Basic Statistics
Real Name: Lei Wei Ko. In America, people have taken to calling him 'Frank', and he accepts the name.
Alias: The Black Kato
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Nationality: Identifies as American.
Race/Species: He's human, more specifically, Chinese.
Current status (marital/dating): Single, not really focused on dating right now.
Police/Criminal/Legal record: Spotless.
Occupation: Works at a local downtown grocery market, a bagger, officially keeps the place from falling apart.
Title/Rank: 'Bagger', unofficial King of Cho's Market.
Hobbies/Pastimes: Besides martial arts, he's a fan of studying various literature, origami and philosophies. Also plays a pretty good flute.
Talents/Skills/Powers: Though without powers, Frank keeps a startling physique, his body being pure muscle. He's as agile and well-balanced as any acrobat, is strong enough to carry up to 250 pounds on his shoulders(for short periods of time), and in his alter ego of Black Kato, is well known to have some of the hardest hitting attacks.
Frank has studied many of the world's martial arts in detail, Karate, Judo, Wing Chun, Shaolin Style, Tae Kwon Do, and even American Boxing, and though he doesn't have any ranks or degrees in them, he can cause great damage to quite a few 'black belts' of the craft(though to be fair, seldom does your average 'Black Belt' deserve that belt...). He's also proficient in a few weapon styles.
Frank can speak a multitude of languages, Cantonese, Mandarin, English, even some Spanish and Korean(the last two, not as well.), and actually has a lovely singing voice, though he doesn't tell anyone this.
Physical Characteristics
Height: 5'10
Weight: 150 pounds.
Hair: Black
Eyes: Black
Tattoos/Scars: Though he doesn't have any ink, Frank has quite a number of various scars along his body, from improving his combat skills, to actually being out on the street, fighting.
Distinguishing features: His face is pretty distinctive, the heroic and iconic sort that you could instantly recognized, if it wasn't masked...
Costume: A version of a black chauffeur's suit, modified so there were no loose hanging threads or sleeves, and made to make no noise when he moves, allowing him to effectively hide when he needs to, though he isn't as good as Batman, to stealthing around. Complete with black driving gloves, heavy black boots. He completes it with a chauffeur's hat and a black mask that leaves his lower face uncovered.
How does s/he dress or what do they typically wear: When not out at night, Frank is very simple, white t-shirt and black pants, though maybe a jacket or something, if it's cold.
Other accessories: Lock-picking toolkit, stored in his left boot.
Weapons: Tucked in his pants are black nun-chucks, just in case. They are made from heavy iron, And really, REALLY hurt.
Health: Healthy as a damn horse. His body is a temple, now that he's off the sauce. Sober, he is a force to be reckoned with. (Drunk, he's a force to keep away from you.)
Physical Flaws: None come to mind.
Physical Qualities: What do you mean by this?
Other Characteristics
Are they generally balanced or clumsy: Balanced.
Mannerisms/Poses/Movement: I guess, typically the strong, silent type, moreso as Frank then as the Black Kato. He doesn't want to draw attention to his awesome abilities, so he doesn't lash out or anything like that, during the day. But at night, he's a lot more bold, and a LOT more geared toward immediate retaliation. He doesn't really 'pose' that much, though his ready to fight stance is usually with his legs somewhat apart, and his left hand up, protecting his guard, with his right hand outward. This will change depending on the circumstance, however. And finally, The Black Kato uses his great speed and stamina to his advantage, usually going no slower then a brisk jog, if not dashing for any reason.
Habits/OCDs/Obsessions: Black Kato has a habit of grinding his jaw when angry or upset, along with flaring his nostrils. Unfortunately, he's also impulsive, and is NOT cautious like the usual nonpowered vigilante. Traps are sort of his weakness.
Unique phrases/words: He's very straightforward when he talks, and as a result, doesn't really have any longstanding quotes, aside from a high-pitched 'WAAAA-TAAAAAAH!' when he goes for a particularly brutal attack.
Psychological/Personality Attributes and Attitudes
Intelligence Level: I wouldn't call him a scientist, but he's pretty clever. He's especially good at reading people.
Character's long-term goals/desires in life: Doesn't really have any.
