1.

Follow Gaia ToS:

This is something that may get us in hot water, so please respect the site rules. If it comes down to either us or you, we apologise--but it's going to be you. Immediate ban on first offence for one week. After this time you may contact crew asking to be re-instated. Crew reserves the right to deny re-entry on grounds of suspicion; we will not jeopardise the guild for your feelings.

2.

No Autos/Mary Sues/God-Moding:

Autos:

No matter what, it is paramount to word your posts so that the other player has an opportunity to avoid an unwanted action when interacting with other RPCs (as well as most NPCs). Please understand: it is common courtesy. If you are unsatisfied with your character's performance (e.i.: isn't landing enough hits, plots are falling through, etc.), it is crucial to communicate with the player behind the character with whom you are interacting. Note: includes hits, romantic activity, acquisition of knowledge, etc. Please ask if unsure about an auto.

      Wrong:
Jake:Having been royally ticked off, Jake decided it was time to knock this chump out. So he walked right up and punched the guy with the stupid hair right in the face, bruising him pretty badly.

(Breakdown: The player didn't let the other player respond to the attack, but rather dictated that the attack would land and even went to far as to specify the effect of said action. This is very unfair to the other player and it will not be tolerated here. Note: If a previous agreement for autos exists between players, it should be made known to crew at some point (even putting it at the beginning of a post so that we do not misjudge.))

      Right:

Jake: Having had quite enough of this, Jake decided it was time to shut this fool up pronto. With a swift step he attempted to close the distance between himself and the loud-mouthed offender and aimed a powerful left hook at his jaw. If it connected, the man would likely be rocked.
(Breakdown: The player gave the opponent plenty of opportunities to digest what was happening and make a decision on whether or not they would allow their character to be damaged. Phrases like attempted, aimed, if it connected all signify a kind of asking permission without conversing in PM.)

Mary Sues:

Very much a universal rule of courtesy in role-playing. Please take steps to avoid Mary Sue activity: do not let your character become too overpowered, to not name a character after your Gaia username, do not create a character who is more than two races (should really only stick to one; hybrids are inherently a least a little bit Mary Sue), write a backstory that doesn't sound as though you are injecting yourself into the RP (everyone cal tell). Being a Mary Sue very much means stealing the show and hogging all the attention for oneself. This cannot be tolerated as it takes attention away from others who have been playing with patience in knowing they will get their fifteen minutes.

God-moding: (God-modding)

is simply breaking the boundaries of the universe (e.i.: having a character who is simply too strong, using abilities not listed in profile, refusing to be hit or take damage, using autos, OHKO abilities, and so on).

We will not tolerate any of this here. If you have questions about ruling you may appeal, but know that depending on the severity of the offense this crew reserves the right to outright ban you with no warning (may appeal to be re-instated).

It is key to make the other player feel more respected, and I think you'll find people are more likely to give damage when they have been shown proper respect in situations like this; keeping in mind they do not wish to be seen as Mary Sues, it is likely that, seeing a lack of such activity in their opponent, they will give face. However, if a player simply will not allow him/her/themselves to be hit, and if your characters are reasonably close on the ranking list, please do not hesitate to inform the crew. We will not tolerate this type of activity; we will not victimise any one party so long as we are properly informed of wrongdoings; the members will work with us to make this a fair and therefor more fun atmosphere.

3.

Literacy:

This is text-based role-playing. It should be obvious, then, that literacy is a cornerstone of the entire operation. We will tolerate no less than "semi-lit" (for casual players mostly), ranging up through "Adv. lit" (more for the seasoned vets, if you will).

      Semi-lit.: (normal literacy)

No text-talk third person past tense, and has a firm enough grasp on the language to get their points across. Grammatical errors should not be so large that they derail a post/destroy its meaning. Phrases like tho, thru, etc. will not be tolerated at any level. Please type the full word. Onomatopoeia are allowed, as are some neologisms (if they make sense in the context of the story), but be aware that overuse may weaken your writing and obscure your meaning. Should be at least one paragraph. Proper use of apostrophe is key. Players are encouraged to use a dictionary if they are unsure. This means slowing down and taking a second look at your post before submitting.

