I'm feeling: Terrified, Violated | I'm with: No One | I have: $700EC
Long story short, the ride back to Ethe was painful, nearly unbearable as she felt the pain that pierced her body whenever her horse would take a step. Her features were pale, her eyes were bloodshot and her lips were swollen. She felt disgusting, she felt dirtied with the marks that was left on her body, the marks that so very well declared her downfall as a queen. She gritted her teeth as she started sobbing against her horse. It would stop and give her a small 'neigh' as if to ask if she was alright. The queen then caressed its main with her quivering fingers as she wiped away the tears with her free hand. No. She musn't crumble. Not in the open. Not yet, at least. Her people needed her: the sick, the poor, the needy. She can't abandon them now, especially not if what remains of Ethe would fall into the hands of Azazel. What would become of her people then? Enslaved? Forced to hard labour? She wouldn't allow such things to befall upon them, not when she's still breathing, and she'd do anything that waa requested so long their safety was guaranteed. The people that trusted her, the kingdom the royal family built with their very hands. Because what is a kingdom if it does not value the well-being of its people. Foolish, some might call her but the queen knew full-well she had made the right decision. It was what she had to do as their ruler, what she had to sacrifice. With a small pat against her horse's neck, she signalled it to continue moving once more as they slowly made their way to the roy abode, the place that houses the few surviving people who worked at the castle. She had to return, take a glimpse of her country before she'd be forced into the emperor's chambers again tonight. To carry his sons? Her features tensed up and her shoulders shook uncontrollably.
It didn't take long until they'd reach the entrance to her abode but instead of standing still, her horse would gallop off when the queen struggled to get down from its back, as if it was startled by those lurking within the bushes. As if she wasn't hurt enough, her body would heavily slam against the ground, a soft cry of pain escaping her lips as the numbing pain spread through her body. Her legs gave away, feeling weak to the knees. Her body was sore and it'd hurt by moving just ever so slightly. "Cassius-! Don't-.." she called out and her pair of mismatched eyes would stare into the distance as the figure of her white horse would disappear. It was running to the stables, it seems. Was her horse always this badly trained? Then again, the queen would always pick a horse that felt similar to her so it was no surprise when it turned out to be a stubborn one. Alone in the open, Ophelia slowly pushed herself up as she sat motionlessly on the concrete ground and gaze at the ruined castles that once stood tall in the high grounds. Her king, her daughter who'd just be ever so rebellious every now and then. Her eyes would brim with tears once again as images of her once peaceful kingdom flashed through her mind. With that, she'd bury her face in her hands as her shoulders started to tremble from fear and grief, whimpering over what had happened. What was about to come. She felt weak, helpless. It was a battle she fought alone and a losing battle is was. Who was she to fight against the emperor? She'd be tossed aside without breaking a single sweat.

As he stood restlessly at the front, his eyes darted to the surrounding skies. One hand was gripping the hilt of his katana tightly, as if something might suddenly sail through and attack. However, ever since the eruption, Kaede was constantly jumpy. He did not not have air of a leader. He was a follower at best. He hated it. He hated being in command of Ethe's guards. He hated when people looked at him for guidance. It shouldn't have been him. It should have been Ian. It should have been Soren. Kaede sighed and only glanced up when a fellow guard said the Queen was seen riding back through the gates. Having heard the news, Kaede decided he would have to speak to the Queen about the current situation.
What he did not expect was the brilliant, familiar stallion charging through the camp with the Queen still on his back. Kaede was at lost with words as he tried to keep up with the stallion, but in the long run, a horse traveled much faster than on foot. By the time Kaede had caught up on foot to the entrance of the royal abode, he found the Queen on the ground. Just from arriving, he could tell that the horse must have thrown the Queen off and charged off, the rather crazy animal it was. He approached and stood off for a second. Kaede was not exactly close to the Queen, he had always served under her. However, his experience mostly was training new recruits. Ever since the eruption, he had seen her more and spoke to her. However, like the Queen, Kaede's emotions were strung with grief and suffering. Instead the Captain had kept his emotions behind a mask and kept everything at bay. He had to be someone of strength to keep the people safe; He could not afford to appear weak to her Majesty.
Finally, Kaede walked up and bent down eye level to the beautiful Queen. Of all the people, Kaede believed that she must be suffering the most. Her first duty was to the people, however, she was more. She was a mother, a wife, and a devoted person to all. She did not deserve any of this pain. "Your majesty." Kaede spoke softly, almost wanting to grasp her shoulder and trying to anchor her to the present, and not of the past. She must be thinking of her family again.. he thought sadly. His golden eyes flitted to her figure, checking for any wounds from her fall off the horse. While he couldn't see anything, he would have to have one of the ladies in waiting help her. "Your majesty, are you alright?" he repeated, his voice stronger this time. ✧ ║ ▌███████████████████ ▌║✧ ✧ OOC | Wow, way to smash my heart into a billion pieces. I cried reading your post. xxxxxxxxx

Though she may only have a child, a daughter at that, Ophelia never treated her less than she would a man. Everyone was an equal, whether it be a man or a woman. Gender doesn't determine the heir of the throne but the queen knew full-well her daughter was the same as her. She, too, didn't want to be trapped within the castle walls at one point until the realization of her heavy duty dawned upon her. It was only then, she paid gave her full attention to the kingdom. She had no complaints but even as she was reluctant to do so, she gave her all to the community. She treated them as her own, her family and for such a tragedy to befall upon them and what has yet to come, it hurts her heart so. "Your majesty." a voice emerged behind her and she'd lift her gaze. Majesty? She was no majesty. Her swollen eyes would meet a pair of golden orbs that belonged to a man with blue locks of hair. Sir Lorent. The queen quickly turned away when she was pulled back into reality by his following question, bringing her hands up to wipe the tears that stained her pale porcelain features. "Sir Lorent- how disgraceful of me-" the queen panicked ever so slightly as she struggled to push herself up, only to have them give up on her halfway. She remained seated on the ground as slight frustration surfaced upon her features. Instead of giving a curtsy as always, she'd lower her head to show her respect to her fellow guard. "I-.." was violated? Help me? What was she going to say? She couldn't plead for help, not to her people, not to anyone else. Not with an emperor that holds such power within his palm. Instead, she'd downcast her gaze and keep her swollen eyes well hidden from sight. "I'm fine, thank you for showing such concern." she held onto her robe, keeping it from revealing any marks that were scattered across her body.
