Long ago a Queen Ruled all of Ethe, she was a prideful but powerful woman whos people loved her. She ruled Ethe for 32, and to commemorate her reign she had a very difficult town built.
Structured upon two naturally forming stone peaks in the northern part of her Kingdom, a Castle-city was constructed and named the Town of Etherland in her honor.
Once Etherland was the capital of Ethe...and now that the Volcano has destroyed most of the Kingdom...Etherland is once again named its capital. Home to those who choose to remain in Ethe, Home to those who return, and Home to the Royal family, or at least whats left of it

The walk to Etherland was not a bad one, it allowed him time to truly think about the things he had seen in the war. about the rumors that had been floating in the wind in the two months after. As he walked he let himself get lost in watching the people walk along there daily life's, he could feel booth a sense of despair and hope, they survived the explosion, they might have lost many people in the process but here they could at least begin anew or build what they had again. he would never have admitted it before, but he enjoyed that. the feeling that one could start anew. with what he had seen of his father, and of other kings and queen, he had begun to wonder if the land was right to give power to any one individual.
And so lost in thought he walked forward his eyes clouded with thoughts of the past, thoughts of a war that even it ended caused even more grief then joy to this nation
Evelyn sat outside as the rain started to comedown and was the oil from her unwashed long black hair, causing the oil to spill down her face as she spat onto the ground any time it started to accumulate to much in the creases of her lips. She was dressed in a ragged dress that had once looked beautiful but had since fallen into a pile of loosened threads, dirt and mud with how long she had been wearing it. Her stomach growled in protest as she spat another bit of water from her mouth, she was hungry, it was a shock to her that she was even still alive at this point as even with the help of the Empire she hadn't eaten in a week, going to the bathroom had become painful at this point as even clean water was scarce with all the ash just starting to clear up. Evelyn closed her eyes as she lifted her head toward the heavens and let the rain fill her mouth before she swallowed, it didn't taste good but she still craved it as she opened her mouth again in order to get another mouthful. She had left camp Enya a month ago due to the overcrowding and she knew from experience in the royal army that when to many people came together in one place and no one was clean or cleaning that illness ran wild, she had seen an encampment of 150 men get wiped out from the conditions that many of the higher in command didn't bother to take notice of.
A puddle had began to form not to far away from her, the cobblestone walkway made it so that it was fairly clear looking. Looking around she saw no carriages headed her way so she slowly moved away from the wall she had taken residence near and moved over on her knees to the puddle, lowing her hands and turning them into a makeshift cup as she started to drink, once she got enough strength she would need to find actual food, maybe moss if she could find anything living near by. A splash caused her worry about her own well being stop when a large foot stomped into the water, the mud and grime from wherever that foot had been causing the water to turn murky, Evelyn took a deep breath to quell her temper, it would do her no use right now. She rose to her feet shakily "Excuse me, Sir" she called out, pushing down the dizzy feeling "Sir, do you have any water?" she asked him as her oily, heavy with water, clung to the sides of her face.

