Things just had not been going well for Anxo. Earlier in the year when he was still new everything was smooth and fell right into place. He had just become a senshi, it was the end of of the semester so school was just cruising along, and over all there was peace.

How naive he was to think it was to last? Everything began weighing down on him piece by piece, and to top it off, there was the youma mauling. The one night, the very single night he decided he had earned the right to rest, a young couple was mauled to death just a couple of blocks from his home. He had chosen that night to sleep instead of patrol. And it was his fault they were dead. How could he forgive himself for his stupidity and mistakes?

The simple answer he found was to patrol non-stop at night. School during the day, working at his parent's craft store in the evening, patrol until sunrise, sleep for two or three hours, then start all over. He praised the gods for the weekends where he would get a few more hours of sleep, but even then he could feel the worry and anxiety creep up his neck and he found himself pacing around until nightfall when he could patrol once more.

He was struggling... And gods knew he was exhausted...

But that didn't matter! Not right now! His problems, his feelings were pushed to the side, as they oft were, in favor of focusing on his dear friend Arian.

After the date they had in February Anxo was smitten. Any day that Arian was willing to talk to him, willing to see him made his whole week so much more bright and meaningful. Though neither of them seemed to be in the proper place to think of moving further than the friendship they shared, Anxo could not push the young man from his mind. More than anything he wanted to be there for his friend and to provide some sort of comfort to the young man. And that was why he was heading towards Arian's house unannounced.

Just as on their first date, the young man had baked some goodies and wrapped them lovingly in a small basket to bring to his friend's apartment. From what he understood, family life was very complicated for Arian, and was reaching a bit of a climax with his father's new bride... What exactly could he even to to help this?

Smile. Atleast that's all that came to mind. If Arian wanted more, well, Anxo would never say no when he was needed.

It took a bit of time to arrive to the place Arian lived, but all in all he made good time! He knocked on the door in a rapid, cheerful fashion before rocking on his heels until it was answered. Hopefully this surprise would be well received.

Took me long enough to start! We talked about this being slightly backdated, before Arian went on his trip to his father's wedding

As July had shifted to August and the August days shifted closer and closer towards the end of the month, Arian had been forced to acknowledge that he could no longer ignore his impeding trip back to the UK.

It was a trip that he was not particularly looking forward to and one that he hadn't even wanted to make - but he had made a promise to his cousin in exchange for her help in sorting out helping him to keep the apartment after Orah's disappearance and...

And a promise was a promise even if it meant showing up at a wedding that was the last place that he actually wanted to be at.

Arian sighed as he peered at the open case, which he was putting the finishing touches to packing - although 'finishing' touches were perhaps a bit of a misnomer given that he had been putting the finishing touches on packing for a couple of days - and reached out to absent stroke Lola as the calico cat poked her furry little head over the side of the case.

Five minutes he decided as he reached to scoop the small cat up and meander out into the apartment's living room. Because surely he could spare five minutes - and besides the tickets and his passport was over at his cousin's place anyway - and those were probably the most important parts.

Anxo stood on the doorstep a little anxiously as he waiting for his friend to come answer. He shifted his weight from foot to foot, beginning to wonder if he had come over too late. The young man opened his phone, scrolling to his calendar. There were so many dates marked, so many tight schedules to keep while he finished up his last year of school, but the most important ones were highlighted in blue. Birthdays, anniversaries, days where he'd go and revisit a memory that was just too good to let go... And of course, highlighted on today and bright and blue as the sky above him was Arian's name.

It was a simple little entry, 'Wish Arian a Safe Trip'. Perhaps when he made it and stuck it on his calendar, Anxo originally meant to send him a text, or phone him to wish him luck, yet here he stood, waiting, hoping that maybe he was in time.

The whole thing was a little silly, now that Anxo thought about it further, smiling stupidly to himself and rocking onto his heels with his hands in his pockets. The box of treats were still tucked safely in the crook of his arm, still warm and gooey despite the trip over. What a shame it would be if he were too late, and Arian had departed already? Oh, he could feel his heart break now...

Far more likely it were that Arian simply had not heard him knock. He was a bit of a softie anyway, so he chose to knock again, perhaps a bit louder. Along with that, he called out to whoever may have been inside.