Instead, she'd look at him as he scanned her body for any possible injuries, taking in his golden orbs, his blue locks and his pale features. He, too, had lost his loved ones to Mt. Adara's wrath, has he not? Yet he still remained here and served their queen. Ophelia wondered if it was what he really wanted to do or if it was something he felt obligated to do. She'd reach out and take his hand within the confinements of her fingers as she'd show concern for his well-being. She'd prefer to make it clear that he need not serve the country if he didn't want to, that formality was not needed. "Please, just address me by Ophelia. It's fine to drop the formalities with me." she paused, "What I'm more concerned at the moment isn't my well-being.. but yours. Are you alright? It must be hard for you to deal with so much at the moment so if you wish to leave your post as the captain, I fully understand. I wouldn't want you to push yourself too hard, sir Lorent."

xxxk a e d e xxxxxx l o r e n t ✧ Location | Royal Abode xx✧ Company | Queen Opheliaxx✧ Mood | Worried xx✧ Money | $245 EC Kaede felt incredibly guilty by her state of panic. It seemed like perhaps he should have not appeared. After all, grief was something that hung over every person's heads like a shadow. Company could by a friend or enemy. Sometimes, another person nearby could help anchor one to the present. At the same time, the person could also bring back the memories of past loved ones. It was like looking into a cracked mirror to Kaede. Every person in the kingdom suffered together, all those who survived still had the memories that destroyed their home. As Queen Ophelia gathered whatever pride and grace, Kaede then gave a gracious bow. "Disgraceful could not be the right word to describe you or the situation. We have all fallen down a horse before." Kaede reassured her. Her gaze then flitted away, but Kaede understood that she had been crying for a long time. After all, she was not the only person in the kingdom who spent hours on end crying. Sometimes, Kaede would fall asleep on a damp pillow because of the tears that spilled.
Then, she suddenly took his gloved hand, speaking in her soft voice. He lightly tilted his head when she said not to address her as Majesty. To Kaede, that was surprising. Kaede thought it would have been best to keep any relationship as normal as it was prior to ruin; Kaede thought it would let citizens have security that Ethe will still run as it always have despite the change in location and circumstances. "If it is what you wish, Ophelia. Then, I humbly request to be called only Kaede then." he answered, putting his other hand over his heart as a sign that he would follow the request. "Like me, the people are still shaken, but are healing. It appears that many more citizens have been moving towards the border between Ethe and Phobos." he reported, avoiding the topic about himself. Deep down, he knew he wanted to continue serving. He was one of the few guards left; Many have left for Phobos or passed away. Because of the eruption and ruin, many able-bodied citizens became much weaker due to the physical world, but also the spiritual world.
He simply felt it was too early for him to ever become the Captain of the Guard. Sir Soren has many more years where he could become the Captain. Ian also. But now they were gone forever from this world. Furthermore, Kaede knew if he did not continue to serve, then there would be nothing left to do. He couldn't imagine living without protecting the people. He could open a shop, but Kaede could not. He just couldn't. He could just imagine Ian smashing through his makeshift shop and dragging Kaede by the collar back to guarding. Just thinking that, Kaede noticed how she gripped her cloak tightly. Was she cold? It wasn't that cold, but with the weather, who knows? Kaede reached for the clip on his own cloak and put it over Ophelia's shoulders. A awkward silence issued between the two while Kaede tried to think of an explanation of the action. Finally, he spoke. "You.. looked cold." he said dumbly. ✧ ║ ▌███████████████████ ▌║✧ ✧ OOC | Not even kidding. I was tearing up and sniffling like crazy. xxxxxxxxx

I'm feeling: Terrified | I'm with: No One | I have: $700EC
Falling off a horse was not at all uncommon for the queen but at the moment, the slightest bit of push and Ophelia would feel as if she would shatter. She felt like a failure, as if she could accomplish nothing at all. It's a few hours away from the evening and soon, she'd have to return to Lionis, to the king's bed chambers. The thought of that would make Ophelia tremble in fear. Was the event that took place earlier not enough? How much humiliation is he intending to put her through before he'd get tired of her and cast her aside like his many wives. Without further complains, the queen would remain silent in the presence of the emperor and behave like an obedient puppet, like how she was taught to be since she was a little girl. "It's funny. I'd usually tell others that it'd be alright, that we'd get back up on our feet everytime we fall. But now.." she fell silent, gazing down upon her fingertips as she dusted off the dirt that stained her slender fingers. "Is it wrong for me to tell them such things? When I am unable to even get up myself..?" all she wanted to do was give her people something to believe in whether it be only a small strand of hope. No. She wanted to give herself something to believe in. Ophelia heaved a small sigh, her nose still sniffling from the discomfort.
