Sailor Caia should have had something better to do than wander around the park, but it seemed like he had gotten into a habit and didn’t know how to break it.
At least he’d managed to power up this time.
He was struggling a bit, still not at all certain what sort of impact he could make on things. He’d heard about some war, but he’d not seen anything of a battle yet. It felt like starting a new job without having a boss to report to, or co-workers to help train you. It made him feel a bit silly, walking around in this uniform, shuffling about and kicking rocks.
Looking for monsters that might not exist.
He was distracted, in his own little world, when he felt a strange tingle. At first, he wondered if it had been a cool breeze, and then if it had been his stomach begging for food, or an Earthquake, or something--and then he realized that it was in his head.
Sort of.
It was an energy signature--and strong, in a way he hadn’t felt before.
It immediately attracted him; he didn’t think twice about straying from the path in the park to seek it out, and soon he was weaving between trees and trying to pinpoint where it was coming from.
He just wasn’t very good at sensing it, and twice he wound up wandering in the wrong direction altogether. Eventually, he found his way towards where he thought it should be--but saw nothing. Close to giving up (at least, wondering how long it would be before someone showed up and yelled at him to scram), he cleared his throat and made one last ditch effort to locate the source of the aura by calling, “Hello? Anybody out here?”Nuxaz Let me know if this is okay! I can make any changes if it needs!

Dust covered her gloves.
It was also on parts of her bodice and Denebola sighed irritably as she clapped her hands together. The youma hadn't been difficult to dust but it had quite literally blown up in her face and coated her with a thin layer she was sure she'd feel until she got the chance to shower it off. Since that clearly wouldn't be a while, the woman did her best to brush most of it off.
She was so preoccupied that she almost missed the order signature that tinged her senses.
Her head shot up as it moved around, growing further away and then closer again. Blue and green eyes shifted slowly around the area of the park for the source. Her bottom lip was pulled between teeth as she edged forward slowly, tension running along her spine. It stood to reason that because the aura was so clearly order there wasn't anything to worry about and yet -
Hello? Anybody out there?
Denebola inhaled slowly, adjusted her path to follow where she thought the voice was coming from. "Yeah, hold on!" She called back in return, doing another sweep of vision to see if there was anyone, or thing, lurking in the shadows. Finally, she found the source of both the aura and voice and she offered them a smile. "Hi. Sailor Denebola, you doing okay?"

Caia seemed relieved to hear a voice; it was much easier to track down where the energy signature was coming from when he had a direction to go in. He smiled when he actually saw the Senshi and breathed an audible sigh of relief.
“I’m great! I’m sorry for worrying you! I haven’t really run into many people yet--I’m still just trying to figure things out! Oh, but--it’s nice to meet you,” he paused and tested the name, “Denebola?”
He could remember that.
He extended a hand to her and added, “I’m Caia. I just--I felt you, your...energy? I tried to find you but I kept getting lost. I don’t mean to intrude, if you were busy with something?” His eyes flicked to her dust covered appearance almost apologetically.Nuxaz Sorry for all these tags at once :'D

Denebola found the other senshi to be enthusiastic, eccentric even and she was grateful for it.
"No, it's fine. I'm glad you're okay," she replied, trying to brush off any concerns he might've had. "It can be...tricky when you're first getting the hang of things," she said thinking of how much difficulty she'd had in the early days. "It helps when you've got someone to show you."
She was forever thankful for Taranis and the others that had lent a helping hand.
"Energy signature or aura, it's all the same," she shrugged as she took his hand. "No, you didn't interrupt, I was just dusting a youma. It exploded on me, as you can see," she laughed gesturing to herself. "Have you been around long?"kyuseisha no hikari never apologize for a flood of tags <3

Caia laughed sheepishly and shrugged as he tried to tally up just how long he’d been a senshi for. On the spot, the answer somewhat eluded him so he just confessed, “Not too long. To be honest, I’ve only bumped into a handful of people. And you’ve all been knowledgeable and helpful, so I’m feeling very lucky! Well--mostly. I mean, I haven’t really run into any problems yet so I sort of feel like I’m missing out on a good part of what it is I’m supposed to be doing? But--you know. Working on it.”
He shifted positions a bit, as if it were hard to keep his excitement contained.
“But you--you’re very strong! And obviously capable if you’re dusting youma,” which, he had the pleasure of knowing very little about. “How long have you been around?”

