Hmph. So what the other younglings didn't want to treasure hunt with her. It was fine. She didn't need their help anyway. They would just get in her way and steal her treasures. She would just have to go and find everything herself like usual. It was fine. The young hybrid had set her mind on treasure hunting today and that was just what she planned on doing. Her daddy said she was allowed to as long as she didn't get into trouble. He should know by now she didn't get into trouble. Making her way to the beach with her little bucket, she was surprised to see another person much older than her close to one of her favorite spots. Maybe he was there to take her treasure! "H-hey that's my spot! What're you doing?" she called out to him, running over to him bucket in hand.

There were many many tasks the youngest member of the Buhawi was assigned. Sometimes Xewai was told to go catch dinner, other times he was asked to deliver messages to neighboring villages. Sometimes, he even was allowed to go to Oba and speak with some of their people there! But honestly, none of them were his favorite things to do. No, his favorite thing was quiet mornings like this one, where it was just him and the sea. Near him was a shallow hole, lined in a tightly knit net and filled with water. Piled high in it were shimmer stones and small mollusks that occasionally bubbled.
Of course, the mollusks were used to eat, and offered a tasty treat to his team, but the real prize were the stones. They were a shimmering green, with flickers of gold all through them. The very same stones were used to make the cyclone hair pin that Xewai wore in his hair. Although it was really rare to make the hair pins these days, He couldn't help but still try to gather as many as he could, just in case they were needed once more.
What he didn't expect, however, was a little one to come by as he was digging around in the sand. She was a curious little one, not quite looking like the other Matorian children who ran about here, but that was never a problem. In fact, Xewai was excited to see her! If she was here, that meant she had parents who were from beyond the Oba Border! But the youngling didn't seem to be very happy with him.. What..? Her spot?
"I.. Uh... Hello Miss! I am just digging up some snacks and some stones." He looked down the shore... There was no one for a good while in that direction. And then he looked the other way. Nope, still no one... How could he have possibly picked the ONE spot where the little miss wanted to be.
"I apologize If I've offended! I didn't know this was your spot! Did the ocean wash away your name in the sand?"

Liylasa huffed at the older man, trying to make herself look bigger as she stared at him. Was he trying to tease her too?? Oh she was small, but she could try and be intimidating! Glancing into the hole he had been fishing out of, she reached in and picked up one of the stones. It was shiny and looked way fancier than anything else she'd seen in a while. "See that little rocky area over there?" she pointed, trying to get him to look at a fairly large pile of rocks piled around. "That's my base and you are in my area." She was highly offended by the matori encroaching on her territory, but being young and small it made her look more like a cranky child than anything else. Kapoodles Sorry for short posts I am the worst.

Xewai truly didn't wish to cause the youngling anymore distress than he had already done. He truly was a gentle soul in the end, only wanting to make people happy to the best of his ability. So, instead of trying to contend and defend his placement in gathering things, he simply backed down.
"Please do forgive my intrusion, I didn't know that this beach was claimed by someone so impressive! I have been coming here for years to gather these stones, but it seems that I've consistently managed to come when you were not here! As an apology for my error, would you be willing to take some of my findings?"

"Some of your findings? Like that?" Liylasa questioned, peeking down to see his gathered items. The young adventurer worried the older boy was going to trick her in some way, but for now she supposed she could trust what he was saying to her. "I adventure around here, but maybe you can be helpful after all. You're much taller than me after all," she grinned, holding out her hand to him.

"Yup, some of those! See, those pretty stones are used to make things like this." Xewai took the hairpin from his head and offered it for the youngling to take a peek at. Once the stones were polished and set, they looked so different, truly like the treasures that Liylasa might have sought out.
"I AM a little taller! And I can climb pretty well too. What do you need me to get?" The offered hand was happily taken into his own. No one was going to steal the muddy stones, he was sure of it, so he was more than willing to help the youngling who wanted him to tag along.
"If you're a Treasure Hunter, Do you have a title?" He gasped for dramatic effect. "Should I call you captain?"

"Captain or sir will be just fine, thank you," Liylasa nodded, pleased by the older boy's willingness to go along with what she was saying. It wasn't every day she got to convince someone to help her in her quest, so she would use his abilities to her full advantage! She just needed to find a good spot to start her hunt. She had been up and down the beach with her little pail and shovel in search of stones. She knew where some of the good spots were, as well as her little rock hideout. Maybe this newcomer would know even more spots. Then she could widen her hunting range and keep her shiny treasures away from the other younglings that picked on her. "Alright if you have any secret spots you speak up now! I have gone through most of mine recently. Treasure is wearing thin and the supply is high!"