"Formalities doesn't matter, not to me at least. I find it to be something that separates our status, something that makes people behave superior to those below them. I don't like that. I don't like being separated into categories. Everyone is equal. Everyone.." she quietly stated as her mind drifted to what the king had said earlier, how he treated them as pawns. It wasn't a world she wanted to live in, it wasn't the type of ruler she'd want for Lionis but it wasn't her place to decide. When the man requested for her to do the same, she only offered a forced smile. It wasn't because she was bothered by such request, it was because she was far too tired to offer a genuine one. She was exhausted both mentally and physically. Once the topic of her people was brought up, Ophelia's averted gaze would trail back to his. She hasn't been able to tend to the rest of her people since her attention was mostly focused on the sickly. They were in pain, some with their arm removed due to it being badly burned yet they still smiled whenever she paid them a visit. They'd still speak about their families to her, how they once were before the tragedy struck. Ophelia's heart mourned for them, especially when she recalled how their fingers quivered against her own. If the many lives and the well-being of her kingdom could be replaced with her own, she'd gladly do so. She was willing to sacrifice anything for those she cared about, the so called 'pawns' that she cared for like her children. She was willing to protect the smiles upon their faces.
I have spoken to the emperor earlier today. The guards would bring food to help the people and there would be people sent to recover our mines buried beneath. I hope the people would last until then. I worry about the well-being of those who retreated to Phobos.." Discrimination. Being looked down upon. That was the consequences they'd face for setting foot into the kingdom but it was also a place they could properly care for the many children of Ethe they brought along when they fled. Being separated from the family is a tough feeling and Ophelia understood that quite well. She wasn't even sure if their parents survived but Ophelia hoped they did. If not, the queen would take them in as her own. She will not allow any children to be left out, to grow up without the love of a parent. If so, she'd gladly play the role. The atmosphere fell silent and there was a small tension within the air. Her mind was blank and she felt awkward. She felt filthy just by being in the presence of another person. Her fingers tugged on her robe, feeling the after effect of the violation she experienced. She'd catch a slight movement out the corner of her eyes, and she'd catch a glimpse of him removing his cloak. Fear took over her features and she would back away ever so slightly. It wasn't him she was afraid of but rather, the actions he was doing. Please, don't. Don't remove anything. Her eyes squeezed shut as she brought her hands up against her chest in a defensive manner. She'd ask him to stay away but her voice was forced down her throat.
His hands brushed against her collar bone as they would gently tug against the fabric of her clothing. The cold air hit her skin as she'd tremble over the raven irises that'd scan her body.
Don't touch her. Don't lay a finger on her. A small gasp would escape her lips when she felt something.. covering her? Her eyes would slowly flutter open, sneaking cautious glance his way once she noticed his cloak was draped over her. Tears hung on the corner of her eyes, her expression appearing almost surprised. Kindness was what she had been offering others but being the one who's receiving it, the queen felt a little overwhelmed. She'd ease into the tension, her shoulders slumped from the discomfort that slowly faded from her being. Is it alright if she accepted his kindness? Was she worthy of it? She brushed the tears away, holding onto the cloak that draped over her shoulders. It felt warm. Very much different from the air within the Lionis castle. "..thank you, Kaede. This world would be a better place if people were as kind as you." she gave him a nod and her features would slowly soften into a genuine smile, one from the bottom of her heart. This was what she was holding on for, the kindness within the hearts of her people, this was why she was holding on. To protect them, their smile, their beautiful soul. After a long while, she'd straighten herself up and gaze at her surroundings. It wasn't wise for her to be in such an area looking like a horrible mess yet at the same time, she was unable to walk. Unless.. "Sir L-.. Kaede- would you mind helping me into the garden? It seems my legs aren't very.. cooperative today." she was only half honest about her situation. She wasn't feeling unhealthy, no. Her legs gave away from fear. The fear that Azazel left lingering within her fragile heart.

xxxk a e d e xxxxxx l o r e n t ✧ Location | Royal Abode xx✧ Company | Queen Opheliaxx✧ Mood | Worried xx✧ Money | $245 EC Kaede didn't quite understand the weight that the Queen was carrying. While he understood that the Queen did not want to appear disgraceful, it really was just a horse fall. He had seen plenty of people do that. "You should have more faith in yourself. Each person, but especially your people, understands that even you have limits. And like you have always extended your hand to them in their times of need, we will do the same." he replied. The small sigh made his heart ache. The queen should not have to suffer all this pressure alone. I have not been holding up as the captain; She need not to worry so much. he thought.
"The emperor?" he echoed, confused for a second. Was that why she was not seen at all for the day? Kaede did not know much of the emperor except for the rumors. Apparently, all the children were insane and the father was some disgusting man who had more wives than stars in the night sky. Not that Kaede disliked the man; Kaede just did not feel comfortable with all the rumors floating about. "That is a relief. Perhaps with his help, Ethe will be rebuilt faster than ever and those in Phobos will be comfortable enough to return." he replied. As he gave her his cloak, he noticed however as she raised her arms in a defensive manners, eyes shut and almost bringing tears.
