Turns out, it wasn't very hard to find beasties to fight. They found him first, in fact: Davor heard the rustling in the trees above him a second too late, a trio of squirrels getting the jump on him, literally, leaping onto him with angry chattering and tiny, adorable claws tearing at his hair and face.

What else could he do but shout in surprise at the flurry of fur and maybe-rabies all over him? He could drop his hammer, for one, a rather unwieldy weapon for this situation as he instead grabbed at them, the feel of teeth tearing into his fingers surefire sign he'd caught one of them.

Without hesitation, he threw the aggressive squirrel down and stomped it. He'd caught just enough of a glimpse of it to confirm it had no remnants of clothes or an eerily familiar stare -- just before it crunched underfoot.

This enemy can be fought solo!

You're attacked by a group of three small animals -- your choice what sort, but they should be native to the Louisiana area. Their eyes are crazed, and their action are erratic, implying that there's no sense behind their actions. These are wild beasts, and they attack together.

Hit Points: 10 each, for a total of 30, but one dies for each 10 HP damage you do to them.
Damage: Each does 2 each time you attack, for a total of 6 to start. This number goes down as you kill them.

If you successfully kill all three animals and reach 500 words, each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.
41-90: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.
91-100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Rabid Blood: these creatures have been infected with something that makes their blood potent. It can be vialed and used once to deal an extra 3 damage [after modifiers] on your next successful attack, after which it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever.

Davor didn't have much time to feel regret for such a brutal way of killing the little critter. The other two squirrels were savage, one of them chewing on his ear, the other -- oh god it was going down his shirt and this time he had at least knew better, searching frantically under his layers to stop the squirrel from probably trying to tear its way to his heart, he couldn't really know, it was just going wild in there. A skittering lump under his shirt, teeth nipping at -- well, best left to just say it was just nipping pretty hard that he needed it out immediately.

This time, once he'd been able to grab hold and pull the squirrel out, he was able to kill it with a quick and practiced neck-snap. A little more humane, right? Foes or not, he didn't exactly want to hurt the creatures. It wasn't their fault they'd gone mad. At the very least, they didn't seem to be turned fellow Chosen. But this guilt could be dealt with at a later date, or maybe never. Preferably never, if his booze had any say in it.

As for the final squirrel tearing at his ear -- and pretty good, too, considering the blood he could feel welling up -- Davor went to snatch it, but it seemed the vicious little creature had learned from its fallen brethren. It scurried away from his false limb, clambering down his back instead where he certainly couldn't reach, really he was trying. Better to be alone, help or not; he could just imagine the laughter his flailing would inspire. Fed up with this song and dance, he slammed back against the very tree they'd come from. Your own home turned against you, squirrel. He could sympathize with that.

Not unlike a bear scratching its back, he... he pressed against the tree, moving up and down until he could no longer feel its claws trying to tear through his coat. Just to ensure it was really dead. Not one of the worst things Davor had done in his life, but quite possibly up there.

After all was said and done, only one of the squirrels left over was in any shape to be useful. Food, pelt, he'd decide later. For now Davor stuffed it into one of his coat's pockets, its fluffy little tail dangling out as an obscene reminder of the horror its short life had endured. The one stuck to his boot, he'd peeled off and inspected it. Not as bad as it could have been, he supposed. That one... that could go in one of his inner coat pockets. No one had to know it was there, but it might come in handy.

As for the last squirrel, it was in poor shape, to make an understatement. A bloody, twisted parody of what was once was a cute forest friend. Davor watched it sloooowly start to come off and finally drop off the tree's bark, landing at its roots. Maybe there was something poetic about the way it landed right next to a flower, but whatever deep meaning that carried about the environment or war or whatever was lost on him because, ooh, pretty flower! Plucking it up, Davor was reminded why he loved forests so much. Mad animals aside.
