Days went by and things were going on without too much disturbance. It was like this after Blackfriars. The human world continued on as if nothing had happened. Shun had to basically go along with that, even if his mind continued to dwell on things as it always did. It was exhausting. Sleep troubles weren't helping with any of the above either.

Supplies were short at his apartment, and it was time to get groceries. A mundane task. A normal task. No magical mayhem there. At least there shouldn't be any. He should try to not take it for granted.

Wheeling his cart down the cereal aisle, he looked over the various brands, seeking out something that he liked. Honey bunches of oats. Good enough. Time to move on.

Chris didn't want to leave the apartment, but the fact was this: they needed food and through vote (read: Thorne basically bribing Chris with promises of baked goods), Chris was the one who was going to go get it. So with a sigh, Chris managed to dress in something at least half nice and wouldn't alarm any of his students or professors if he saw them, and went to the store, trying to ignore that feeling of dread he felt when he left the apartment. The idea that Thorne would be gone when he came back.

He was about halfway through shopping and was grabbing cereal, Honey nut Cheerios (for him) and Reese's peanut butter puffs (for Thorne) when he found himself bumping into another cart in the aisle.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Chris said, turning to look at who it was. He blinked in surprise, recognizing who he had bumped into. "Oh, you're a familiar face. It's funny, I've seen you a lot but never in a normal situation. I'm Chris."

Shun grunted lowly with someone else bumped their cart into his. The voice that followed it was somewhat familiar. Turning to see who it was, he recognized the man before him. It seemed he always saw this guy around when s**t was going down.

"A bit of an understatement," he sighed, before offering his name, "Shun."

Judging the way the guy had shown up on the big screen at the theater incident, it seemed that Chris has been involved with all the magical nonsense for quite some time. Possibly as long as the Mercers.

"Small town, but some people I only really see when there is trouble afoot."

"Shun," He repeated, then added, "Nice to meet you when we're not about to die. Or when someone else is going to die."

He smiled but it was a little grim, not entirely reaching his eyes. It was clear he hadn't slept in awhile.

"Kinda weird, isn't it? Makes for knowing the kind of community though easier, I suppose. Support group for all the weird stuff that happens."

"Except on the outside any support group for us would appear like a gathering of lunatics," Shun stated dryly. Then again, who was to say they weren't all still crazy after everything that's happened?

"But for now... 'normalcy', at least until the next incident. Whenever that may be."

"Well doesn't any support group look like that to people who don't use it? Admittedly though, we'd be weirder than most, with all our additional features," Chris said, giving a bit of a smile. No, they were an odd bunch, but hey at least it was with a group rather than alone. Always better to have people around who knew that magic was thing, so you weren't weird for knowing about it alone.

"Hopefully not till next year. I'd say 'never' but well. I feel like I'd be spited with something next week and there's obviously something bigger than us at play. Always feels like that, anyways, you know?"

A sigh escaped him.

"That is a very hopeful thing to say, but I doubt it will be quiet for that long. There are several myths revolving how the boundary between this world and the spiritual one is thinner around the time of Halloween. Perhaps there is some stock to that."

As apt as it'd be, Shun was not looking forward to potential Other Ashdown Halloween shenanigans.

"But yes... we are all in over our heads, really."

Chris bit his lip, chewing on it in a second for thought. He hadn't really considered it, as growing up he hadn't had much participation in Halloween but if that was true well. It was going to be obnoxious.

"Knowing Ashdown, there probably is some stock. But at least we can prepare for that. Blackfriars and what just happened, that was completely out of the blue. I didn't expect well. Everything."

He shrugged but looked rather uncomfortable mentioning it and moved back to a safer (or well, saferish) topic.

"We kind of are, but I think we'll come out alright. We have to, anyways. No other choice."

Even knowing that something could happen around that time, he wasn't sure if they could truly be prepared. It was hard to say just what would happen exactly. But if nothing did end up happening, that was perfectly fine with him.

"All of this is just... highly unpredictable."

Shun's gaze darkened a bit at the mention that they had no other choice.

"Well the only other option is failure, which..."

It could mean that another cycle would begin anew and they'd have to go through all of this yet again. Or maybe they wouldn't even get another chance.

"Well," Chris shrugged again, giving Shun something of a frown. "I don't think chaos ever favored good. Or if it did, Ashdown clearly missed the memo and we're all stuck picking up behind it."

Chris didn't miss the look Shun was giving, but he knew it all the same. Had seen it in a few different places.

"Yeah. But you know, I like to... try to think positive. It helps, sometimes."

Not always, of course, considering his current situation, but the times it did were nice. Useful even. Maybe not realistic, but useful.

"Chaos has its place in the world. But... as with anything, there needs to be balance."

Other Ashdown seemed to be anything but that to him. Perhaps that was a part of why destroying the enemy was important. Maybe he was wrong.

"Regardless... we will need to try our damnest to succeed. I do not think it will be possible to do so if we lack conviction."

They were going to need a lot more than just that, but without that drive to get the means to pull this off, they were probably doomed. He just worried that he wouldn't be able to do any real contributions to any of this. His attempts thus far have been falling short. Far too short.

"You're right," Chris said, nodding. He couldn't find anything to add, or counter to it, which was fine really. He liked Shun - straight and to the point. Good in a situation, helpful.

More helpful than Chris felt on a regular basis, anyways.

"Yes, we will. But I think as a group, we have it. Or at least, a portion of us do."

A portion of them... Yes, that sounded about right. Not all of them had it. Not yet. Maybe not ever, but some of them did. Hopefully that was enough.

After a moment of consideration, he slowly draw his phone out of his pocket and hesitantly offered it over.

"You seem like you know the Mercers pretty well, and honestly they could probably aid more than I, but if something comes up and they are not available, perhaps I can do something."

Chris smiled at the offer at his phone, digging his own out of his pocket and handing it over.

"I do, but there's always something about numbers. And I think you're helpful too, the Mercers trust you. That says something."

Shun took the phone and dialed out his number on it. Though, he just left it on the screen to let Chris add him however he pleased. This was mostly because he didn't want to embarrass himself trying to spell his own name correctly on the device.

He shifted in place, uncertain of how much they should trust him. He probably needed to be a little more reliable to warrant that.

"I suppose so."

Sounds good to me!