At the gasp as she grasped the cloak, Kaede was suspicious. He knew he was not the most friendly face around, but to give such a reaction was beyond the usual circumstance. Did the Queen not trust him? What had he done? The uneasiness faded as she then thanked him, giving a gentle, shining smile. He wanted to ask, but it felt too.. personal. He didn't want to bring up any bad memories; Kaede's duty was to protect her and the people. If he were to make her suffer, Kaede would sooner commit seppunku- an ancient custom that warriors did as capital punishment upon themselves.
"I would not mind at all, your wish is my command." Kaede replied. He glanced over her once more, making sure she was still ok. Evidently, she could not walk since she was still on the ground. A piggy back would be a bit much, especially since it seemed her limbs were not answering her calls. "Well, excuse me then and I apologize if this is uncomfortable." He carefully gathered her in his arms, carrying her in the classical bridal carry. She was actually much lighter than he expected. She was not starving herself for the people, was she? Kaede focused on carrying her walking through the gates and into the garden. It was small, but enough for privacy if needed. He glanced around and glanced at Ophelia, pushing away the awkwardness if there was any. Kaede certainly fell uncomfortable like this. "Where would you like to sit, my la- Ophelia?" ✧ ║ ▌███████████████████ ▌║✧

I'm feeling: On guard, Tense | I'm with: Kaede Lorent | I have: $700EC
What she wanted most was for her people to feel safe. She didn't want them to feel any more threatened than they should be. The weight they have to shoulder among themselves were overwhelming and to add the emperor's threats after Mt. Adara's tragedy is too much for their plate to take in. However, throughout this whole time, there was a lingering question, one she couldn't bring herself to as. She wondered if she had ever made any mistakes when she's making decisions for her kingdom, she wondered if her decisions were right, if they had ever upset anyone at all. As tensed as she may be, her shoulder relaxed as soon as she heard Kaede's words. The queen was thankful, to be assured that her people were willing to do the same for her, even during the hardships they were put through."Can I ask you a question? Promise me you'll answer with utmost honesty. No sugarcoated words." she paused, "Were the people happy after I took over the kingdom? Were they ever upset over the selfish decision I made.. in thoughts that it would be the best for them? Am I.. a worthy ruler?" bullets of questions cane shooting through her lips the next time she spoke. It was a question that she has been pondering since her teenage years. It was a question she didn't dare ask, something that made her hesitate in her decisions. It was terrifying, how much she valued her people more than her own kin.
Ophelia jolted at the mention of the 'emperor' and her hands would clench against the fabric of his cloak. Yes. Ethe would indeed be rebuilt in no time, not withouy paying a price. Her body for this kingdom. It was a price worth paying, an offer worth taking. To protect her own body over the safety of her people, she couldn't imagine what kind of harm would befall them if she were to refuse the emperor any further. To bear a few children for him, awaiting the day she's finally cast aside. That would be the day she'd freely roam her grounds once more, the day she'd be able to break free from his grasp. She could only hope she can live to see that day. "I can only hope Mt. Adara wouldn't erupt any longer. At least not until many decades after. I can't bear to have everyone go through this tragedy once more. I can understand if they wish to stay in Phobos. T'is always better than to live in fear." she answered as she started to ease up around the guard. Ophelia was never the kind of person who'd approach a stranger. In fact, she was terrified of strangers. She didn't trust them and she couldn't bring herself to. Not after what happened many years back but Ophelia figured she could trust this man knelt before her. A man who so willingly served the country was one she deemed worthy to place her trust in without worry. He had something to him that looked kind. Was it his gestures? No. His eyes. Ophelia looked into his golden orbs. He has kind eyes. She held out her hand, assuming that was what he planned to do: help her up by her hand but little did she know, before she came to realize, she felt her body lift off the ground. "O-Oh my-..!" she exclaimed softly, caught by surprise. Mild numbing pain would sprout through her body when she felt herself move. The emperor wasn't exactly the gentlest person around. Ophelia held onto the cloak, covering herself up even further, in fear that it might reveal anything less pleasing for the eyes. She didn't want her people to worry about her well-being and she didn't want one of her guards to be too concerned either, seeing as to how much pain he was put through after losing his many comrades. Now, Ophelia had lost quite an amount of weight ever since the eruption and she had been saving as much food as she could for the few remaining people who worked for the castle, which means she had cut down the portion of her meal as much as she can. She only hoped it wasn't too obvious that she looked thinner than she once was. She would downcast her eyes, allowing her pale locks to cover up her slowly reddening features.
Her gaze soon trail towards her garden of flowers that bloomed beautifully. The faint fragrance that travelled into her senses soothed her nerves and she could feel her shoulders relax ever so slightly. "The bench near the white roses would do. I'm sorry for making you carry me all the way in. I didn't think you'd.. pick me up." she twiddled her thumbs, her gaze fixed on the pile of flowers before her. She initially wanted to be alone, cry until she was content but now that she came across one of her people, she felt that she couldn't. If anything, she wished for company, even if it's only for a short amount of time, she wanted to feel the presence of another. It made her feel less.. alone.
"Kaede." she called out, slight hesitance present within her voice. "Would you mind accompanying me for a little while? At least until the sun sets."