"Arian, It's me, Anxo! I brought you a parting gift, and was kinda hoping to hang out for a little bit, if you're up for it!"

litian
Sorry, your post didn't say if he responded to the door knocking or not.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 16, 2016 12:54 pm

Arian hadn't heard the first knock at the door, although being caught up in trying not to miss something that he might turn out to need might have had something to do it..

Or perhaps it was the five or so minutes that he'd spent debating whether to pack any of his jewellery-making supplies...

He had come to the reluctant conclusion that perhaps he should leave the jewellery-making supplies and was in the process of walking over to slip them back in his room when he heard the sound of knocking at the door, a slight frown flitting across his face as he tried to recall if he was supposed to be expecting anyone.

Although he wasn't left to ponder for very long as the knocking was followed by the sound of a familiar voice.

"Sorry, I'll be just a minute" he called as he carefully placed the jewellery-making supplies on his desk, before scooping up Lola from the open suitcase and flipping the top over.

It was with cat still gently cradled in his arms that he walked over to open the door in hand, the just 'a minute' much more close to five to the mentioned one.

"Hi Anxo" that the other's visit was a surprise was reflected in the curious look in his eyes, but the smile on his face was genuine as he said "Sure I don't mind hanging out for a little bit if you don't mind staying here - I could do with a little break from packing and I could put the kettle on or something."

He wasn't sure but Arian thought that he might have a few biscuits or something that he could offer too.

With the patience of a saint, Anxo waited on the doorstep for his friend to come and let him in. And of course one minute blended into more and more, to which the young man didn't mind. He was half expecting the house to be a whirlwind of items when the door opened, but it still seemed neat from what he could see.

When the door swung open, Anxo's eyes lit up immediately and he smiled sweetly at Arian, feeling his heart swell up with happiness at seeing him. It was as if seeing him caused every achy, tired muscle relax. And that smile he recieved in turn was just a beacon of clarity in the fuzziness that was in his mind.

"That would be perfect, if you'd have me! I brought some caramel cookies to go with the kettle, if you'd like!" With pride he held up the basket of warm cooks a little sheepishly, embarrassed when he realized just how fluffy of a basket it was. When he had packed it, Anxo hadn't been thinking about the practicality of it all. He just thought it would be cute and allow him to see that handsome smile once more.

"Ah, hello there, kitten!" He murmured softly, holding out a finger for Lola to sniff and rub against before placing a hand on Arian's shoulder briefly and entering the house. "I hope you haven't been too stressed today. And if you have, then I know a few jokes that may be able to help you relax for a bit. They are awful but, I'm sure I can get a smile or two!"

"Oh those look good" Arian said as his eyes went to the cookies that Anxo was holding, giving an appreciative sniff as his nose caught the sweet scent of caramel intermixed with sugar.

He let Anxo precede him into the apartment before turning to shut the door.

"I'm in the finishing stages" he admitted as he let Lola down and slipped into the bathroom next to the kitchen area to wash his hands before walking back into the kitchen area to rummage through a cupboard. "I'm heading over to my cousin's place tomorrow."

As the two of them were booked on the same flight, it had made sense for the two of them to head to the airport together and Arian had agreed with Saffy that he would come over at some point during the afternoon before flight day and stay overnight so that they could head to the airport first thing.

He set down a couple of mugs on the counter and put the kettle on to boil before rummaging around for the tea as he called out to Anxo "Will English Breakfast tea work for you?"

"Oh, then I'm lucky to have caught you! I would have been just heart broken if I couldn't see your smile one more time before you left. Drowning in my sorrows, I would have eaten this entire basket on my own and then have the worst stomach ache ever." Of course Anxo was exaggerating, but he truly would have been distressed if he had not caught his friend in time. And he PROBABLY would have eaten all the cookies as well, just... Not all at once.

It wasn't very hard to navigate around the apartment, especially since the kitchen was one of the first things he had passed. He placed the basket on the closest counter before walking around to sit on it's opposite side in a chair. His own apartment had a similar set up, kitchen wise, but that was the last similarity they shared.

"I'm always so stunned to be in your home... It's so big!" His own place was probably only the size of their living room and kitchen, but for a place where he lived all alone, it wasn't so bad. It certainly felt cozy. "Ah, yes, that will do great, thank you."

From there, Anxo simply watched Arian about the kitchen, taking in as much as he could of the young man before he was gone for who knows how long... Actually, his itenerary said exactly how long he'd be gone for, but that wouldn't mean he would miss him any less.