Character's short-term goals/desires in life: Figure out just who killed his sister, then extract vengeance.
Secret desires: To find his place in life.
How do they see him/herself: Nothing special. Just some two-bit smalltime idiot.
What is the character most proud of: His speed, and his strength.
What does the character like least about themselves: That he's impotent to help his friends and family, outside of fighting.
Patience level: Extremely low. If he sees a chance, he takes it, right there and then.
Most at ease when: Absolutely alone.
Ill at ease when: He feels useless(basically, if he or someone else has a problem, and it can't be solved then and there, or can't be solved with his fists.)
Character/Personality/Mental/Social Strengths: He's kind, selfless, and deceptively cunning in a way most people don't expect. He's also terribly perceptive, noticing patterns and subtle behaviors right away. Finally, he's a hell of a gambler, beating the Yakuza(some who'd set up "enterprises" in China) out of quite a bit of their hard-stolen money, time and time again.
Character/Personality/Mental/Social Flaws: How susceptible he is to alcohol, his vast, fiery impatience. He is also easily insulted, and quite easily provoked into violence, eager to smash down all obstacles.
If they could be described with one of the seven virtues, which would it be: Either diligence, or charity.
If they could be described with one of the seven sins, which would it be: Wrath.
Biggest Vulnerability (non physical): Again, probably his impatience.. He is also easily provoked.
Optimist or Pessimist: Pessimist.
Introvert or extrovert: Mainly an introvert, but he isn't Rainman or anything.
Greatest Fear: That this is all he's good for, and that his sister's killer will never pay for his, her or their crime(s).
Other Fears/Insecurities/Phobias: He has minor claustrophobia. Not at Storm levels, though.
Emotional/psychological/social peculiarities: I really don't know.
Biggest regret: That he wasn't here to prevent his sister's murder.
Other regrets: Not being smarter then he is. He isn't aware that he isn't all THAT dumb, however.
Biggest accomplishment: Hustling the Yakuza out of every single dime, and then whipping all their asses when they tried to "take it back".
Minor accomplishments:
Character's darkest/deepest secret: He loves one of the girls from his village, who happened to be best friends with his sister before she left for America.
Minor Secrets: That he is the Black Kato.
Likes/Dislikes
Likes: Most types of liquors, an opponent with a glass jaw, a highly difficult opponent, absolute quiet.
Dislikes: Most types of western music and/or entertainment, shameless cowards, Speedsters(for some reason, he considers it 'cheating'.), and on that note, he hates corrupt gambling dens or casinos. Hates them with a passion.
Favorite: Favorite what?
Simple Pleasures: some sort of booze coursing through his body, a floozy on his arm, and winning himself some money.
Greater Pleasures: Coming through for someone who's been depending on him.
Where does this character like to hang out: Formerly, in casinos, gambling dens, or anywhere where sin was prevalent. Nowadays, however, especially for his current grieving process, he prefers complete isolation.
Motto/Personal quote: "They have wronged and offended my family. And they will pay with their lives."
Mode of transportation: His feet.
Most prized possession: A book of origami that his sister gave him, that for a long time simply acted as a paperweight. Now, however, whenever he has any private time, he reads it quite intently, and makes sure he has paper to practice with. He also has a hand-carved wooden flute that he kept from childhood. It's a pretty reliable flute.
Emotional Characteristics
Describe character's sense of morals: To him, the greatest evil you can do is to turn your back on those who care for you, and likewise, to intentionally set out to hurt someone else's family. To force a woman into prostitution, or to force someone to act in a way that shames themselves and who they care for, is unacceptable to him. In times before, he willingly closed his eyes to certain evils, and wallowed in various acts of immorality, pleading ignorance. Well, no more, now he forces himself to look at it, and to try and find *some* way to change it.
What do they consider taboo: He would never get at someone through their family. Nor would he just kill a man for no reason.
Spontaneous or structured? Spontaneous.
Instinctual or logical? Instinctual.
How does this character act in public? Nowadays, he acts silent, and plays the foreigner act so he won't draw attention to himself. Black Kato is another story, however...
How does this character act in private? Also quiet, but a lot more expressive. When nobody's around, he lets his walls down.