xxxk a e d e xxxxxx l o r e n t ✧ Location | Royal Abode xx✧ Company | Queen Opheliaxx✧ Mood | Worried xx✧ Money | $245 EC Something was wrong. But Kaede could not place the pieces of where it was. Some guard he was. "Of course you are a worthy ruler." Kaede replied immediately, without breaking a beat. To Kaede at least, nobody else deserved the crown other than her. He had been an apprentice when he heard of rumors of how the Queen was also a younger and would visit the city. While Kaede had never ran into her personally, the people had plenty to say about her. Although Kaede did not know of everything in the past, he was aware that many were punished for something. Did she have anything against the people because of that? No. The fact she felt no resentment for the people committed acts of hatred towards her was beyond Kaede. "You have done nothing but worked to heal the scars of the people. If you have not taken over, I believe that Ethe would have descended completely into darkness and used as bargaining chips for the other kingdoms."
He took a deep breath, unsure if he was getting his point across completely. Kaede then stood before her and bent done on one knee, his hand over his heart and head bent in the classic posture when a knight made a vow to the ruler or of like. "Milady, I swore to always protect you and the people. Every bead of blood that courses through the people must be held to the highest honor, no matter the person. You are a worthy ruler, and I swear to you, your Royal Guard and people alike will support you and the Kingdom of Ethe for as long as they stand."
As he carried her, Kaede was extremely sure that she was much thinner than usual. Not that he carried he before that it. It was simply that she was frighteningly lighter than the average citizen. However, he knew that such comments should not be made by him. He would just have to quietly ask the servants to fix that as soon as possible. Slightly heavier portions with more nutrient heavy decisions; The Queen needed her strength more than anything. "If what the elders say is correct, the last time such an event happened was about a century ago. Many people would not be able to see it for nearly another lifetime." he answered, frowning exactly. To be frankly honest, he was more worried for the people in Phobos. The discrimination was much too high already, and Phobos was not exactly the most prosperous city. Every time there was a famine, it would be the people who suffered first obviously. With the addition of thousands of people, the Phobian people would not be the most enthusiastic.
Kaede's expression became perplexed as she gripped the cloak even more and asked to be placed on the bench near the white roses. He silently nodded and walked over, gently setting her down at the bench. "No need for an apology; I overstepped my bounds by carrying you and for that: I apologize for my actions." He then stood up again, pondering if he should leave. He was just about to take a step back when the Queen asked to accompany her. His gaze softened ever so slightly. The fact she could ask that for him made him slightly grateful. He wanted to be someone she could rely on if the pressures became too great. As her Captain of Guard, he had to see that everyone was protected. Serving her and protecting the people since the eruption of Mt. Adara was like breathing air almost. He relied on the duty to live. If it were taken away, who knows.. "I would not mind at all. Please, if there is anything you wish to talk about, I am here." he promised. ✧ ║ ▌███████████████████ ▌║✧

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ Ophelia Estelle Quatrez Queen of Ethe ❛It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.❜ ▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇
I'm feeling: On guard, Tense | I'm with: Kaede Lorent | I have: $700EC
The way he replied without hesitance made the queen seem almost a little too surprised. She expected a slow response but instead, the answer came so quick she wasn't able to comprehend just yet. Ophelia sat in silence as she gazed at the man before her who spoke his thoughts aloud. It was then, she was reminded of her passion for this kingdom, her love, her devotion. How happy she was to see the smiles upon everyone's faces when she roamed in town. She remembered how fearful they once were towards their new queen, how tense they used to be though they had gradually warmed up to her after a few. At that memory of hers, Ophelia would laugh ever so slightly, only to bring her hand to stifle her sudden outburst of chuckles as she forced herself to quiet down. "Pardon me if I had startled you, I didn't mean to." countered the woman almost immediately as she straightened herself up when she felt herself touch the bench. Before she could speak any further, her fellow guard seems to have something on his mind. Her mismatched eyes followed after his figure tht now knelt above the ground, the meaning of his hand upon his chest. A vow, it seems. Ophelia still hasn't got herself accustomed to such things even after three solid decades within the castle walls but if it was common courtesy among royal families, she supposed she had to accept such gestures. Gestures that showed their sincerity, their will. It was something Ophelia wouldn't brush off so simply. Their vow was something the queen respected on a very high level.
Ophelia pushed herself off the bench but instead of standing, she too, will be down on her knees before her guard with her head lowered. The feelings she felt at the moment was a little hard to describe, to know that her people were happy, that they were satisfied, to know that her decisions had not caused their hearts to waver. Her eyes would glimmer once again albeit little and her lips would curve upwards. Her hands would move away from her cloak and take Kaede's ones within the confinements of her fingers before she placed her forehead against them. It was the only way for her to show her utmost gratitude to him, to the people for she had no other way to show her gratitude at the moment. "If this is in all honesty, I'm glad. I'm very.. glad. Nothing can ever show just how grateful I am to have all of your support. I can't ever thank everyone enough for their unwavering loyalty to the royal family. Your hearts and support will help me strive to rebuild this kingdom, to strive even better to create a place worth living again. A place where I'll get to see everyone's smiles once more." her hands were shaking and her voice quivered throughout her entire speech. It was nerve wrecking for her despite only having one person listening but this one person.. this one person who represented the hearts of many was what made her so tensed. So.. nervous. "Thank you.." she lifted her head, blonde tresses revealing her once radiant smile that was hidden beneath. "Thank you. I'll make sure to visit the people soon, once I've recovered myself."
