a favor for thorne
i gotta resize the image here stand by "There's nothing that I want from you," Thorne says if you approach him, one leg crossed over the other where he is perched, knuckles pressed against the sharp line of his jaw. His eyes are lidded, but there's something sharp and hungry in them as they pass over you, "Though if you're really interested, I guess you could try your luck..."
He gestures with a free hand.
"Madam Melany... The Spinel Lady, would you keep her attention for as long as you can? How long?" He hums a noncommittal tune. "As long as it takes for me to drink this glass of wine. If you do, we can talk."

To successfully complete Thorne's favor, you must roll three six-sided die. These will select your solo/duo story elements! If an element has (Fail) next to it, disregard any further rolls and write a short post relating how you got to the point of failure. You may then retry, but only after your first post is filled!
If you're soloing it, you just fill in that post with your character's progress through the favor. Should you choose to RP this favor with another player, please make a thread in the event forum and link it in your roll post when you're done.
FIRST DIE: What do you do to distract Melany long enough for Thorne to have a drink? 1 - Cause a commotion near to where she is sitting. 2 - Ask her to dance. 3 - Tell Melany a joke. (Fail) 4 - Spill your drink near her. 5 - Spill an entire tray of drinks... on her. (Fail) 6 - Dedicate a performance to her and sing/mime/yodel the s**t out of the room.
SECOND DIE: How do you do at distracting her? 1 - You pull off your distraction flawlessly. It is questionable whether or not she is going to kill you later though. 2 - You somehow ended up in Melany's lap. (Fail) 3 - A crowd passed in front of you in the middle of your attempt. You accomplished something... at least? 4 - You somehow covered yourself in wine and need to make a hasty retreat. But you got her attention! 5 - You ended up tipping Melany's chair over. (Fail) 6 - Strangely, a stranger or two joined in. It was weird.
THIRD DIE: Do you make it out of the room and back to Thorne? 1 - No, Melany is prepared to murder you in cold blood.(Fail) 2 - Barely. You might or might not be smoldering, though it is unclear just how you're alive. 3 - Yes, but barely, and you stink of wine too. 4 - Somehow, but you aren't really sure how. You have a few bruises, you think Melany has you on her hit list now. 5 - Thorne looks shocked when you get back - you did it, but you did it so outrageously that he thinks you're going to die. 6 - No, you attracted a crowd and cannot escape in time. (Fail)
Please quote elkbones when you're done for information dispersal! don't worry about quoting me multiple times C:
NOTE: Every fail will invoke the wrath of Melany a little bit more, and she will become more hostile towards your character as a result. Are you ready for the challenge?

Shun Kuroda 25/25 | What are jokes
Seeing Thorne was a bit of a surprise, especially to see him unmasked. There was something off with the man, though he couldn't really pick out what it was. He seemed... moody?
Shun glanced back towards the Spinel lady as she was pointed out. A distraction? Well... he supposed he could try to do just that. Thorne's appearance and demeanor stirred questions. With a furrowed brow, he made his way over to the woman, who exuded a dangerous aura about her.
What made for good distractions?
For whatever reason... perhaps it was some lingering hunger pangs from before... huuuumor? People liked jokes... right? That was a thing people did? The plant folk earlier were laughing so much one had passed out.
This was a horrible idea.
"Do you know why it is that the chicken has crossed the road?" he asked in a complete deadpan and monotonous tone. Immediately after saying that, he realized just how stupid this was and he held a finger up.
"Forgive me. I am just going to excuse myself now."

Chel | 25/25 | Woops I """"Tripped""""
Thorne was being a real b***h right now but he was still a friend and he'd requested help. Asking for a distraction- that was more usual than the fidgety guy that sat before her. She was sure Thorne just needed to escape a bad hookup or something. Yeah that was it.
She approached the lady and asked very politely, "Hey lady, let's shake a leg." Chel then took the woman's hand and practically dragged her to the dance floor, very slyly looking over at Thorne to make sure he was getting the distraction he needed.
The dance was harder though; the people here didn't dance the way Chel was used to. She was more mosh pit and club dancing style, this woman clearly wanted something more elegant.
What resulted was a foot fumble and two ladies on the ground, with Chel's face all but smashed in the woman's thighs.
Normally, not a bad place to be.
Right now, with the way the lady was glaring, a very bad place to be.
She scampered and made her escape as best she could, but she also couldn't get back to Thorne in time. Crap.

Autumn Smith 25/25, tipsy and failing at dancing
The search for a suitable piece of jewelry for pax had lead Autumn off to an alcove and away from the thick of the party, where she had accidentally stumbled upon Thorne. Seemed that he was being just as much of a p***k as Alois was. ********, all of them. Or maybe it was the wine talking? Who knew! She was a light weight anyway, and Alexis had just. Brought her. More and more glasses. Soooo she'd had a few! What was the harm?
Which had lead her to... This. Scouring out a woman she didn't know to try to distract her long enough to actually get an idea what was going on. (She wasn't THAT far gone, thank you very much. Just. Kind of sort of tipsy. Really.) She had gone to approach the woman on a sudden urge to dance... And had knocked the ******** out of her chair. Terrific. Just terrific.
Before she could make more of an a** of herself in this dress, Autumn scrambled away for the door, wine heavy on her breath. She definitely wasn't reporting this to Thorne.
Maybe it was time for some water.

