Rory had let herself get swept up in all things that encompassed the end of summer; a final musical festival, shopping for school supplies, making sure her class schedule suited her needs, and prowling for good after school activities for college applications. This meant that her later night activities had slipped and she had yet to thank the nice lieutenant who had attended to her injuries before she'd gone home that night in the Dark Kingdom.
So, she'd reached out the only way she'd known how: via communication crystal.
It'd been a simple enough message, a polite request that the man accompany her on patrol with a location given. Upon agreement, Rory had made arrangements and slipped out her bedroom window, whose screen had been carefully removed and hidden, so she could make her way towards the designated meeting spot.
It was easy, once she felt like she was both far enough away and comfortably hidden to slip into the magical girl guise of Sailor Hydra and to pick up the backpack she'd set gingerly on the floor before heading to the bench on the corner of A St and 6th Ave. There, she sat and swung her legs back and forth, bag nestled on the space beside her and waited, teal eyes scanning the area around her for signs of her companion - or trouble.
Which ever found her first.

August wasn’t entirely sure if he should be surprised by the request to accompany another of General Aurostibite’s recruits on patrol, or if this was a normal thing and he just needed to get used to the idea of not always doing things on his own.
He had agreed without much reservation, knowing that the young woman probably just wanted the company, and their connection to the General that had recruited them was there was well.
He was lucky that this was one of the few nights he had off, although being on call at the hospital meant that his patrols were often cut short, so if he had someone with him, they could at least vouch for his participation.
Bloodstone tried to hide the tiredness in his eyes as he reached the location she had suggested they meet, glancing the teenager over once to make sure she was uninjured, before nodding his head in greeting.
“It’s been a while. I hope you’re well,” he said as he approached the girl sitting on the bench, short enough to swing her legs. Much shorter than his six foot height.

She felt him before she saw him, the sensation of his aura creeping into the edges of her awareness before she felt it completely. It was a subtle thing, something she was still getting a feel for but at the same time - the dark curl of something smoking on the edges of her senses was exhilarating.
It reminded of everything magic had to offer her, them, and everything she had to offer in return.
Hydra smiled warmly at the older, and much taller, man as he came to stand beside her. "Well enough," she agreed, scooting forward enough so that the balls of her feet would touch the ground if she tried. "I - " she stopped, chewed on her lip before glancing at her bag.
"I wanted to thank you? For all the help and care you gave me after we brought back the crystal." Small gloved fingers reached for the zipper of the bag's front pocket. "I hope you're not allergic to anything?" Hydra looked a little nervous, a slight blush tinging her cheeks barely hidden in the dimmer lighting.
"I guess I probably should've found out before..."

Bloodstone watched the young woman curiously, trying to understand her expressions, or why she seemed a little nervous or uncertain. They were allies, so he hoped she wasn’t too needlessly wary of him, although he’d been told before that people tended to shy away from him because he never smiled.
But soon he realized her hesitation came from something completely different. She was thanking him and he was staring in surprise. It was, admittedly rare that anyone sought to thank him long after the fact. Sure, patients may thank him in the moment, but wouldn’t usually continue thinking about it for long.
“I’m not allergic to anything that I am aware,” he reassured her, watching with increased curiosity as she unzipped her bag’s front pocket. Some kind of food offering, perhaps? He could only assume so since she’d asked him about his possible allergies. It was a kind offer, and added to his list of things he was not used to.
“I appreciate the gesture, but there’s no need to thank me,” he said quietly with a small shake of his head. “It was no trouble, and I was glad you weren’t injured more than you were.”

She felt silly, like every inch the teenage girl she clearly was while she looked up at him. It didn't help that physically, she was so much smaller than he was. Her five feet and three inches paled to his six feet and more, but relief flooded her face when he assured her he wasn't allergic.
"Oh good," she breathed, shoulders relaxing before she'd reached in her bag and produced a small ziplock with chocolate chip cookies and offering it to him tentatively. "I made cookies to say thanks, they're nothing uh special but I've been told they're pretty good?"
It was the same recipe she used when there were bake sales for fundraisers and they always sold well enough.
Her other hand reached to tuck loose locks of hair behind an ear. "I know but - " Hydra liked to show her appreciation. "No one's ever looked out for me like that since my mom died." Pops tried, certainly, but he was spread too thin to properly look after his daughter and, really, she mostly looked after him.
"If you don't like chocolate, I'll make something else next time." Her options were limited, but she'd figure it out. Wasn't that what the internet was for? "And, uh, thanks for meeting me. I'm sure you're pretty busy." He was an adult, adults had jobs and lives outside of helping a kid out. "Doing doctorly things."