      Adv. lit.:

It should come as no surprise that the standards for these types of RPs are much higher as far as quality of writing is concerned: grammatical errors should be few and insignificant; proper punctuation is used; structure of paragraphs is more novelistic than reactionary (restating what the person/people before you said is an absolute eye-sore for avid readers/writers). There is no size limit, because, in my experience, players will sacrifice quality for quantity. That said, it is perfectly reasonable to expect certain things like timeskips, flashbacks, etc. from your partner(s) to lengthen their response.

4.

Activity:

We ask that you post at least once every two weeks. If you cannot manage that, we ask that you step down (you may always rejoin when you are better suited to post regularly). We follow the three days rule on posting. Please use the Activity Check thread to let us know when you are leaving/returning so we know how to post around your character (this will help you tremendously). If a member has been booted for inactivity, we reserve the right to terminate your character. We encourage members to become integral pieces to the Main RP storyline. This implies a certain demand of activity from the member. If it is seen that a member cannot handle this, or they have explained this to a crew member, that member may be asked if their character may be taken over by the crew. We will never play another's character without permission, however, we will likely ask to play you the member's character if they are absolutely integral to the story and killing them off at the moment is unsatisfactory to you who have taken the proper steps to alert us of inactivity or is simply not conducive for the plot at that time.

      Three Days Rule:

Players in posting rotation will give each other three days to post before skipping the lagging player's turn. That person will have another turn to redeem his/her/themselves; if they cannot post within three days of the player before them two turns in a row, that person is out of the rotation and the others may proceed at normal pace (whatever that may be).

5.

Respect the Crew:

This one shouldn't be overlooked for any reason (as if any of these rules should). We're trying our best to make this a fun place for you, so please try not to be angry when we offer a suggestion. You can appeal what you feel are wrongful rulings, but please do so respectfully.

6.

Separation:

It is crucial for us in striving for a friendly, fun environment to keep RPs and OOC separate. This doesn't need so much explanation; just be mindful of where your feelings end and where your character's begin. If you feel that a player is using a character to personally attack you, let us know immediately. Crew reserves the right to ban confirmed cases of this without warning. Banning will last one month for the first two offenses; third offense is an indefinite ban.

7.

Format:

Players must post with some kind of regular format. Format must at least include a working image (not too large) of character, quotes, and distinction between narration and dialogue at its very simplest.

8.

Exit:

When your character is leaving a location designated by a thread's name (leaving a thread), post that you are exiting somewhere where it is easy to see. If they are going to a place that is somewhere different from where they currently are, but is still considered within the bounds of a thread, you do not have to do this, but it is common (and wise) practice to keep a current location in one's posting format (this is mostly directed at those who have an entire RP in one thread, but may relate to those in the main RP (ex.: choosing to hang out in a mall upstairs instead of by the front door; it is still the same area, but is not the same place nor does it necessitate a new thread (if you feel a new location deserves a new thread, please PM or quote a crew member in OOC asking for permission to build said thread. Failure to do so will result in a warning; repeated breaking of this rule will lead to banning)).

9.

Character Creation:

When you are finished filling out a profile skeleton, please quote one of our VCs and wait for approval. Playing with an un-approved will not end well for you.

Excess characters tie up a guild; here we like a nice, streamline operation. This means setting limits on how many characters may be active at once per person. Now, that limit is different for everyone. If your first character is well-established and you feel bored, create a new one! If handling both of those characters at the same level of activity doesn't phase you, then you can make yet another, and so on. We will ask to delete some of your characters if your activity drops. This only applies to the Main RP.

10.

Thread Creation:

We run a tight ship around here; and as such we expect a certain level of responsibility on your part when creating a thread. If you wish to create a thread, please follow the procedure detailed below.