Denebola often wondered what it was like to be a new senshi these days but she was relieved to know that Caia wasn't going in blind, yet. "Mostly order then?" Oh, she hoped that he hadn't dealt with any of the...uglier chaos infected.
She didn't think she had to worry much, not from his disposition.
She blinked at him, before glancing at her still dusty uniform and laughing. "Yeah, I mean. I've been at it for...five years." She'd been a super for around three of those now. It was weird to think about how much time had passed.
"Youma are usually easy, its those agents you gotta watch out for. Especially if they're second-level." Denebola didn't mention how she'd struggled with youma last year because of lack of practice. "I try to go out with a partner, makes things...safer? Easier."

Caia gasped and couldn’t seem to believe five years; he moved one hand to his chest.
“Five?” he repeated incredulously. “That’s amazing! I don’t even remember what I was doing five years ago. Youma seem like they’d be scary than Lieutenants--but probably only because I’m afraid of monsters. Going out with a partner sounds like a really good idea--where did you find yours? I’ve been having a hard time meeting people. Is there some way to get in contact with people, or like, some ‘wanted’ forum where I can make a post to look for a patrol partner?”

Denebola smiled at Caia and his slightly dramatic hand to the chest. It was endearing in that way that only eager new senshi could be.
"Yeah," she said ruefully, thinking about how she should be eternal by now and yet - she wasn't. Maybe she didn't need it or maybe she wasn't ready. She didn't know. "Youma's don't have the ability to rip your soul out of your chest if you're not careful. They try to eat you first and then go for the starseed. Plus, they're not as resilient as agents are."
Denebola shrugged.
"It gets easier? Less scary, or at least I think so." She decided it was best to keep from telling Caia that youma never really died, that when they were dusted they returned to the depths they'd crawled from to recooperate. He didn't need to know that, yet.
"I've gotten lucky, stumbled upon most of them, but sometimes there's large gatherings. It's about finding like minded people?" She paused to contemplate something, then fished for her senshi phone from subspace. "You're welcome to call on me if you ever want a buddy, or get in a tight spot."

"Oh!" Caia nodded and then retrieved his phone as well. "I'd like that a lot. And I mean, of course the offer is open to you too, but," he gave her a look. "Let's be realistic, I'm a step away from useless right now. I'm good for talking, or making a nice, homemade bowl of cereal, but if you're in a pinch I'm a better distraction than anything else. But on the plus side, I run really fast," he promised with a wink.
"...But I don't really know how to fight, at all. I mean, I get the whole fight or flight thing; the last time I was backed into a corner I did an okay job of getting out of it. But the time before that, I was hopeless. I totally got my butt kicked. But I wasn't even a Senshi then, so there's still plenty of room for improvement."
He seemed good natured, although a bit distracted with his phone while he talked. It was something easy to focus on, and every few seconds he glanced up at her. "Do you like it? Being a Senshi, I mean. Is it worth it, to you?"

After an exchange of contact information, as far as registering each other in their respective phones, Denebola returned hers to the pocket it'd been produced from. "I'm always available," she assured him, a sincere smile on her lips. "I doubt you're as useless as you claim. Things are - they're different than when I first was awoken. The networks were better. Smoother."
But there'd also been less senshi and more teams with more people willing to bend to some form of leadership.
Now everyone was clamoring over themselves to speak the loudest, to pretend that they could wield the most authority or demand the most respect when they hadn't earned it. No wonder they hadn't been successful in the invasion. "People don't seem to want to work together as much any more, we're a little scattered but some of us - we try. I try, anyway." She laughed a little, using a hand to push her bangs out of her eyes.
"I'm not exactly a fighter, but I'm quick on my feet. We can practice some time? Do a sparring sort of thing." She didn't think that she was a particularly good fighter, but she also didn't think that you made it five years without knowing how to at least defend yourself. "I can take you to Denebola, if you want, we won't be disturbed there. It'll be safer." For now, or at least for him. Denebola never knew when the memories would hit or what they'd be like.
"I think so. I get to protect my friends. Sometimes, it's really hard. I spent months running away from it but in the end. It's part of me. It always has been and, I don't know. Would you deny who you are when it's always pressing against you?"