Alistair did not notice the rain coming down, he felt heavy in this body, he missed being a hawk, there was something about being such a creature, about being something that you where not, and have it become a part of you, he often found himself lost in thought thinking of such times. He stopped moving as he heard a voice near him. realization crashed into him as he realized he was wet. he turned seeing a wraith of a woman"No madam I do not." he responded he tried his best to sound bored. Myobi leapt of his shoulder his owl trained enough t know that she did not need to fly in the rain, her master would take care of her hopped to the girl and hooted. Alaistair noticed the oily hair, and how malnourished she was. he tried to calculate just how long she had to live."tell me do you know of an inn that would not ask to many question. if you know of any such place take me to it. you will get a warm meal." he kept his eyes on bright green ones finding them interesting, her eyes... they showed a survivor. Myobi hooted once more as she got closer to the woman
Evelyn looked over at the pale haired man and she shook her head, feeling the slight sting as it hit her face and bare shoulders "No sir I do not, I have not been in this city more then a week and the stores find it bad for business if a beggar stands outside them scaring away the customers" she said to him, she had stopped moving for fear of falling back into the stone, the world was a twisting mass of colorless grey and sticky rain and so she narrowed her eyes in order to focus on the man in front of her. It would make her look like she was glaring in order to keep the rain and oil out of her eyes but it was instead to make sure she had a focal point and didn't give in to the twirling world brought on by an empty belly half full of water. Evelyn would look at the man for quite some time in order to get the disorientation out of her mind "I do not know how far the underground stretches but I know of a Tavern that serves as an Inn called the blind witch, but that is the closes place I know of other then the brothel that is also in the same place" she stated. Evelyn knew the underground well, she had been stuck their for a few months with her old friend Alexandria, gods how she missed the white haired ballerina, she prayed she was alright.
Bringing her thoughts back to the man in front of her she realized how clean he was compared to the rest of the people in Ethe, was he an outsider? and if so what brought him to this gods forsaken place? Thanks to her many years amongst royalty she knew how clothing effect rank, she could tell he was high status by the material that he wore, at very least he could be a duke with the richness that he wore. Evelyn looked at the man once more "I apologize for bothering you for such a thing" she said to him.

Alistair sighed pinching his nose as he thought. "that wont do, you might die before then. watch myobi. stay here, if you pass out do it in alleyway with myobi at your side. I will be back." he took of his coat throwing it to her so it landed over her."do not think about moving, I am trusting you with something very important to me." myobi cooed by this time she was at the girls feet. the big blue eyes taking in the girl with curiosity. He ran back the way he came finding one of the guards he gave his full name, know if his father so asked he would likely be easily found, but at least he was able to get information that would be beneficial to him. he was led to a store that would have what he was looking for. he returned back to where he had left the green eyed woman in his hand a bag, as wet as he was. he had no time to get a good price, he got two vines of grapes. as malnourished as she appeared, he figured she would not be able to eat the full two wines, but at least she would be getting some nutrient along with some needed water.
Evelyn stared at the man for a moment, confused as to why he was so worried about her wellbeing, but she didn't stop him as he tossed the coat at her and the bird seemed to come with it before he ran off before she could even say anything. She would put the coat around her shoulders and look down at the bird "Shouldn't you be sleeping?" she said to the bird before looking around, he said not to move but she was in the middle of the street, so instead of doing exactly as she was told she walked over so she was next to a building instead, and it was a good thing to as two carriages would pass side by side in the middle of the road, if she had been standing their they would have broken a bone or two which in her current condition could be bad.
The dizziness would take hold, causing her to slowly sit down, moving the coat so it was covering her shoulders and knees like a blanket as she would watch the man return "huh...welcome back" she said to him as she sat up slightly, using her right hand to brush her hair out of her face, with all the rain no more oil was left in her hair as requested, your bird is still here" she said to him as she turned to look at the bird, resting behind an empty barrel "what's that?" she asked him as she leaned forward and saw the grapes, her stomach growling loudly "Are those for me?" she asked.

Alistair smiled happy to find that she listened. he whistled and myobi trotted up to meet him. he handed the girl the grapes. I doubt you will be able to sustain regular food." he looked around for no other reason than to. the rain really did make him miss thee comfy warmth of the school."eat some, but lets go to the place you mentioned, tell me if you happen to know the rates. as promised I will get you a good meal." he picked up myobi placing her on his shoulder. He stared at the girls green eyes once more, he noticed the oil seemingly gone from her hair, but he knew she would need a bath and more then she would be getting. she would need a job. "why are you doing this?" he asked himself, he found he could give himself no real answer, but in the spirit of what he felt being a hawk, he would ride this thermal. hopefully it wouldn't lead to him deing in the underground.
Evelyn looked at the man as he handed her the grapes and before he was even speaking she was already shoveling them into her mouth, a bad idea as they hit her stomach and sloshed with the rain water she felt good at the start but it every quickly started to change as she stopped eating and put the grapes away for a moment as she groaned, holding her stomach, she wanted to hurl up the food she just ate along with the water. Evelyn put a hand to her mouth as she felt the content of her stomach begin to rise, but she forced it back down, feeling the bile in the back of her throat she swallowed, she would not let food go to waste, she had the discipline for this, she was a soldier, she was once a princess, she could do this. Years of ettiquite came back to her head and years of punishment soon followed and she forced the bile back down as she swallowed it "yes, of course" she said to him "Right this way" she said to him as she took a grape and put it into her mouth, but she didn't do so quickly any more as she bit into the grape and let the juice wash over her mouth, tasting it and letting the inside jell like substance dissolve on her tongue before swallowing, she would lead Alistair to the Blind Witch.

