Personality: Umbra has something of an arrogant persona and a cold outlook towards other - whom she sees as rivals. She struggles with her femininity, and sees it as a weakness to show compassion. So as a result she's a bit of a hard a** on her pokemon (though not unkind) despite the more nurturing instincts that she has. Umbra, though she tries to keep her emotions in check, tends to be a little more flamboyant with her expressions when not in a pokemon battle and she gets comfortable enough with a persons presence. Umbra is Prudent but wrathful, she doesn’t take loss easily and she is usually quick to plot revenge to those who slight her. Umbra can be quick to temper and slow to please. To say that she is without compassion and tenderness would be a falsehood, but Umbra does her best to try and keep people at arm’s length. This often doesn’t last long to those who butt into her life and chose to stick by her no matter how much she tries to push them away.
History: Umbra’s life started off very different to the one that she has now; Originally, Umbra was a young man named Ryuu who was more or less abandoned and moved around from place to place. It was at a distant relative’s house that his fate would change and events would shape him into the person that he is today.
It was uncertain why Ryuu’s parents left him when he was five, but their disappearance was something that was rather unexpected and unforeseen. There were problems in the household just like any other but there was nothing to indicate that both parents would literally abandon their child and leave without any sort of way to contact them. It was assumed that perhaps both parents left in secret with no plans to tell the other what they were doing, and assumed that the other would be there for the child. Unfortunately this wasn`t to be the case and Ryuu found himself alone and too young to care for himself. Concerned neighbours notified the police who were quick to take Ryuu to live with some immediate relatives that were close by. The family was very welcoming, but the scars of being abandoned by his parents prevented Ryuu to get close enough to the family members who took him in. Discouraged that after a couple of years didn`t seem to warm Ryuu up to them, the family moved him to another family members household where once more, Ryuu found himself abandoned by the people who took him in.
Ryuu was starting to get cold hearted and closed off to those who were bringing him into their households to look after him. He got it into his head that he was just unwanted and found it better to just not get attached to anyone as he was bound to move anyway. His way of coping was rather unhealthy and it was a constant frustration to those who brought him into their home. He seemed to be content with doing whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. His isolation from a stable home life gave birth to a youth who had no sense of self or purpose in which to allow himself a balanced life with. Within a couple of years, Ryuu had once more bounced to someone else in the family. The family didn`t take him in for very long when tragedy struck the family and they were involved in a car accident. Ryuu was severely hurt but, but luckily the injuries were not life threatening. Ryuu would need physical therapy in order to walk again and help manage the pain that would likely plague him for the rest of his life, and much to his dismay his new family seemed to have an answer for him that he wasn’t going to like.
With the toll of the accident weighing on the most recent family that brought him in, he was once more moved into the care of other relatives. The family was a big one, but also a wealthy one. This wasn’t a family of spoiled brats, however and though wealth brought with it a privilege that few had, they were always humble and willing to give to others. The strict and no-nonsense approach that the Matriarch of the family possessed made sure that Ryuu was quickly to put in his place when he started to get a little out of control. It was this strong arm that put Ryuu into Ballet and gymnastics to help him get back his mobility and build up those formally damaged muscles. At first, Ryuu was obviously against the idea of doing such girly things but eventually he learned to like –and even enjoy- the exercise and activity to the point where it wasn’t only pain control for him but actually a way to kick his problems in the butt. When Ryuu was fully mobile again, he was sent to a prestigious boarding school that specialized in pokemon training. Once more, Ryuu had trouble fitting in and got into quite a lot of fights with some of the other boys at the school, earning him quiet a lot of ire and scorn from the teachers and his peers. The faculty didn’t totally abandon Ryuu as a trouble maker though, and one of his teachers took on the task of slowly breaking Ryuu out of his shell. The progress was very slow, but complete, and soon, he helped Ryuu get a picture of what he wanted for his future and started to get a vision for which way that he wanted to go in life.
The good times were not to last though as something would happen to change Ryuu’s life in a most unforeseen and complete way. One of the older siblings in the family had captured a Jirachi and had brought it home for the holidays. The pair had gotten into a petty squabble and the older sibling absently wished that Ryuu was a girl instead of a boy, because perhaps then, he wouldn’t be so hard to deal with. Though the wish was an absent minded one, Jirachi took it upon himself to grant the wish and slowly Ryuu would find himself becoming less of a man and more of the girl that his sister wished him to be. It started off easy, Ryuu getting usually moody but soon the changes started to get physical. Horrified, Ryuu went from doctor to doctor to try and figure out what was happening to him but the doctors couldn’t find a reason for the sudden gender swap that the young man was experiencing. School became hell, and the tough guy turning into the cute chick was more than funny enough to fuel amusement among his peers till graduation. Umbra wasn’t without her supporters though, the Patriarch and Matriarch of the family made sure that their newest daughter was as comfortable as possible, and the teacher that took the time to crack through Ryuu’s shell was also a steadfast ally for him. To make things easier for Ryuu as he traveled his guardians changed his name to ‘Umbra’ so that he could have a fresh start and make a new road for herself. Umbra was reluctant at first to adopt such a name, but even she had to admit that Ryuu no longer fit her anymore, and having a male name on her pokemon trainer card was going to be really awkward for her during her travels. And so it was, that Umbra graduated the Prestigious boarding school and was able to start her adventures as a pokemon trainer. Before she left though, the immediate family got together and presented the group with Eeveelutions to start their journey off with. There was something of a lottery to make sure that everything was fair and although she didn’t get her first or second choice of the Eeveelutions she got a Jolteon which she was sure she could incorporate into her unplanned team easily. Now in Kanto where her adopted parents lived not far from, Umbra is about to start her journey to find Jirachi so that she can change herself back to the way she was.

Likes: Umbra loves adventure and journeying into the unknown. There is nothing more thrilling to her than discovering something new or experiencing something that not many others have. Umbra has an interest in challenging herself in whatever she does. Sometimes this means giving herself specific handicaps when it comes to doing something and sometimes it means that she takes the longer, more difficult route around the mountain. Umbra really loves to swim and has an immense curiosity about what lay at the bottom of the sea. Umbra’s favourite foods are of the spicy variety. Ballet and gymnastics have become something of a stress relief as well as pain coping mechanism for Umbra.
Dislikes: Umbra doesn’t tolerate fools very well, her arrogance means that people who have less knowledge that she does earns her distain. She also has little patience for those who are impulsive and leap before they think. Umbra’s careful and calculating nature leaves little room for other people who are not as forward thinking as her. Umbra really hates bitter foods and doesn’t care much for bland, tasteless food. Umbra doesn’t care much for the cold either, she loathes places that are colder than what her tastes allow and won’t be afraid to complain behind her countless bundles of clothes.
