It wasn't Zahneel's proudest moment when she let out a shocked little shriel as a huge, slimy frog hit her chest hard. Other than being startled, she determined quickly that she was perfectly fine. The same could not be said for the frog. Holding her flashlight carefully and ignoring Meimu for a moment, she held the frog gently and saw the one of its forelegs didn't look right.
Tucking the flashlight under one arm, she cradled the frog and tried to decide what to do. She couldn't leave the poor thing here to suffer. Growling loudly, she glared in the direction Meimu had gone. Little beast! Hurting something small... well, small-ish just for a distraction. Who knew what else he might do. With a sigh, she tore a fair sized strip from her shirt and took it to the stream where MEimu had been. Soaking the cloth, she wrapped it loosely around the frog. Tomoe or Claire would have healing magic.
"Looks like we'll be traveling together, froggie," she murmured. "I'm not going to leave you here when you're hurt."
Let someone else catch Meimu, she thought. She'd head a different way and hope that she found Naoki. And that Naoki wasn't an awful brat.

"Sign up to see the Forbidden Forest," Zahneel was muttering, though whether to herself or the frog, she wasn't sure. "It'll be fun! Educational!"
She snorted, a sound which seemed to startle her new amphibious friend. Glancing down, she frowned. How badly hurt the frog was, she had no way of knowing. The one leg she definitely suspected had been broken on impact with her chest. Granted, the frog sounded distressed as it ribbited and croaked, but that could be because it's leg hurt and it was scared. But what if it meant something inside had been hurt? Hopefully Tomoe or Claire would know.
She was distracted from her musing by a faint scent. Not Meimu, but the scent she remembered from the hair clip she'd been given to examine. Naoki must have been nearby at some point.
"Let's hope that one isn't a rotten little monster," she murmured to the frog. "At least the scent is going our way, right?"

Tracking while holding a large, injured frog was rather difficult. But thankfully, damp frog was not quite on the same level as rotten pollen and she was able to pick up scents again. And, to make her feel a little better, the occasional footprint was visible. So, she was on roughly the right track.
Still, with her disgust with Meimu and her own uncertainty about whether or not she was doing the right thing for her passenger, Zahneel had to admit her heart wasn't in this hunt. But she'd promised Tomoe that she would help. Another growl escaped her as she trudged along.
"Word of advice, froggie," she muttered. "Think twice before signing up for the tour. Between rockfalls, bees and magical barrier, I'm not sure this is the fun trip I was promised."

Here and there, Zahneel would stoop to examine the ground where twigs seemed broken or where she saw the edge of a footprint. Then, she would sniff the air, nodding to herself as the scent remained faint, but persistent. At least she seemed to be going in the right general direction.
And the faint, but reassuring green glow of the rescue lamp could still be seen, though not as easily as when she'd begun her little hunt.
Sighing, she straightened and made sure that the frog was still breathing before following the trail she'd found.

Almost as soon as she started walking again, Zahneel froze. She'd heard rustling. For a moment, she felt a slight trepidation. It couldn't be Meimu. She'd gone in the opposite direction of where she'd clearly seen him run.
Please, she thought, be another searcher or Naoki.
Still, cradling the frog protectively, she faced the darkness of the forest and assumed her best, stern, but friendly tone.
"Hello? Whose out there? If it's Meimu and he's thinking of throwing another poor, defenseless animal and hurting it, I'd advise pausing and reconsidering your life choices very carefully."
Then, almost as an afterthought, she added, "If it's not Meimu, maybe we can talk. It's getting very late and I'm sure poor Tomoe is so worried!"
