Who: Dair, Ethiriel, and Nell
Where: At the park
When: Mid-morning
Weather: Bright and sunny, with the slightest hint of cooler weather in the air

Their days had started to settle into a comfortable sort of rhythm once they had cautiously found their boundaries and had gotten used to being around each other. Nell had cut back on the clients she had picked up to fill up her free time, and a good chunk of the day was free for her to spend with Dair, trying to get him to (slowly) experience as much of life as possible.

Mornings, though, had settled into a distinct pattern. Both were early risers, and after a bit of futzing around with breakfast and getting dressed, they were out of the door and off to one of the various parks nearby. For Nell it was a chance to get some fresh air and get some running in before work, and for Dair it was a chance to soak up some nature that wasn't the beach. At first Nell had Dair tag along with her on her run, often with him holding onto her shoulders and trailing after her, but after a bit of convincing she let him wander off on his own as long as he stuck near the path where she could keep an eye on him.

So stick to the path he did, finding a bench that was tucked away near a grove of trees, waving to Nell each time she jogged by and watching everyone else who walked by curiously (Usually once they noticed him they started walking a bit faster).

This had become a routine for Ethiriel, as well. Get up early with Henry, enjoy a light breakfast together before seeing the nurse off to work, talking with Gabe for a few moments and then leaving the house on her own devices. Henry knew that she wouldn't stray too terribly far from Gambino, sticking mostly to the parks and in the view of public. Nedhudir was always at her side, too, and there was also her phone.

There was little danger for her.

As fate always seemed, Ethiriel found herself on the same path as Nell (though she couldn't recognize her scent with the distance), but a different scent managed to catch the Sigel's attention -- burnt wood.

Eyes widening and brows knitting, the silver Raevan halted for just a moment. There didn't seem to be any heat or smoldering grass... but it seemed so close. There was also another earthy tone accompanying it; the musty scent of handled stone. Eyes still wide, Ethiriel fruitlessly glanced around in her own personal darkness to try and find the source. Nedhudir didn't seem bothered... was everything okay?

Without being close enough, she couldn't necessarily connect the source as being a Raevan.

Nell, unfortunately, had just rounded the next bend as Ethiriel approached, or else she would have immediately made a beeline for the newly grown (to her, at least) Raevan. So Dair was surprised, to say the least, when the next person who came into his field of vision wasn't quite the same as the runners he had been seeing all morning.

His head swiveled around to look at the other Raevan (another Raevan!) fully, eyes widening slightly as he took in her appearance, faintly similar to his own, though she seemed to have much more of a body than he did. Fingers drummed lightly on the seat of the bench for a moment before he seemed to come to a decision and slowly floated a bit closer to the strange Raevan.

"Hello...?" His voice was hesitant and he stopped a good distance away from her, not quite sure exactly how to proceed beyond that. But completely ignoring her, he knew, would be beyond rude. Besides, how often is it that you randomly come across someone like this?

little does he know it is very often, oops

As Dair approached, the scent became stronger and only resulted in Ethiriel tensing further, her brows steadily rising more. The Sigel remained still, silent, waiting, as she tried to process what was happening. Nedhudir had finally perked, felt through his leash, but other than that there was no reaction from the collie.

Once he spoke, his raspy voice ringing in Ethiriel's ears, she finally let out a breath. Her expression barely changed; her brows lowered, loosened, but her lips remained parted in concern. Now that he was closer and the scent was unmistakable, her fear lessened.

Milky eyes wandered as she hadn't been able to quite catch the direction of Dair's voice, unable to quite get an anchor on his location.

"Hello..." Ethiriel responded, her voice wavering -- it wasn't often that she was shaken, at least not with fear or concern, but without knowing what was causing the scent had put her on edge. Clearing her voice, she straightened her posture and attempted to smile. "A young Raevan...?" Or, at least, one she hadn't met, yet.

That was certainly an unusual reaction. Not that he had terribly much experience to judge against, but she almost looked afraid. But he waited a few moments, head tilted to the side slightly as he watched her. She eventually relaxed, or tried to at least, and he inched forwards a bit closer.