Marcus LeCroix 25/25 on a fail roll/b]
When he walked by the prickly man, Marcus almost shied back out of worry. Confrontation was just difficult. He hardly was able to stomach his growing anxiety and the curt manner of speaking made the man visibly flinch. But-
"Are you sure you are not just trying to get drunk?" He asked, looking at the wine. "That seems a terrible way to go about it but, I am one to talk about getting a bit... indulgent at parties like these. If you want though, I can certainly try."
Looking at the Spinel Lady, he shuddered not because of fear of people in that moment but rather of her. And the fact that she was pretty, and important.
Two of Marcus's weaknesses.
She also might be in cahoots with the government so there was also that air of danger in his mind.
As he went and approached the Lady he began to stutter.
Wow. Dang, Pretty and important and scary and oh shoot he forgot what he was going to say.
Marcus said the first thing that came into his head.
"Did it hurt falling from heaven because you look like an angel."
He stared at her. Then darted back the way he came.
He looked at Thorne, paled, and kept walking.
Very fast walking at that.

Nathaniel Parrish - 25 / 25 - losing out on his future career as a waiter
On the one hand, Nathaniel thought he'd started doing remarkably well on integrating himself into the society of the party. He at least looked the part in his flowery clothing, and he could sort of mimic the calm, collected, airy sort of talking that a lot of them seemed to have acquired.
On the other hand, he'd just spilled an entire tray of drinks on someone, so there was that.
"I...am so sorry."
There had to be napkins somewhere, anywhere. Nathaniel glanced around hastily, trying to find at least something to dab at the ice and liquid slowly spreading across the lady's dress, and, well...maybe he should just leave her to it and make his escape now.
Yes. Good. That was a good idea.
He skedaddled. Quote: 5 - Spill an entire tray of drinks... on her. (Fail)

Nathaniel Parrish - 25 / 25 - one more try
Well. It could have been worse.
No, no, Nathaniel thought, as he scrambled away, face aflame. No, it really couldn't have been worse, he'd just ended up in the lady's lap and that alone was enough to send him scampering off in an entirely different direction, far away from said lady and said lap.
Maybe he should just find someone else to talk to.Quote: 4 - Spill your drink near her. 2 - You somehow ended up in Melany's lap. (Fail)

Autumn Smith 25/25, failing at life So somehow, she was back. This time, autumn very deliberately spilled wine in front of the lady, with what was perhaps an over-exaggerated "oops" on her part. Looking ever the part of a demure, shocked woman, she murmured her apologies to the assembled crowd, the spinel woman's eyes falling upon her. This time, she had it for certain- most definitely, this was a perfect distraction. There was a great crowd, and Autumn seemed so put upon and pathetic...
...So pathetic, in fact, Autumn couldn't make her escape back to Thorne in ********]

Chris Watts || 25/25 || Failing and probably going to die
Chris, in his infinite amount of wisdom and guilt, decided that he was going to try help Thorne out long enough to let him have a drink. It was easy enough to approach her to ask for a dance - he had already been pulled onto the dance floor many times that night by other patrons. He was confident enough that he could pull this off without too many incidents.
It was, of course, that the minute he asked her to dance a group of people pushed by and push Chris, quite gracelessly, into her lap. He jumped up with a rather hasty apology and made his retreat quickly.
He would have to try again, when she looked like she wanted to murder him less.

Chris Watts || 25/25 || TRYING HIS BEST AND SOMEHOW SUCCEEDING???!?!?
He was going to try again, because he wanted to help Thorne. He approached again, in the hopes of asking her for another dance and... to his luck another rowdy partygoer bumped into him and his glass of wine went across the floor, very luckily not on Melany and only just barely glancing Chris' shoes. Well, it was cliche, but it would get her attention and so he ran with it.
"Oh, my gosh, I'm so sorry," he apologized, hands hovering. "Can I get you another drink, or a napkin, or anything?" He asked, mouth moving a mile a minute as he kept her attention. It was going on well, although she looked like he wanted to murder him but for all he knew, it was from the past time where he ended up in her lap.
When he felt enough time had passed, he excused himself, somehow managing to squeeze away from the group and hoping that she wouldn't send someone after him to kill him. He stunk of wine too, from what had gotten on his shoes, but he had managed to do his part.
"Sorry, but I managed to distract her long enough, I think," He said, offering a small smile.

Unfortunately, the colony representatives had come hungry. As a result, the commotion they caused ended with them eating part of Melany's chair. Now it no longer really functioned as a chair. This did not reflect well on Leila. Not at all.

Thorne watches Chris's return with wild eyes, as though surprised that the blond had come back at all. His head tilts to the side, and he considers Chris for a long moment before touching one of the plants at his side. Despite his claim to getting drunk, he doesn't seem to be doing a lot of drinking. Maybe he really just wants to stay hidden, out of sight?
"You really shouldn't approach her again. She has an excellent memory," Thorne says, "and the ability to recreate the fall of Rome if she really wanted. But thank you... I - " He paused, cuts off, considers, and closes his eyes.
"The Lady Red. She's someone you should keep an eye out for. She is a potential tithe as well." His eyes lid. "That's all I know."

Zac Bantock - 25/25 - telling bad jokes.
Well, it should have been easy, just distract her, just distract her while he finished a cup of wine.
Right, he should have chosen any other option, but instead he tried a joke. He did not do well with jokes. "So... do you know why 5 was afraid of 7? Because... Seven was a registered Six offender"
He was pretty sure that couldn't have been more awkward if he had tried to be deliberately. Her expression screamed 'cute, now go away' without needing to say a single word.
