Jackie had told him to forget, but he couldn't.
Something was wrong with his memories and he needed to know exactly what it was. And maybe James needed something to distract him from recent events. Work simply wasn't cutting it so, despite his sister's weird and cryptic warnings he continued to look for the answers he knew he needed.
He'd had enough of lesson plans and grading papers, he needed to do something. He needed to move lest he explode.
So, despite himself and his general aversion to all things Negaverse and it's duties, the man had left his apartment and dared to let the chaos wash over him. It left him a little jittery, as it often did since his promotion, but he pushed the creeping anxiety aside.
Distract, he ordered himself and so, he headed to the seedier part of the city. He'd collect energy from the thugs who didn't know when to quit and maybe, if he was lucky, he'd find information he was looking for from the willing.

He was healed - mostly - so patrols were a thing again, though he was under strict orders from Nadia, Lorne, Auguste, Vanessa, and Quenton to not overdo it. It had been agreed by his team that he would only do short patrols when alone and he intended to keep to it; truth be told, Colin really needed to try and stay whole and healthy if he didn't want to lose his career even earlier than he might (ballet was notorious cutthroat, especially the closer you got to the top in any company; few dancers performed into their thirties for various reasons and he intended to make it at least that far).
Aegir had already had one encounter with a youma - saving a young woman and her toddler from being eaten by it - and had walked them home; he was actually in the middle of watching Gina and her child stepping into their apartment complex when he felt the so-familiar feeling of a nearby Chaos signature flaring across his senses. I need to go check that out, it's never a good thing..
So the curly-haired eternal of silence lept, taking the higher ground as he made his way toward what was reading as a captain's energy. Good, he thought to himself, I can handle a captain pretty well. But mostly he was hoping that he'd come across one of the rare officers that were unhappy with their lot or didn't want to fight for whatever reason. Even after all this time, after Schörl and Moonstone and those like them, Aegir was still the sort that held out hope for his 'opponents'. He knew that there was good in many of them, that just because a person bore the mark of Chaos did not automatically mean they were awful, horrible people.
Some, like Titan, did what they did because they felt it was the right thing, even if to him it wasn't. So he tried to keep that in mind and hoped.
Aegir drew close quickly, but then slowed so that whomever it was would hopefully not be frightened away or assume that he wished to start a fight. There was a shape, he thought it might be the officer though it were dark and the man shrouded in shadows. "Hullo there-" Was that non-offensive enough?
Was this going to be a violent encounter, or something else? Please be reasonable, please. I really don't want to hurt anyone tonight...

Aluminite felt someone approaching him and his entire body went rigid in response. His first thought was that he should leave, teleport somewhere else that would hopefully be order free. He didn't leave, even though his instincts were telling him to.
He ran away enough, maybe it was time to just stay.
So, by the time the curly blond found him, Aluminite had decided to lean against the wall of one of the buildings that stretched through the streets. His hood was drawn up, obscuring his face partially from view, and his arms were folded across his chest. He was clearly attempting to appear relaxed, but there was still an obviously line of tension in the way he held himself.
A string ready to snap.
The order aura was large, strong, stiffling and it reminded the captain of that knight he had run into. Too much, too soon.
His head hurt.
"What can I do for you?" He asked instead of returning the greeting. Obviously whomever this man was, he wanted something or he wouldn't have come looking for him.

Affected nonchalance. Is he frightened, he's not strong enough to take me on if that's what I were about, so I suppose that's smart. Aegir moved into a position that put him down, nearer the captain but still at a respectful distance; he tried to keep his body language open and non-threatening. "Well, I thought..." Aegir let the words trail off and then laughed, not sure what he'd thought would happen when he caught up to the Captain. "You know, I just felt your aura and wondered if there were civilians in trouble. I see now there's not...so maybe just to talk? If you're willing, that is." "I'm Aegir, by the way."

Aluminite calmed himself by remembering that he could still teleport, his energy strong and fresh, and he, at the very least, knew how to defend himself. He didn't know the first thing about the man standing opposite of him, perhaps he'd get lucky and the man wouldn't be much of a fighter if it came down to it...
His expression darkened slightly and the captain had to clamp his mouth shut to keep from saying unnecessary things. Aluminite was always careful about whom he chose for energy gathering. Always sleazier patrons who were too drunk to notice.
He didn't hurt people.
"That depends on what you want to 'talk' about."

While Aluminite was sizing up whether or not he'd be able to escape or defend himself against the eternal senshi, Aegir was doing the same with him. Or rather, he was trying to figure out whether or not the sharp-eyed captain would be willing to simply have a chat rather than a brawl; not that Aegir was overmuch worried about his chances if it did come to a fight. Aluminite really was unfortunate in that area, for the senshi of silence was actually quite the consummate fighter in his own way, using his gymnastic abilities and ballet moves in a way that was both powerful and effective. He'd had a long time to work these things out, after all. Aegir heard the air quotes the captain put on 'talk' and couldn't help smiling. "Well, first...I really do mean talk. Like, talk 'talk'. Not fighting." Unless I have to, of course. Then I will take you down if possible...but I think you already know that."And second, I don't believe that every Negaverse officer is an evil monster trying to kill everyone." Was he perhaps one of the officers that seemed to prefer hunting the dregs of society? Some of the younger - and more human - members of the Negaverse came across as unwilling to harm people overmuch; it was quite possible that this captain was one of them. "I fight to protect innocent people and to save my own a**. So if you're cool with us not having a street brawl, I am too." Here the curly haired blond's smile kicked up the wattage a bit, "What're you called? Or what should I call you, rather? I understand if you'd prefer to keep your name a secret, but I'll feel stupid if I don't have something to call you." Aegir was trying his best to put forth a friendly vibe, but he wasn't stupid enough to cease being wary of Aluminite or the damage that he could do if he got close enough.