"How are you feeling? You know, actually feeling about all of this? About your dad?" All of the specific details, the young man didn't really know. He knew that Arian didn't really approve of the wedding, and it seemed like he was only going because of his cousin, but that was about it. "I wouldn't hesitate to come with you, you know. Just say the word and I'll be on the flight next to you for support."

Arian's lips quirked up slightly into a small smile at Anxo's antics "I'm not going to be away that long" he said.

It was for just slightly over three weeks, with him due to fly back on September 21st.

The smile faded at the mention of the apartment size and he busied himself with reaching up to fetch down the box of English Breakfast tea bags because Anxo was right in that the apartment was too big for one person, one cat and one mauvian.

Although it hadn't been that way when he'd first moved in two or so years ago.

But Arian hadn't told Anxo about Liryn and he hadn't told him about Orah either - because whilst Arian knew that his friend and once team mate was almost certainly dead, it still hurt to think about her...

And if he took a little long fetching down the tea bags then hopefully Anxo wouldn't call him on it.

Plopping a teabag into each of the mugs, Arian reached back in the cupboard the fetch down a plate for the cookies. A rummage through the biscuit tin unearthed a few sugar cookies and Arian added them to the caramel cookies before carefully reaching out to pour some hot water into the mugs.

"It's really sweet of you to offer" he said quietly at Anxo's offer about coming out to the UK with him as he arranged everything on a tray before reaching out to add the sugar pot and pour the last of the milk into the milk jug. "But it'll be fine - besides I'm not going just for the wedding."

It wasn't something that he was planning to elaborate on because both were things that Arian felt that he kind of had to get through on his own and so he reached for one of the caramel cookies that Anxo had brought and bit into it before setting it next to the mug that he'd designated as his and reaching to pick up the tray as he tried to change the subject "By the way these are really good."

Because the cookies really did taste as good as they looked.

"Yeah, I know.. But it doesn't mean I'll miss you any less." Anxo's words were said in earnest, a rather affectionate tone lacing them as he smiled at Arian while he worked about the kitchen. Of course he would not call out Arian as he noticed he was taking a while longer than needed to pull down the tea. Perhaps he had been lost in thought, which was more than a common occurrence with Anxo himself.

It was such a shame the smile left so quickly... Had he said something wrong? He felt the need to ask but it didn't think it was an appropriate time to do so. Not with the already stressing things going on for his friend.

"For the wedding and vacation then? Or to visit old friends and places? That sounds so exciting, It makes me wish You'd invite me to come even more!" The tea was well received and he loaded it up all the way to the brim with milk. Until he had met Arian, he had never thought to add milk to any other tea besides Chai, and now it seems he could not drink tea without the milk. "Maybe when things settle down, we could plan something simple, a day trip to maybe one of the amusement parks on the coast, or maybe to the beach before it gets too cold."

Anxo was far too cozy with using 'we' and 'us' and only partially hoped that Arian wouldn't notice. Of course, his little wandering thoughts were distracted as soon as his baking was complimented.

"Do you think so? I had this amazing cookie from a grocery store the other day and tried to recreate the recipe. I figured mine would taste even better since then it would be made with fresh caramel bits and a just a touch of love!" Even with this said, he reached to pick up a sugar cookie instead. There was no telling how many of the first batch of caramel cookies he had eaten.

"Oh, so who's going to watch the kitty here? Will she be staying with another friend?"

Arian didn't immediately answer Anxo's question, instead busying himself with finishing off the cookie that he'd taken because truth be told neither the trip or the wedding were things that he was particularly looking forward to.

It wasn't something that he voiced however as he reached for another the caramel cookies that Anxo had bought.

"It's been a while since I've been back" he said at last and in its way it was true because this trip would be his first trip back since coming to Destiny City at the age of 16 - and that had 5 years ago give or take.

As it happened Arian had noticed Anxo's tendency to use 'we' and 'us' but he had kind of put it down to being an Anxo thing at some point since their first meeting during the museum blind date thing and so he didn't comment on it.

Instead he smiled slightly as the other asked if he really thought that the cookie was good "Definitely - they're very moreish."

And whilst a part of him was relieved at the chance to switch subjects, he was also being honest - after all he had finished cookie number two and was on his third.