Alistair fallowed behind her. he perked his ears up, watching and hearing everything for a sing he might have gotten himself into trouble. but he kept the woman in the center of his vision. she really was malnourished, but even so the way she walked thee way she had previously stopped herself from throwing up after eating the grapes so fast let him know. " this woman is not just a civilian." could she have been a part of the civil war? if so was she on the empress side? he did not know, but she did not look like she was malnourished for just the last couple days. once more he began to wonder, was his father doing the most e could for the empire? was he the best choice? his thoughts kept him quiet. but he watched, he listened. he waited.
" Many of you are wondering what has happened to the goddess of fire that we so revere." he looked down at the town from the platform that was erected moments before the arrival of him and the towns officials. he heard of what had happened in the site of the Ethernal fire. he did not want dissent to spread through the ranks of his town and its civilians. the riots started int he Ethernal fire, but the fire in his heart had gotten cold. if what he suspected truly had happened. he let his hands grasp the wooden railings before letting his voice echo in the almost silence of the town. " it is my belief the goddess has left to the heavens.the gods are not meant to walk around with us for long. that is why they ascend." he put on the biggest smile he possibly could put in this situation. he let go of the railing and stared at the crowd that had come when he announced he would be giving his speech. " at our most dire time she descended and sought to help us as best she could. but even the gods have given us the free will to act and to become better then we where. "
"and better we have become" he said after taking another second to look at the town. those around him looked around. the ton looked much more difrent then it did last year. newer sings where up even here the sound of those that worked with the metals found in the mining could be heard. some of the smiths where here and had left there apprentices in charge while they heard word from the mayor about what was happening in ethe "The wall is down, and so is the Ethernal flame that was to signal our doom. and i say to you, that is not the case. doom will befall us if we do not keep our wits and our sanity with us. the goddess was likely forced to leave by the other gods. that is what made the fire go out. Now like what we call ourselves. we must not let this be the end. we are pheonixes. we rise!!!"
more emotions began to rise deep within his chest. etherland was his land, his home. it was what had given him hope when it did not exist.
" you have chosen the members of my council that help guide life here you have chosen me as your mayor." tho in his old age he did not like beheaving like he used to when he was younger, he felt his youth returning to his bones if only for a moment. he coudl hear the low sound of some of the elderly thumping there canes on the floor in agreements. "do not let fear impede your work. we will find a way to help those that need help. we did it when adara erupted, we will do so every time it is needed. we are Etherland!!! with that he turned and walked down the hastily made structure. yet tho hastily made it was, he coudl feel pride in his people. they had worked hard through the ages. and know he could be proud of the quality of there work. he left the other council members to discuss other matters with the populace. a renewed fire in the mayors chest.
The Town of Etherland. They had made it in decent timing.
No trouble along the way, and Eleia's personal carriage made for a pleasant, conversation filled ride with Emi and Sharla. She was enamored with stories and felt comfortable enough to not be so.. proper about her own. They could enjoy each other's company, which was fulfilling on it's own. But, it had been quite some time since Eleia had left Zalto. The Duchess did not hold reserves about crossing lands, she lacked a sense of fear that might have been seen as healthy in others. But, what was she to fear about Ethe? It was not fear, but anticipation for what could be.
Upon drawing close to the entrance of the city, the carriage stopped. The man navigating their journey was one of Eleia's new handlers. He'd been chosen specifically because of his untainted views on the Duchess' behavior. If she disappeared from his sight, he might not be inclined to believe she was up to any shenanigans. He raised a gloved hand to the guards, "Duchess Eleia Di Rose of House Draconis, hailing from the Kingdom of Zalto." The carriage was marked with the Di Rose family signet. The duchess had chosen this form of transportation for the sake of being able to enjoy the company of her friends.
Hearing voices outside, Eleia squeezed Emi's hand reassuringly, "Looks like we've made it.." her eyes moved between the young maid and Sharla, "I could not have asked for better company on this trip. I can't wait to see what Ethe has in store for us." A smile formed on her lips and she took the liberty of slipping out of the carriage to confirm her arrival.
"Just dropping in for a visit." Her tone was light and her hands were clasped gently in front of her. Obviously, she had no weapons on her person. Despite leaving in a winter cloak, Eleia had shed the garment the closer they got to Ethe. She was clad in a dark green dress, trimmed in Zalto gold and just simple enough for her to not stand out in a crowd -- well, perhaps not in Ethe. Nevertheless, she stood poised for the guard.