"Yeah, I got that," he snapped. "Do I look like I'm about to go all guns a blazing on you?" His tone was sharp and dry, with a bite behind ever single word. It wasn't fair of him, Aegir hadn't done anything wrong but he was on edge.
Something was crawling beneath his skin, settling in his bones that made him antsy. Anxious. And Aluminite was a tightly wound string about to snap regardless of the way he tried to force himself to loosen and relax.
His shoulders slumped but his knuckles remained white from where they fisted the fabric of his sleeves. "Maybe you should," he said quietly, bitterly. While the captain preferred to think of himself as someone that did what he had not and avoided damaging others if he could, he couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe everyone that had been dragged into the Negaverse had a corrupted seed at the core.
That they were inherently bad.
Forget about space Jamie, he could hear his sister saying and he shook his head to push the voice away. Space had been the beginning of the end, how could he forget?
"Aluminite." He answered finally, voice wrought with strain and tension. "If you start preaching about a better way of life, I won't hesitate to punch you and bail. Fair warning." He'd heard enough of senshi shoving their opinion's on his life down his throat already.

While the officer wasn't being physically combative, his language and body language didn't lend well to having a peaceable, reasonable conversation without altercation. It was probably a good thing that Aegir was such an easy going fellow, or he'd likely have already decided against having a chat with the abrasive young man in wolf's clothing. "You certainly sound like it." "And you look like something's eating at you. Which...I guess is accurate even if you only count being in the Negaverse." He watched Aluminite's shoulders slump, the guy was trying - but he was bothered. Afraid, maybe. "There are very few people in the Negaverse that I'd consider beyond redemption. You don't seem to be one of them." Aluminite, huh? And if you weren't in the Negaverse, would you be someone else? What potential's in you that's been twisted? Aegir shook his head and snorted a bit, "Well - it's nice to meet you, Aluminite. And I'm not gonna start preaching about a better way of life, that's....I'd probably have to punch myself for it. "Order or Chaos, we basically want the same thing...we're just going about it differently. And yeah, some of us are misguided...or just plain stupid. But I mean...you love the Earth, right? You just want to live...to feel safe maybe? Same." "Just so you know, I almost joined the Negaverse, a few years ago. I don't know if one side is better than the other, honestly. I feel like I'm doing what's right for me, but that's as far as it goes. So no, no preaching from me. Just...I can try to answer questions or just talk to you. If you wanted to purify, I can maybe help there too, put you in contact with the right people for it. And if you don't? That's okay. I understand. It's not an easy life we lead." Nuxaz sorry it's taken me so long >_<

If Aluminite had to describe himself, he would say that he was a wounded animal in a cage, desperate to escape except he didn't know what from. Guilt, most likely, then fear, he suspected. But what good would it do him to try and explain any of it to this senshi who was spun in white and creams and gold and looked to be everything he was not.
His first response would have been, I doubt any of us are really worth redeeming, because all he could think about was the metaphorical blood on his hands. They all had a bit of red in their ledger, didn't they? Still, the captain managed to bite his tongue, swallow the bitter words back down his throat because all he could think about was the dark haired, pale blue clad senshi who had kept pushing when all signs screamed stop.
He wondered if Aegir would end up being the same way.
Instead of speaking at all, he clenched his jaw and listened. "I don't want to do anything." Purifying sounded like such an ugly word to him, but perhaps that was the conditioning talking. Leaving seemed impossible, he had a life, a family and a girlfriend that he cared for very much. All things that would be put at risk if anyone thought that he risked becoming a turncoat.
"Why? Why did you almost join?" Aluminite was desperate to talk about anything but himself.

Aegir watched Aluminite thoughtfully, wondering at the things going on behind guarded eyes while he stood silently, working over what the senshi had said and whatever retort welled from within. There would be no push to have an answer, it seemed counter productive and Aegir was at least intelligent enough to be capable of seeing that much in another person. "Ah, apologies. I shouldn't assume things are a matter of want." Would interest have been a better word to use for you? Or is it need? What's driving you, captain? It wouldn't be easy, either - not as simple as just having him touch base with Cosmos, no. A new life, losing whatever he currently had - nothing was ever simple in a war. Of course he doesn't want to do anything, stupid to use that word."I met some of your officers and they seemed really...I don't know if kind was the word, but their interests seemed to follow mine at the time. I've always just wanted to protect the Earth and the people I loved. The captain I talked to the most said that was what the Negaverse was trying to do, and that senshi were aliens trying to forcibly steal Earth from humans." Here the senshi made a bit of a face, one of those half-sheepish, almost apologetic ones, "And some other things that I'm kind of embarrassed I fell for, but I was naive and a kid. "But I really was headed right for the Negaverse. And I know some of your officers aren't awful. Some are, don't get me wrong. You have some...real pieces of work. But...so do we. It's like with any group, I think. I try to be practical about this sort of thing."

He shifted uncomfortably, wishing that Aegir would stop looking at him. Especially like that.
Regardless of what the man thought, there was very little about him that was worth knowing or understanding. He wanted to protect people and he tried. He only drained from men who were sleazing on women who clearly weren't interested. Or people who committed petty crimes that he could watch happen. People that were acting in a manner that would have classified them as bad in that moment.
He only took what he needed to and tried to do nothing more than that.
But Aluminite didn't think that excused the things he did or that he was any less guilty that the people he punished and that was the worst part of it.
And it was nice, barely listening as the senshi prattled on about what he'd almost done and why. In truth, the captain was barely paying attention, but it drew the focus off of him and onto the other person, which was all he truly wanted. "Why didn't you?" He asked in the end, only looking up then as he picked at the lines of his coat.
