OOC Note: You cannot participate in this thread until you have completed both the Down in the Bayou opening prompt as well as rolled to see if you become an animal here.

You can start a monster thread at any time. Simply put [MONSTER] in the title of your thread, and choose one of the options below. You take damage each time you attack the monster. You do not take damage while defending. You can flee at any time, but doing so costs you 10HP.

Between battles, your HP recovers completely. You can fight the same monster multiple times, but can only be in one monster thread of each kind at a time, and a monster thread doesn't count as completed until each party has hit at least 500 words. Extra words do not award bonus XP.

If you die, you die, so make sure you flee the fight before your character hits -10HP or else that is the end of your character at this point in time. But there may be opportunities for them to come back later...

As a reminder, if you have been turned into an animal, you cannot participate in any other threads until you've been defeated in a spar as outlined in the Turned Chosen information below. After you've been defeated and captured, you are free to participate in PRPs or any of the other Monster threads as outlined below:

This enemy can be fought solo!

You're attacked by a group of three small animals -- your choice what sort, but they should be native to the Louisiana area. Their eyes are crazed, and their action are erratic, implying that there's no sense behind their actions. These are wild beasts, and they attack together.

Hit Points: 10 each, for a total of 30, but one dies for each 10 HP damage you do to them.
Damage: Each does 2 each time you attack, for a total of 6 to start. This number goes down as you kill them.

If you successfully kill all three animals and reach 500 words, each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-10: You are bitten during the attack, and are turned into an animal! Size is determined by your weapon: agile weapons become small animals, balanced become medium sized, and heavy become large.
11-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.
41-90: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.
91-100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Rabid Blood: these creatures have been infected with something that makes their blood potent. It can be vialed and used once to deal an extra 3 damage [after modifiers] on your next successful attack, after which it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever.

This enemy can be fought solo!

You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a medium-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.

At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.

Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.

Hit Points: 30 HP
Damage: 4 HP each time you attack

If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.

Either outcome, once finished witth at least 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-10: You are bitten during the attack, and are turned into an animal! Size is determined by your weapon: agile weapons become small animals, balanced become medium sized, and heavy become large.

TURNED CHOSEN:

This is not a monster fight but a spar with any PC that has been turned into an animal. We suggest two Chosen per turned PC!

Turned PCs do damage based on their weapon weight. This means that base damage and bonuses match the standard weapons:

Balanced weapons, or weapons of a middling/average weight, do a base of 6 damage.
Agile weapons, or weapons that are small and light, do a base of 4 damage but give +1 to your hit roll.
Heavy weapons, or weapons that are big and heavy, do a base of 10 damage but give -1 to your hit roll.

However, in this case, PCs always attack first. Instead of rolling init, the class of your weapon is used to determine HP.

Turned PCs with Ranged weapons have 60HP.
Turned PCs with Melee weapons have 70HP.
Turned PCs with Defensive weapons have 80HP.

Once Turned PCs are brought down to 5HP or below, they can OOC choose to submit to capture -- aka, taken back to camp and kept safe until a solution to the problem can be found -- or run away, at which point they escape the thread and recover all HP for their next battle. Either way, all parties who participate in the thread get standard Spar XP: 10XP for completing the spar, and an additional 10XP if they hit 800 words.

This opponent is difficult solo, and pairs are suggested!

As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.

At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. Maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.

CAPTURING TURNED NPCS:

Quote:
The most difficult, but some of the most important, enemies to take down are the turned NPCs: the high-ranking Heroes that escorted the PCs on their adventure, only to be transformed, leaving them to fend for themselves. Now is the time to capture those NPCs, to bring them back, and to figure out how to turn them back into human.

Each turned NPC can only be defeated once, and must be taken on in a group of 5. However, if you flee from a failed attempt against an enemy NPC, a new group can take them on.

If you're going to fight an NPC, make sure that you have a team of five, and then pick from the opponents below:

Brynn:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

As an armadillo, Brynn has a thick hide that protects her from incoming attacks -- but she's small, and does a small amount of damage a turn. The result is a long fight, but not a terribly dangerous one.

Health: 200HP
Damage: 3 damage each time you attack.
Special Movie: Every 3 times she's hit, she rolls into a shell and absorbs the next 10 damage dealt against her. During this time, she deals no damage.

After defeating one of the above Hero NPCs, each party involved in the battle gets 25XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-70: Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.

86-95: Map Piece: If the map hasn't been fully assembled, you acquire one additional piece. This can only be collected once per battle, but rolling this also yields a bonus 5XP.
96-100: Small Personal Item: You find a small personal item from the defeated NPC, that can be used later on for a one-on-one RP with that NPC. Brynn: A small metal bug sculpture. Chris: a hand-made fishing lure. Olivia: The charm from a bracelet, with a bullet on it. Griffin: A claw necklace. Rafe: A picture of a woman and a young girl.

Chris:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

As a gater, Chris has a touch skin and a mouthful of nasty teeth that can deal a decent amount of damage. The result is a medium-length, medium-risk battle.

Health: 150HP
Damage: 7 damage each time he's hit.
Special Move: Every 3 times he's hit, Chris becomes tired and takes a rest for the next 3 hits. During this time he can be hurt and attacked, but deals no damage until he recovers.

As a horse, Olivia is quite fast and has a heavy kick, but isn't particularly durable. Her fights will be relatively swift, but quite brutal.

Health: 100HP

Now that cures have been discovered, during Turned NPC or PC Monster Fights you can attempt to cure your opponent to bring the battle to an end!

This will require two people.

One rolls to defend, as per standard d4 rolls; if they're 100% successful in their defense, the other can attempt to force the cure.

The second rolls 1d6; on a 4+ straight roll, no weapon modifiers, they successfully make their opponent eat/drink, and they are cured. Once they are cured,, you can still loot!
