Quote: This opponent is difficult solo, and pairs are suggested! You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a very large-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing. At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. Maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it. Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear. Hit Points: 60 HP Damage: 5 HP each time you attack If you bring this monster down below 5HP, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it. Either outcome, once finished with 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 15XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following: 1-25: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 26-95: Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it. 96-100: Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences. The wombat was delivered, her overshirt tucked and tied against her belt in case it would be needed later, and Rose was ready to go back on the hunt. The sense of urgency was no less, and if anything, their inability to find Cas had her believing he hadn't come, or... ...no, she wouldn't think of it. She kept close to Marisol, as if they parted too long, they might find one missing, or find themselves furry, lost and angry. For what felt like the tenth time in the span of as many minutes, her fingers found their way to Marisol, making sure she was there, reassuring she was too -- And it was why she almost missed the bear. Almost, because the thing was roaring, angry at their seemingly blundered presence, shreds of what might have once been clothes clinging to its thick fur. It seemed taller than both of the women, at least as wide, and almost in as foul a mood as Rose would have been if it were Cas. Unshouldering her bow, the blonde looked to her dancer, lips slightly pursed. "No rest for the wicked, it would seem."

A part of her had expected to run into Cas before they'd found the wombat. When that hadn't happened, then she hoped he might be back at the campsite. It seemed disappointment was the theme of the day. And that did not seem likely to change when of all things they found a bear.
The fabric was blue--why of all things that seemed to make her pause. Marisol forced it aside as her fingers locked around the blonde's own. She pulled, careful to keep it firm but not harsh, as she made sure they were both clear when it began to rush forward. She didn't know much but she knew they couldn't outrun it. Dodging was their best chance as it skidded to a stop, leaving them enough time to ready themselves.

The whip slid out with ease, as she tugged at it. She narrowed her eyes at the bear considering where it was best to aim. Jaws and claws were both deadly. Its weight alone could do them serious harm. Which was why she took a leap to the side, quickly tearing its attention from the blonde and onto herself. She'd have an easier time of dodging if it charged her. Whereas if it went after Rose--a regular bow was not as easy to work as a crossbow, she knew. "Hey, ugly," she remarked to the beast. It was a lie. Yes the bear was terrifying but it was far from ugly. Still it seemed to work as the bear roared at her. She used the time to lash her whip forward, snapping it harshly against the snout. "Marisol!" she fairly gasped in surprise as the dancer all but squared off with the bear, like it didn't have razor sharp claws and jaws that could pry limbs from body. Chosen or not, it was still a bear, and to see Marisol purposely drawing its attention from her was almost more than she could process.
She wasn't so foolish as to think they had to protect each other, so much as they worked well together; as such, she took the opportunity to make good on Marisol's actions, bow and arrow set in her able hands. With the giant back turned, she aimed at the shoulder and let loose her shot, the likes of which wedged deeply into the thick muscle there. "This is going to take some hell to heal," she mused out loud, but quite frankly, if it was between someone having to heal or Marisol having to heal, she knew what she'd pick, every time.

It wasn't exactly a mistake, she considered, as her actions put her way closer than she was really comfortable being. It was, however, not the brightest idea as it gave her a very limited amount of time to attack. Whips were agile and best used from afar, which this definitely wasn't as she lashed it haphazardly against the bear's throat. As long as she kept its jaws away, she could manage. Or so she guessed; jaws were probably more likely to kill her than claws were. Thankfully, in whatever way she lacked, her partner more than made up for. The arrow caught its attention and she darted backwards as she readied her arm. A quick chop and flick of her wrist sent it snapping against the animal's ear and earned her its attention as she once more continued to keep it away from Rose. If the blonde was harmed, she had a feeling she'd have more to worry about from Cas mauling her than the bear. Honestly it went both ways and she knew the bear would end up dead if it killed them. Marisol's Health: 42 - 5 = 37 HP Bear's Health: 44 - (50% x 4) = 42 HP

Ping pong. It was some sort of ping pong for the bear's attention, but Rose was more than willing to play. Another fast load and aim and the arrow was let fly, hitting almost exactly where the first had. Rose was no doctor, but she was pretty sure the shards she saw briefly were the bone being broken. I'm sorry and serves you right both came to mind, but she didn't say either, her focus between injuring the bear just enough and making sure her other was not hurt too badly in the process.
Rose could shake off her own wounds, but Marisol? Hell, even Cas? Not so easy.

The remnants of shredded clothes were the only thing that made the pride of seeing Rose excel falter. She wasn't exactly sorry but she did feel a tinge of remorse, or regret, because if that carried over it was really going to hurt. And yet, it served them right, at least a little bit, for going after them. She wasn't as egocentric to think she was above being wrong but she didn't care who or what hurt the people she cared about. They'd learn never to attempt it again. "After this, I'm going to let it wander a bit closer to you. I need more distance," Marisol called out as a warning. She'd pulled the bear far enough away that she was confident that by the time her next attack hit the bear it'd still be far enough from the blonde to prevent any damage. And it was rather clear why she needed that extra distance as the weak strike of leather merely made the bear grumble. It hurt, sure, but it wasn't likely to keep his attention on her when the arrows were more painful. Marisol's Health: 37 - 5 = 32 HP Bear's Health: 30 - (50% x 4) = 28 HP

"I've got you covered," Rose assured her partner in crime, slide to the side to make sure she visually got the creature's attention. "This way, charming," she called to the bear, using the toe of her boot to kick up a rock, firing her arrow into its shoulder when it did finally turn.
Yep, that got its attention.
The blonde dodged back, not fast enough to pull away from the claws entirely, but she was still standing and that was a win for the time being.