Next, punishments for breaking our rules.

1. Breaking ToS:

this will get you permanently banned no matter what. We would rather our guild not be shut down.

2. Mary Sues:

If your character is suspected to be a Mary Sue, we will first ask you about it (and most likely ask you to change it). We will not approve anything which resembles a Mary Sue. If it is noticed that your character has somehow grown MS-ish, we will ask you to either play the character in a better way, drop the character and try again, or simply leave the guild if this is too much trouble.

God-moding:

Any instance of god-moding will result in banning from the guild--for a first offence. Players may return after a month; if they god-mode again they will be permanently banned.

Autos:

these carry the same punishment as god-moding, as autos are the most common mode of GM-ing.

3. Illiteracy:

It is less easy to enforce a thing like this, especially at the upper levels, so the punishments here are generally more relaxed--mostly warnings. However, if it is brought to our attention that a player is using illiteracies such as "tho, thru, thnx," or cannot remember basic grammatical rules such as capitalising the start of a sentence, where to put an apostrophe, etc., they will be first warned very sternly, our crew being sure to provide links to resources; on the second offence, the offender will be banned for a month; on the third offence, permanently banned. If an application to join shows massive illiteracy, they will be declined and informed that they do not meet our literacy standards. Bear in mind: we will not witch-hunt our own; rather only grievous errors will be treated in this way.

4. Activity:

players who cannot meet the requirement of two posts per week will be terminated (allowing that they haven't posted in the activity check (it should be noted that no hiatus is too large if this thread is used))--that is to say banned until the player makes contact with one of the crew. The player will be put on a list so that he/she/they will not be invited again.

5. Respecting the Crew:

If it is sensed that a player has been unprovoked and rude toward our crew, that player will be banned for a month on the first offence with no warning. The second offence is a permanent ban, at which time all the player's characters will be deleted.

6. Separation:

      punishment included in rule.

7. Format:

if the player cannot fill the requirements stated in the rule above, that player will be given a warning and referred to the resources thread. If the problem persists, the player will be banned for a month at a time. If the problem simply will not be resolved, a player may be permanently banned for this (three times).

8.Exit:

Though this is an important rule, it will be enforced less harshly than most others. Three warnings, then a month ban; everyone makes mistakes.

9. Character Creation:

Playing with an un-approved character will result in a week ban for the first offence, a month ban for the second offence, and a permanent ban for the third offence.

Crew reserve the right to judge if a player is ready to create a new character/if the story will integrate a new character smoothly. If a character goes a month (real time) without a post, crew will ask you to make that character an NPC or simply post with said character. If an NPC has not moved for a month (real time) we will ask you to delete them or simply have an RPC interact with them. Please note that "I have no one to RP with" only highlights the problem; one should not make characters when they are not needed (see: "excess characters" ). Dropping characters is a good indicator of activity drops. For this reason we will not ban a player for dropping characters unless it is also an activity issue; only banning players if they post with no one for a month.

10. Thread Creation:

Failure to comply with the thread creation policy will result in a warning for a first offence, a month ban on second offence, and a permanent ban on third offence. Simply wait for approval, then you may create a thread; we will not create it for you.

How to create a character:

Creating a character is easy for this guild (even if you've never made one). Just a few steps to follow.

1. Choose a race.

2. Choose a class (these first two steps help us rank your character).

3. Fill in the personal information and write a bio (this helps us get a better feel for your character in general, and the bio can even influence ranking).

4. Fill in the era in which your character is going to be playing. This is hugely important. We need to know if your character is in the right place in time. If you're taking part in a plot centered around Ocarina of Time, for instance, we need to know your character belongs there and not in the main storyline. Before you ask crew for help, visit this thread.

5. Fill in your stats. Please choose one of the options given on the profile skeleton. Your character will become strong; just enjoy the journey~

6. Give them an inventory that matches their character. You have a certain amount of creative freedom here, so make the most of it and tell us what your character starts out with (subject to overrule).

