I'oa is a Kaha'iko that always has her eyes elsewhere. While she knows and appreciates the beauty of her homelands, she has always yearned and is eager to explore what else is out there in Kahakina. Her dream is to see as much of the world as she can, and as a result, she never really stays still for long (as much as her family would like her to). She is always on the move and even if she visits home, she is never there for very long (maybe a few days to a week at the most, at a time).
Due to her wayward nature, I'oa can be prone to flights of fancy and is a bit of a day-dreamer. While her family around her tries to keep the girl on the ground, it isn't unheard of for I'oa to get lost in her own imagination. She often fantasizes about what sort of other individuals or things are out there for her to see and experience. Her daydreams can often get her in trouble from time to time, as she doesn't always pay attention to where she is going or what she is doing. I'oa is accident prone, to put it simply, and her luck has never really been the best. She tries her hardest not to let this get to her, however, and often just brushes off her misfortune as simple mistakes or foolish blunders. She doesn't look for trouble, but it just sort of happens to find her.
I'oa is an explorer at heart, and this is what she feels her true calling is. She is the most happy out of doors, on her own out in the wilderness and away from civilizations. Her family and peers view her as an eccentric, and in some respects she is. She isn't very good at keeping up conversations with folks, and she always seems a bit awkward in more civilized company. It's not that the young woman is uncultured; people just have to go a little out of their way to see her in her true element.
●●●Likes______ Being outside, survival skills, practical knowledge, being left to her own devices, her uncle, exploring, learning or finding new things, nature.

I'oa was born into a middle-class family in Waipuka, to a merchant father, Pakole, and a daycare owning mother, Ki'kina. She was the first of the nine children that her mother and father would come to have. As a result, a lot was expected of young I'oa, and she was figured to go very far in life. Her parents had big aspirations for her.
Much to her mother's chagrin, I'oa was not an easy child to raise. The little girl was always on the go, running this way and that, and making life difficult for her poor mother and father. One minute, she would be by her mother's side, and the next she would be gone. As caring and loving as her parents were, they could never seem to get a tight enough grip on their eldest child, and this put stress on the relationship with her parents. Eventually, Ki'kina had more children, and then turned her focus elsewhere, away from her eldest girl.
Pakole, not wanting his wife to get worn out by raising all the children, and not wanting his eldest to run totally wild, then came up with an idea. He sent I'oa to live with brother, Hapeka, in the tiny settlement of Pu'honu. It was there that her uncle would not only keep an eye on her, but teach her how to live off the land. It was Hapeka that gave I'oa her thirst for adventure and her love of the outdoors. Instead of being frazzled by the young girl, he took her in and nurtured her. I'oa is, as a result, very close to her uncle.
Now that she is older, I'oa frequently goes back to visit her parents to check in on them and her younger siblings. On a recent trip to Waipuka, she has also decided to venture north, up in to Noelani, in order to see what she experiences in the beautiful spring that gives them all life.
