The nights had grown chilly as fall began to settle over the city and Stellerite felt the effects of it as a result of her shorts and short-sleeves. Winter was going to suck, especially with her short heels, and she hoped that they wouldn't expect her to go tromping through the snow in this.

Her heels clacked against the pavement as she walked through the streets, arms wrapped around her with her hands rubbing her goosebumped arms. A shiver crawled down her spine and her steps faltered, blue eyes sweeping across the dimly lit streets.

So far, the night had been quiet despite Stella having only been out for about an hour. The blonde woman was bored and she regretted not walking up Epi to come out with her. Her general, Alkaid, was busy doing Metallia-knows-what deep in the bowels of the Rift or on her homeworld and as a result, the recently recruited lieutenant was on her own.

She really, really wanted someone to cross her path to play with.

Adria had powered out, half out of habit and half out of desperation to give some meaning to the existence of his Senshi side. For the past few months it felt like every time he tried to power up he was just trying to drag himself out of the mud. It was a slow, tedious process that yielded very little positive results.

He was trying to stay focused but it seemed that the longer he was out, the easier it was to forget what he was thinking about. It was easy to forget that he could sense the energy signatures of Knights, Senshi--and the Negaverse.

Keeping his thoughts unclouded probably would have helped him avoid the Negaverse Agents he was trying to avoid; instead, he wound up wandering closer to Stellerite and it wasn't until he saw a burst of color that his radar was going off. He stopped midstep and considered turning around but he was pretty sure he'd locked eyes with her.

Running suddenly didn't seem very smart, so instead he just slowed his step down and continued to approach warily. "Hello," he said slowly, unsure how you were supposed to greet one of them. Especially if you didn't want trouble.

It was Adria's lucky night, because he found Stellerite who much preferred talking to fighting. She didn't like to get her hands dirty and Epi had been insistent at staying home instead of going out with her, which meant that she would avoid a physical altercation if she could.

"Hello?" She echoed back, heels clicking against the pavement as she walked along side the buildings that lined the streets. Blue eyes took in everything that made up the senshi and she tilted her head ever so slightly.

Carefully, with slow and almost hesitant movement, Stella stepped away from the shops, towards the street and him. She looked the picture of meek, drawn slightly into herself with her eyes wide and her lips pressed together and one drawn between her teeth that she worried down on.

"I don't want any trouble," she said softly, though her voice carried across the space between them. "I saw what you guys did." She pretended to shiver.

Adria looked at her, blinked, and then immediately held up his hands. “No, no, I don’t want trouble either,” he insisted quickly. His brows were knit with worry and it was evident that he couldn’t tell the difference between a practiced fear or the real thing.

“I’m sorry,” he added. “For...whatever you saw.”

He didn’t know, for sure, but he could assume. The White Moon probably got into a lot of trouble--and if what he’d seen the night of the Invasion was any indication, most of them seemed happy to do it.

He shuffled on his feet and didn’t seem to have any clear idea what to say exactly, so he offered a softer, more sincere, “I am sorry. But I’m not here to fight or anything. In fact--I’d rather not, if that’s okay with you? I mean. I’d much prefer talking. I think that’s a much better way to solve problems, right?”

Adria hesitated for a moment, thinking that it would have been a smarter idea to give her a moment to respond, but he wound up extending an open hand to shake and introducing quickly, “My name is Adria. It’s nice to meet you.”

While Stellerite's demeanor was a docile one, her eyes were still sharp and curious. She inched closer, heels clicking on the pavement as she wrung her hands together. The woman was quietly observing Adria and the way he moved, how he chose to respond.

He sounded remorseful.

Something curled in her belly, pleasure perhaps, because that meant she could use him. "You left so many dead." Her accusation was soft, frown deepening as she swallowed.

Blue eyes darted to the offered hand and her head tilted slightly, like she was warring with herself if it would be worth it to accept. Inhaling deeply she stepped closer again, offered a perfectly manicured hand in return. She kept the gesture short, pulling her hand back almost immediately like he'd burned her. "Stellerite. Stella?" She offered in return, lip caught between teeth to be worried upon.