"And yes I sorted out something for Lola."

"Maybe it's a good time to go back. Especially with how messed up this city's been... I would be very sad if you decided on this but, maybe there would be a little more happiness back home. The familiarity of it all, the memories and the safety... But from what it sounds like, you don't really want to go home either... Geh, don't mind me, my mind's all frazzled. Hehe..." Anxo felt a little more tired than he already had now that the thought of what he did here in the city began to form in his mind again. It seemed like no matter how hard he fought, how hard he wanted to protect people, it fell right through his grasp. That was neither here nor there, to be quiet honest. His own lamentations were gently kicked to the back of his mind, instead of focusing on Arian once more.

"Moreish... I don't think I've heard that term all that often, unless you count m-o-o-r-ish. Like the decor. It is a nice word." His words grew a little softer, and he continued to smile, but it faltered a little, his gaze turning down to look at the half eaten cookie in his hand. Arian really was leaving. Not forever, but he would be gone, and Anxo didn't seem to know how to respond to it much more than he already had. His small talk seemed to end in a trailing thought, and he couldn't think of what else he could even say.

His mind wandered over to how badly he longed to be there for Arian, which honestly wasn't that uncommon. Anxo was certainly the kind of person who would give every minute, every hour, every single second of his life to a person who needed it, but even more so than lately, he wanted to give more to the handsome dark haired man. There was a deep rooted need to come out to him, to tell him how much he cared and how much he wanted to get closer, to try to be that comfort and confidant it seemed that Arian needed, even if he didn't. And more than anything, he wanted to protect him. As Fornax, he knew he was weak, he wasn't the strongest or the brightest senshi out there, but he had the drive to work through the pain and suffering and depression, if only so that he knew others were safe.

Ah, but it wasn't his place to say such a thing right now, was it? How awful of a friend would he be to burden Arian with the knowledge of how he felt on the day he was supposed to leave? Did he love Arian? of course he did! He loved everyone and anyone he met, it was the person he was, nothing that he could change, and there was no desire to either. But this wasn't that same kind of affection he would give anything, it was more, so much more.

After another moment of silence and contemplation, Anxo put the cookie down, reaching over across the counter they sat at to gently place his hand onto Arian's. It was a light tough, one that had no intention of keeping the other's in place or restricting him in any way.

"You're going through so much, and I know and understand it, or atleast try to. Please know that I'm here for you, that I want to be there for you... When you return, may I see you again?" The smile that lived near permanently on his face couldn't help but return. He really did adore Arian, so how could he not smile. "I'd like to hear about your trip, to be with you for a bit while you recuperate from it."

His cheeks finally took on a rosy tint, and his hand pulled away to scratch absently at his nose, averting his eyes from staying too long in one spot.

"Hehe... If that's alright with you."

Quote:
Arian reached out for his mug and added several teaspoons of sugar to the contents.

"I'm not going to be staying." There was a firm note in his voice - a quiet confidence as he added "My home's here now."

Because when he thought of home he now thought of Destiny City.

It was hard to pinpoint just when over the 5 years that he had stopped thinking of the UK as home, but Arian thought that even without the whole craziness of his alternate life and the whole senshi business that he would have considered Destiny City as home.

But Anxo didn't know about his activities as Athene and it was something that was deliberate - because the other wasn't involved and Arian was trying very hard to make sure that his friend stayed not involved.

Because powered life was dangerous and it was not something that he would wish on his friends - on any of his friends - even the ones that had no choice but to be involved.

He took a sip of his tea and then considered it for a moment before dolloping in a couple more teaspoons of sugar, his lips quirking up in a small amused smile as he admitted ruefully "I'm not really sure that moreish is actually a proper word, but it's a good way to describe things even if it isn't really good English."

Arian wasn’t sure how to answer Anxo’s next comment and so took another sip of tea before reaching for another cookie and bit into it to delay saying anything.

"I'm okay Anxo" he said at last and whilst it wasn’t strictly true, Arian figured all he had to do was get through the wedding - after all it wasn’t as if the wedding was about him or his wishes and whilst he doubted he could do wildly happy Arian knew that he could do polite - after all his grandparents had taught him all about being polite.

His lips quirked up in a smile that was somewhat forced "I'll send you a postcard" he hesitated "That is if you’re okay with me sending you one?"

He made it a question.

