The Olympics were a time when wars and more used to be set aside, a time when the city states would gather together to compete together in game. It was, in part, to perform for the gods but also it was a time when treaties and other things could be formed. It was a time when there was peace in the Empire.
Now a days that was not the case. Now there were terrorists and they could potentially ruin the games if they decided to attack, even if it wasn’t in Brazil it would color and taint this time. The Olympics were something which should be precious and honored, a time when everyone should be at peace...and yet he knew it wasn’t possible, not with how people were now. Not with in this day and age when a much larger world participated.
Biting his lip as he shuffled his way to Terry’s house, intent upon watching the opening with him tonight, even though he knew it meant hours of sitting in front of the tv, he wondered how it would be in only eighteen short months. Years went by so quickly and yet...and yet these next eighteen would seem to go so slow, just as the last several months had. Ever since Sochi time had dragged on. Soon though his home country would have the eyes of the world on them as they played host to it - to the world.
They had, after two failed bids, won the honor of hosting the winter Olympics and he could only hope that their brothers, and sisters, in the North would not try and ruin or taint the games...that they would not bring some sort of harm to the games with the whole world there whether physically or there from a distance. He wished they could be one Korea, united again finally, and hosting but that was not possible. Reunification wasn’t something that seemed close at hand. It would happen though, it had to, but when...it was something the people in the South wanted but how many in the North did?
Shaking his head, in an effort to banish those thoughts, he let himself smile as he thought of the games and the presentation they had made. He had watched them all, had stood with many people hopeful as the winners were announced. He had felt the loss like everyone else...and then he had felt the excitement just as everyone else had when they had won. They would get to show themselves to the world, introduce their culture, and get to tell their story - their history.
He could remember watching in awe when Beijing had hosted the summer games in 2008, the colors and richness...it had been mesmerizing and enchanting. He wondered what it would be like when they presented themselves to the world. He had seen a hint, he hoped, of what would be in store for the world when they had taken the flag from Russia in Sochi. The song picked as their anthem for the games...it was fitting - Arirang.
Tonight though he wondered what Brazil would show them - all of them. What would they learn about the tropical country that would host the world for the next two weeks. What would the games bring? He was excited to see it all, he enjoyed the Olympics ever since he was little. It was something to be enjoyed, learned from, and it was a way to bond people to each other. To talk about athletes that might not be from your own country but were just that good - that amazing.
He had heard that the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt, had been injured and had been recovering and had hoped the man would be in Brazil and finding out he would be - he’d been pleased and happy. He wanted to see him run, just as much as he wanted to see the American swimmers, he enjoyed the games for the sake of the games rather than the countries themselves….though he would admit that he would prefer Korea to beat Japan in every instance….but that was a history lesson there really.
Shuffling up to the others front door he raised a hand and knocked before waiting. A plush bear was held to his chest, a bag for staying over night was over his shoulder, and a small South Korean flag held in one hand as he lowered his chin to rest atop the bears head. It was a black bear with some spots of brown on it’s fur so it looked similar to one of the two mascots being used in the South Korean olympics in 2018.
Shifting his weight as he waited his dark eyes wandering about. Flipping his hair from his face he wondered how much, and how, to get tickets for the Olympics. It wasn't something he’d ever had to think about but since the win for his country he had wondered...and he’d wondered over what was sure to be a steep price. He wanted to go, had to go if you asked him and got an honest answer, but could he do it and could he ever hope to afford it?

As the time got closer and closer to when the Olympics opening ceremony would start, Terry could feel his excitement rising. He always enjoyed watching the Olympics when the years arrived, though of course had his favorite parts such as figure skating during the winter years, and the opening ceremony would never get missed in this house. Of course he knew a part of his happiness was the fact that Seung would be here at any moment of time and he never grew tired of spending time with his boyfriend.
He busied himself by making sure they had plenty of blankets and pillows to watch the opening in comfort but didn’t set them up just yet as he was going to wait and see if Seung wanted to watch in his room or out in the living room where his parents and Matt would inevitably join them. Once he had things rounded up so it could be quickly set up he double checked to make sure there were drinks and snacks for everyone. By the time he was done with that he heard the knock on the door and moved to let Seung in with a smile. “Got here with no trouble I hope?”

“Got here fine.” Seung replied, looking up at the other. Stepping inside he went to remove his shoes immediately, a habit ingrained in him since he needed shoes. His own family would be watching at home, it was a thing for his family also, but he’d explained that he was invited to a small party at a friends home. He knew it was a white lie, it wasn’t an outright lie, but he couldn’t tell them he wanted to spend time with his boyfriend and their family. His cousin knew, she had given him a rather pointed and knowing look.
With his shoes off he stepped further inside. “Thank you...should be good opening.” He said, though he didn’t think it could hope to top Beijing’s opening several years back. He was hoping Korea could top it or Tokyo when they hosted the next summer Olympics. There was, and would be for some time to come, tension and mixed feelings between Korea and Japan but...but when it came to the Olympics it should negate such negative feelings - if only for a while and in favor of focusing on sport and the spirit of the games and what they stood for.
Even Seung wasn’t immune to having negative feelings toward japan and the Japanese, and their shared history. He had however been able to make friends with someone who was part Japanese, he had learned their language even, but there were still some feelings there within him and he knew it. He just didn’t act on them, it was how he got on so well with Akihiko in school. But the negative feelings he posessed weren’t an uncommon thing where he was from, he just wouldn’t let it stop him from seeing beyond it with those he knew - like Akihiko.