She pushed herself up upon the bench once more, her novements sloppy and clumsy, unlike a person born with a silver spoon within her mouth. When Kaede spoke of the elders and their prediction to Mt. Adara's next eruption, she would heave a sigh of relief but even so, she'd worry even for the people that were long after her own lifetime. What would be of Ethe then? Would it still be standing? Would it crumble to dust? Buried under the heavy ashes? Ophelia shook her head, deciding it was best not to overthink on such things. It wasn't for her to worry about, if anything, they could at least do something to delay the lava from flowing so quickly into town. "That's a relief. Food will be rolling in soon along with the best doctors to cure the people. Ethe will be rebuilt in no time and I'm sure that Ethe's children would be eager to return to this kingdom. To reunite with their families. If not, I'll take them in as my own. It does get lonely within the castle walls from time to time." she answered. The nervousness and fear that once lingered within her vocal chords had faded, leaving only hope and eagerness to reach for the bright future that awaits her kingdom and its people. It made her want to strive harder, to hear the laughters that echo the streets instead of the voices of pain and agony.
She would reach for one of the many roses, gently caressing its smooth, soft petals with her fingers. Its flowery fragrance was one of the many reasons she liked coming here but now, she came here because she needed the strength, the willpower to move on. Even flowers could bloom and survive within the midst of a tragedy, so why couldn't she? When the royal guard apologized, Ophelia simply shook her head. "What did I say about formal speaking." countered the queen with a stern expression though it softened ever so quickly after she finished her sentence. "You meant well, and I believe that's not something worth apologizing for. If anything, it should be me who should thank you." she answered and lowered her head once more to show her gratitude. If the former king and queen were alive, they would scold her for being reckless with her actions. "A queen does not bow down to other people." She was told but young Ophelia didn't believe in such words, not even now. She noticed his softened gaze and she figured it was something he didn't mind doing. Ophelia smiled, gesturing to the empty space beside upon the bench, "Then take a seat. You must be tired. Everyone deserves a rest every now and then." she answered. The red fabric was still properly kept within her garbs, one she had forgotten to return to Herod, king of Phobos. He didn't seem too much of a horrible person but then again, it wasn't like anyone to create bad blood upon first meeting. "Instead of talking about the kingdom's problems, why don't you talk about yourself, your family, what it's like working as a guard. I'm sure you have an equal amount of burden you carry within yourself, so if you wish to vent, I'll listen with open ears." it must be hard, being forced to accept the fact of how many comrades had been sacrificed, how many were unable to escape from the tragedy. Instead, here he stood, still unwilling to give up his position as a guard. It was an aspect she respected, an aspect worth learning from. The decision of making him the captain was not wrong, even if he had yet to notice just why he was chosen.
It didn't take long until the sun has set and even so, the queen refuses to budge. She didn't want to leave her kingdom just yet. It was only then, the fear that once left her started filling her whole once more. Her shoulders would tremble and her features would flush pale. She didn't want to return to Lionis, not to Azazel. She didn't want to return to his chambers. She didn't want to bear his children. Once this morning was enough, she need not go through such things again but as much as she protested, the safety of her people came first. But just for a little while, just a little longer. "It's getting late. Why don't you go back and get some rest? I'm sure you're exhausted." she stated. She'd sit here a little longer. She'd sit here and admire the view of the flowers, carve it into the depths of her mind. She wondered when was the next time she'd be allowed to return to her kingdom, when she would once again speak to her people. She didn't want it to end just yet, so she'll stay. At least until the time she assumes the emperor would return to his chambers. She'd remove the cloak around her and pass it back to Kaede, her expression gentle as she mouthed the words "Thank you.". She'd cover herself up with her robe but not before wincing at the pain that sprout through her body at the sudden movement. Her fingers caressed the marks he left on her body before the robe were to cover it once more. "Please promise me one thing.. Kaede. That you'd protect the people while I'm gone? That you'd care for them in my stead? Is it okay, if I entrust their safety in your hands?" she asked, her voice quiet and fearful, her request becoming a plead altogether.

When was the last time he heard laughter? It seemed like a far off memory, the people rarely laughed nowadays. His golden eyes stared up at the Queen, mixed with something like surprise, admiration, and smitten. If there was the smallest bit of joy in the kingdom and it was only found by the Queen, then it would be even all the more important to protect her with all his life. He silently shook his head, before glancing back down almost in shame; The fact he was staring at her small chuckle -even if it was the smallest- was beyond what he could comprehend for his typical every day emotions.
He was then surprised when she pushed herself off the bench and took his hands, placing them on her forehead. If it wasn't an intimate encounter, then Kaede was a lobster. Her speech seemed to be taking much of her energy, making her shake. He closed his eyes, listening to her speech. He sincerely hoped that the Queen would have more faith in herself. Every person shall smile. The land will heal. The people will come together no matter. Like trees, they will come back, stronger than ever.
Once she got back on the bench, Kaede then stood up. Ethe's children will hopefully return. With the incoming doctors, food, and guards, Kaede believe things will go well. He gave a sheepish smile; It would be a difficult habit to break. Of course, he could eventually break it. But once again, serving the royalty was something slightly foreign. He paused as she invited him to sit next to her on the bench. "Thank you." he finally replied and sat down. He was not quite sure what to say about himself, however. An equal amount of burden? That couldn't be true.
"Well, I became an apprentice for the guard when I was about twelve or thirteen years old, persuaded by Sir Ian and Sir Soren to become a guard. Sir Ian was about my age, by three years my senior experience wise." Kaede began. As the sun dipped below the horizon, he realized how he was giving strange stories. Anecdotes of his adventures as an apprentice and as a guard. Why, he still remembered the day that Sir Ian declared he could climb anything and then got stuck on the windowsill of a fort. Kaede's eyes gleamed as he remembered Sir Soren's look of incredibility of seeing Sir Ian dangling with one arm and leg on the edge of a window while he was piling tons of hay at the ground below.