"Yes," he said after a moment of consideration. "Yes, I suppose I am. My name is Dair..." He trailed off uncertainly, though, wondering if perhaps he shouldn't have approached her. Surely if something had been terribly wrong the dog wouldn't be so calm (he thought so, at least, this pretty much being his first personal encounter with one), but the amount of nervousness in her posture was clear as day.

"Are...you alright?" Maybe if Nell were here she could at least mediate their meeting or ease some of her nervousness, but a quick look around showed her to be nowhere in sight.

By the time the question passed Dair's lips, Ethiriel had managed to relax a tad further. Her brows remained tight but her mouth no longer parted and her breath evened. His confirmation over his being had confirmed the Sigel's thoughts -- he was the source of the smell; there was no danger. However... with the raspy quality to the Frei's voice, an instinct kicked in that the silver Raevan couldn't quite place. There was concern over this other Raevan's well being, for certain.

"Yes, I... I apologize. Normally I am easier to approach," Ethiriel chuckled, though it was low and soft. Easing her posture, she offered Dair a small bow, her hair pooling over her shoulders. "Sorry to worry you. My name is Ethiriel."

Back when she was a young Frei, Ethiriel would have greeted her new "friend" with a kiss to each cheek -- as she had grown older, the Sigel had learned to accommodate the personal space of others and gauge comfort levels before moving close. She still liked to touch, hold, make contact, but she bit her tongue and held back.

Her sightless eyes wandered for a brief moment before she spoke again. "Your scent had me worried. I thought something was burning... What, may I ask, is your essence?"

Dair's own stance relaxed slightly as Ethiriel's did, and though it was probably a bit pointless to do, he inclined his own head in a bow in return.

"There is nothing to apologize for, I appreciate your concern. " Though what, exactly, she was concerned about was still a bit of a mystery to him. He hadn't been burned, as far as he was aware, and what he knew of his essence didn't seem to indicate much of a chance of burning either. But, ah, there was something else that that could be the cause.

"My essence is called a cursed hag stone, " his words were a bit hesitant, not quite sure of how being made of a supposedly cursed item would be taken by others. "My soul was struck by lightning though, so that might be it?" A look down at his hands showed no burnt wood (bark? Skin? He wasn't sure the proper word for it), but he also caught a glimpse of the scars that cruised his chest and shoulders. Well, guess it has more of an effect on him than he thought.

Humming in response, a surprisingly timid smile threatened the corners of Ethiriel's mouth. While his voice still made the Sigel yearn to make her new companion "well," as it were, his mannerisms and calm demeanor certainly eased her worries.

Ethiriel lifted her chin at Dair's essence, though she was hardly bothered and her serene expression expressed that. Her mouth did hang open slightly as he explained his soul, however, and suddenly everything made sense. With just a moment's thought, she spoke; "Lightning," she repeated, a touch of hesitance in her voice. She had no problem with lightning, given her lack of vision, but what came after... Shuddering, Ethiriel finally nodded. "I take it your soul is plant based -- presumably a tree? I suppose that would mean we are kin in more ways than one."

Finally she offered a proper laugh, light and airy as it danced on her tongue. It was still soft, reserved, but it was far from uncomfortable now that things were made clear. "Cursed hag stone... That is quite fascinating. My essence is unoxidized silver, and my soul is that of a tea plant. Green tea, to be exact." The addendum was added when she realized it didn't reflect in her current appearance. To be honest, she had no idea what color her outfit was, but it certainly wasn't the outfit she had grown into. It was a thin, deep blue v-neck shirt with long sleeves -- it hadn't become cold quite yet, but it was comfortable enough for her.

"Yes, an oak tree, " He held up his hands for further clarification only to have them drop back down to his side only a moment later. Right, that wouldn't be very useful to her would it. He made a quiet, surprised noise at her next comment, edging a bit closer in interest.