Terry nodded and closed the door behind Seung, glad the other hadn’t had any problems. “Yes it should, I can’t wait to see what they plan on doing for it.” The opening for the London Olympics had been fun with all of the different literary references as an example of what could happen during one of the opening ceremonies and he was looking forward to seeing what it will be like for Rio. “Would you prefer to go to my room to watch or stay down here in the living room? If we stay down here then everyone else will end up join in I’m sure.” He asked, leaving it up to Seung. He would be happy either way but he needed to know where to bring the stuff so he could set it up seeing how it would start in about fifteen minutes. As he asked though he did take Seung’s bag with a smile so he could bring it up to his room for him no matter which way the other decided.
Quote:
“Can stay here with everyone….up to you.” He answered with a tilt of his head, dark eyes focused on the other. He was silently questioning the other, asking if he wanted private time together in the others room while watching the opening or not, he didn’t know and it wasn’t a topic they’d talked on much - intimacy.
“Have some drinks in there...and snacks.” Things he liked, and was used to. He also was perhaps...for the sake of the other...being smart and had his epi pens on him in the bag. Clothing change for when they turned in as well as normal needs for getting ready to sleep, he had come prepared.

Terry looked at the other man and gave a thoughtful look for a moment then shrugged. “We can watch down here then and when it’s over go back to my room.” He offered up with a small smile. “I have some drinks and snacks set aside as well so I’m sure we will have a good variety between us.” He then gestured to the couches in front of the living room television. “Go ahead and take a seat while I put your bag up and grab the rest of the stuff.” Before he went up to his room though he leaned over and gave Seung a chaste kiss.
Quote:
Nodding at the others words Seung moved to get himself comfortable. Taking his bag for a moment to remove the snacks and drinks he’d brought for himself. Letting Terry take the bag up to his room then, for safe keeping, he settled himself on the living room floor. Settled with his back to the coffee table he held the bear, and flag, to himself as he let his eyes watch the tv as they talked about what was going on and what to expect. He wondered, briefly, if there was a way to get Korean subtitles in case during the opening things were said that he didn’t know. Korean was not one of the languages spoken at the olympics, where as French and English both were. Since it was in brazil wouldn’t they also be speaking….Spanish...or what language did they speak there?
Fingers ran through his hair as he turned and twisted his head in order to look around, waiting for Terry to return. His drinks were carefully put onto the coffee table along with the bagged snacks he had for himself.

It didn’t take long for Terry to return with the pillows and blankets he had set aside for the occasion and give Seung a smile. “Cuddle pile on the floor or on the couch?” He asked as he set them down. Once he had the answer he would go and grab the drinks and snacks to add to the ones set there by Seung and then rearrange the pillows and blankets in whichever spot was chosen.
Quote:
“Floor, more space.” Came the automatic, quickly decided upon, answer. Shifting he turned to see what Terry had brought in from the kitchen. His own things were from...home and some were odd flavors, if the other were able to read Korean. Setting his bear down on the carpet covered floor the flag was set onto the coffee table. “Can cover up and watch from the floor.” They could cuddle up and have all the space they could possibly need, no risk of rolling off a couch.
He hadn’t rolled off a couch but he had rolled off his bed a few times, when he’d first come to Destiny city, so he knew rolling off a couch would hurt. “Family likes Olympics also?” He asked staring up at the other before moving to help arrange everything on the floor so they’d be comfortable, or more specifically so Terry would be comfortable.

“Sounds good.” Terry said with a smile. When Seung checked out the drinks and snacks he would find pretzels, chips, some candy which had been check for peanut butter, as well as a couple different drinks such as soda and tea. He had been sure to bring a variety of things just in case his boyfriend had picked staying in the living room like he had. Between the two of them it didn’t take long for the cuddle pile to be made up and Terry sat down before he answered the question. “Yes they do, more then likely they will end up wandering out here in the next few minutes and joining us.”
Quote:
Meanwhile he had purple sweet potato chips, shrimp chips, a fruit drink with aloe pulp in it, flavored water, and banana milk. He had gone with things he knew, things he was comfortable with, even something with red bean paste in it. The variety was wide and something you wind find in a mixed group...a blending of East and West such as theirs was. Bombastic words printed across packages and bright colors would sit next to the neatly packaged items with the small, neat, print. A big different between the two and showed off the two cultures, side by side.
Looking over the different items, nothing how...almost domestic it looked seeing such a thing, seeing something you’d normally only expect to see in a household where one person was Korean and on American, he turned his focus to the other then as he dropped himself into the pile and got comfortable.
“Will be nice then to have them here.” It would feel like a family setting, like what he wasn’t experiencing back with his parents and cousin. He wanted that here as well. Where he could be just a bit more himself.
Reaching for the stuffed bear he held it for a moment before leaving it in favor of snuggling up to Terry. “Competitive family?” He asked wondering how team USA they would be.