"Some people can't be talked to," she exhaled.

Adria’s lips pursed, and though he didn’t actively aid in the murder, he didn’t deny it.

He wanted to offer pleasantries that would bring her some reassurance, but the words never made it to his lips. He simply nodded after the introduction. He was watching her carefully, reading her body language but totally oblivious to any of her deliberate moves.

“I think...Everyone can be talked to. If you know what to say. Or, at least, that’s what I want to believe. Some people are easier to talk to--and some people just don’t know how to talk. But I think that if we could all meet on some middle ground, there has to be something, right? Like--you and me, we’re supposed to fight, but I don’t know why. You didn’t do anything to me, and I don’t think I did anything to you. So we’re fighting for someone else, and maybe it’s just them who are too stubborn to sit down and talk things over?”

She listened, worrying down on her bottom lip as she looked at him with wide doe eyes.

She shook her head at him, though it was unclear why at first. Carefully wetting her lips, Stellerite lowered her hands, picked at the hem of her high-waisted shorts. "Do you even know how many bodies we were forced to bury because of you." The you didn't mean him specifically, but the White Moon and anyone who'd participated in the invasion.

"Soldiers don't question orders," she added, responding to his talk about why they were fighting in the first place. "It's human nature to wage wars," she commented thoughtfully, head tilting as she considered her own words. "History repeats. War after war after war. Why do you don the mantle if you wish to stray from the fight?"

"No," Adria answered honestly, when he considered her first question. He didn't know, and he didn't want to know. He didn't want to think about what 'they' had done.

It was hard not to count himself in their group, and he tried to rationalize that he hadn't done it, so he wasn't as guilty as they were. But could he have stopped them, if he'd tried? Would it have mattered?

Probably not.

But he was still beating himself up about it. The less he knew about the casualties, the better he would sleep.

The truth was, he was buying time as he thought over her second answer. Even with a few extra seconds of thought, he wound up shrugging. "I power up...because, even if I don't understand everything yet, I'm supposed to make a difference. I'm supposed to do something, somehow. And just because I don't want to fight doesn't mean I don't want to help. I'd like to not fight, but if I have to..."

He shrugged. "...If I have to, I will."

He didn't admit that he wasn't very good at fighting, or that honestly the thought of getting the snot beat out of him scared him, but he kept telling himself that the only way to overcome a fear was to face it--and he was trying.

"Hundreds." Stellerite made it a point to emphasis the number gravely. She wanted him to feel guilty, to feel the impact of his actions by standing by while the White Moon attacked if he hadn't done any of the damage himself. "The dead don't bury themselves." She shook her head, made her body tremble as if she were reliving the memory.

Stella hadn't buried anyone, but that didn't matter. All that mattered was that he thought she had.

"Some of them didn't have enough left to be recognized and their families will never have closure and it's all your fault." His, the white moon's. It didn't matter.

She quieted as he spoke, as he tried to assert some sort of faulty reasoning about why he powered up and why he fought. "What difference will you make? How many more will end up wounded or dead because of you? What's the joining the ranks of a scattered army if you would rather not fight?"

Adria pursed his lips and looked at the ground. Guilt flashed through his eyes and even if there had been no blood on his hands he felt the weight all the same. He couldn't have stopped them, even if he'd tried. He knew that. Even if he'd stayed back, people would have died.

In the grand scheme of things, his presence was meaningless. He didn't even have enough friends in this war that talking them out of it would have meant anything.

Adria remained quiet as Stellerite's words reached his heart. He trusted her words completely and seemed to have no reason to believe that she was misleading him.

"...You make it sound like you'd rather I fought," he said after a moment. Dropping out of the war wasn't an option. "Maybe I don't have to be involved in their scattered army. Maybe I can just take care of myself and do what I feel is right. It doesn't matter if it's fighting or not--there are still things I can do. The Negaverse had all those starseeds," he said suddenly. "All of those used to be people, right? I don't really believe in an eye for an eye--but what about all those families? Those people had to die for the Negaverse to have them. Did their deaths weigh heavily on you? Did you bury them, too?"

