Nathaniel Parrish - 15 / 25 - run forrest run
He wasn't aware of much; the slap of his booted feet against the floor, the coppery tang of blood in the air, the strength of his grip around Lily's hand, and the overwhelming sense of failure. Whatever had happened, whatever they had done - or not done - Nathaniel could not help but feel as though they had not succeeded.
There were a lot of people trying to do exactly what they were doing, and his grasp tightened so as to not lose his date in the crowd of yelling and fighting people. There were brief glimpses of people he vaguely recognized here and there, and then they were in a hallway, and it was like a breath of fresh air, but Nathaniel didn't slow down until they were far enough away that his chest was hurting from trying to run.
He skidded to an uneven stop, turning to look at Lily.
"I don't - know where to go - "

Lily Babineaux: 20/25 - And the bass keeping runnin' runnin' The rooms of the grand estate had been named by colors, but each and every hallway seemed a blur of grey, dull and lifeless and identical from turn to turn. They might have been that way at the start of the night--Lily could not remember, her head swimming with blood and screams and everything she hadn't done. Even her one lifeline felt tainted by shame, each tug of Nathaniel's hand a reminder that 'You brought him here, you brought him to this.' She was ultimately responsible for getting him out of here safely, she was the one who should have understood the workings of this place, but in truth she couldn't have felt more lost. She considered each of the corridors, tugging him towards the left. "This way," she said, pressing on with his hand in hers. This had been the way out...right? Something lashed out at her from just around the bend, and Lily screeched not quite humanly as she fought to maneuver her way free from the sharpened limbs of a giant centipede. "Nope, I was wrong, I was so wrong!" she shouted, trying to hold it away from Nathaniel, her claws doing nothing against the hard chitin of its segments. shibrogane 5 - You've been found by an enraged otherbeing! Nathaniel Parrish - 10 / 25
He was breathing heavily, chest rising and falling with each ragged breath that seemed to tear at his throat. Nathaniel felt the weight of everything bearing down upon him, and Lily was tugging him down a hallway to the left, his pulse roaring in his ears.
He thought he could still smell the blood, but maybe he was just imagining it all.
They'd only taken a few steps before something reared out at them. Nathaniel gave a yell of surprise, and a claw scraped at his shoulder, making him gasp in pain. He staggered back, Nathaniel half dragging Lily with him, trying to get the both of them out of the way.
"Maybe a different hallway!" he gasped out, stumbling a little. "Are you okay?"

Lily Babineaux: 20/25 - ******** this s**t I'm out "I'm fine, let's just go," she stammered, sloughing off the creature with a heavy heave. Lily kicked the heels off of her feet, one by one, and then took Nathaniel's hand again, running down the opposite hall. "I am so sorry," she said, looking down at his shoulder. "I didn't--I didn't think." Something ahead of them made a scream that sounded like nails on a chalkboard, and Lily skidded to a halt just in time to look up at what appeared to be a gnarled oak tree in a dress. It swiped at her once with a heavy branch, coming away with a swatch of red feathers and leaving her bruises in return. "Oh come on, there were only two directions to go!" Nathaniel Parrish - 5 / 25 - whoops
He ran alongside Lily, but the leg that Corr had kicked was starting to throb again. Inwardly he cursed the damn double, Nathaniel pushing past the angry irritation and following his friend, glancing from side to side as they did just in case anything else decided to leap out at them.
"It's not you," Nathaniel said, "Don't worry, it's not - "
He almost ran into her as she skidded to a stop, his hand clutching hers, and his other bracing against her shoulder. The tree loomed menacingly in front of them, and he reared back as it swung, catching his leg and sending him staggering.
"Ow - "
He stumbled back, gasping in pain, Nathaniel crashing into the hallway wall.
"This is - not going well," he grunted, pushing himself back up. "Maybe we need to go back the way we came."

Lily Babineaux: 5/25 - why can't I hold all these monsters WAYS OUT YEAH "Yeah," she wheezed, ducking under another branch. "Back sounds good." She whirled on a dime and returned to the general foyer, trying to remember which had been the hall and which had been the centipede? Had that painting been there before? It felt like she was in a different wing of the house entirely. "Uhhhhh....this way," she said finally, making a turn towards the right. She saw figures in the distance at an open door and made a run for it, tugging at Nathaniel behind her. "We're almost there--" she began, when Murphy's law appeared in the shape of a scaly tendril that looped around her waist. It slammed her against the hallway walls with a sickening crack, but in a blur she shifted, skittering through the creature's noodly arms with a noted limp. She shifted back on the other side of the creature, cradling a tender part on her dress where her dress was beginning to tear. "Nate, just--jump for it, you can do it!" she called out between the scaly vines. kuropxeco 3 - You've found a way out, but it's blocked by an otherbeing. Nathaniel Parrish - 0 / 25 - oops x2
It was starting to feel harder and harder to make his feet move properly, Nathaniel clutching to Lily's hand like a lifeline. Maybe that tree had hit him harder than he'd thought; or maybe that stupid Corruption had been a bigger problem.
Either way, he was starting to feel less and less capable, less and less strong - not that he'd ever been strong in the first place.
He had a split second to stare as Lily was tossed against the wall - another second to watch as she transformed into some sort of creature - and then another second to realize that the scaly tendril had seized him around the waist as well. Nathaniel was dragged back with a shout, and he felt more than he heard the smack as he thudded against the wall. Blackness and pain exploded in his line of vision and he dropped to the floor, gasping and trying very, very hard not to retch.
Lily was right there - he could see her just up ahead, and Nathaniel pushed himself up, staggering and stumbling away from the creature. He dodged another vine, an arm wrapped around his throbbing stomach, and half collided with her on the other side as he jumped.
"Holy s**t," he gasped out, not even bothering to maintain his usual respectable self. "Let's get out of here."

Lily Babineaux: 5/25 - Home free bby In all the panic, Lily nevertheless found herself oddly entertained by the fact that Nathaniel was cursing, and she expressed it with a grin that was both coy and a little nervous. "Whoa, boss, you need to calm the ******** down," she replied, grabbing for his wrist and making one final break for it. Even as her side throbbed and burned and her legs felt limp, she didn't stop until her other hand was at the door, tearing it open with one last exhausted slam-- --and the gallery, the hall, the entirety of it just melted away. Lily stumbled onto a sidewalk outside of Rider-Waite, staring blankly at the black Morticia dress she'd originally worn to the ball. With tired eyes, she looked to Nathaniel, the ground, her hand in his, and as she slowly sank to her knees she let out a cough of a laugh that slowly grew into a frantic peal of giggles, indistinguishable from sobs. "And s**t like that is why I dropped out of summer semester," she managed between hiccups, rubbing her eyes.

Nathaniel Parrish - 0 / 25 - goodbye world
He managed to flash Lily a grin, however tired it was, but Nathaniel didn't have the strength to say anything; and besides, she had a grip on his wrist anyway, and was running forward, dragging him along. He stumbled in her wake, trying to keep up, even though everything was aching and really, sleep sounded great right about now -
- and then they were gone.
Well, the ball was gone. They were still there, aching and gasping and in pain, but back in the clothes they'd worn before and back to where they'd started. The music, the blood, the masks - everything was like it had never been before.
Nathaniel found he no longer had the strength to stand. He dropped to his knees beside Lily and managed a laugh, shaking his head.
"Good thing you have a good tutor," he mumbled, and then, with a sweep of pain and exhaustion, and the thought that if he could just close his eyes for one second, it would be good - Nathaniel slipped into blackness and fell sideways, completely knocked out.