Another plant soul, how about that! He might have been able to guess that from her wings at least, but the metallic quality of her branches had thrown him off slightly. "There are many with plant souls, then?" A bit of the formality left his voice as his curiosity started to win out over politeness.

Ethiriel had been around so long now, she never thought to explain her blindness. As far as she was aware, Dair knew and understood already -- not knowing that he was quite fresh out of the tank.

"There are a few," Ethiriel confirmed. She hadn't met all of them, she was sure, but a large chunk of them she had already become acquainted with. To be honest, the Sigel couldn't quite remember every Raevan but there was at least that bond that they all shared. "I'm sure they would love to meet you. We all adore meeting more of us."

"Really?" He couldn't quite keep the hint of wonder out of his voice as he imagined the multitudes of others out there who were like him. Or, at least more like him than most people. "I haven't met any others yet, actually, it would be nice to..." Nell would definitely have to be asked about that. She would know more of them, wouldn't she? There was an impatient sort of huff from him as he looked down at his hands, picking absently at a loose piece of bark on the back of one of his fingers, though he stopped abruptly when he noticed something a bit closer to the ground.

"Oh! I almost forgot, how rude of me. Who is your friend?" With a smile he hovered lower so he was closer to being eye-level with Nedhudir, pressing his hands against the ground to keep himself steady.

The Sigel smiled at Dair's musings, whether they were necessarily directed at her or not -- to her, they almost sounded rhetorical. Answering anyway, Ethiriel nodded, "There are quite a few of us. Plenty I haven't even met yet..." At least, if Henry's reading of the contact sheet was any indication. "I have been around for five years." She had also been passed down by her original guardian, but that wasn't exactly a point she was about to bring up.

"Hm?" Ethiriel hummed, brows raised at the question. While she couldn't see Dair's adjustment to be eye level with the collie, she could feel the dog's tail began to wag through his leash. With a smile, the Sigel hovered lower to gently pet her companion's head -- met with a gentle lick to her hand. "This is Nedhudir; he's my seeing-eye dog and good friend."

The collie didn't move from his spot, seated beside Ethiriel.

"Hello, Nehudir," he said quietly, simply staying where he was for a few moments, seemingly content with that simple greeting. With a much larger smile and a quick bob of his head towards the dog he pushed himself back up from the ground and back to his normal floating level. "Five years? Does it take that long to-"

"Ooooooooh my god, Ethiriel!" Nell jogged up to the two Raevans, breathing heavily as she had sprinted down the last part of the path to make sure that Dair hadn't gotten into any trouble. "It's so good to see you again! You look so good, what the heck!" She planted her fists on her hips, looking over to Dair with an expression that seemed to be saying 'right???'. The look Dair gave her back didn't give her much of an answer.

"I see you two have already met! You here by yourself today?"

Nedhudir panted heavily, giving that silly grin that dogs usually carried, as he wagged his tail at Dair. Unfortunately he wasn't the best example for how dogs acted given his training and purpose.

While the question itself was easy enough to guess its entirety, Ethiriel waited patiently for the stone to finish but her attention drifted for only a moment before heavy foot falls and Nell's voice rang out. With raised brows at the approaching woman's exclamation, the Sigel turned towards Nell's direction with an easy smile. "Hello, Nell. It's wonderful to see you too," she replied, the smile in question meeting her eyes. "I feel good, too. I was not aware that your Raevan had finally grown!" She then gave a nod towards the second question, though it was slow and graceful. "It seems to me that we always run into each other during your workouts."

And even though she couldn't see it, it was still easy to pick out Nell's large grin in her voice. "Hasn't been too long at all, really, " she said fondly, reaching over to try and smooth out some of Dair's hair which had gotten rather disheveled. With an irritated look he batted her hand away, which only made her laugh. "I'm glad you ran into each other though, I've been trying to figure out a good way to get him to meet people that isn't too, hmmm, overwhelming."

"Oh gosh, that's not too hard to do at all, sem to do that more than anything else these days. But we'll have to see about setting something up, huh? " At this she looked over at Dair for his input.

"I would like that."