The cookies were a surprise, and he instinctively held out his hand to take the offered bag, staring at them for a few moments, before looking up to stare at the young woman. He wasn’t used to being thanked, much less being given gifts. For the most part, he didn’t think he’d done anything to deserve the gesture. He was only doing his job, and she was an ally.
“Thank you,” he said, and although he didn’t smile, his expression wasn’t quite as severe as it usually was when he was calculating the situation around them, or planning the best route of attack.
He still wasn’t sure what his place was in this Negaverse or in this war, but at least he felt as though he was doing something useful, if her gesture was any indication. If anything, he was just doing it because there was nothing else for him, but that was not a conversation he planned on ever having.
“Chocolate chip is fine. It’s been a while since I’ve had cookies. Usually it’s just coffee and frozen dinners,” he admitted, although why he shared that about himself he wasn’t sure. It had him pausing for a few moments and he shook his head at himself. “Let me know if you need me for anything,” he said, not wanting to keep her for too long. He was sure they were both busy.

She didn't know how to react to his lack of smile, but she didn't let it keep her from smiling at him anyway. Despite her youth, she had a lot of practice with people who didn't respond as emotionally available as Bloodstone seemed to be and there were few things that couldn't adapt to.
Going with the flow was easy.
"That doesn't sound like anything that's very substantial." Hydra replied, choosing not to go, sounds like what pops would eat if I didn't make him meals. Comparing a teammate to her dad didn't seem like the best idea, even if it was on the forefront of her mind. 'Um - well actually," she started, glancing down to compose herself before she asked.
"I was wondering if you'd uh patrol with me? I mean if you can't tonight that's fine, I just - I don't like going by myself and, uh, I just could use a buddy like once a week?" She admitted, glancing up at him, chin tipping so she could meet his eyes. Plus, if she had a patrol buddy, maybe she wouldn't fall so behind on her 'duties', not that she was completely sure what they all were after talking to Reinterite. "I'll bring snacks and stuff, so you don't have to just eat frozen dinners all the time."

Bloodstone paused as if to assess the girl once more, the expression on his face still unchanging even as she said things like how she could use a buddy. Was that what she thought of him? Or perhaps wanted to think of him? While it was not necessarily a bad thing he did wonder how quickly she would become disappointed in him and his company.
“Very well,” he quietly agreed, although he couldn’t imagine what she expected to get out being around him. He supposed having a partner for patrols wouldn’t be horrible, just as long as she didn’t expect much from him.
“My schedule varies depending on when I’m on call. Next week at this time should be available,” he explained, knowing that things could change depending on what happened at the hospital, but it was better to have a plan in place than not.

Hydra wasn't expecting anything, not really, because she didn't know what to expect. Mostly, she wanted someone sorta on her side to go out with her at night and keep her from feeling alone. It was strange, really, because the negaverse was made up of so many and Auro had been welcoming but he had so many to tend to and she hated being a bother.
At least this way, she partner with someone on her level and maybe feel a little more useful.
Besides, Bloodstone hadn't looked at her differently, like the others, because of the crack in her chest and forehead.
"Really?" Her face lit up with delight, a warm smile on her mouth and she seemed to have an extra bounce in her step. "Yeah, that's okay. I can work around your schedule!" Or would try anyway. "I've got volunteer stuff, but it'd probably be over by the time you finish anyway. Um," she hesitated, wondering how kosher it would be for her to give him her number and if he'd use it.
"I should give you my number. I don't really," she quieted trying not to fret too much about the fact that her phone was very basic and couldn't do a ton. "Texts are better than phone calls, but that'd probably work better for you too?"

Exchanging numbers was a standard part of keeping in contact, he reminded himself when she offered hers. There didn’t seem to be anyone around. He would have noticed by now. They had been talking to each other for a good while without any interruptions. Still, it was good to make sure they were away from prying eyes before doing anything risky.
After a quick assessment of the area, and making sure there weren’t any places that someone could be spying on them from, Bloodstone set the bag of cookies on the ground and quietly let the energy around him fall away so that all that was left was a man who probably looked older than he actually was, with dark grey hair and wearing dark slacks and a white button down shirt.
He didn’t carry a phone or his pager with him while powered up, so the only way he could save her number, other than memorizing it or getting it from the Negaverse’s database, was to power down.
“August,” he said quietly, in case she didn’t already know his name. With how many people he’d met, he didn’t remember very well who knew him and who didn’t. “De Rais,” he added, realizing she might need a last name for her contact. Besides, it was good that she knew what he looked like as a civilian in case she needed medical assistance.
He reached down to pick up the cookies and pulled his phone from his pocket, holding it out to her so she could enter in her information.

