History: Ashleigh is the oldest of three children born to the Magnolias in Littleroot Town. As the eldest, she grew up under the instructions to set a good example for Jackson and Katherine. Her courage, confidence, and determination showed up at a young age, and she was a natural leader for her siblings. She was often the one deciding what game they'd play as children, and though there was tension from time to time within the family, Ashleigh grew close to her little brother and sister. She started reading at a young age, and her parents knew that if they needed her to be quiet, they could simply hand her a book. She loved learning, and her parents cultured her passion, and she started off school ahead of the curve. Once she entered elementary school, Ashleigh lead the class and was often told she was the brightest of her age the teachers had seen. She lead the class naturally as well, and the teachers always remarked on how talented she was in the classroom and how helpful she was to other students. She loved tutoring, and learning and retaining information came naturally to her.
When the majority of her classmates started their Pokémon journey (some as early as ten, others peeling off later in their early to mid teens), Ashleigh selected the academic route. She loved learning, and while she wanted to start her Pokémon journey eventually, she felt most comfortable in the classroom. She stuck with learning, much to her parents' relief. While they supported her in her dreams, they enjoyed having her safe in school than exploring with Pokémon on her own. When she finished her core education, Ashleigh immediately departed for a university in the Hoenn region. While there, she studied Pokémon Biology and took an interest in Pokémon Genetics. She studied under some of the top professors there, and many encouraged her to take the research route and study under one of the regional professors. Ashleigh was so pleased when she learned she could spend a lifetime learning new things about Pokémon and studying them in the field, and it was then and there that she decided she would one day become Professor Magnolia.
Immediately after her undergraduate graduation, Ashleigh departed for the Johto Region to study under Professor Elm, who was known for his research in Pokémon breeding. While his focus typically has been in baby Pokémon, Ashleigh believed a solid foundation in baby Pokémon and in eggs would lead to greater success when she owned her own laboratory. After three years, Professor Elm encouraged her to study out in the field. "While a solid foundation can be found in books and under theoretical circumstances," he told her, "it is also important to understand how Pokémon act in their own habitats." Ashleigh realized that Professor Elm was encouraging her to start her own Pokémon journey. She decided to turn her journey into her thesis, though she isn't sure exactly how she wants to go about it. She set out on her own journey with a few items, a couple of Pokémon gifted to her from Professor Elm, and her knowledge, ready to prove herself to the world.
