 Xelva was a happy little freshling that day. Admittedly she was a happy little freshling almost every day but that day she was extra happy. Her mum Trixie was accompanying her to a special nixie play-park. On top of the usual playground equipment (jungle gyms, swinging bars, swings, and the like), there were also pools for the aquatic Nightmares. Some were shallow and were meant for the freshlings to splash around in while others were deep enough for the older Nightmares to sit down in and have a lovely soak. So, yes, Xelva was super happy and excited to be going there to play.

Kapit did not like the orphanage. It wasn't that he was being mistreated or anything, but it was just that none of the other kids were any fun. Oh he tried making friends, he tried to learn everything he could about his fellow Daydreams and the occasional Nightmare. But eventually Kap lost interest and drifted to someone else. Never mind that he lost interest because it was blatantly apparent to anyone who wasn't Kap that his friend was avoiding them like the plague. And this made Kap very unhappy. So much so that his caretaker noticed the naiad's surly demeanor and offered to take him to a special play-park.

Xelva was so giddy and happy to be there, she almost just ran straight for the pools until Trixie pulled her back.
"We should get changed first," Trixie said.
The little hybrid looked down at her sweater and skirt and giggled. "Oops," and instead of heading for the locker room, she promptly removed her clothes to reveal the pink bathing suit underneath. "Ready!" she declared proudly, her hands on her hips as she looked up at her mother.
Trixie still led her to the locker rooms, "Very good, Xelva, but I have to get ready too."
And Xelva softly whimpered as her fun was delayed for several more minutes.

Kapit was waiting for his caretaker to finish changing (the little Naiad had already finished changing in his swimsuit). In the meantime, he leaned against the tiled walls while he studied his surroundings. There were so many Nightmares and Daydreams here, Kap didn't know who to focus on. He was feeling a little overwhelmed but in the good way.
Finned ears perked when he heard a soft whimper and pink eyes turned towards the sound. He saw a little hybrid freshling being led into the changing room by their (in Kap's assumption) care taker. He angled his head so he could get a better look but the pair already went inside.

Xelva bounced her on her heels while she waited impatiently for her mother to finish changing. Once she was allowed to go out, she practically ran off. Her mother's concerned cry of "B-be careful, Xelva," had the little hybrid pausing to look over her shoulder.
"I'll be okay, mama!" she said brightly.
"Stay where I can see you!"
"I will~" Xelva said, waving in excitement before toddling off to play with the other freshlings there. Her pink nixie tail wagged behind her, the appendage acting much more like her Grimm heritage. She gravitated to where some of the other freshlings were splashing about in the ankle-deep water.

Kap was content to watch the other freshlings play. He didn't mind just sitting on his own, soaking in the water while surrounded by more energetic and hyper freshlings. It's not like he was going to be able to form any real sort of connection, especially when he didn't know if he would ever see them again after today.
His care taker asked if he was alright and why wasn't he playing with the other freshlings. Kap just shrugged, unsure of how to explain why he didn't feel like playing when there was a squeal of delight and water rained down on both the naiad and his care taker.

Xelva was having a blast, getting splashed and splashing the other freshlings in return. It may not have been the beach (nothing beats the beach) but it was a really good second best. And at least it was nearer to their home. Maybe she could come here again with her sibling and other mom!
She raised her hands to shield herself from a splash attack and ran off giggling. "Can't catch me!" she squealed, jumping and sloshing in the water like there was no tomorrow. Of course, when you were playing and trying to get your playmates as wet as you can, there are bound to be some casualties.
"Oops!" the little hybrid realized she'd accidentally splashed people that weren't playing the game.

Kapit's care taker wasn't bothered in the least and even laughed. The naiad freshling on the other hand was a little more reserved. He was staring at the hybrid freshling, critically studying her even as the other freshling began to profusely apologize. He heard his care taker say that it was alright, but if the little hybrid didn't mind could Kapit join her in her game.
And Kap just stared up at his care taker with a face that screamed You traitor! How dare you! He tried to pull away but the next thing he knew, he was being led to a gaggle of other freshlings.

Xelva was a lot stronger than she looked. She may give the appearance of someone cute and squishy (and she would be the first to declare she is quite cute and quite squishy in some places) but she also had boundless energy and channeled that through her limbs.
"Hi, everyone! I gots a new playmate who wants to join! This is-" she paused and realized she didn't know anyone's name. But the little hybrid shrugged at this revelation and just went ahead and introduced herself to the others. "Err, I'm Xelva!" The group took turns giving their names in return and when it finally came to the pink-eyed naiad, they all waited expectantly.

Kapit listened and observed because that was what he did, though he kept a polite smile on his face all the while. Of course he was mentally glaring daggers at his care taker. He did, however, pay special attention to the hybrid that dragged him here against his will. She was cheerful and bubbly and seemed so so happy to be there.
The naiad found the hybrid's happiness contagious and that he rather liked it. So the polite smile eventually grew to a genuine one, and didn't hesitate when all eyes were on him to give his name. "I'm Kapit."
And in his head, he added And I'm going to be Xelva's best friend.
