After almost a century of people refusing to acknowledge the existence of global warming, its effects started to speed up, and it could no longer be denied. Despite this, the corporations that controlled the countries around the world refused to change their practices. However, it was not long before catastrophic droughts plagued much of the world, soon followed by extreme weather. Finally massive floods covered nearly all the land, as the the ice caps melted to nothing. Countries and their governments collapsed across the planet, and helpless land animals faced mass extinction. Many feared it would be the end of all life.
Although the world was faced with what appeared to be an apocalypse, they had the advantage of technology. Soon the extreme weather began to settle down, and floating cities sprang up where land had once been. The people that survived quickly adapted to this new world, and even thrived. Although people's diets now consisted of mainly marine based foods, nearly all ships had their own gardens to grow produce. The most popular alcoholic beverage in this new world is made from seaweed and called Nökkenvann, or nok for short.
Even before the new floating cities and the governments that accompanied them had begun to form, people took to ships and a grand new era of piracy began. Leaders of these new countries struggle to protect their citizens from the far stronger and much more well organized pirates that sail the endless sea. The pirates are currently lead by the ruthless Pirate Queen Hildr. The only force that can pose a real threat to the pirates is the goddess of the sea, Tiamat. In an attempt to undermine Tiamat, Queen Hildr was able to seize one of the goddess' treasure chests. In retaliation, Tiamat created a storm and rained her fury on the ship, causing such damage that Queen Hildr had to head to a large floating port city for repairs...

There's a bunch of merfolk items in the gold shops (DC specifically) that just came out for both Paws and Humans, they'd be a great set of prizes for participants, and we definitely have the gold to spare for multiples of them.

Do you mean this stuff? Also pirate stuff, which is great.
These also just came out in a recent RIG, although they are some sort of starry mermaid, they are kind of pretty.

Yes! That stuff. :3c
The starry mermaid things and the gold shop items should cover us for merfolk stuff. I'll get two of each of the starry ones for now.
So we have a few things with a mermaid-y/pirate theme now, but do you think we should get more apocalypse-y things?

I did a bit of a search on the market for things that might fit that theme. "Apocalypse" did not turn up much, mostly very expensive out of of stock items.

I hope that helps, I'll try to think of other words to search in the meantime.
Edit: You saw this post and the RIG one below it on my prize thread too right?
Thanks for that. How many prizes do you think we should have in total?

Hmmm, I guess it depends how many games people still want to do? We all had a game mostly planned each in my room, and larger contests like drawing the characters, and of course princess/prince/queen/king.
If we are doing this for four days, maybe 2-4 game/contests a day, and at least 3 prizes a game/contest? This is how prizes start getting overwhelming :c

Well I mean basic ones like ball 'royalty' and best dressed (Merfolk/Pirate/Paw) are a good place to start, and if we have runners up for any of those that knocks out some more things too. Giving people a prize for submitting art is a good idea too and would probably knock out a fair few things depending on contributions.
I think one main game per day is best for simplicity's sake, with one character quest for each 'NPC' over the course of the entire ball. So each character with a quest knocks out 3 prizes, and the main games over each day will knock out 12 or more (depending on the game) overall. That seems like it'll be enough activities to deal with the stuff we've got.

That sounds like a good plan, the room will be busier then usual since it is combined, so less need to fill time.
I never had a chance to look into royalty prizes, I'll look into that.

Well we've got Post Apocalyptic Princess at the very least, so that's one out of the way.

I was wondering, should we do something with Kindred for prizes? Earlier this year I donated a lot of my kindred, and I think potions, to the ball mule for I guess a fundraiser that I don't think happened.
I'm still looking up royalty prizes, as looking up queen/king/prince did not bring up anything good. I'm having to work in short bursts when the ibuprofen and decongestant are actually working together.

we still have all of them, maybe more tbh, there are at least 30 kindred eggs in the account.
