Transaction Declined
"So," Shiloh was sitting on the floor in Jamie's room, face placid and neutral as he glanced over his nails, "A stranger came into your house, gave you a key, and invited you to some magical dance?"
The way he said it was somewhat condescending, dubious almost. Perhaps not at Jamie, but the tone was still there.
"Can't say that happened to me, but I guess that's not really surprising." Shiloh admitted with a flick of his wrist, flopping over completely onto the plush ground. Jamie had so many goddamn plushies in his room, so Shiloh saw it fit to grab one—a rather bulbous orca—to use as a makeshift pillow. "You gonna go?"

Transaction Declined"I couldn't make that kind of thing up..." muttered Jamie, sensitive to Shiloh's condescending tone whether it was meant for him or not. Lately things stung more than they should. Maybe he was going through a rough phase?
"I don't understand why, though. Why would I get an invitation, but not you?" Sitting with his knees held to his chest, he toed at the carpet. It was tempting to grab a plush of his own to snuggle, but he resisted. "It's kinda scary, but I feel like I should go..."

Shiloh shrugged. "Otherworld works in really bizarre ******** ways." his hands laced over his chest delicately as he stared at the ceiling. "Maybe other people got invited too?"
He sat up, hugging the orca to his chest. "That, or you're the only one and it's a total ******** trap." his eyes gleamed, vividly blue and sharp against the fairness of his skin. He'd been sleeping better lately; or at least, it looked like it.
"I wouldn't go if I were you." he said, staring Jamie dead in the eyes.

Transaction Declined"I dunno why they'd want just me... I couldn't offer anything." Boy, it sure was easy to devalue himself. It always had been and continued to be even now that things were, or should've been, looking up. "I guess I can't say anything, though. I still don't understand how stuff works there."
Jamie's eyes locked with Shiloh's momentarily, his stomach flipping before he had to look away.
"I-I get why you're worried, but... I feel like... I have to do something. The invitation said we could bring a guest and I was hoping..."

The way Jamie trailed off... Shiloh got it.
"So you were what? Going to invite me?" he laughed, sounded incredulous.
"Look, I... I'm not walking in there." he looked serious when he spoke up again. "I've had enough of this supernatural bullshit. You've gotta be joking... right? You're not, are you..."

Transaction DeclinedHe wasn't joking.
Jamie knew it was selfish to ask anyone, his best friend especially, to walk headfirst into the deathtrap that was Other Ashdown. Still, the Otherworld wasn't something he could actively avoid, not as a moonwalker. If he tried, he'd end up just like...
"I thought... we were going to face all of this together..."
So, so selfish. So disgustingly selfish. Jamie could feel the guilt creeping through his insides and it was probably just as obvious on his face, too.
"You're... really not gonna go?

Oh Jamie...
'"Jamie, Jame..." his voice turned soft, concerned, brows furrowing a little. "Don't pull that s**t on me..."
He got up, approaching him with the orca still in tow. "We are, but this? I can't shake the vibe I get from it. It's..." he paused, then sighed, "Look, the s**t that happened at Blackfriar's; we couldn't avoid that. And the training we're doing with Chris? We need that for the things we can't avoid."
"This weird... invitation thing? We can avoid this. We don't need to be heroes and answer everything that we think is a call to action." He hooked the plushie under one hand, letting his other playfully punch his shoulder. "This... isn't anything against you, y'know."

Transaction DeclinedIf Jamie took a moment to step back, put away his dejection, and think rationally, he would've understood that Shiloh definitely wasn't wrong. It didn't sound like a very Shiloh thing to say, but it was reasonable and it was safe. That didn't make him feel much better, though, as unfortunate as that was.
"I... guess you're right," he admitted, letting himself fall backwards onto the carpet at the 'force' of Shiloh's playful punch. "I still... wish I could learn more about that place. I feel like there's so much stuff I don't get and I... I can't escape that place y'know?" He rolled onto his side and curled into a ball, one hand covering his ear. "I just thought... I could learn, but... maybe I should let it go."

Shiloh watched as Jamie flopped over, watched as he curled in on himself.
"You're upset." he noted, flopping over right beside him. It wasn't much, but the two of them had grown more touchy of the late (actually, too touchy; sometimes it bothered Shiloh), though after a moment of consideration, he touched Jamie's arm with his hand, soft fingertips on soft skin.
"It's... not a bad thing, to be curious." he offered with a lazy yawn. "Especially since you're... well, a rabbit and all. It's not like I'm saying we should ignore Otherworld, just not... go to this, y'know? We can explore and learn and still play it safe."

Transaction DeclinedIt would be simpler to deny it, and Jamie kinda wanted to, but Shiloh already knew the truth, so was there really a point to playing stupid? "Yeah..." was all he said, though. It sounded like something that could've been a response to either the observation or the reassurance in turn.
Hiding his face against his arm, Jamie sighed, trying to accept the comfort, trying to will the disappointment away. It was sort of strange... he remembered Shiloh's hands being rougher than this.
"You're right," he mumbled against his own skin, resigned and no longer wanting to argue it.

"'Course I'm right." Shiloh smiled, almost predatory, almost nervously. Jamie had his face buried against his arm; he wouldn't see. Shiloh continued to run his thumb against his skin. After a moment of hesitation, he scooted closer to the other, wrapping his arm around his body.
"...I just want you to be safe." he admitted carefully.

Transaction DeclinedHad Jamie seen the look, it might not have made a difference. Another bullet on the growing list that wouldn't feel quite significant enough until some time later.
"I know..." It was hard not to sound like he was moping. "I'm sorry, Shiloh." There was a warmth in Jamie's chest fighting for dominance at Shiloh's touch, but he was just a bit too disheartened to let it win. Didn't mean he made any attempts to pull away, of course. He hated to be upset with him.

"It's alright, don't apologize." he huffed against the back of his head, squeezing him with his arm. "You always apologize and apologize and apologize when you don't need to, y'know."
That was a truth, at least.
"You wanna watch a movie?"

Transaction DeclinedIt was a truth. And even more so, Jamie knew he didn't need to apologize. He didn't need to, but he felt compelled to. Always. Each and every time. He drooped. "O-Okay... sor- um, nevermind."
With a huff, he continued to lay there, accepting Shiloh's attempts to calm him even if they hadn't quite managed it. "Movie sounds... nice." At least that way he could stop thinking about things.

Even if Shiloh's ministrations fell on numb touch, he didn't seem too bothered by it. The movie would do well to soothe Jamie, and he knew this. He knew a lot about his friend. He gave him a gentle squeeze before sitting up.
"C'mon then. We can watch your favorite." he offered with a grin, "Unless you wanna see something new? We could always browse Netflix."
