Silence began to break as movement began to slither through the caves. Dusk had come and those that preferred the night began to rise. The sounds were dull at first, slinking and thunking sounds B'alam stretched or rolled off their siblings after being huddled in a warm ball together. And steadily the noise increased as excited Tah's and Nan's greeted one another and a new night began.
Vazper slowly stretched his front paws out as far as they could reach, claws extending as a great yawn opened his maw. Wings were next, unfurling from his back to stretch out to their full length before settling comfortably at his sides again. His tail uncurled from around him as he slowly sat up, eyes half open and ears listening to the sounds of the night beginning. He didn't greet anyone as there was no one around to greet. A bit of a loner, he preferred it that way. Opening his eyes more fully, he looked around to be sure no one was going to suddenly jump out at him.
But there was no one around. Vazper took advantage of this and slunk out of his section of the caves. He padded along quietly, heading towards the outside world.
While his brethren did so enjoy the darkness of the caves - and he did to, he wouldn't deny that - Vazper loved the outside. And, most importantly, the stars. An excitement entered his step as his ears perked up and the normally stoic tah sped up to dash outside and see the first stars begin to shine. They were such beautiful little objects that confounded him yet fascinated him. He smiled a little as he hunted down a perch in which he could sit to watch and welcome the stars.

Having gotten an early start on her travels for the day, the purple nan traveling the lands had easily been distracted by one thing or another. Her curiosity would probably be her eventual downfall. But she wad determined to keep heading in the direction of what she hoped would be the next tribe's territory. Even as the sun was setting and the lands were growing darker, Raven pushed herself. She could feel others nearby, but not knowing exactly where the Dark Tribe called home, finding it before night completely fell was looking like a lost cause. With the sun finally setting, the slim nan heaved a sigh and took in her surroundings. There were trees she could crawl up into for the night. Or perhaps she'd find a little den under their roots? Shaking her head, she veered towards them.
Or attempted too. Her paw caught on a medium sized rock she'd not seen. With a small squeak of a cry, the nan tripped and toppled over. She lay there for a few minutes just laughing at herself. Well, that was what she got for having such a grand idea of exploring the lands by herself! Not that she hadn't met others. Even a couple that were traveling like she herself was. There just didn't seem to be anyone heading towards the Dark Tribe when she was.
"Maybe I will find them still." She murmured, speaking aloud so as not to feel quite as alone. "They're nocturnal. That's what that kind tah told me." And she did sense others. Somewhere close by. Perhaps.... she should keep pushing herself a little further?

It had taken him several minutes to find the perfect perch atop the rocks. Looking down towards the surrounding forest, the trees seemed to sway like the grass he'd heard described in the plains. He'd never been, but something in him made him believe that this is what it would look like from the tree tops, looking down on the grass. Giving the ground only a second more of his attention, Vazper lifted his gaze up and something inside him just relaxed. A very pensive and serene look fell across his features as the awe of the stars dotting the night sky caught his full attention.
Not for the first time, he wondered how such amazing things were placed up in the sky? It was not anything he knew much about and as hard as he racked his mind for some sort of answer, none ever came. They were simply marvels placed up in the heavens for him to wander over night after night.
A strange sound finally drew his gaze from the star filled heavens. He frowned as he blinked and looked all around slowly. At first, he did not see anything. Shifting his position slightly, a glimpse of...something caught his eye. Focusing on the spot he'd seen movement, Vazper watched intently until the form of a balam appeared. A nan, he could tell. And not one from his tribe.
Vazper didn't have much time to contemplate too much on this fact. The nan tripped over something - her own feet? - and fell to the ground. Normally, such a thing wouldn't bother him and he'd just go about his business and ignore her. However, he was in a good mood and felt like investigating. So, he spread his wings and with a final glance up at the stars, the black tah glided down towards the clumsy nan.

