Shun found it odd when he heard Jeremiah had to take medical leave. He hadn't gotten many details, but he could only guess that the older detective had fallen ill or something to that degree, as any injuries gotten while on the field probably would have murmurs within the workforce. A part of him did wonder though... Given his recent trip to Other Ashdown's theater, he figured that it was entirely possible Jeremiah had been wounded or something as a result of an encounter with the supernatural. In any case, he decided to drop by the man's home to check up on him. He had even gone out of his way to make some cookies (people usually brought gifts for this sort of thing right?). They were basic chocolate chip cookies, with one slightly abnormal detail. They were square shaped. As Shun had filled the entire damn pan with cookie dough, then cut it up afterwards in an attempt to keep things as efficient as possible. Oh. He did bring some looseleaf oolong as well. With the 'get well package' in hand (he hoped this wasn't weird), he knocked lightly on Mercer's door, then waited.

The detective lieutenant was actually dozing when he heard the knock on the door. He had moved himself into the living room not that long ago, having worked up the energy to move out of the bedroom. Jeremiah, not quite sure who it could be, pushed himself up with a quiet hiss of breath and went to get the door. When it was opened Shun was greeted with what was probably the most rumpled, somewhat disheveled looking Jeremiah he had ever seen. "Kuroda?" he spoke, voice still a touch hoarse. Jeremiah blinked, not quite having expected him. A quick glance down and he saw the 'get well package' and then let out a small huff of breath. "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised you dropped by. Come in," he said a moment later, holding the door open for him. Shoes were best left by the door, if the nook of them was anything to go by.

When Jeremiah answered the door rather disheveled, Shun just stared for a moment, not expecting to see the man in such a state. "Mercer," he greeted with a nod. He stepped into the house once invited, taking a look around to get a feel of the place. Once he spotted the little nook of shoes, he went ahead to remove his. "Figured I would check up on you after hearing about your medical leave. Is everything alright?" he asked before glancing down at the small package in hand. He awkwardly offered it out to Jeremiah to take.

Jeremiah's house was nice, which did include a wraparound veranda that was, in some places, taken over by the garden that he took care of. It was clear that he had invested time into keeping it up and it was a stark contrast to see him so disheveled when this was a man who did not do things by halves. Taking the small package, the silver-haired man gave Shun a polite nod. "Thank you. Come this way and have a seat ..." The other man wasn't lead far, just through an open archway to the right that lead to the living room. A couch was there along with a coffee table but next to the bay window that faced the front yard that was a grand piano and it was clearly the focus piece of the room. Besides the floor to ceiling bookcases. Someone had a reading problem. Someones in fact. Not that any names needed to be mentioned. A gesture was made for Shun to have a seat, Jeremiah setting the care package down on the coffee table and then plucking up what looked like a long loaf of a large white cat with small violets behind her ears off of the couch. She was, apparently, sleeping on top of Hellbine who looked entirely nonplussed about about it. He was more than used to it. "As for the answer to your question ... Everything is as alright as it can be given the circumstances we are in." Violetta was carried, along with her brother, to lay in the bay window before Jeremiah turned his attention back to Shun. "I, however, am not fit at the moment to be working, let alone leaving the house for extended periods of time."

Shun followed Jeremiah through his home, to the living room that wasn't too far off. The house seemed rather nice. Well kept, though he wouldn't have expected any less from the man. The bookcases did catch his attention, but given that the man's husband was an author who ran a bookstore called the "Bibliophile"... that was probably to be expected as well. Once he saw the gesture, he went ahead and seated himself, tilting his head as he saw Mercer move the cats, only one that he recognized. "You appear to be relatively healthy. Might I inquire what happened?" he asked, looking Mercer over again. Disheveled he might be, he didn't look like he was particularly ill.

Jeremiah stood for a moment, not sitting quite yet. "Do you want a glass of water or anything, Kuroda? I need to refresh my own." It was not actually water but a brew of cold tea that Eve had left with him. It certainly helped with his throat and, oddly enough, helped with the pinpricks of pain that sometimes flared up along his back because of the chill. "Outwardly, yes, I am fine." His shoulders rolled, forever trying to stretch away pain that never quite left. "My mind, on the other hand, is not. I cashed in a favor with one of the residents of other ashdown for knowledge. The manner in which I received it did not agree with me."

