Mal had started a large and glorious bonfire on one of the rockier parts of the shoreline. He'd gone to the kitchen to ask Hestia (nicely) for marshmallows and hot dogs and other things for a bonfire, and been denied. So he'd gone through the Hearth for supplies, and come back trailing a rolling cart's worth of goodies.
The bonfire was still high as the sun dipped toward the horizon. Even if no one showed up to take advantage of the collected goodies, Mal was pleased enough by the offerings; there were marshmallows and hot dogs, chocolate and graham crackers, chicken wings and skewers of meat already set up, and beer and wine in coolers filled with ice, and extra blankets and pillows set up. He'd found a rock for himself, and sat on it with a beer, watching the sun set behind the orange-yellow flames. He was wearing his second best pair of glasses, dark blue frames instead of black; his usual pair had gone into the first fire earlier today, along with the remains of the suit from the Alps.
Maybe this would go a little way toward convincing people that he was not actually a complete jerk; Mal didn't know if it would, but he could cross his fingers and hope.

Mathilda hummed to herself as she strolled along the beach, taking in the water. It was nice to be back from the Alps, and it was nice to unwind. As she continued, she noticed a glow in the distance. She kept her pace even, the smell in the air a wood fire rather than a fire. As she got closer, she noticed that it was a bonfire, and that there was a person attending it. It was Mal, she saw. She hadn't seen him in while, and perhaps now would be a good time to catch up. "Mal! Guten Nacht!" She smiled at the man, which got wider when she saw the food. "Having a party by yourself?"

Mercy had just come back from her trip not too long ago, wondering how on Earth she had managed to carry food AND her speakers towards the beach. Mal did mention starting up a bonfire at some point, which seemed like now apparently. She made her way towards the big glowing light, almost tripping here and there while she pulled the small wagon she bought just for dragging large quantities of things. She set the food into the already crowded wagon, stopping it by the rest of the goodies, giving Mal a playful punch to the arm. "Told you I was going to bring KFC~ Were you planning on being here by yourself or something?" She saw a familiar head full of light blonde hair next, beaming before running and hopping onto her back. "MATH!!! Fancy seeing you here lady~" Hopefully this wouldn't earn her a punch to the face but she's always wanted to do that to someone and Mathilda was just there and she was excited to see her.

Mathilda jolted as a body collided into her. Turning, she noticed that the body clung to her, and the body was attached to a familiar head of hair. "Mercy! Hallo! Long time no see!" Laughing, Mathilda was grateful she hadn't default to attacking. Grabbing Mercy by the waist, she gently set the girl down, noticing all the food she had brought. "I was just out for a walk, but did I miss a memo? It looks like you're having a Party. Hope I didn't interrupt or anything. Es tut mir Leid."

"Not by myself--" Mal laughed at the punch on his arm, but waved with his bottle of beer, indicating Mercy and Mathilda both, and the empty beach, lit red by two kinds of fire. "But for anyone who wanted to show up. I thought it'd be a nice, informal kind of break." And then he grinned, like he couldn't help it. "And Mercy brought KFC." For the Colonel was all Mal could think again, but it just widened his grin. "Beach parties are for everyone."

Rob was still drinking copiously, but he'd gotten his head screwed on tight enough again afterd returning from the adventures in the Alps that he'd finally gone through the Hearth to fetch some supplies from back home in San Francisco. His favorite guitar was strapped to his back (reminding him of the weight and heft of the greatsword he wielded not that long ago), and he carried a box of various craft beers he'd been hankering for. It occurred to him as he stepped outside the building that he could have gone to London and gotten some good old British brews instead. Maybe next time. For now, these would do. Looking around, he spotted a light down by the beach. He tilted his head, puzzled. Was that a bonfire? Instead of turning left to head back to the Dionysus dorms, he turned right and headed toward the fire. As he approached, he spotted some familiar faces -- Mercy was there, and tall Mathilda (he remembered her from the Two Truths and a Lie game), and that guy Mal he thought was his name, who'd spoken up so eloquently in the meeting and gotten mauled by the giant bird too. What was going on, he wondered. He approached the group with a grin. "Hallo. Is this for anyone or just you lot?" he asked. Then he smelled the KFC. Oh god, when was the last time he'd eaten anything? "Who brought the chicken? I kind of love you right now."

"It's open attendance." Mal had a spot on his rock-- still sun-warmed, and he'd shifted to sit Indian style. He pointed at the coolers. "Beer, wine. KFC's from Mercy, there are s'mores fixings on the far right and real food between that and the beer." He caught sight of the shape on Rob's back and brightened. "Is that a guitar? Acoustic? You brought the music, you are now extremely welcome. Every bonfire needs music."

Mathilda smiled as Rob joined them, nodding as the man spoke about the brought food. "If the wine is ready, darling", she said to Mal, "I'll some of that. I'm not really a beer kind of gal." She hummed in agreement to Mal's questioning of Rob's instrument, before bending to sort through the food. Lowering herself to the ground, she grinned when she found hot dogs. The weren't wurst but they would do.

Being back was different, she was different. She had held lives in her hands, and while some had made it back some hadn't. Upon coming back to camp she went back home to New York for a while. She considered taking one of the parts in an upcoming Broadway but decided against it. She wasn't ready to go back to her normal job just yet. She knew one day the call of the stage would bee enough to bring her back, that she couldn't resist it forever, but for now camp was where she belonged. Training so that she would be more helpful next time. Most of the time spent at camp was training, she really hadn't been as good with her bow as she thought she was, but she needed breaks just like everyone else. This particular break brought her to the beach where she spotted a bonfire. As she got closer she spotted a few of the Chosen that she had seen at the fight. It seemed they were having a party of sorts, there was even music and drinks! Never one to turn away an opportunity for a little party she got closer. "Room for one more?" she asked with a smile.