Distance achieved, Marisol was able to give her whip more momentum to slam down onto the bear's snout. The leather wrapped around its mouth and she gave a tug to pull it back towards her. "It's not nice to bite strangers without permission," she told it with a wink. As she let the tension go slack, she pulled to let the whip slip loose. The bear seemed to be wearing down and yet she had a bad feeling, it was not going to give up as easily as the wombat. Marisol's Health: 32 - 5 = 27 HP Bear's Health: 22 - (100% x 4) = 18 HP

The songstress could see the bear waning in its attacks, but it was still attacking, lunging -- she shared Marisol's gut feeling, but didn't give it a voice, answering the woman instead. "Even then, politely, and only where instructed." Rose smiled at the completely inappropriate banter in the worst time, but it was the absolute best thing and bolstered her in the way winning a battle could never do; she wasn't just a soldier, and she needed more than victory to keep going.
"Be careful," she murmured under her breath, though if it was to the bear, Marisol or herself, even she wasn't sure. Another arrow was let fly, hitting it low in the back, trying to lame it.

The reply on her tongue was swallowed as she lunged forward and sent the whip forward. While it contacted the bear's fur, it did not draw attention this time. Whether it had decided the blonde would be easier to take down or had seen the reason of why she'd been drawing its attention, she didn't know. All she did know was that cement had filled her limbs, but not her mouth. "Rose!" the shout wrenched from her mouth was harsh but the creature didn't pause. And Marisol knew if she got another hit in, it'd be to maim or kill. She didn't care who the ******** it was anymore. Or even if it had been a someone. She took a step back, her eyes a steely blue of resolute unyielding as the bear rose up high -- and then came down, taking her with it.
The world burst into blossoms and fireworks in her vision, white sparks from her head hitting the ground (did it? she couldn't tell -- ), her breath pulled from her lungs. And it was so, so heavy; Rose struggled to pull her arms up, and when the bear reared one arm back, she was able to fire directly into its chest.
It didn't move.
It didn't stop.
And she was pinned.
"Mari -- " she started to say the other's name, but her eyes were fixed on the paw and fear tightened her throat. Not fear of dying, but fear of Marisol having to see what would happen next...

The moment of being frozen was ripped away in the instance the woman was no longer on her feet. She didn't bother to consider what her mind thought, only knew that she had to interfere before that bear could do anymore damage. She pulled back her arm and let the whip shoot out. Leather collided with the bear's paw as it prepared to strike, preventing it from raising or lowering the offending limb. She yanked hard with every muscle and inch of strength she possessed until the bear was falling backwards, no longer able to balance. And while that rendered the beast immobile for a moment, it seemed to merely roll to its feet. She'd had more than enough of it though and picking up a broken shaft from one of Rose's arrows she sprinted forward and plunged it into the opening the singer's point blank shot had created. There was a loud roar and then it seemed to just hang. Paws raised, mouth ajar, blood streaking the brown fur. Before it toppled down, eyes closed. "Keep your filthy mitts off my girlfriend," she hissed at the creature before rushing forward. The venom transformed into a smile as she fell to her knees beside the blonde. "Hey, Sleeping Beauty, no time to rest on the job," she tried to tease, as she reached up to cup a cheek. Neither was unharmed but they were both alive. Marisol was magnificent. Rose had found herself literally trying to think of how to curl into herself to make the land of the paw as un-gruesome as she could, and Marisol literally Tarzan'd the bear. The blonde remained where she was, blue eyes wide, breath short, watching as the dancer climbed off of the beast and returned to her, looking up in amazement.
There were jokes about whips and chains and not pissing the brunette off playing over the tip of her tongue, but perhaps wisely, she let it pass. That was more for Cas to blunder into, thank you very much. "I'll be fine with a kiss from my King," she smiled, the shock of everything having happened so suddenly allowing her some time to react without guilt. She slowly pulled herself to her feet, bringing Marisol with her, brushing herself off -- and finding another of the Moly Flowers. Like the previous, she tucked it away, not having any inclination to pay it mind with her other at her side. "Are you alright?" she asked Marisol softly, hand lighting on her hip.

A breath of relief turned into a laugh as terror turned into joy. She allowed herself to be pulled up and just exist in the temporary peace of a finished battle. A smile flitted against her lips, "A kiss you shall receive, my Queen." It wasn't tentative nor long lasting considering their surroundings but it put some of the fear turned fire-raging exuberance into an action that spoke louder than words. Once she pulled back, "I'm fine." A little scratched and banged up, sure, but she'd live. "We should find Cas. I'm concerned we haven't even seen a trace of him yet." And she'd have been doubly concerned if she had found Rose yet either. She didn't want the dead bear carcass to be him. The moly flower was slipped into a pocket as she wrapped the whip about her waist. Fingers interlocked with Rose's, she led them back to the campsite. 66: Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.