Has this character dealt with the loss of someone they knew? Yes.
How has it affected them? It's produced an absolute change in him, and has filled him with a resolve he hasn't known before.
How does this character deal with or react to:
Conflict/Danger: He immediately reacts to it, lashing out at it with enough power to (hopefully) knock it out the first time.
Fear: He responds to fear with anger, much the same way as he responds to danger.
Change: Depends on the change, though usually, I imagine a bit slow. He's wary of change. How strange then, that he's trying to change things as Black Kato.
Loss: He buries it down, though it didn't work with his sister.
Pain: He feeds on it, uses it to his advantage. Uses it to keep him alert.
Stress: Speed and violence, I imagine.
Peer pressure: Ha ha, not very well. Back before his sister died, he buckled pretty easily, but now, it isn't the same...
Guilt: Have you ever had a dog? Has it ever pissed on the carpet, despite knowing it wasn't supposed to? He acts very much the same way.
Being wrong: Being so stubborn and bullheaded, it takes a lot for Frank to admit he's wrong, but eventually, he'll understand, and apologize for his actions.
Being criticized: He takes it very personally.
Being insulted (superficially: name calling, etc): Frank is quick to take offense, and quick to smash his fist into the face of someone badmouthing him, a lot harder then he probably needed to.
Being loved: He isn't quite sure. I imagine he'd be very awkward in that situation.
Being hated: Depends on who hates him.
How does this character express:
Dislike (of a person, thing, or idea): He's quite blunt in expressing this.
Approval (of a person, thing, or idea): He's also quite blunt in expressing this.
How does this character generally express themselves? Through his actions. It's how he genuinely feels helpful, and so helps whenever he can.
Love: It's amazing how a smart, capable young man with incredible talents and gifts, can be such a buffoon when it comes to such a simple matter as love. He is the sheer embodiment of 'foot-in-mouth' around Lin Hu, the village girl he loves, and often times doesn't even talk around her, unless he absolutely needs to. It's actually quite comedic.
Friendship/Other relationships: Frank tries to be a trusted friend whenever he can, and though he doesn't let them in close, he does relax a bit around somebody he would consider his 'friend', allowing some of his casual personality to slip out. Especially when drunk.
Destiny/Duty: He takes this very seriously. He values this far beyond his own life.
Their past: He doesn't talk about it, and pushes it back down whenever it threatens to surface back into his mind.
Their future: He is utterly convinced that he doesn't have one, or one worth talking about, anyway.
Their role in society/job/etc: Honestly, he doesn't really care about 'society' beyond those fw people he cares for, although recently he's starting to understand the ramifications of various actions, and seeing firsthand the butterfly effect, how entire neighborhoods are thrown into chaos, because of a few lawless acts. This is a tremendous breakthrough, actually.
Drugs and alcohol: He is a big fan of booze, not so much of any other drug, however.
Killing/Murder: He personally hasn't done it, but he plans to, to whoever killed his sister. But only them.
Education: He never saw it as a big deal for himself, but he's slowly comprehending it's importance, especially for other, younger people.
The foreign/unknown: Doesn't really care, if he hasn't dealt with it personally.
How does the character view life? An attempt to grow comfortable, an grow happy with others that you care for.
How does the character view death? An example of why life is futile.
How does the character view society? A collection of families building one network, who are also just trying to grow comfortable and happy. This is a step up from before, where he honestly could care less about society...
How does the character imagine his/her own death? He pictures that he'll go down fighting...beyond that, he can't picture it. He can't picture growing old.
What does the character want out of life? Justice, and an explanation for why his loved ones never got any.
What does this character consider "success" to be? To him, success is when you win.
What would the character like to change in his/her life? He would bring back everybody he ever lost, and make sure he is in a position to help them from now on.
What motivates this character? Right now, revenge.
What discourages this character? His lack of tracking or detective abilities.
What makes this character happy? Right now, nothing.
What makes this character sad? Death.
What makes this character angry? That nobody else is doing anything about that death.
What humiliates this character? Seeing Chinese immigrants(and others) being treated the way they are, sometimes by other Chinese.
What most describes this character's personality? Loyalty, obligation, and revenge, all in the name of family and love.