Finally, Kaede realized how much darker the surroundings where. "Ah, it is. I still have some rounds to do." he answered. He stood up and took his cloak back from Ophelia. He didn't feel quite right just leaving her, however. There was something obviously wrong. While Kaede assumed it was grief, it was a quick path to go from grief to self-hatred and to suicide. It was a path he had been on and still has one foot in at time. However, when she noticeable winced did Kaede realize something else. She was eating less, in grief, and seemed to be in physical pain. Was she harming herself? Finally, her words alarmed him beyond measure. Protect the people while she was gone? Caring for her in her stead?
"I can't." Kaede said, borderline fear edging in his voice. The kingdom couldn't lose Ophelia now. She couldn't think of taking her life now. She was gripping her body, almost as if it was in pain. What had she been doing? "I will always protect you and the people. I will care for them all I can, holding them in my hands as you do. But, I cannot serve without you, Ophelia. Please, do not throw away your life like that," he begged. "I promise to carry the kingdom and protect them, but not without you." ✧ ║ ▌███████████████████ ▌║✧ ✧ OOC | Ooh, sorry for such a late reply. Midterm season was a trip.xxxxxxxxx

Ophelia took notice of how he seemed expressionless most of the time but that was what made her find him rather amusing, and that was the aspect she admired about people: how they're capable to keeping their emotions to themselves. Or perhaps, Kaede simply just wasn't an expressive person. Perhaps he stopped smiling altogether after the tragedy struck. The queen would downcast her gaze, feeling the slight tension within the garden. It wasn't anything abnormal. None of the towns folks found it easy to smile after witnessing the loss of so many lives. That was also what made her even more determined to rebuild this kingdom to the way it once was. At least then, it wouldn't be so painful for them. It wouldn't be so painful as to live in a kingdom filled with ashes.
She'd listen with open ears when the guard spoke of his younger days and her mismatched eyes would pry open in surprise. "So young!" she exclaimed. Thirteen years old? Although it was nothing new, Ophelia still found it shocking. She hoped the guards didn't deploy such young teenagers to war when there weren't enough men. That was something she'd have to look into after that. She'd laugh when he spoke of his days as a guard and she'd find it pleasant that his golden orbs would glisten whenever he spoke of his comrades. Ian and Soren. She made sure to remember those names. The names that once served the kingdom. "You must have enjoyed your days. Your eyes glistened as if they held stars within them when you spoke of your comrades." she paused, "Is it something you.. enjoy? Being a guard?" he was persuaded at first and she knew it wasn't easy to be an apprentice. It was a tough job and she wondered if he ever came to like it. One can only go so far if they don't love what they do. Her eyes would drift to the horizon and she would gaze at what remains of Ethe from where she sat, the many tents people lived in. Were they sleeping alright? Did they have enough food? She'll make sure to bring whatever she can for them. As much as she can. She bowed her head when Kaede stood up. The queen wouldn't keep him occupied from his job for too long. She slowly pushed herself up as she wondered the whereabouts of her stallion. Had it gone safely back to the stables? It was about time she left for Lionis. The queen expected Kaede to follow what she had said but instead, his next set of words startled her.
"I can't." said the man.
It wasn't hard for her to detect the fear held within his vocals as he spoke. She was struck with confusion and a look of worry would cloud her features. "N-no-.. I mea-" before she had the time to finish her sentence, her words would be abruptly cut off by his following words. The queen sat in silence, stunned and dumbfounded by what he had said. Take.. her life away? That was what she intended to do when she was violated by the emperor but it was brushed away as soon as she thought about her people. Instead of getting furious, small chuckles would soon turn into laughter. She wasn't laughing at him, no. She was simply glad that there were still people who so willingly allowed her to rule the kingdom. This man was rather straightforward and she was glad they appointed him as the captain. "I believe you've misunderstood my words." she chuckled, eventually reaching her hand out to cup both his cheeks as she attempted to reassure the panicked man. "I don't plan on taking my life. Not in a million years. I can't possibly leave all of you behind, so don't you worry. I won't abandon anyone." said the woman as her hands would slowly fall to her side. The smile that once curved her lips would soon disappear, leaving a rather melancholic one upon her lips. Should she tell him? It was a little heavy and unbearable to carry it within her.