The purple nan was in the process of getting her paws under her once again when there was suddenly a shadow that swooped down. The awareness of it being another b’alam was a split second too late before Raven hissed in surprise and leaped backwards. Or at least attempted to. She wound up hitting her rump harder than intended as her back foot caught on her tail painfully. The nan winced and tried to hide any embarrassment she felt. Her golden eyes settled on the shadowy blob that had been the source of her fright.
It was a large tah, dark as the night sky. As he settled the appendages sprouting from his sides, Raven realized he wasn’t as massive as he first appeared. He just had wings! A small shiver went down her spine at the thought of wings and flying in the sky, so very high up… Definitely not for her. Thank the Weaver she hadn’t awoken with those extra appendages!
Staring at his wings and their batlike appearance, it occurred to her that maybe he was one of those that she felt nearby? Hadn’t she heard that the Dark Tribe had such wings?
“Are you from the Dark Tribe?” She blurted out before she could catch herself. Swallowing around the sudden lump in her throat, she ducked her head a little shyly in her greater embarrassment.

Vazper just regarded the nan before him with a blank stare. She was doing a marvelous job at making the fool of herself, in his opinion. He did feel a little hint of guilt at having startled her, especially when she caught her tail under her foot. That had looked a little painful. And the way she kept staring at him? The tah felt like fidgeting, but settled for folding his wings against his sides.
“Yes, I am from the Dark Tribe.” He answered her blunt question in a dry sort of tone. What else would he be? With great wings such as his and the caves that gave entrance to the world underground? A snort escaped followed by a sigh. He should have just stayed up on his perch.
“Where do you come from?” He asked, since they seemed to be jumping right to the main topics of conversation. “Certainly not from here.” The dark tah added with an indifferent stare as he looked the nan over again.

Now she really felt heat warming her cheeks. Was he… trying to make fun of her?! That was rude! Well, okay so was bluntly asking if he was from the Dark Tribe. She felt her ears lower as she lifted her chin slightly to meet his indifferent gaze.
“I am from the Earth Tribe originally. Or at least that is where I awoke. I’ve traveled to the Water Tribe and have now come to your Tribe.” She stated matter of factly. “I don’t know much about the other Tribes, but I wanted to learn.” Why was she just prattling on about what she was attempting to do? And why did his gaze make her want to appear like she wasn’t as dimwitted as she suspected he might view her?
Huffing slightly, Raven took the opportunity to stand and stretch before sitting in a much more comfortable position with her tail curling around her paws. There! Maybe now she wouldn’t appear so childish. Or whatever he might think. Why did she care?!

He suspected as much. She didn’t have any wings or other telltale signs he was aware of other Tribes having. But to be fair, he didn’t know much about the other Tribes himself. Unlike this curious nan, he didn’t feel inclined to travel around and discover what he could.
Watching her puff up at his question, a small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. She was a feisty little thing. Definitely not dull. Strange, he usually avoided b’alam with much more outgoing personalities. Yet something about this nan amused him. It made him want to bait her, just to see her reactions.
“I applaud you for the courage to do so. I myself have not felt so inclined. But seeing as you were seeking the Dark Tribe, I guess I could properly introduce you to my home.” A soft chuckle escaped. “Though I usually try to learn a ladies name before such things.” He teased, a rare thing from the normally aloof tah. Weaver help him! If he knew what was for his own good, he’d point her in the direction of the entrance and bid her farewell. Yet for some reason, he didn’t quite want to be rid of her company. There was just something about her that pulled at him.
He should have just kept stargazing.

A smile spread along her features. “Thank you. I don’t know why, except maybe it was how the Weaver saw best to have me woven into being. But my feet never seem ready to sit in one place for too long.” She tilted her head in a curious fashion. “Or maybe they just haven’t found the right place to settle yet.” The nan shook her head. “I hope that one day, I can learn what the answer is.”
Her features all but lit up at mention of being shown the Dark Tribe. Really? He’d show her his home Tribe?! That was so marvelous! And it was probably for the best, since it was the “dark” tribe. Wait… Raven found herself suddenly laughing.
“F-Forgive me!” She managed to get out, raising a paw to try and hide her laughter. “I guess my excitement just got carried away. Something that seems to happen frequently.” She added as an afterthought before shaking her whole body and standing to face the dark tah. “My name is Raven.”
Offering him another sweet smile, she added, “Thank you for offering to be my… tour guide! And I am sorry for being startled by you before.”
