Anya's skin is milky white, inherited from her mother's side of the family. She's a petite girl and at 4 foot 7 inches, is a little tall for her age. A bubbly, hopeful child who is almost always smiling. She's still young with no hints of the beauty she will one day become. Her face is a little round with baby fat with a tiny button nose. Her complexion is completely clear, something her mother laminates will be ruined in the sun and exposure of a summer camp. Her smile is bright and always reaches her eyes, her teeth perhaps too white from all the bleaching treatments she's gone through but perfectly straight. Her posture is wonderful and it's often hard for her to relax, even when sitting down and chatting with friends or playing games.
Clothes wise, just about everything she was sent with was camp inappropriate. Fluffy dresses that could blind other campers with the amount of rhinestones and light reflecting decorations on it, shoes that would never survive more than 2 seconds on actual grass. Luckily she managed to cobble together something by popping off a lot of sequins (Her mother is going to kill her) and removing layers of fabric off other things into a cute dress with short sleeves, over tights and some plain black mary janes. (Please design outfit here, I don't even know how to direct you other thing something cute like what Card Captor Sakura would wear hunting Clow Cards.) She has tiny metallic silver studs in her ears and some of her curls are held back from her face by small, black metal hairpins topped with small black stars.
Personality:
Anastasia Vasilisa Starikov is a bright girl of 10, with a adorable laugh and a smile that never seems to fade. Cheerful, bubbly, willing to talk to anyone, she has an easy charm that most people warm too. She is also very lady-like and polite, training from many classes and charm courses she just can't shake no matter how hard she tries to be more casual and playful around other campers. She's not very athletic, and tends to fall behind in some of the sportier play and events.
With the recent discovery of her psychic powers, you cannot un-convince her that she is not a blossoming magical girl. In addition to learning about her powers, she expects her talking magic companion and magical weapon any day now.
History: Anya's parents both hail from Russia. Her mother, Karina Zhidkov-Starikov was a regionally popular fashion model from her teens to her mid twenties. Her father, Kazimir Starikov, a handsome man himself, is a third generation lawyer heading the East Coast arm of the family law firm in America. The couple immigrated after they were both newly weds. They had not planned to marry so quickly as Kazmir was going to establish himself in America and then bring over Karina, but it was discovered that was she pregnant with their first child.
Of her siblings, Anya is the youngest of five. Her older brothers are Egor aka Eric (19), Kostya aka Kody, (17), Nikolai aka Nick (15), and Sasha aka Sean (13). Despite their parents giving them "good, proud" Russian names, all of the children go by easier to pronounce nicknames. Karina was overjoyed when her final child was a girl.
Unlike her brothers who grew up and did basically whatever they wanted to, Anya's life was a bit more regimented and controlled by her mother. Determined to make her daughter into even more of a famous model then she was, Anya has been in many beauty contests, pageants, local commercials and print advertising. The bright 10 year old attends the same private school as her brothers and after school there are many classes and lessons to attend to. Her father worries about the sort of expectations that his wife is putting on their daughter. Anya herself doesn't really mind all of the things her mother wants her to do, she finds most of it boring and does wish she could run around outside more often, something she's restricted to doing only at certain times and under supervision. ("She might get hurt, the sun will freckle or burn her delicate skin, the boys will be too rough with her!") The major advantages to her life style is that she loves to see her mother absolutely light up when she sees her on stage or in a commercial and the costumes.
When she ISN'T in a pageant or a lesson, Anya bounces around her home in her costumes (to her mother's dismay), waving a light up star wand from Halloween. She is obsessed with magical girls and is determined that that is what she will be when she gets older. She just knows, she is different somehow and you'll see one day! One day her magical powers will manifest and her life saving people from monsters or invaders or whatever is in the world will begin. While this started out as something silly she picked up from a saturday morning cartoon when she was a bit younger, her determination has only grown stronger the older she gets. Anya opens old books, digs through anything that looks like it hasn't been opened in awhile, talks to and pets all the stray animals she comes across. While most of these antics can be amusing, it's lead to more than one round of rabies shots and a few ruined books.
While it was no surprise to her when things sometimes began to levitate or her wand would turn on and blink on it's own, replicating these phenomena to her family to prove her magicalness always ended up in failure. In the weeks before camp, Anya was growing increasingly frustrated and started acting out. She knew she could these things but couldn't prove it. Her parents had started fighting, Kazmir blaming Karina for putting so much pressure on Anya that she was escaping into a fictional world to cope.
The day when her parents realized that Anya had not been kidding was a day that nearly cost Kazmir his life. The Starikov house was under an increasing amount of stress because of all of the fighting and after a cold, silent breakfast, Kazmir bid his children goodbye and left for work. Anya had a mouthful of yogurt when her father placed a kiss on her cheek on his way out. The girl's stomach lurched and her brain felt like it was going to press out of the front of her skull. She could see it, for some reason, in her head, her papa surrounded by glitter in the brief moment before the vision went black and she hear the sounds of cars honking. Anya fell out of her chair and spat up her yogurt, her body quaking and her head splitting. She didn't know why, but she knew, she knew something was going to happen to her Papa.
Karina had never seen her little girl so frantic before in her life. Her child, her blouse stained with yogurt and spit, huge tears rolling down her cheeks, begging her to take to see her father . Even as she explained that they couldn't see Papa right now, he was working, Anya persisted and became even more agitated the longer her mother hesitated. Karina was becoming frightened, maybe Kazmir had a point about the pressure as nothing she could do or say was calming her daughter down. Finally she relented. First she would take Anya to see her father, and then to a psychologist.
The car had barely stopped when Anya wriggled out of the child seat and threw open the door. Just as her mother managed to get out of the car as Anya beat a path to the front of the building, there was a shattering noise and someone screamed. Kazimir Starikov seemed suspended in mid air, shards of glass glittering in the sunlight. Karina shrieked her husband's' name as he started to plummet down to earth. Anya began to run towards her father and as her foot hit the ground, she suddenly sprang up. As it was recounted to her later, Anya seemed to have suddenly jumped impossibly high right into her father's arms. She grabbed him in a tight hug and they were falling together. Just as they were about to hit the ground, the father and daughter seemed to bounce, as if they'd hit a trampoline before finally crashing into the side walk.
It was many days before Anya woke up again in the hospital. Scratched up from the fall and glass, her entire family, included her bandaged up Papa were surrounding her. She learned that one of her Papa's clients had come to the firm armed and ready to murder his legal team and himself. A misfired bullet had broken one of the huge windows in a conference room and Kazmir had been shoved into the window breaking it and sending him to almost certain doom. They also told her that some people had come by who had heard about the incident and explained to the family what this meant. Her papa was using confusing terms like precognition and levitation. Her brother Kostya cut their father off, squeezed Anya's hand and said "What he means is, you really are a magical girl."
