Jeremiah found him and, in true fashion of the troublesome youth he once was, snuck up on his husband and slid an arm around his waist before pulling him towards the main hall for a dance. It was not quite 2am, not yet, and there was still time for at least one dance. Before everything reached the point of no return and they would, inevitably, have to make a decision about the parts they were to play this evening. "Hullo, precious," he said quietly, spinning the other man around in his arms and giving him a smile. "I would like to dance."

Alg jolted with surprise, deep in thought and buried in low levels of anxiety, but thankfully had a handle enough on himself not to spin and strike his husband in the face. "Jeremiah-" He breathed as it the other were air and he needed it. "I've got something to tell you." The dance was welcome and he turned in his husband's arms to slide his arms around his neck. "It's... something."

The hall was still decked in black, no longer ivory, and the patrons were there but Jeremiah paid them no attention. No, his focus was on Algie for the time being, and he smiled warmly. "Then tell me?" he whispered, arms sliding around Algie's waist as he spun them towards the dance floor. Jeremiah tilted his head towards Algie's, their masks clinking together before he ducked down enough to press a kiss to the other's lips. If anything it seemed like Algie had found something out, something big, but they were together. That was enough for the time being.

Alg couldn't help his smile, fingers coming to confirm his mask was still secure after their kiss. As they neared the edge of the dancefloor he chuckled and stopped his husband. "You've been in America too long," He was teasing obviously and pried Jeremiah's hands slowly from his waist, "This is a ball not a prom." The professor straightened, took one of his husband's hands and pulled him close at the waist. He smiled as he lifted his chin formally, "Our mothers would approve." "If only I could float you too, this would have been much more impressive," He began to lead the other in the dance. He hadn't told him what he needed to though. Way to distract him.

"I am aware but I happen to like holding you," Jeremiah laughed, pinching at the other man's sides briefly before his hands were removed. "At least until we start dancing." Not that he did not slip forward when he was pulled, nodding briefly in agreement that their mothers would approve. His hands settled on Algie, in the appropriate places, and adjusted his posture as he needed. "If you want, I could? Certainly not as naturally as you can but I could make myself float?" Jeremiah followed Algie's lead, moving around the Black Hall dance floor. iloveyouDIE they'll get back on target in a moment okay

"No," Alg's ears were a bit pink from the attention and he smiled genuinely, "I think it's proper we stay grounded... in this place." Alg's head moved a moment to the music before he led them into the dance with the rest of the couples. Fine fabrics drifted and swirled around them but Alg kept his eyes on Jeremiah. His smile faltered when he did finally remember and Algie's voice dropped more seriously, "I saw Mina. The girl who gave me my book."

Jeremiah paid little attention to anyone else in the Black Hall, trusting that his preternatural sense of danger would serve him here (even if Melany was a constant presence when they were within this room). Algie's smile faltering had him tilting his head to the side, glowing eyes blinking briefly. "Here?" his voice dropped as well, hand tightening on the other a moment. "Where?" It was hard to not remember Algie and the young girl who had given him his grimoire. The Mercer grimoire. It was still hard to understand why someone else would have had that book.

Alg leaned up a moment mid step, "The one in the jeweled mask. Who didn't speak." He was back on his heels again, looking to make sure Jeremiah knew who he was talking about. "I was able to understand her just fine at first.. then she pulled me aside for a conversation." They turned on the dancefloor and Alg, being careful, glanced for eavesdroppers.

"I wasn't able to quite catch her," Jeremiah admitted, not quite sure that he was alright with the fact that the girl who had given Algie his book was the one who seemed to not have a voice and served Melany. His glowing eyed gaze slipped around the crowd briefly before he pressed a little closer to Algie so that he speak quieter. It certainly made for a more intimate dance. "... it seems like you likely have a connection with her then," he said quietly. "What was it she wanted?"

Alg had that spike of anxiety again within himself, wondering the best order to deliver all the information. He squeezed his husband's hand, leaning again conspiratorially. "She's the Sorrowful One. Melany has taken her tongue and he court." He looked rather bothered by it, "The deer triplets used to be human it seems. She prefers to not forget where she came from."

That sudden spike of anxiety bled through for a moment, Jeremiah's fingers twining together with Algie's and squeezing reassuringly. His head was tilted towards the other, making it easier for him to speak quieter. What he said- "That-" Jeremiah let out a hiss of breath, the gears turning in his mind. "It certainly makes sense considering that it feels as if Melany was running things yet this is not her court ..." For a brief second his eyes darkened, the glow muted; more so when he closed them. "As well as the deer once being human. With everything else we know about how this place changes you." Kin not kind. "Though I wonder what has made her different; how she is able to remember but Pax does not ..."

"I'm not sure why she's different, but she is.." Alg didn't seem anymore relieved, in fact there was a whole different feeling from him now. Something hard to pin down but very close to a low level of upset. "I do know something. That doesn't explain anything but perhaps-" To make her different. "I asked her name. Remember she told me Mina was a nickname I'd always hated?" Alg sighed, not really sure how else to impart what he'd discovered in a smooth or casual way, so he leaned up again to whisper in his husband's ear, "Minerva Noelle Mercer."It seemed all at once to mean everything and nothing. He knew he'd described her to Jeremiah, her appearance and the rings she'd clutched so close to her chest. Her slight english accent and... he wasn't sure how it was even possible but she was obviously theirs - at the very least connected to them. The how and why would have to wait. "And I strongly suspect it's her writing, with mine, in the grimoire."

Minerva Noelle Mercer. The name settled and his mind spun and Jeremiah did remember description, the way Algie had said she had clutched a pair of rings. "I-" he started and then looked briefly around the hall without stopping himself. As if he could catch sight of her. Was she theirs? Family? Something swelled up and there was an immediate fury that blossomed that Melany had done something to her. That a Mercer was tied to the court, that this was her court. It made a demented sort of sense considering the family and their own ties to the court back in England. His head lowered and he whispered very quietly to Algie. "If you have some of her handwriting we can check later but ..." Jeremiah continued to follow the other as he lead them through the dance. "Remember how I said the name was familiar? I was looking through things and-" He let out a breath. "My great-grandmother was named Mina."

Alg sighed, closed his eyes, and didn't say anything else. He knew jeremiah would be angry about what happened to her, he was also, but he also wanted to respect her wishes about what should be done. He tried to sooth the other but it laced with his own uneasiness and concern and - god what if she was theirs.. Some other them. Some other time. The how and why and when weren't exactly important right now.. Sometimes he felt like they were playing through a sequel without ever having watched the original movie, clinging to plot points and grasping for meaning. Alg rested his head cheek against Jeremiah's shoulder, continuing the dance, but not knowing what else to say.

Jeremiah smiled crookedly, especially when he felt the warmth of the other man's hands and the way it was trying to soothe and calm. His head tilted against Algie's, resting there as they moved in step together without really thinking about it. It was simply ingrained. "We'll do whatever we can to help her," he said softly, a kiss pressed to silvering brown hair. Just the idea that she might be theirs, that she was tied to them, and now where she was ... Jeremiah felt it keenly that they were in far deeper than they had ever really imagined.
