As soon as Pax granted Isobel and Susan their task, the navy-haired girl frowned. "An accessory?" She asked in a murmur, just as the pair turned away from the peaceful one and faced the crowd. "Where d'ya think we'll find one that it likes? Maybe a- a flower? Or- I don't know... I guess it has enough of those..." She glanced at Isobel, still feeling a bit embarrassed after having received such a well-worded compliment from the other girl and absolutely wrecking s**t with her anxious response. She was nervous. All the time. Moreso when pretty ladies actually thought she looked pretty, too. She felt pressured to make a good impression, and that tended to make things go worse than they would have had she just not worried so much about it. She was a worrier, though. Just like her mom.

"A flower might be good," Tibbie hummed, shifting on the balls of her feet. "Maybe... something sparkly? Or something with gems - it seemed to like pretty things, so maybe anything pretty will do." That said, she scanned the hall for something pretty. Of which there were many, many things, the only trouble was... they all seemed to be attached to people. Intimidating people. "It said 'lend' but do you really think someone will?" It was more of a murmur as she thought out loud. "Maybe we can find something that's not, er, part of someone's outfit already."

"I'm n-not even sure what's all actually attached to them and what would be considered an accessory, anyway..." And she wasn't too keen on the idea of speaking to beings she didn't have to. Especially considering the vast majority of them looked... rather sinister. They'd probably just rope she and Isobel into doing another favor in return and it'd become a never-ending chain. Yes, it'd be better to just find something on their own. "M-maybe we could check in the w-wash room?" She asked. "S-someone might leave something in th-there..." She fidgeted nervously. "I don't even know where one is, though..."

That was a very good point. "Yes!" Brightening, she seized on Susan's idea, "that sounds great! People lose things in the washroom all the time, right? And if something's lost people sometimes put it on the counter there if there's no Lost and Found." She paused, brows wrinkled. "There... isn't a Lost and Found, right?" She pondered that for a moment before shaking her head; "no, nevermind! The washroom's an eminent idea, we'll go with that." She nodded to her partner, trying to feign more confidence than what she was actually feeling. "Let's start searching in the hallway," she said, before reaching out to grab Susan's hand so they didn't get separated in the throng of people. Hopefully no-one would notice her beet red face in this lighting. Tugging gently, she started moving towards the nearest exit.

Is... is my hand in the hand... of another girl's?Isobel wasn't the only one thankful for the lighting. Susan's own blush had blossomed into something more full-on and entirely unflattering. She waved her other hand in front of her cheeks as they moved through the crowd, desperate to cool herself off and not look like a blotchy Van Gogh painting in front of this sparkly-dressed goddess. She was pulled through the throng at a brisk pace and was entirely happy to be led because she wasn't quite sure what was happening anymore now that all the blood had rushed directly to her head. Was she... starting to panic? No, no, no, stop please stop... She really didn't want to have a meltdown. Not now. Her lungs, however, spasmed painfully in her chest. She did her best to look normal but still couldn't hide all the discomfort. Her lips were pressed into a tight line. She was thankful that they were slipping away, at least. She'd probably just gotten too warm, in that crowd... she'd be better off in the alcove near the washroom. Much better off. She pointed to the line of otherbeings by a door to their right. "I th-think it's th-there!" She looked forward to splashing some water on her face, as well as- hopefully- finding what they needed to find. The realization that they were close to their goal was enough to calm her down enough to not go into full-blown anxiety mode.

"Yes!" Tibbie hadn't looked back at her companion even once, scared that she'd lose her courage if she did - she'd promised herself that tonight she'd be brave, like a heroine in a novel, but still she could feel her nerves acting up. Taking Susan's hand had been bold; perhaps even a bit too bold, if her own sweaty palms were anything to go by. She made to go take a place in the queue for them, but one of the otherbeings up near the front of it took one look at them, eyes straying to Susan, before clucking wordlessly and motioning for them to take its place. "Oh, thank you!" Bewildered but happy, Tibbie gave the creature a shaky smile before tugging her companion with her to the spot in question. "That was really nice of them," she remarked to Susan. "I wonder why they did it?" She threw another shaky smile, this time at Susan, and then finally noticed the state she was in. "Åh! Are you okay?" Worried, she let go of the other girl's hand, to flutter her own hands uselessly in the air. "Do you need something? Air? Some water?" What else? Her brain was coming up short of things to help Susan, the faintest edge of panic tingeing her.

There were panicked tears at the corner of her eyes. Susan quickly brushed them away, doing her best to present Isobel with a smile- though it was tentative, and a bit shaky. "S-s-sorry," she murmured. "I just get a b-bit flustered s-s-sometimes... it's worse, in c-crowds. I just need to cool down." She moved to one of the bathroom's sinks, splashing her pale and freckled face with some water. She stared at herself, quite miserably, in the mirror and glanced at Isobel's reflection, too. If only I were someone different... she thought. Someone with more confidence. Like Temperance. She wondered what the other woman was doing tonight. Surely, she was having a better time than Susan was. The navy-haired girl took a long breath in, held it, then exhaled. She looked at Isobel- the real Isobel, not her reflection. "I-- I feel better n-now. I'm s-sorry." Her eyes dropped to the tile. What were they doing again? Oh. She turned to survey the washroom, but didn't see anything that could be considered an accessory. "I guess there's nothing here..." She said. "Where else do you think---?"