He wasn't quite argumentative; he didn't seem like he was trying to pick a fight, per se--but the thought had consumed him and seemed to be nagging loudly in the back of his head. He could feel bad for the deaths the White Moon had caused--but did she feel bad for the deaths the Negaverse had caused?

Beneath her carefully constructed mask, Stella was gleeful that Adria was falling for her words and that his guilt was obvious. She inched closer, wringing her hands as a breath shuddered out of her slowly. "If you were fighting, then you felt like you had a reason to. To stand aside and just watch as carnage unfolds in front of you..."

She trailed off, glanced away.

"Wouldn't taking care of yourself mean that you strayed from the war? Pacifists don't have place in something like this. Something that's been building since creation." She didn't know how truthful her words were, but they were playing with cosmic forces and magic that people didn't understand. Who's to say that this hadn't been going since the birth of the galaxy?

It sounded pretty, would reach his heart she was sure.

Her composure slipped as he brought up the starseeds and she had flashed of the outrage at their loss. "They might have been, but they were being repurposed." For what she didn't know, but she would come up with a pretty lie if she needed to. "Of course we buried them but not all of their deaths were by our hand." Another pretty lie.

"I feel the weight of loss as surely as you do," she said, tongue pressed against her cheek in thought. "Red stains all of our ledgers one way or another."

Adria’s brows knit and he shrugged; it was clear he was thinking but there was some resolve, hidden behind all his insecurities.

“I suppose,” Adria said slowly, but it was obvious that he wasn’t quite certain he believed her words. “Have you ever killed anyone?” he asked suddenly. His eyes lifted to meet hers and though he still seemed like he was letting the weight of her words wash over him, he was searching for him.

Certainly, he blamed himself for things that were out of his control. He had never killed anyone. Well--he had, in writing, but that was different. They weren’t real. The damage was fictional.

The Negaverse was a very real enemy--and even the Senshi weren’t perfect, but he had been taught that the Negaverse couldn’t function without hurting others and taking their resources to benefit their own goal.

Killing, he supposed, was something the Negaverse was just supposed to do.

Stellerite was watching his face, inwardly scowling when she realized that she'd been too flowery, too grand in her words that she was losing him, but she kept a carefully constructed demeanor that she displayed for him.

She let her eyes widen at the question, a quiet gasp leaving pale pink lips while she covered them with a white gloved hand. At the corner of her eyes, tears seemed to well. "No," she said quietly, looking troubled when she looked away.

Stellerite seemed to be looking at her hands, like she might imagine how they'd look if they were soaked in blood. "I haven't- I might have to but - " she shook her head, looked at Adria with a slightly more unreadable expression.

"I'm not here to fight, I was - they brought me for education. Empathy. A better way? I'm not sure."

Adria watched her for a moment longer and then nodded. "Then," he said after a moment. "We can't be so different? Your allies have killed. Mine have. But you aren't here to fight, same as me. A cat brought me, so I don't know...exactly why, but. Maybe it's not so different."

He shrugged and scratched at his chin, still thinking but not so distracted or overwhelmed.

"I don't know. To be honest, I think I'm too new to know what my purpose is. But I'm not going to give up yet. I think I can make a difference, maybe even without violence. .Maybe you can too."

"If you don't believe in the cause, or don't have a cause then we can't be that similar." Stella countered almost immediately. She had been well-equipped when she was brought into Metallia's army, with her general having spent days, weeks, maybe even months assessing her worthiness. She was not a lost lamb like this senshi.

"It sounds like yours are fools if they leave someone so green so uninformed. Why would you want to march forward blindly when war lurks around every corner?" That was something she couldn't understand.

From what she'd seen, there was no organization among order and no purpose except reckless abandoned.

"It sounds like the cat brought you to a death sentence."
