She had been alive for a long time now it seemed and she had thought she would pass onto the next life alone, with no one to remember her. She was more than pleased that she was proven wrong. It seemed that the Grand Weaver had other plans for her. She had met Pelinore one fateful day as he escorted her back into the city from delivering information to the Phoenix Army. She had wanted to do something useful with her life since she hadn't ever really done much else before and now here she was. Staring down at the sleeping form of not one, but four beautiful cubs. She had never thought the weaver would be so kind to allow her to raise children in such perilous times but here she was. And, she wasn't alone in this. She couldn't help the swelling sensation of pride that grew within her heart and the love and devotion she was feeling towards the sleeping bodies she had yet to get to know. Patiently and eagerly she watched and waited for them to stir.
The beating of her own heart was the first thing that her mind focused upon. The slow steady rhythm in the darkness was all she listened too for what seemed to be a long time. Eventually thoughts stirred but they were slow and had no sense of time or boundaries. Movement outside of her train of thought caused her to focus on it and she realized it was part of her. After a few more moments of it moving around she realized it was her tail and her ears flicked slightly as she heard the sound of earth moving beneath the swish of her appendage. After taking a moment to register the sounds her eye's opened and blinked as light hit her iris's for the very first time and she focused on a form not to far away. The creature was tall, dark and had silver markings. After a moment more of focusing her brain registered it was her mother and she was her daughter. Her eyes and body became aware that she was not alone where she lay. She was surrounded by others that she recognized as siblings. Rising up into a half laying/half seated position she took a moment to look at them all and record them to memory.

Cendrillon only stirred because one of her siblings began shifting beside her. The cluster of fur and paws, each with a steady rising and falling of their little rib cages, the subtle but warm breaths against each other, and the larger, warmer, more steady presence of their mother was enough to soothe any youngster to sleep. The small shift disrupted the perfect pattern around her, throwing a pebble into an otherwise calm puddle. One shifted, disrupting her, which would no doubt disrupt the others.
The black cub lifted her head and yawned, stretching her tiny pink tongue out as she filled her lungs. Her body arched into it, stretching along her back, into her shoulders, down through her paws, until she was sitting upright with a groggy stare. Whelp. She was up.
Still half-wrapped in the haze between sleep and waking, she lifted a paw and began to diligently lick herself clean. She had no grasp on hygiene or appearance yet, but it was a soothing ritual that stimulated her circulation and gave her mind something simple to wrap around. In short order the haze cleared from her eyes and she lowered her paw back to the ground. Just at the mouth of the cave a shadow darkened the early morning sunlight. She turned, lifting an ear curiously.
Pelinore forced a smile onto his weary features as he padded into his family's den. It had been a rough day of drilling and training. The soldiers had been paired off to spar, claw and horn. The victors challenged each other until one had claimed victory. By the end of it, each and every one of them was taxed to the bone, sported a few new scrapes and bruises, and walked with a bit of a limp. The soreness would sort itself out after a few days, but it was slow going. Shen likened their training to the tempering of steel under a blacksmith's hammer. It was accurate enough, he felt like he'd been laid under a hammer for the last few hours.
Wordlessly, he leaned his head down to bump at his mate's. No doubt it had been a long day for her.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh h h h h . . . ba-dum . . . ba-dum . . . ba-dum . . .
The first thing Adish registered was the blood rushing in his ears, then the blood pumping in his heart. Steady. Strong. Then joined by others. Other hearts. Other beats. Other pressures outside of the one in his chest, but just as warm. Then a new sound hit his ears... A scritching sound, a swishing sound, a . . .
"AH-CHOO!!!"
Before the cub knew what was happening, his sister's tail tickled his nose, and his little body shot up . . . and completely over with his grand sneeze. He found himself on his back, staring at a giant wall of blank. Adish blinked... and blinked again... and once more. Finally, he moved his eyes around, finding first a large body of fur that radiated comfort, then more bodies of fur his own size that probably were startled out of their wits.
Oops.
A sense of... shame? No... Regret? Close... A sense of something came over him that made him feel weird, though he wasn't quite sure what it was, and he rolled onto his side to stare sheepishly at his siblings... And sniffed. And sniffed again. And sneezed again, as a lock of fur was still assaulting his nose. This time at least, the sneeze didn't seem to shake the cave -at least to his little senses-, and he was aware of what just happened. Confused, but aware. His paw found his nose, and he batted at it a couple times to remove the fur.
Well. Ok. That was a thing. Huh.
Once satisfied his face wouldn't explode again, he curled his tail -oh hey, a tail- around his body and just looked around, his mind taking in every detail it could find.

Iokaste smiled warmly as her mate came into the den and bummed his head against her own. "Come and rest, you must be exhausted." She offered to him with a wave of her paw. Plus they weren't exactly running around like hellions so it would be easy enough for her to keep them in line. Turning her gaze back to the cubs she watched them as they explored their little bubbles of space. They were curious and she liked that about them. Nuria's attention was stolen when her brother sneezed and she cocked her head and looked his way. "What was that?" She blurted out rather curiously as she stood up and walked over towards him to inspect his face.

Cendrillon jerked at the sneeze, her ears flying up and her eyes round. What in the realam was that?! Some mighty sound had shot from one of the others. It jarred their whole body, sending a shockwave through the other cubs. She wanted to make that sound too- it was...intimidating.Mighty. It made the others stirr.
She took in a deep breath and opened her mouth, but only another gaping yawn came out. That wasn't exactly what she wanted- but she felt better after it had sighed from her body. Stretching, she rolled over to flop onto a nearby brother and watched her parents curiously.
Pelinore smirked as he padded into the den to join his bonded. The tah flopped between the cubs and the entryway, his paws facing Iokaste's to form a protective circle around their young family. Four little lives born in the fires of war. Perhaps they would know a better life at the end of all this. It hadn't been wise to carve a family- but with uncertainty and misery looming with every sunset, having a little spark of hope was enough to give him strength through the day.
At his mate's comment he sighed, turning away as his ears fell back. "Exhausted is putting it lightly. I can hold my own, but I don't have the fire that the others do." He held up one of his paws and inspected his claws. They still had bits of fur clinging to them from his matches, and each of his pads was sore from the blows.
"They're drilling us harder. Tomorrow we'll learn where to strike... to end another life." His snout wrinkled up. "I think Shen will grow his loyalists and hold his power through the claw and fang."
