This enemy can be fought solo!

You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a medium-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.

At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.

Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.

Hit Points: 30 HP
Damage: 4 HP each time you attack

If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.

Either outcome, once finished witth at least 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.
41-99: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.
100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

"Huh." Mal stood still, watching the snapping turtle come toward him. It wasn't moving fast yet, but it was starting to pick up speed. It was also -- well, big. He hadn't known turtles came in that size. It was kind of intimidating looking, and Mal took a hurried step backward and only then remembered his sword. He stabbed downward at an angle, and made a little yip of surprise at the impact. That thing had some serious armor.

He still didn't quite manage to avoid getting caught by the beak of the thing; there was a nasty look in it's eyes, and he wondered if it had anything to do with the bra still tangled on the thing's spikes. It was a pretty bra, too; black satin with midnight blue embroidered detailing, and it looked a bit like a push up, with convertible straps. It looked like the straps were why it was stuck on the turtle, too.

No wonder it was so angry. Mal took another fast step backward as the head lunged. The beak clicked together with a sound a lot like two big blocks of wood being slammed together, and he took another couple of steps backward, glancing over his shoulder. "Look, li'l --miss." Miss. Maybe? Probably, if it had been wearing a bra before it had gotten changed into a turtle. He'd stick with miss.

"I don't want to hurt you, I promise. I don't even want to try to pick you up, the idea is sort of terrifying, especially with that--" he caught the turtle across the nose with a blow and lost a bit of his pants to the snap of beak at the same time.

"Christ. You kiss your mother with that mouth?"

"Well, probably you don't. At least not right now, anyway." He skipped sideways, avoiding a bit of root that he caught out of the edge of his vision and making another stab downward at the turtle. He whacked it again and some of the crazy panic was going out of it's eyes, thankfully.

"Your mother is probably glad you don't, too." He whisked his leg away from the turtle only to see it catch a bit of his jacket.

"Gorram it." He let his breath out, and avoided another root. Cypress trees. It had to be cypress trees, with the creepy lifted roots out of the ground that he could trip on. It'd be just his luck to trip over a root and end up needing to call for help because he'd gotten treed by a sixty pound turtle.

Of all things.

Well, at least it wasn't the minks.

He took another step back -- and his heel hit a root, and he windmilled his arms, trying desperately not to fall. Mal had seen that video of the snapping turtle biting into a watermelon. He had a vivid image of, not a watermelon, but this turtle biting into his head. Probably the Chosen badge would shrug off even that damage, but --

And then it didn't matter, because windmilling both arms when one had a sword was a bad idea, and he'd managed to stave the turtle's head in. He stopped, and fell onto his butt in the dirt and tree roots.

"Well, crap."

He sat for a minute, staring at the turtle as it twitched and died, before he levered himself up to his feet. He peeled the bra away from the spikes; not fair to it or her or whatever for her to be found tangled in a bra. He didn't even know if the dead would turn back into humans after they defeated Circe. But it still wasn't dignified for her to be found like that. Naked would probably be worse, but ... still.
