another time. Assuming he worked up the nerve to, of course.

The ball. Shun closed his eyes for a few moments, then turned, motioning for Jamie to follow along. "I am just going to get lunch. We can walk and talk," he replied, "So, what is this about the masquerade, now?"He wondered if this had to do with Melany or the fetches at all. If she had any followers left, it made sense that they may be searching for her. Perhaps the boy encountered one?

Relief was palpable as Jamie ran to catch up. Unfortunately for Shun, he hadn't come here for any reason important to the bigger picture. He had a little information and insight from Shiloh, but sharing hadn't been his original goal. All he really wanted to do was apologize. What happened might not have been his fault, but he carried guilt for it.
"It's just..." As he walked, he played with his hands. "I wanted to, um, apologize. I couldn't stop Beel from attacking you. And I... I-I'm sorry I got in the way."

It wasn't exactly what he expected to hear coming out of the moonwalker. His head tilted to the side curiously. Of the people that were at the masquerade, Jamie was one of the ones he felt didn't really need to apologize. At least not for anything he saw him do or not do. "I doubt anyone could have stopped that fetch, let alone piling on top of him," he huffed, "You were not hindering my attempts to take him down. Not really."

He never stopped playing with his hands, even when he replied with a small, "I-I'm glad, thank you..." It's not as if he expected to be berated, but the revelation eased some of his anxiety.
"We tried to stop him again, but..." he hesitated, chewing his lip for a moment before continuing. "We had to run, t-they were after us, and we-" he shook his head, "I don't know what happened to him. To Beel."

Shun's gaze darkened a bit as he walked along, heading towards a nearby cafeteria. "So Beel may still live," he said, sounding a bit hollow. He didn't particularly like how weak he felt going up against that fetch. It was still a source of bitterness, "I take it Shiloh managed to escape safely, however?"

"He..." Jamie recalled how it felt, how it sounded, how it sickened him to tackle Beel and break his ribs. He felt no pity for the fetch, but hurting anyone was something he hadn't completely gotten used to yet. It wasn't necessarily a life threatening injury, though, so all he could do was answer honestly. "He may, yes."
If revealing the truth about Beel made him droop, the chance to say that Shiloh was safe—despite what he was going through right now—did perk Jamie back up a touch. "Yeah, Shiloh and I got out together. Things haven't really, um, settled down yet, but... he's safe."

That was both good and bad news to be hearing. He didn't know the full extent of the nature of fetches, but he supposed it would be possible that they'd try to steal the lives once more. "Hm... well it is good to hear that Shiloh is safe for the time being. I am certain he and the others who were taken could use some time after what they had been through. I will keep an eye out for Beel, in case he shows back up."

"It doesn't, um, sound like things will be very easy for them from now on..." he admitted, picking at his palm. "They're nobles now, too, or something." He understood, at least somewhat. After all, his entire idea of reality had been turned upside down the night he became a hare. Though he supposed even if he hadn't awakened to his moonwalker roots, the Otherworld would've made life topsy turvy enough on its own.
The more he learned about the role he and the other moonwalkers might have to play, though, the more confusing things became.
"If... If I hear anything about the fetches o-or see anything... I'll let you know. I-Is that okay?" After looking straight ahead nearly the entire walk, Jamie finally looked up at Shun. He was far too awkward to ask the detective for his number, but he supposed if anything happened, he could always run down to the police station.

"Yes... I learned that much from Thorne. I cannot say I like that development, but it is what it is."Shun paused next to the door of the cafe, turning towards Jamie as he continued to speak. This kid was somehow supposed to be one of the enforcers of the other world. There was something a little messed up about that idea. "Yes, of course. I can give you my number, if you would like. There may be some odd questions if you were to contact the police department over things in magical nature."

If it were possible to share thoughts, Jamie would've told Shun not to worry, that he'd do his best. In a lot of ways, it still felt like he was drifting, unsure what to do with himself and his abilities, but here and there he learned new things and despite all odds he kept going. Truth be told, the knowledge that he may, in some way, be able to shield Shiloh was the best motivation he'd gotten so far.
Scuffing his foot against the sidewalk, he repeated, "It is what it is, yeah..." and sounded pretty down about it. "They didn't ask for it. I know how that feels. But I... wanna learn to work with them. I wanna help, so-" he sighed.
At least Shun was sharp enough to hand out his number without Jamie having to ask. He supposed going to the police station to report a body snatch wouldn't go over well.
"That... would be nice. T-Thank you." He pulled out his phone, quickly making a new contact, then tentatively held it out to the detective.