Tilting his head up at Jeremiah, Shun replied, "Oh. Ah... water or tea would be fine."He nodded once, then soon furrowed his brow. So it did have something to do with the Other side, as he suspected. Though, it wasn't necessarily an attack from the sounds of it. The way Mercer had stated it only brought up further questions. What sort of knowledge, and what exactly happened to his mind? "Care to explain?"

"A moment," Jeremiah said as he turned to fetch the tea tray that was almost always at the ready (especially with him being stuck at the house). He returned a moment later and set it down on the table, his own drink was cold. Nothing warm for him for sometime still. A gesture was made for Shun to prepare his tea how he liked it (it was a strong black tea in the pot) and then Jeremiah was sitting back down on the couch. "Throughout the day, periodically, I am having seizures and fainting spells." The bone ring, the one on his pinky, was spun idly. "No warning, they just happen. For me, when I experience one, I am locked in a vision - a dream - but apparently that is not what it looks like from the outside."

Shun waited patiently while Jeremiah fetched the tea tray. Once it was set onto the table, he leaned forward and poured out a cup for himself. He didn't put any cream or sugar into it. The younger detective sat back into his chair with his cup in hand. While he listened to that, he just furrowed his row. "s**t... how long do you think they will continue to afflict you like that? And what sort of visions?" he asked. It sounded like something from TV, really. Seers that practically have a seizure while they receive their visions of the future or whatever. As much as he hates the man, a small part of him wishes he could have earned his father's approval as a child. Perhaps, even now.He took a careful sip of the tea, unaware to the ring's shenanigans.

Jeremiah took a sip of tea with a quiet sigh, pleased when it hit the back of his throat and eased the residual soreness. At least he did not sound so much like his throat had been torched. It took him a moment to respond, blue-green eyes cutting briefly to the side as he heard the familiar voice whisper at his ear. As much as he hates the man, a small part of him wishes he could have earned his father's approval as a child. Perhaps, even now.The detective lieutenant was still not used to it, the whisper of the ring, and it left him feeling as if someone has walked across his grave. Goosebumps rose along the skin of his forearms and he let out a breath. He still was not even sure what triggered it and he certainly had not been trying actively to use it. "To be frank I have no idea. They occur without warning and frequently throughout the day." Jeremiah finally spoke again with a sigh, taking another drink a moment later. The cup was set down on the table and he rubbed a hand against the side of his neck briefly. "As for the visions ... I requested knowledge and they are that knowledge. Specifically tied to our foe." The Enemy. "It's a jumbled mess in most cases but there are a few things that stand out."

Shun had not notice the mild reaction Jeremiah had to the ring and its secrets. Even if he did, he would have just passed it off as a small side effect of his current condition. "That sounds incredibly inconvenient," he stated dryly. But he didn't really expect something like that to ever come at a good time. He could certainly see why the older man had opted to take medical leave for the time being. The fact that most of it was apparently incoherent didn't come off as too much of a surprise either. If the knowledge was seizure inducing, it could very well be stuff that the human mind couldn't easily comprehend. "...What might those be?" he slowly asked. He was prepared to hear things he wouldn't like.

"Ascension Shore, for one," Jeremiah replied immediately, leaning to pick up his notebook. There were notes written down in it, in a neat tidy script that was not his usual unreadable short hand scrawl. Ink sketches lined the margins, other places blots where he had clearly tried to make a reference to whatever it had been he had seen. He ran a finger down the page. "The town is another. I do not mean the other one but this one."

Eyeing the notebook, Shun furrowed his brow. "I suppose it would make sense for you to see Ashdown. This place does seem pretty well tied to the enemy and its cage, considering everything. But... Ascension? Sunny?"He wasn't really sure what role she had in all of this.

"Sunny Shore, yes." Jeremiah tilted his head towards Shun before he sighed. "You don't know much about her, do you?"

Shun slowly shook his head. "I know she has been around for a very long time, and that she is relatively popular with the people here. I do not know much else about her," he admitted. She might have had some sort of precognitive ability, but he wasn't certain of it.
