█ BACKGROUND
Once upon a time, there was a king. He lived in a hall made of gold and bright
jewels, and every day devoted his time to the acquisition of more. His court
was made of lovely paper dolls, and his royal family was a host of beautiful
puppets made of the finest materials. But what he really wanted, more than
anything in the world, was a son-- a real child, made of flesh and blood and
thought, to whom he could pass on his name. Many years passed, and the
king's deep longing grew until it was an obsessive need, for he was lonely in
his castle of dolls. So that when the promised prince was finally born--
breaking the porcelain queen into fine white powder-- he was kept in a padded
coffin for fear that he might fall and shed his precious blood. As he grew, the
prince graduated to golden cages and barred palanquins, and the king's visits
to his son were often and many. But for all his greatness and all his riches, the
king was unaware that he, himself, was no better than his subjects. He was a
paper man on a paper throne, and the prince couldn't be kept chained by
something so feeble. The little prince knew things others didn't know-- and
many things that they did-- and could do things others couldn't do. He was
real, and it was his right and his gift to fold the paper dolls into new shapes for
his amusement. So it was in this way that he became the prince that no one
remembers.
Be advised: once you read the spoilers below, they cannot be unread.
He was born Jonathan St Jude, seventh son of John St Jude, and his mother
died in having him, but no one minded. It was a small price to pay to get what
the family patriarch had always wanted. And little Jon really was the favored
son-- protected and coddled and spoiled, treated like an animal in a zoo. It
would have been fine if the boy was ignorant, but he wasn't. He knew things.
He saw things. His powers came on him so early and so strong that they
strangled any capacity for empathy or compassion, and almost before he
could walk he was flipping the script. Not a prisoner or a golden god, no,
Jonathan St Jude didn't exist. Adelaide died and the baby went with her--a
little girl, Joanna, and how sad that was-- and the little boy was cousin
Timothy's boy, Isaac. Didn't everyone remember?
Of course they did. They held him in their arms and touched his warm cheeks
and he leeched the memories from them, substituted others, made of himself
a ghostly thing that they could perceive only through the lenses he'd chosen.
He lived in the compound for years, trading parents and siblings whenever the
old set grew tiresome or annoyed him with attempts at discipline. Did they
really think they could control Jon? With what? Their fire or their lightning?
That was just adorable. Nice try. They didn't even know what they were
dealing with. All they thought, all they felt, was subject to his whim and his
mercy-- or lack of it.
After all, Jon was the only real person in the world. And he didn't need any
Blue Fairy to make him that way. The only one who even approached his level
of existence was a disappointment who wouldn't use a tenth of her power.
That was why Jon despised Nhu Linh. Not because the whispers she sent into
his brain were the closest thing he had ever experienced to fear. Not because
she knew he was there, knew what he was doing, and could have exposed all
of his little games-- but didn't, holding the ax over his head for years. No, it
was only her lack of vision, and he would have pitied her for it if he knew how
to do such a ridiculous thing.
In fact, the only fairy Jon ever had any use for was Noel Fenwick. Over the
years, meeting at party after party, the seventh son would introduce himself
anew. Ah yes, a pleasure, have we met? My name is Simon. My name is
Jacob. My name is Taylor. And it was a good game to play, really, because the
fairy would become so confused to see him arrive with a different set of
parents, a different appellation.
Because, you see. Noel is the only one who gets to remember.
My name is Jon.
█ ABILTIES
▬ TOUCH TELEPATHY
While Jon can send his thoughts fairly effortlessly, it should be noted that
he has a hard time picking up the full inner monologue of others without being
in physical contact with them. Without touching, he can get a 'gist', but not the
exact train of thought. The more contact, the more he hears, more exactly. It
may well be because he doesn't actually prioritize connecting with people that
this power is so rusty when his others are so sharp.
▬ ILLUSORY SELF
While maintaining contact with another person, Jon can tamper with their per-
ceptions, making them see and hear him through the filter of someone that
they know. Meaning that if you want to see your dear sweet Nana, that's who
Jon will look and sound like. This ability is one he honed after Yuno tried to
bite his ******** face off. As it turns out, people are less likely to let a scarred,
scruffy stranger hang all over them than, say, a person that they see as
someone they know and trust.
▬ THE KISS OFF
Jon is capable of burying, erasing, or editing the memories of others. How-
ever, he must start with the most recent memories and work his way back-
ward, and it requires maintaining physical contact. If that contact is broken pre-
maturely, the wipe may be incomplete or memories may resurface later. The
result is that he typically uses this power to erase himself from the memories
of others-- sometimes while they are restrained, but more often during a long
kiss or.. other physical activity.
▬ EIDETIC MEMORY
Jon does not consider himself a liar. He views what he does as world-crafting,
and his memory comes in extremely handy when it comes to remembering
who he has told what, as well as whom he has twisted to fit what end. In any
case, you can't lie to dolls, which is how he views most-- if not all-- people. It
isn't clear whether this is a psychic ability, but that is likely the case.
▬ SKILL SIPHON
With prolonged contact, Jon can take on knowledge-based skills from others.
This means that while he cannot learn any physical or racially based abilities,
he can duplicate a wealth of knowledge when necessary (speaking languages
in which he is not technically fluent, for example). Unfortunately, even his mind
isn't limitless-- he can only take on three skills at a time, and only to the level
of experience the source has. If he siphons from someone who only speaks
garbled German, he won't be able to make up the gaps.
█ EXTRA
Jon's voice is Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman, although he can sometimes
slip into Alexander Skarsgard as "Father/Nurturer" in The Giver when it benefits him to.
Jon's very best frenemy is Noel Fenwick-- incidentally the only person that has known
Jon more than a few months without being brainwiped.
Jon is the psychic mage who wiped Yuno Avasaad's memory, and inflicted at least
a year's worth of mental and physical trauma.
Jon's ability to tamper with minds has a harder time working on creatures that are highly
instinctive (like ghouls and werewolves), and as a result requires longer periods of contact.