Caia nodded, grateful for the information but certainly a bit disheartened to hear some of it. He seemed to be absentmindedly nodding--up until he realized that she had asked some sort of question at the end.
His attention seemed to snap back immediately; he tore himself from what daydreams he’d been having while mulling over how sad and unfortunate it was that people couldn’t just get along and work together.
He thought about her last question and was thoughtful for a moment before he shrugged and answered honestly,
“Maybe.” He didn’t expand on the answer, instead focusing on her offer to spar. “I think I’d like to practice fighting, before I need it.”
Caia seemed like he was going to continue with that line of thought before his brows suddenly furrowed and he quickly he shook his head. “Wait, what do you mean, ‘Take me to Denebola’? I thought you were Denebola.”

Mismatched eyes studied Caia quietly, watching him ponder some things and think of others. She didn't push her question, having felt like she'd talked enough, and instead waited for whatever type of response he had to give. It was easier that way, for her to know where she could support and guide.
"We can start the two of us and - " she paused, running her tongue along her teeth as she thought of the people who made up the court she and Corvus were building. "I know others who would be happy to work with you."
That was the point of it all wasn't it? To build something where they were standing together as an active and strong front instead of the chaotic mess that meeting after meeting showed.
Caia surprise made Denebola laugh, in a sweet kind of way. "I am but Denebola is my star. My...homeworld. You've got one too," she told him. "It's complicated because you and I, we're very much human but we're something more too."

The idea of help reassured Caia; he might not have known these others, but he felt at ease just knowing there were others. He was trying to piece together the bigger picture in his head, but he hadn’t met enough of any group in this war to know how big he needed to bethinking.
“Homeworld,” he repeated, as if testing the word. “It’s weird to think that Earth isn’t our homeworld, isn’t it? It’s the only home I’ve ever known.”
He’d figured they were ‘something more’, but he hadn’t quite figured out how far that extended. “What are we supposed to do with a homeworld?” He suddenly looked worried. “There aren’t people waiting for me to do things on mine, are there? --Because, I must be long overdue, and I haven’t a clue what they could want from me, or what I should be doing for them. Or, what I should be doing in general.”
He blinked. “With my whole life though, not just Caia. Everything is sort of a day-to-day mess. Whoever thought awakening teenagers as Senshi must be a little loopy.”
He had awakened fairly late into the game, but even at nineteen he didn’t feel like his age was enough to be a true advantage. He’d met people younger than him, who had been doing this for longer, and just couldn't understand how they were doing so well.
He aspired to be as successful and well adjusted.

While Denebola's smile had been soft, strained even, it slipped and faltered when Caia spoke. Immediately she shook her head, reaching for the senshi before she could think twice about her movement. "No - No, don't think like that." She said quickly, pausing to calm the racing of her heart. "Earth is our home. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise or make you feel like it isn't. We're - I was born here, on Earth. Doesn't that mean that I belong here?"
She hated the idea that they were some sort of parasitic outsiders. They were just as much a part of earth as they were of their homeworlds. "Just because we have another place that belongs to us doesn't mean that Earth means nothing to us." It meant everything to her.
Especially when she thought of the ruins that made up Denebola.
"No," she said soft but firmly. "There's no one waiting for you on Caia." She looked far more somber than she had before. "You'll - do you want to know what you'd find?"

"Oh," Caia said quickly, seeming suddenly apologetic. "I'm sorry--I didn't mean to offend or worry you! I...I just meant, it's a strange name, you know? I don't know any home but Earth. I know that I grew up here. I just...thought it was an odd choice. Homeworld, for a place...you don't know. I'm sorry!" he said again, seeming genuine about it.
The change in her demeanor left him feeling wary--he wanted to know but was left feeling uneasy. He swallowed the lump that had suddenly appeared in his throat. "What...will I find, if I go there?"