She hadn't expected him to power down and surprise showed in her face as she looked at him with wide eyes. They were in the open! What if -
She shook her head, dismissing the thoughts. Surely he was certain about his decision to power down and they were safe where they were, for now anyway. Hydra trusted his gesture because she didn't think him to be someone who was overtly reckless.
She didn't get a chance to do the same because he was offering her his phone and she entered her number in carefully, face skewed with concentration. Double checking her work, she hit call and ended it right after it connected, knowing she wouldn't get it until she powered down anyway.
Offering it back, she took a deep breath and let the magic shed away. When she looked up at him this time, her hair was half it's length, in a braid that fell across her shoulder. "Aurora, or Rory, Willows." She offered in return, beaming brightly at him.
Something about having another person that knew who she was beneath the guise of Hydra, one that was an ally anyway, was comforting.
She fished her phone, a basic and old flip phone that was clearly a disposable one, and saved his number, pausing as she got to his last name. "Would you spell it? I don't wanna get it wrong." She looked up earnestly. "Oh, and you should tell me if you have an preferred tastes, for snacks and things?"
Already, little Rory was planning for whenever they'd get to patrol.

August took the phone back from her once she was done entering in her contact information, and then watched as she powered down as well. He’d never seen what happened when a corrupted senshi powered down, but he supposed he shouldn’t be too surprised that her hair shortened in length. It must be difficult to carry the extra weight as it was.
“It’s nice to meet you, Aurora. Unless you prefer Rory?” he wondered, although he didn’t return the bright expression she offered him, his face the same as it had been, although there might have been a bit of added curiosity to it. Part of him wondered if she was offended by his lack of outward emotion, but if they were to work together, she would realize that was just who he was soon enough.
“D-e space r-a-i-s,” he told her as she typed in his last name, and then shook his head when she asked about his preferences. “I have none. I don’t eat a lot of snacks, so I wouldn’t know what I’d prefer or not,” he admitted, wondering if that was strange to her.
It was almost sweet, the way she was planning ahead, and for him, a man she barely even knew, but one that was obviously going to be her ally.
“If you ever end up at the hospital with injuries, ask for me. I’ll do what I can if I’m available,” he told her, knowing it was important for them to all use their resources when they could.

Rory still had no idea how the magical hair growth thing worked, except that it was annoying because she already had pretty long, thick hair. Her head always felt so much lighter after she powered down. "Rory's fine! If you called me Aurora I might worry that I'm in trouble," she tried to tease, laughing a little after as she reviewed the information, saved it, and tucked her phone away again.
While she wished that he would smile back at her, the teen tried not to take it personally, August had already been very nice to her and she believed him when he said it was nice to meet her. Not everyone emoted like she would and she had to accept that.
Besides, maybe she'd earn a smile later. Then it would be a real treat!
"Oh, okay," she pushed her tongue against her cheek in thought. "But no allergies, okay." Her body rocked as she nodded, already compiling a mental list of things that she could bring for next time. "It'll be a learning experience. Like a game maybe." That sounded kinda fun, trying things until they figured out what he might prefer over others.
At his suggestion she nodded, "mkay!" Rory hardly ever went to the hospital, even when she was sick, because she hated worrying Pops, but having a contact of sorts was nice. "Just the main one right? Or do you work over at some of the clinics?"

”The main one for now,” he said as he watched her and her mannerisms. She was young, but she also seemed intelligent and capable. Naturally Aurostibite would want her as one of his recruits. She added some depth to the people who surrounded the General. Bloodstone himself was rather bland when it came to his personality, preferring to keep everything to himself, but Hydra, or rather Rory, seemed to be a good contrast in order to keep everyone on their toes and morale boosted.
“I work in the trauma ward. So if anyone ends up at the hospital I’ll probably be the one they see, anyway,” he explained, although he knew it was never the best of circumstances for someone to see him. If all else failed, he knew there were others in the Negaverse who worked there.
“It’s getting late. You have school, do you not?” he asked, although he hated that he might sound like someone who didn’t think she could handle herself and decide when she was able to go out and when she wasn’t. But as someone who had focused the majority of his life on school, he couldn’t help it.

Rory was nodding, looking up was August with her attention almost solely on him, brow crinkling as she made yet another mental note that she'd likely jot down later so she wouldn't forget. "Well, I'll do my best to never give you a reason to see me there without warning," she said firmly, expression skewing into one of determination when she nodded at him.
The teen hadn't been keeping track of the time as well as she would have if her father had been working days, but he was on the night shift and she immediately looked at the worn, cheap watch on her wrist to check the time.
Crap. August was right, she had school.
"Right." Rory couldn't help the dejectedness in her voice. "Better go I guess." She stepped towards him, then hesitated, shaking her head because she'd thought twice about and stepped back. Instead, she offered him a bright smile. "I'm really happy you're gonna accompany me," she said warming, lifting her hand to wave goodbye.
"Stay safe for me!" She chirped, spinning on her heel so she could head off.guine we can wrap with your post and I'd love another between them whenever~
