Chapter 1: Beginnings
It was a cold and dead quiet night in the main village of Caelum. Only the occasional sound of a cough or the gentle brushing sound of the desert weeds rustling against the buildings. This silence would be broken by the sudden cries of a child, coming from the chief's encampment and from then on, the desert never sat quietly. The child born was of the Chief's third wife of five; Rea. She was a beautiful red headed woman who's skin shone like moonlight and her voice was soft like silk. The child she gave birth to was the Chief's third son and was given the name Venersis, meaning Red Moon in the Caelum tongue. His hair was red like his mothers but shared many characteristics of his father as well, but something was different about him. When the Chief pulled the child from his mothers arms and looked deep into his emerald eyes, he could see a deep black mark floating behind the child's right eye. A small tear would be shed from the Chief as he looked over this mark on his child's eye, before passing him back to his mother. "He is marked!" he exclaimed happily, followed by the cheers of the villagers outside the tent. Venersis had been one of the chosen few in the village that were claimed by the "Mark of the Kings". Only one in every ten children of the desert are born with a mark placed upon their bodies. The location is different for each one but they all share the same fate of greatness. All those who have been marked within the village history, rose to greatness and left their mark unto the village histories. And the Chief had been waiting for 25 long years to have a child with a mark. Due to the village traditions only those who are marked may lead the villages as Chief and his previous two son's had not been born with the mark. Leaving them destined to at most, be royal guardsmen.
The previously quiet night was now filled with the cheering and partying of the whole village, over the birth of Venersis, the young Chief.
Chapter 2: Problem Child
The Chief would rub his temples furiously, in vain attempts to ward off the coming headache. "What now." he commanded bluntly to one of his wives. "It's Venersis dear." she would reply. Letting out a deep sigh, the Chief knew what she had meant. Gathering himself slowly he walked out of his tent and flagged down a guard. "Find the boy.....again." he sighed before re-entering his tent. The look on the guards face was that of horror, being given the job of finding the Chief's pride and joy. Looking towards on of his fellow guardsmen he spoke up. "Any idea wher-" his question cut off by the loud yelp and banging noises of a tent nearby, followed by "YOU DEVIL CHILD!" a woman shrieked. Heaving a great sigh, the guard set out towards the noise.
When he would arrive to the location of the ruckus he would see Venersis sitting atop of a pile of broken items and goods, simply munching down on a rather large peach. "Oi~" he waved to the guardsmen with a devilish grin. Looking over the scene of destroyed goods he eventually met eyes with the victim of Venersis's games. "Many pardons." the guard bowed before grabbing hold of Venersis's collar and dragging him off towards the Chief's tent. Near halfway to the location, whilst giving Venersis a good scolding the guard would notice that whatever he was dragging had lost some weight. Looking back towards where Venersis was suppose to be, he saw that all he had now was the boy's jacket. "Gunna hav't do better en that." Venersis grinned towards the guard, before walking off back towards the village. "YOU BRAT!" a sudden scream echo'd out as a man zoomed past the dumbfounded guard. With a loud crack the Chief had chopped down atop of Venersis's head, knocking the young boy for a loop. "Damn child." he muttered as he slung his now unconscious son over his shoulder. "Keep this up and I'll feed you to the horses...." he muttered to himself as he walked back towards his tent. Followed by the muffled sounds of his wife scolding him for being too rough to the child.
Chapter 3: Charismatic Young Chief
A few year's later another civil war would break out between the numerous villages, some siding with the original Chief and others with a new young blood. With the peaceful times now thrown into chaos, the young Venersis would have to grow up quickly to survive this. Now age 14 Venersis had proved himself a very capable warrior. His skill with a bow was near godly, already unrivaled among the village warriors and his skill with a sword was nothing to scoff at either. But his other most invaluable skill was his cunning. Venersis lacked many book smarts and often was labeled as a meat head, but he was very sharp. His street smarts and cunning way of thinking often propelled himself above and beyond his opponents. Himself coining the phrase "Honor is for knights and idiots.".
After almost three long years of fighting, the civil war had ended. Many had died and others had been taken as prisoners of war. Venersis's village looked out over the hill and awaited the return of their soldiers. One after another, families hugged necks and kissed there missed love ones, but the old chief looked over them all, and only looked for his son Venersis. Alas no sign of him showed. After for waiting almost a whole year, the Chief finally announced the death of his son to the desert. He would hold a great funeral for the lost Venersis, inviting all the villages around. Many soldiers spoke on his behalf, speaking of how he held the army together in times of sadness and strife. His great personality always bringing everyone together at the end of the day, and that he would be greatly missed and remembered. But during the midst of the funeral a great thundering could be heard, almost like the sound of hundreds of footsteps walking through sand. When suddenly the sound was shown, hundreds upon hundreds of men crested the great dunes of the village, led by a young red headed soldier. "Sorry I'm late." he would shout from atop the dunes towards the funeral attendees before galloping down the dune on his horse. "Had some baggage I'd forgotten." he laughed as he pointed towards all the soldiers behind him. The faces of the village had lit up, seeing all the faces that were thought dead, but were in fact just prisoners of war. He had spent the whole year liberating all his men who where taken prisoner and had just finally made it back home.
Chapter 4: Gone
Another few years would pass before one day the village was in a frenzy. The Chief had woken up to a note aside his bed that was from Venersis. It read:
"Father. I have seen many thing's during my times at war, I visited new lands and saw many new things. I'm fully aware of my responsibility as the next Chief and aware of our ban of outside contact. But you know me. I like to do thing's at my own pace and disrupt the status quo. I hope you'll find it in yourself to forgive this brash and disrespectful son as he explores the world. I'll be back some day."
Regards,
Venersis.