“It usually is. More then likely once it’s on and they hear it they will join us out here and take up the couch.” Terry pressed a kiss to Seung’s forehead when the other man snuggled up to him and gave a thoughtful hum. “Sometimes we can be. It depends on the sport, like I know Matt gets pretty competitive about soccer at times. Mom and I both tend to be competitive about figure skating, though it’s not something that will be done now since it’s the summer games. Dad only really gets riled up if everyone else is as he just feeds off the energy.” He said with a chuckle then picked up the television remote and switched it to the right channel, though he muted it since it would still be a few minutes before the opening began.
Quote:
Nodding as he listened to the others explanation he shifted around a bit more so he could play play big spoon to the slightly taller Terry, the other only had an inch on him. Tonight was his turn to hug and hold the other. The plush he’d brought was used as a pillow as he rested his head on it, dark eyes focused on the tv screen even as no sound left it. “Family likes Judo...many medals we get from it.” He didn’t know how many but he did remember as a child, and even till the last summer games, noting how many his home country took in the sport of Judo. Martial arts was a big thing in Korea, as well as Asia in general.
While he brought an arm about the others waist he kept his eyes on the tv to see if anything would be mentioned about the winter games that were in two years, or less really, since Terry did like the winter games so much. He had wondered if there was any possible way to get there for the winter games, to take Terry to see the figure skating and enjoy a holiday trip. Tickets though would no doubt be expensive and he wasn’t even sure how to get them, or find out prices, it would be a nice gift though…
Letting his thoughts drift he lay his head on the others shoulder and nosed his ear gently. “Winter games are lovely, nicer to watch...elegant.” No sweating, or at least not like the summer games, and snow and it’s pureness. The winter games had always been a sort of elegant thing in his mind.
When he heard the others family drift in, just as the opening was about to start, he managed a greeting to them each whilst not moving from his spot under blankets and holding Terry.

While it was more often than not that he would be the one holding Seung, it was just as nice when the situation was reversed and Terry snuggled into the other man’s arms with a smile. “Makes sense from what I’ve heard and seen. While America does have it’s martial arts users, there are many more talented and dedicated people in the Asian countries.” He said with a nod, after all most of the martial arts schools that were taught in the US had some kind of Asian roots he thought.
When Seung spoke up about the Winter games, Terry turned his head just enough to kiss the older man and give and agreeing hum. “They are indeed.” He said then his parents and brother ended up joining them after he turned the sound back on. He gave them all a small wave and a smile, though he might have given Matt a pretend haughty look when his older brother gave him a teasing look at the cuddle pile he and Seung were in.

“Mmm, makes sense. Most started in Asia, still very big and popular.” He said lightly, as there was a need to say such an obvious thing. Martial arts he figured would always be popular in the Asian countries where they originated from. It would be very odd if they faded away until they were no more, he honestly couldn’t see such a thing ever happening. “Judo will be good to watch.” That he planned to watch along with various other things, that was the main one though.
“Winter games I would like to take you to next - will be wonderful.” He said nuzzling the side of Terry’s neck, ignoring Matt’s look and Terry’s returned look. He was not going to get involved in that. Seung would rather cuddle to Terry and enjoy the opening, learn some more about Brazile and enjoy the show they were sure to put on. That was why he always watched the opening and closing ceremonies, unlike some people who were only interested in the sports, he liked the history and the colors and how united everyone was in one place - even though they came out seperated by country.
He would, of course, wave his little flag when his own country came out. He would also frown when the North Korean delegation came out. One Korea really would be nice, to see them all come out under one flag - as one people...as they really were.

Terry humming in agreement, not surprising that the other had the same train of thought when it came to the origins of some of the martial arts. “It will be yeah, especially now that we know some fighting techniques ourselves.” He said with a chuckle. When Seung mentioned how he wanted to take Terry to the WInter games he turned to look at him in surprise, though he could admit some excitement mixed in but mostly surprise. “Not sure how you would have the money for that but if the opportunity arises I wouldn’t say no.”
Quote:
“Would need to find out how much and how to get tickets. Will be good show.” He whispered against the others lips before kissing him gently. Drawing back Seung nudged the other, with his head, to face the tv and watch the opening. “Winter games home in South Korea...will be very nice show.” And he wanted to see whatever opening ceremony up close and personal, he knew they would come up with something amazing...He knew he would get teary eyed from the pride which would fill him. He knew it, he felt it just thinking about it now as he held Terry.
Pressing his face into the others shoulder Seung decided he needed to focus on the opening for Rio’s olympics and distract himself...and that’s when a positively wicked idea hit him and he went right to acting on it.

Terry kissed him back but didn’t resist when Seung turned his to face the television again, after all he did want to watch the opening. It would be fun to see the olympics live, even better seeing it with Seung by his side. “Something to think on then for later.” He said before he let his attention be fully caught by the opening ceremony.