Setting the box of beer down, Rob straightened then sketched an elaborate troubadour's bow to the gathered Chosen. Looked like he had paid his way into the impromptu party. "Cheers, Mal, thanks. Yeah, it's an acoustic guitar. I play a bit," he grinned. He eased the guitar case off his back and set it next to the beer, then plucked a piece of chicken from the KFC bucket and sat down, noshing happily. Food before music. And this gave him time to go through his mental music files and recall songs that others could sing along with (and that most everyone would know). Finishing the chicken like he hadn't eaten in weeks, he removed the guitar from its case and noodled around a bit, checking to see if the instrument was still in tune. This was a different climate, after all. "Dunno if I'm up for singing myself," he advised the group with a wry little smile as he adjusted the tuning on one of the strings. He nodded in a friendly manner at the latest arrival, whom he recognized from around the Dionysus dorms, didn't know her name. Cute, though. So many cute ladies here. "Any requests?" he asked, reaching for the cooler.

She didn't realize she was that easy to lift. Mercy gave Mathilda a curious look while she was being lifted, smiling at the word party. "Well yeah! Mal did say he was going to have a bonfire~ I told him I would bring KFC if he did and welp, I did it for the Colonel!" The day they fought that giant bird chicken would be a day that would forever live on in their brains. Kinda like that great speech Teddy Rosevelt did on Pearl Harbor.... Beer wasn't her choice of drink either, choosing to pick a wine cooler after Mathilda had grabbed hers, taking a small sip when she saw a familiar head of blonde dreads heading towards their little group. "Rob! How are you?!" She looked over at the chicken next, cracking up. "It was me~ I am now the goddess of chicken and I have answered your prayers to eat the chicken of the fried~ Worship me." For she was the goddess of chicken...Erm...She wasn't even drunk yet and she was acting silly. Meh, oh well. The arrival of some one she hasn't seen caught her attention, though. She was quite pretty, but then again most of the chosen she's met have been pretty in one way or another. "Hello!~ Haven't met you yet! Name's Mercy" She held her hand out, wondering if that greeting was a bit too powerful. Maybe she should tone it down a bit? "What kind of songs can you play Rob?"

Mal slid off of his rock to get one of the bottles of wine-- this was a hearty red that he hadn't chilled, and he used an opener to pour a plastic cup half-full. "Try this one. Supposed to go well with chicken, Mathilda." There was something a little wicked in his smile-- supposed to go well with chicken indeed. At the new voice, he turned a little. "More than room for one more. Wine or beer?" He gestured to the appropriate coolers, and then to the bottle of red in his hand, already opened. "White's on ice, red not so much. Though we can do that too, I suppose." There was certainly enough ice for it. Mal recognized her face vaguely from the damn birds. "I'm Mal. Pleasure to meet you. Food over there-- sweet to the left, KFC in buckets provided by Mercy, hot dogs and other to the right." He pointed each one out for her. "I thought a bonfire would be a nice way to relax." If she didn't want wine, he'd put the cork back in and set the bottle down before he retreated back to his rock. It was still warm and he'd be damned if he gave up one of the best seats available. "I feel like Margaritaville would be appropriate in this case." He toasted Rob with his bottle of beer as he settled back into his position on the rock, tucking his legs under himself again. "Or Hotel California."

Mathilda laughed at the look on Mercy's face, before nodding as the girl rattled off about her chicken. She watched the girl talk as newcomer she didn't recognize entered the party. She waved at the girl, before turning to Mal. "Oh, really now. I know much about wines, I have a bit of french background." She grinned salaciously. "But since it's your party, I'll take your suggestion." She winked, before turning to Rob. "Music would be wonderful dear! I'm fine with whatever you wish to play!" She gently sat herself down, careful not to spill her drink.

The others were friendly, and it seemed like the party wasn't a closed one. Taking Mercy's hand she said, "Nice to meet you Mercy! I'm Beaulah, but Beau is much easier."When Mal offered wine or beer she had to think about it. Really she could drink either, but wine tended to leave her feeling lightheaded after only a few drinks where beer didn't have such a negative effect. "I think I'm going to stick to beer for now, thank you. And it's nice to meet you as well Mal." Short names were nice, easier to remember. When the choice of songs was brought up Beau perked up. She loved to sing, and even though her voice was more suited for Broadway that didn't mean she didn't enjoy singing other kinds of songs. "Oh, I think Hotel California would be awesome."She moved to an open seat, close enough to the fire to keep warm but not close enough to burn her. This kind of light hearted fun with the other Chosen was something she needed, it would be cool if more joined them but the little group that was already there seemed like nice people. She wondered which God or Goddess they belonged in, only knowing Rob since she had seen him in her own cabin.

Rob extracted a beer from the cooler as the conversation drifted around him. This was the perfect kind of party, given what they'd all been through, low-key and full of comradery. He'd have to thank Mal at some point for throwing it. He popped open the bottle and took a sip (not a bad beer, not his preferred but he didn't want to dip into his supplies unless he had to right now), then set the bottle down on the ground beside him. Time for the tunes. Removing the guitar from its case, he cradled it in his lap and checked the tuning in case travel by Hestia's flames had done something to it. He strummed through some random chords, then deftly fingered the intro to Led Zeppelin's Over the Hills and Far Away. "I can play pretty much anything you can throw at me, Goddess of the KFC," he teased Mercy as his fingers moved over the fretboard. But the request had been made by Mal for Hotel California and seconded by Beau. so he stilled the Led Zeppelin and started playing the intro to the Eagles song. "I can sing this one -- me voice is raspy enough. And it gives me a chance to practice my bad American accent," he grinned.