"It's fine, don't worry!" Isobel fluttered uselessly while Susan splashed her face, unable to keep her hands still but unable to do something that'd help either. She'd been too hasty, had pulled who she'd hoped would be a new friend into a situation she wasn't comfortable with without checking if it'd be okay first. She'd messed up and now any chance of becoming friends with Susan was probably doomed. Face falling, she tried to block out the negative thoughts as she waited - it wasn't working very well. Thankfully her companion spoke soon enough and broke her dismal reverie; "åh! Don't be sorry - there's nothing to be sorry for! Everyone feels bad now and again, right? And I, I just pulled you into a crowd of people without even asking you-" she broke off, looking to the side and blinking quickly to keep back the tears. Why do I always make a mess of things? When she thought she had it relatively under control, she looked back to Susan again; "I'm really sorry, I behaved atrociously. I should have asked. I'm so sorry." Fiddling with things was a nervous habit of hers and unconsciously, her hand went to her hair decorations as she looked miserably at her companion.

Susan noticed the falter in Isobel's speech and felt immediately bad for projecting her own anxieties onto the other woman. She rushed forward, quick to place her hand on the other partygoer's shoulder. She squeezed it, perhaps a bit awkwardly. "H-hey," she said. "It's alright, d-don't feel bad- ok? It's not y-your fault I get w-worked up. It's my own f-f-flaw to deal with..." She offered Isobel a tentative smile, ducking her head a bit to get herself within the woman's gaze. Then, she noticed the accessories in her hair. "O-oh!" She cried. "Why don't w-we give Pax one of the p-p-pieces from your hair? If they don't... m-m-mean anything to you, that is..."

Tibbie nodded with an unsure smile on her face; she wasn't convinced, but she was willing to move on from the topic. If they stayed there listing all the things she'd done wrong tonight, they'd end up missing the rest of the party and she was definitely not going to let that happen. Not tonight, when she'd finally discovered that magic, what she wanted most in the world, was real; tonight, she would do her best to be a normal, non-negative person. And then Susan had an absolute revelation and Isobel instantly brightened up; " yes, that's brilliant!" She patted the biggest, shiniest one of her clips and got to work on untangling it, "they're just something pretty I bought with some leftover money from my old part-time job! Um, they're very sparkly but they weren't very expensive; I don't think the stones are real real - I mean obviously they're stones but they're not diamonds or anything." Finally she got the hair decoration free and handed it to Susan with a beaming smile, "there!" It was a pretty mishmash of white and pastel coloured stones, set in a bronze metal - when the light hit it just so, it glittered like all the Queen's diamonds.

"O-oh!" Susan took the hairpiece and turned it gently in her hand, admiring the way the light gleamed through the gems. "It's pretty. I think Pax will like it... I can't believe we didn't think of it before. B-but.. we did now, s-so..." She offered Isobel her hand this time. "Let's go bring it to her, ok? Maybe this t-time... avoid the bulk of the crowd?" She looked sheepish, and though her blush was fading now it still tinted her cheeks just the tiniest bit of pink. Her eyelashes were wet and glittery from the water she'd splashed on her face and her eyes were still red-rimmed from her almost cry. Still, she did her best to look... confident. She wanted to show Tibbie that she was alright now. That they could do this.

"Yes!" Isobel took Susan's hand and was glad to see that she looked much improved, even if she still bore the signs of her earlier distress. "I don't like crowds much either to be honest but not-" she faltered before plowing on- "not as little as you do. I think you're very brave though, being at a party like this! And you've done really well, even when you felt bad you just-" her free hand made a descriptive gesture in the air- " carried on and did the things that'd make you feel better." Her smile carried the truth of her words and a gentle squeeze to Susan's hand accompanied it. It was obvious to her that her companion on this quest was a very eminent lady, and secretly she wished that someday she'd be just as eminent. It probably wasn't in the cards for someone like her, though.

"W-well... I still like going to things, and be-being around people... I just, umm, well... I get anxious and panicky sometimes over little stuff and then th-thinking about everyone ar-round me and s-so close... it, uh, juuusst... exacerbates it, I guess. I'm easily stressed. Especially around girls I think are pretty." A blush re-appeared hot and bright pink across the tops of Susan's cheek bones. She hadn't meant to let that last bit slip, and yet... it had. She looked down immediately, embarrassed by her own compliment. She looked at their hands, twined together. Her other hand still held the hairpiece and she squeezed it just a bit too hard when she realized that wow I really am holding hands with a beautiful lady. The silver bit of the hairpiece bent within her closed palm, and Susan yelped. "Oh- oh no!" She brought it between the two of them, so Tibbie could see the now slightly less valuable bauble. "You th-think... you think it'll still be okay like this? I'm s-sorry, it's s-so delicate I should've been more careful..."

A blush to match Susan's bloomed on Isobel and she faltered for a moment, looking away from her new friend to wonder if this was real life - two compliments in one evening, this was amazing. In her reverie she completely missed what was happening until Susan yelped. "Åh! Are you alright?!" She looked from Susan's hand to the hairpiece. "Yes - I mean, it still glitters, right? And it'll clip on, I think. That bit didn't get damaged; it's all just a bit... out of shape? But it wasn't like it had a proper shape of something to begin with, it was just abstract. And now it's even more abstract! That should be fine."