Quote:
“It’s a cute word nonetheless!” The young man couldn’t help but chuckle as he watched Arian add more and more sugar to his tea. He certainly didn’t have a sweet tooth, there was no denying that one bit.

Anxo wasn’t quite sure what to make of the reaction he received. Was it a good one? That sounded forced, didn’t it? Somehow he felt his chest tighten as it seemed like his question was brushed off, food being taken as if Arian was considering what to say next. And instead of a response, he was served another question. He knew he was stupid for trying to bring up something like this at such an inconvenient time… It was selfish of him to even think of wanted to be the person who Arian could come to.

But he was okay. Arian was okay. And that’s what truly mattered.

“I would love to receive one from you!” he replied with as much enthusiasm as he did over most things. “Hehe, It means alot to me that you would even briefly think of me during your trip. I know I will be missing you something terrible while you’re gone. Can you still text over Wi-Fi overseas? I’d be happy to lend you some support if you need it, even if it’s simply a little ‘omg why is this happening?!’ kinda message.”

Quote:
A part of him felt relieved when Anxo didn't push, even though Arian knew that he was probably being unfair - but he didn't particularly want to talk about his father's upcoming nuptials either...

In fact it wasn't something that he'd initially been planning on going to, was something where he would rather be pretty much anywhere else but.

A promise was a promise though and going to the wedding was the price that he had to pay for his cousin’s help in helping him sort out the apartment mess after Orah’s disappearance.

"Thank you" and whilst the words were perhaps out of place, they were genuine nonetheless.

"And I'm not sure if it's possible to text whilst overseas - at least not with paying a ton in roaming fees, but I can probably do email." And his smile softened to something more genuine as he admitted "Although I'm not sure my emails will be that interesting."

Quote:
“Think nothing of it. I’m just here to help the best way I can. Always have, always will.” The thoughts and feelings egged on by his own feelings were ignored for now, pushed to the farthest reaches of his mind to ponder over later. Hopefully this time they would stay this way too. His desire for cookies waned significantly, however, and he just languidly stirred his own teacup, occasionally taking another sip.

“Emails would work. I could fill you in on any interesting happenings in DC while you’re gone. Maybe I’ll go out and try new places to eat and send you silly little reviews on where we should visit when you get back. Just… Small distractions from day to day to help ease over any irritation that might well up while you’re trapped there for the wedding. Let’s hope it goes well and quickly, then you can come back home to the people who miss you here.”

He took another long sip of his tea before he set down an empty cup.

“I really shouldn’t be taking up all of your time, Arian, so… Let me know when it’s time to leave, okay? Hehe, you know me, I’ll talk and talk and talk if you let me.”

Quote:
Arian nodded "And I should probably get back to packing" he admitted ruefully "Since I'm going to be heading over to my cousin's place tomorrow and so need to be all packed by tonight."

He looked up at Anxo "But thank you for coming over," he said quietly "I appreciate it and I'll do my best to make sure I find a decent postcard to send."

It would probably be from Wales, since Arian wasn't sure he'd have time to do so once he headed down to the wedding proper.

"And I'd like to meet up again once I'm back - maybe we could pick a place to have tea or something."

Quote:
“Yeah, gotcha! I’ll say my goodbyes here then.” Anxo pushed away from the counter, standing up then stretching a good bit, letting his back pop in a few places. After neatly tucking in his chair and quickly putting his cup into the sink, he gave Arian another one of his smiles that were meant only for the other.

“Tea or coffee or cocoa or smoothies. I’m up for anything, as long as you’re there. Everything seems sweeter when you’re around.” There wasn’t much he brought with him; the only thing he had on him that wasn’t in his pockets was the basket of goodies, and that was meant to stay here until they were gone. Plus it gave him an excuse to come and see Arian again. Not that he really needed one. The door was before him, and he turned for a moment to look back at his friend with a grin.

“I think, all in all, everything is going to go just fine, Arian. You’ll be home before you know it. And after that… Well, It’s time to move on and start prepping for the next year. It’ll be a grand one, for sure. And hopefully… We can spend more of it together. Bon Voyage for now, my friend!” With one last wave, and a grin, Anxo left the apartment, content with what had happened. It wasn’t completely perfect, but he had said what he needed to, and Arian, hopefully, knew he was there for him. All that was left to do was to wait patiently for his return.