"You really do give me too much credit," blushed the bashful maid. "I'm sure Sharla's stories are what's keeping this trip interesting." Her brow began to furrow, however, as she spotted the border patrol.

x Their armor wasn't the most fancy by any means, but there was a regality to the guard, even with these funds, that was telling of the kingly might of what military Ethe did have. This was to be expected--they were in the most populous area of the nation, after all--but to have a coiled wall of scintillating plates and spears along the border? No...
Each member of the militia was fitted with the follow: a relatively straight sabre on the right hip--with a red and black hilt and a dagger in the same style.as its sister on the left--a small, circular shield with a cutaway portion at the top, a spear with either steel or obsidian at the tip to fit into such a space for a viscous defense, a secondary helm that was much too large for the head hanging off the back, and if not all these--If they were an archer--obsidian arrows lined quivers where there would have been a spear. They marched in two very long lines that writhed around the border in three rows, each specialist overlapping the other--arrow, sword, spear. When it came time to rest, one row was allowed to sit and be protected by the others.

"Hail!" Said the captain of one of the brigades as he held up a gloved hand. "Enitan Lamaru, fifth brigand of Ethe's militia. Zalto is always welcome here but... Whereby does this visit come? We have not been notified." Another question arose as the men moved in and started to inspect for weapons. "Please... Be careful." Once they were satisfied, the militia-serpent gulped and swallowed the caravan.

"Ohh... Wow..." Emi seemed to be speechless, looking all around at whatever rebuilt buildings were there. "It's a bit smaller, but it's still wonderful."
The whole place was replete with the old style of architecture Ethe was known for. All the little villas that spun off alleys where the moon would watch over the young phoenixes, each crawling plant over some museum or government building was more alive than the rest of town on most nights; all the people darting in and out of kiosks as they dragged wheel over the cobbles of the market, all the pets allowed to roam free to greet any newcomers were the beating heart of a wounded country. The three were welcomed by a circle of dogs, yipping excitedly at the wheels of their carriage.
Old age is not so bad when you consider the alternatives. ~Maurice Chevalier~
And here they were at Ethe's border. Sharla was both amazed that she was here and quite flattered that these two beautiful ladies actually invited her along. She was an old lady, after all, and many felt that the elderly did not make good company. She leaned over and peered out of the window. So much snow... grey ash peeking through. It was beautiful in its own way, but in the dead of winter, it seemed to be almost a haunted place. It was quiet... as though something was happening elsewhere.
But that wasn't of concern to them now, for they were here, and they were on their way into Ethe. This was their vacation and they would make the most of it! Even if it was just to sight-see and enjoy a different country's beauty.
Those guards were nervous.... "They're handsome men, aren't they?"
She smiled widely. "I love strong men in full uniform. So sharp."
Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does - except wrinkles. It's true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place. ~Abigail Van Buren~