7. Quote a VC and wait for approval.

That's it! Other than that, it's standard procedure; just fill everything out.

Housing:

Here housing is very simple. PM one of the crew with your thread's name, info, and link to wherever it resides already filled out We will give you permission to make the thread once we see that everything is in order. We do not create the threads, but if you skip this step your thread will be deleted--this is your warning.

Ex: I want my character, a Goron, to live at the foot of Death Mountain--not necessarily in the village, but in that area. I prepare a thread:

Name: Ga-Goro's House

Location: The foot of Death Mountain

Body: (img, summary, etc.)

Linked to: (url link to Death Mountain or Hyrule Field)

And I send this to a crew member in a PM. I wait patiently for the go-ahead, then create the thread following the layout I submitted. It's easy~ ^.^

[b]Name:[/b]

Money and Shops:

In Zelda, there are rupees. That's about it as far as currency. We all know the deal: they're in jars, under rocks, in chests... The list goes on. Simply have your character break something, lift something, open a chest, whatever it takes, to get rupees--within reason! Prices at shops are real and take your money, for real; it is good practice, then, to have your current money up at all times--just stick it in your format.

Formatting:

Which brings us to formatting in the first place. If you're new, you might not know what this is. Worry not; I will guide you to making a simple BB code format.

1. Alignment.

I always start with this. Center, left, right, justified--it doesn't matter. Everything will work out better if your text and codes agree with each other.

2. Image.

Every character needs an image. This is a must. Most players use Photobucket, but whatever works for you is always best. Photobucket has an easy share option that gives your image a more secure like than
      [img][/img]

3. Fonts.

Obviously size may help things like titles or names stand out, but it can also be quite effective if your character happens to be whispering. Color is also a huge consideration; many choose a color scheme for their text based on colors found in their character image. Many have three different text styles and/or colors ready to go in their format for narration, speech, and headcanon/inner thought.

4. Lists.

Obviously, keeping a clean-looking profile is key. Using lists can help you keep your paragraphs neat within your alignment. One list is basically like narrowing the margins of the page by about one indentation. You can also stack lists to make a more pronounced indentation.

    x
      x
        x
          Like this!

[list][color=white]x[/color]
[list][color=white]x[/color]
[list][color=white]x[/color]
[list]Like this![/list][/list][/list][/list]

5. Clear.

This is one of my favorite codes. It allows one to dictate where the text will appear in relation to an image. I would strongly recommend experimenting with it if you like to align images left or right, especially if you happen to want text underneath it.

6. "Where am I?" These little sections...

      Where am I:
      Who am I with:
      Current Mood:

Are often a good idea to keep in your format. Basically, they cover some things we'd rather not read through your post to know. This is good place to keep track of how much money you have. Most players like to have it near their character image.

Auditions:

If you want to play a more important character, or even just looking for a change of pace, the audition thread on the main page is where you need to be. Check there for an up-to-date list of open characters. If you see one you like, don't hesitate to quote a VC! They'll guide you through a little audition for the character. Many times I will jettison a character if I feel I'm being bogged down (because it's a rule), so chances are you could be playing an integral character very soon! emotion_yatta

Proofreading Resources:

Most browsers have a spellcheck built in, so it really baffles me when so many errors...

Never mind. What you need to know is that there are plenty of resources out there if you simply take the time to look.

http://www.dictionary.com/

This is probably my favorite. Simple, clean, easy to navigate. It even comes with a thesaurus!

Basically, you have been warned as far as illiteracy goes; we have provided a source which may help your writing tremendously and now you have no excuses (save English being your second language--in which case, you should tell us that immediately) for shoddy posts.

Forum Navigation:

You may notice that the first page of many threads in the forums have links on them. These are there to help you navigate as though you were in the hub-style world layout of LoZ games. Granted, it may not be perfect and it may only be on the first page, but I feel that, if you embrace, it could make things more convenient and immersive for you.
