The growl came from his left, it was hard to see in the darkness even with his small fire. In fact the fire made the shadows dance on the ground only making it worse to spot where the creatures were. Lifting a hand a ball of fire lit in his palm so he could get a better look around him. The light reflected in the pupils of not one beast but two.

Eyes widening as he recognized the fearsome creatures, their fangs glinting in the flicking light. Janarim. A pair of them. Perhaps they were siblings? Or mates? It was hard to say, solidly built one was a bit smaller than the other. Perhaps a mother and its pup? He didn't know enough about the creature to give any definite answer but he could recognize the fact that the growling was not a friendly one.

Taking a small step back, the shifter was...out weighed by his opponents, they could take him down easily if he didn't do something. They were still growling at him, though it looked as if they were only interested in his food. A pang of conflict in his mind as he felt that he could just give the Janarim his food, perhaps they would leave him alone after that. BUt he still had a ways to go before he got home, it wasn't like he would find much else to eat unless he was lucky and came across a town.

Slowly...he went to kneel down, his hands trembling as he went to grab the pack of cured meat. He had taken his gaze away from a split second when the smaller janarim pounced. Taken aback Takoda was forced to douse his flames to instead raise a shield of earth. The impact of the janarim hitting it caused it to shudder and crumble in place. It was a hasty shield and on that he quickly abandoned as the second janarim plowed right through it to get at him.

A small squeak of fear escaped his lips the meat clutched to his chest, he could imagine how hard Jacinthus would be laughing at this scenario. Takoda...the veggie loving shifter protecting a hunk of meat. Taking a couple steps backwards as the bigger janarim ripped through his sand shield effortlessly. The smaller one was still stunned as it had not expected any interference with its pounce. Takoda had to n** this fight in the bud, either he had to cow the creatures or defeat them.

Eyebrows furrowing he raised his free hand into the air, the sand beneath the smaller janarim suddenly jutted upwards like a spout of sand and sending the creature flying. A cry of pain from the creature stopped Takoda in his tracks, the older and bigger janarim snarled and went for Takoda as the shifter went still.

The scent of blood filled the air. A blast of air pushed the janarim back as Takoda went to press a hand to his side. They stood staring at each other, the whining cry of the smaller one as it staggered back onto its feet distracted the other long enough for Takoda to do something drastic. Using the wind to spread his small fire scattering across the sands and into their direction he then fled.