Psychoanalysis (Describe why they act the way they do): He sees no other alternative. He honestly believes this is the only way he can set things right.
Does it stem from childhood or an event, or chemical? Childhood, yes, and the event of his sister's murder.
Relationships with others (non-married)
Relationship Skills: Almost non-existent.
Loves (non sexual): Nobody.
Crushes: Lin Hu
Marital status: Single.
Pets: None.
Describe their sense of trust: It was only shared by a select group of people, and those people are fewer and fewer now, a string of deaths, over time reducing it to Lin Hu, and maybe a number of old childhood friends.
What type of individuals does s/he like or associate with? Before, gamblers, drunks, and strangely enough, a small group of Yakuza who were in China were inexplicably friendly with the Chinese who populated their gambling houses.
Do they know anyone who's died, and if so who and how were they affected? Frank knows a number of people who have died, his sister, their parents, and one of his early teachers, an elderly Japanese man, who was the first 'Kato', sidekick to the Green Hornet. It's left Frank very bitter, and very jaded.
Family (they were raised with)
Birthparent(s): Yeah, I'm sure they have names, but ol' Heimdal ain't so great with the Chinese names, unfortunately...
Are they still alive? No.
Caretaker(s) Kato, the one from the '60s
Are they still alive? No, old age got him.
Siblings (if any): He had a sister(also not sure what to name her.)
Are they still alive, if not who died and when? She was murdered a month ago, injected with drugs to O.D and found in a dumpster. The cops ruled it a suicide, even though Frank knows better.
How did s/he get along with the family as a whole? He loved them, although they had little patience for his criminal, slacker ways.
How did s/he get along with the siblings, if any? Same as the family. He would always send her money for college that he won through gambling, and she would always complain that it was "dirty", but Frank knew she needed it.
Describe their family life/dynamic, growing up: Pretty strained, they weren't the richest family, and they disagreed with Frank's lifestyle, although they were in fact grateful for his helping them, when he could.
Describe their family life/dynamic now: They don't really tell him what to do anymore. Score, right?? biggrin
Family (that they have created, if at all)
Partner(s): None.
Mistress(es)/Secret Lover(s)/ Lover(s) outside of marriage: None.
Any illegitimate children with them, and if so who? No.
Children and their ages: No.
How does (each) son/daughter treat of this character? Nothing.
How does this character treat (each) son/daughter? Nothing.
Spiritual Characteristics
Religion: Pretty much an atheist.
Superstitions: He always says 'please' while rolling dice/whatever game the gambling entails.
Background Story: I hate writing the background story, so freaking much. And especially since I'm not really knowledgeable in Chinese culture, instead of absolutely failing at some explanation somewhere, you're getting cliffnotes! Yaaaaay, cliffnotes!
Frank born eldest son. Sister born two years later(See, already there I failed, what with their one-child policy and all. Oh well, time to just keep going.). Frank is a reckless, thug of a child, showing little interest in education, and showing more interest in boozing it up and gambling, and fighting with local street gangs. Little sister, however, excels. Is so smart, in fact, that she can go to college, which she does, in America, while the author desperately prays that any of this makes sense to the reader.
God, I don't even know. I don't know how the parents died. Maybe illness, or maybe the commies killed them, or something like that. ANYWAY, Frank is basically a failure and happy in his failure, until he gets the call. Sister's dead, drug overdose, found naked in a dumpster, ruled as a suicide. Frank's world collapses, and decides that his sister needs more justice then that. Travels over, to America, in fact, over to Metropolis(Via rickety boat). There he works as a grocery bagger by day, and by night, becomes...the Black Kato!
And here I should mention, that he had struck up a kinship with an elderly Japanese man, who was hiding out in China. Turns out, the old man was Kato, the sidekick to the legendary vigilante, the Green Hornet. When the old man died, Frank was the one who buried him, and made sure nobody found out who he was. So now, as 'The Black Kato', he is paying homage to the man, even if he is wearing his costume for a less-than noble reason...
That backstory sucked, but do you get the gist of what I am trying to say?
Additional Notes on This Character: Can you guess who I'm paying homage to? biggrin
(((( I don't get what this means. ))))
