School was starting in a few days time, summer vacation was almost over, and she knew the girls that lived at the academy were no doubt in various states of moving back in. As a student accepted on a music scholarship she couldn’t really afford the hike in tuition to live on campus. Not to mention the amount of noise the other students often made up until the last minutes before curfew hit, it made her Chromesthesia kind of go haywire.
While girls were moving in Ava had shown up to get her schedule and supplies for each of her classes. Thankfully her new uniform arrived in time since wearing last years was not quite an option since the old one was worn along the seams.
Walking down the hall toward the guidance office she was glad for the empty halls, save for the few random people she encountered chit chatting about their summer vacations. Smiling she passing by the students with a nod of her head in a silent hellp as she made her way towards the main office.
The secretary was a sweet lady, kind, welcoming and never without a smile.
“Hello,” Ava smiled politely “I’m here to pick up my class schedule.”
“Oh? It should have been mailed to your house.” Mrs. Matheus brows furrowed somewhat confused.
“I know,” Ava tried explaining “I’ve kept an eye out for it but we haven’t received any mail from the school.” She was patient in explaining to the women who soon seemed sympathetic and had no problem in printing it up once she showed her student ID card.
In the minutes that followed while the secretary looked up her information on the computer, the soft clicking sound of the second hand on the clock flashed a soft blue color in Ava’s pherpials.
“Ah, here you are…” A few more mouse clicks and within moments the printers was warming up and spitting out her schedule on warm pieces of paper. As the women got up, her heels clicked against the tile floor giving off a similar blue color that the clock gave off. Alone in the main entry Ava glanced around the otherwise silent room noting that, aside from the calendar on the cubical wall, not much had changed since school had let out for the summer three months ago.
When the women returned, holding the paper out, “Ok. Make sure you keep these in a safe place so you’re not late on your first day. The class material list is on the last page; just make sure you have everything with you and all will be well.” If Ava didn’t know any better she sould have assumed that Mrs. Matheus thought she was a Freshman not a Senior.
Oh well… Either way Ava accepted the documents graciously however she did not miss the pointed reminder on not losing the paperwork and briefly wondered if Mrs Matheus thought she had misplaced her schedule or done something else to it rather than the maleman losing it.
In truth it kind of offended her to a degree because she prided herself in not being like most people her age; she was responsible, she had to be considering she actually wanted to attend this school and had worked hard to earn her scholarship. There really was no room to slack otherwise she’d be kicked out in a heartbeat; such was the case when you didn’t come from a family as wealthy as the majority of the student population.
None the less she took her schedule with a soft spoken thank you before exiting the office. Already she was looking down, eyes skimming over the information, as she memorized her daily schedule while walked down the near empty hallway. At least there was one teacher she was going to enjoy having and none from the mental list of those she wished to avoid. Overall it wasn’t bad line up.
Folding the sheet of paper mindful of where the folds would land so they didn’t cover any of the print, Ava made a turn as she headed the exit near the east parking lot where her mother waited while reading a book. The day was not over yet, she still had other things to do and didn’t wish to run into any of the other students while she made her otherwise silent escape towards her last few days of freedom.
One errand checked off her to-do list. Next up, shopping for school supplies.