"I just.. won't be around Ethe as much. I won't be.. staying in Ethe." she gazed at the ground and bit her lip, finding such words awfully painful to say. "The-.. the emperor asked for my hand in marriage-.. to bear his children-" forced, to be precise. It was at the mention of the few final words that she felt a sense of nauseousness overwhelm her. She'd quickly bring her hands to her mouth, stifling the small gag within her throat. How disgusting. "For everyone. For Ethe-.. I'll be willing to make sacrifices, no matter how big it is. The people's health are my concerns and I won't allow any harm to befall this kingdom any longer. I do not want to see their pained expressions." she spoke, leaving out as much details as possible. He need not know what the emperor was about to put her through. He need not shoulder that burden. It was a choice she made and it was something that was soon to be expected the day she was born into the royal family. Her eyes would brim with tears she so desperately held back. She didn't want to go to Lionis. She didn't want to enter the emperor's chambers. She simply wanted to stay here and care for her people. But she couldn't. Not after Azazel's threats. She was worried. Worried if she could live long enough to see Ethe get back on its feet. She wondered if she'd ever have the chance to set foot into Ethe once she leaves tonight. Would she be so brutally murdered like one of his many wives? Who knew? But Ophelia was determined that she'd return. No matter how long it'd take. "So this is why I ask of you to take care of the people in my stead. Will you do that for me? I know it's very selfish of me to ask so much from you but you're the only person I can count on now. Please. Take this as me begging for your help-"

xxxk a e d e xxxxxx l o r e n t ✧ Location | Royal Abode xx✧ Company | Nobody at the present momentxx✧ Mood | Calmxx✧ Money | $245 EC For the past moth, Kaede has been busy to say the least. With supplies and guards from the empire coming to Ethe, it has been easier for the people. He was able to finally delegate some roles and get some rest. However, in his rest, Kaede was plagued by worries. Even if the kingdom was healing, it was difficult to accept that all will be well eventually. Hence, Kaede spent most of his time worrying about small things. At first, it was mostly towards the people. However, it slowly moved towards the royalty and guards. Kaede began to let guards rest and he would work in turn. He then visited the abode more often. For the past weeks, he still has not noticed the particular activities. The only hint what that the maids would not seen the Queen for extended periods of time.
Hence, all Kaede could really do was just tell the maids to make sure the Queen was eating and resting enough. He was fairly particular about making sure she was.. healthy. When she told Kaede that the emperor has apparently asked for her hand in marriage, Kaede couldn't exactly reject or accept it. It was all too timely and political. There was no official announcement, so Kaede made no comment. He began to visit more often, seeking meetings with the Queen. While most of them were work-related, there were times that Kaede simply made up reasons to make sure she was ok. He would not forget the day when she fell off her horse and was in pain. Kaede felt like he failed in that regard as a protector and knight for the Queen.
Kaede glanced in his bag, to make sure he had what he wanted. He wanted to speak to the Queen about visiting the ruins of the city and castle. While they were far and the castle loomed in the distance, Kaede knew that rebuilding had to begin sometime. And there may be things in the ruins that they could find. Even if it has been a year, there may be survivors, stragglers. Anything. He walked into the abode, bowing curtly to the servants and walked over to the Queen's quarters and knocked on the door. ✧ ║ ▌███████████████████ ▌║✧ [

I'm feeling: On guard, Tense | I'm with: Kaede Lorent | I have: $700EC
Guards have been sent over to help the citizens of Ethe and with that, despite unwilling, the queen felt grateful towards the king. At least he had kept to his word. However, poor Ophelia has yet to bear his child. Why was that? She wasn't sure. She was perfectly healthy, and the only thing that could explain her current condition was the stress that slowly took its toll upon her body. She The fear that she once harboured had faded little by little, leaving only emptiness within her whenever the emperor would summon her to his bedroom chambers. She had become used to his touch, his forceful way with her. It was a little saddening, how she had gotten used to sexual abuse, as if it was part of her daily routine. A queen, stooping to so low of a level, Ophelia could only ever laugh at herself. How long has it been? A few weeks? A month? Probably so. Every single day, Ophelia suffered new bruises, new marks. She wondered what would come to her first. Death by Azazel's hands or pregnancy. She didn't want to think about that. All she wanted to do was to survive, to go back to her castle, to be with her maids, her guards. Most of all, her people. She would appear depressed during a small period while she wasn't allowed to set foot outside the Lionis castle. Every passing day, she seemed less enthusiastic than she was before, and eventually, she lost her smile altogether. She became a puppet. A doll robbed of her freedom of speech. Why would she bother when she knew her words meant nothing to that selfish being of a ruler. She would be at the temple, praying for her kingdom's safety, for her people's safety. However, when she finally returned to Ethe after a long while, it was only then she learned how to smile once again. It was then, she learned how to feel once more. The feeling of happiness, of love for her people.
Early dawn, before sunrise, Ophelia was gone. On her horse, it galloped all the way from Lionis back to Ethe. What remains of her country. The sun was barely up but she noticed how there were already guards patrolling the area. Ophelia could only thank them for their hard work, giving them a curtsy as she walked past them and into her sleeping chambers. She was tired, and she had grown slimmer each and every day but with the help of her maids and Kaede, who seemed to be rather.. forceful when it came to her meals, Ophelia would find herself gaining just a little more weight than usual, though it was obvious that the signs of stress were ever so present on her features. Sitting upon her large bed, she'd run her fingers across the smooth fabric, feeling how tender they are. She'd lay down against her pillow, burying her face and taking a deep breath of the soft flowery fragrance that lingered upon her bed sheet. It was only when she was under her own roof, that she had managed to get just a wink of sleep, just enough energy to carry her through the day. By the time the sun rose, Ophelia noticed she had slept for quite a while, given how late into the day as it had appeared to be. Was she that tired? She had only planned on taking a short nap. She stood by her window, gazing out at the far distance where her castle once stood, but all that was left.. was dust and crumbled stone walls. She frowned, but before her thoughts escalated any further, a knock on the door would cut her thoughts short. Was it one of the maids? Was it Kaede? He seemed to be paying more visits, it seems. Nonetheless, she would hurry over and wrap her usual long red robe around her fragile body, covering up the many bruises before she'd allow anyone to enter.
"Come in." she answered, her heterochromias fixed upon the door as she wondered just who it was who stood on the other side.