"Well then Captain... My secret spot is always right IN the water. And you have to dig deep. The prettiest stones and shells are always where the water gets knee deep. If you look there and dig in the sand, you'll find lots of good things, promise!" Xewai wasn't quite sure if the youngling's height would have made a difference in whether or not she would be able to dig in the water like that, but that's what he was for!
"I am ready to follow, Captain! First Mate Xewai is here to assist and do all the dirty work!"

"Excellent! You will show me the way and we will obtain all the treasure! We will have all the riches," Liylasa nodded, clapping her hands together in excitement. While the young girl tried to act much older than she actually was most of the time, it was quite easy to tell just how excited she was at the potential of obtaining more treasure. "All the treasure will go to my shelf and look fantastic there." Gathering her pail and shovel up, she motioned for Xewai to lead on. "Come now we must hurry before others try to find the spot!"

"Yes Captain! I will get you all the treasure, and you will be SO PROUD, I promise!" With that said, he quickly went further inland, gathering a quick armful of driftwood, and returning to her, grinning.
"I may not be able to do 'X' marks the spot in the water, but I can put up posts for us to dig! I'll find a bunch of treasure real quick!" Xewai gave Liylasa a salute before he rushed through the water. He could tell with his feet alone where the rocky outcroppings were hiding, and he sank a stick deep into the sand, marking the area nicely, before running off and doing it further down shore. Over and over and over he did this until he had six places marked, then returning to her side.
"Will this do? We can work together, or work on our own markings, but the water gets a little deep in areas. I can do that for you, if you'd rather not get too wet, Captain!"

"No, no. A proper treasure hunter goes in no matter the danger. I am no exception to this rule, first mate," Liylasa explained, completely serious about her statement. If there was something going down involving treasure she wanted to be right in the middle of all of it. Inching closer to the water, she watched as Xewai placed all the markers, debating on if she should just rush in. She knew how to swim of course, but trying to do that and dig was a bit harder. Still. This was her job! She couldn't just be a coward now! "We can work together to dig, thank you. You don't get to have all the privilege here. I'm the captain after all."

"Of course, of course, Captain, but wouldn't even the most proper of treasure hunters know their limits? That's why they have their team, right?" The very idea of the youngling taking unneeded risks in the name of 'treasure' made him worry for her. Would she always be liked this, sticking her neck out for something that really might not be worth it? He could only be part of her crew for a little while, so while he could he'd keep a close eye on her. Hopefully her parents would come and gather her up before he had to go.
"Alright, you have your bucket, right Captain? So what I'll do is I'll dig up as much as I can, and you can wash them off to see if what we get is worth that precious shelf space you're going to give them. Then, when you are satisfied with one spot, we'll go to the next, with you leading ahead!"

"Hm, I suppose that is one way to do it. If you are so sure it is the best plan," Liylasa conceded, wandering close to the water. "Surely we will be the greatest of treasure hunters in the village. Then I'll show the other kids." While the other kids decided not to play with her she would be off gathering grand treasures and having wonderful adventures. They would be jealous of her and she would show them that hybrids weren't inferior! It would be her time to shine with her first mate of course! "We must get to it, first mate! Time is a wasting and treasure waits for no one, no sir. We don't have all day."

Xewai was actually pleasantly surprised at the fact that Liylasa was willing to let him take the lead. She seemed like she was the kinda youngling who wanted everything done exactly her way at exactly her pace. But no, she willingly backed up a bit and allowed him to take charge, leading them over to the first marked place and scooping up as many stones as his hands could carry.
"You know, Captain, that's a sign of great leadership, to let your underlings occasionally take lead. It means you listen well!" His words sung nothing but praises to his companion as his fingers quickly washed off some stones in the water before placing them in her bucket. He'd get one more bucket full of stones from here and then move on.
"If we're lucky, we'll even find a oyster or two buried in the sand. And maybe they'd have a pearl too. Now THAT would be a most spectacular of treasure, wouldn't it, Captain?"

"Indeed, first mate. An oyster would be a great find! I don't think I have ever found one myself. Have you?" the small girl questioned, giving Xewai her full attention. There was so much he knew that she wanted to know about. She was still focused on treasure hunting, but she could at least try and take a moment to hear what else the older boy had to say about things. "So, first mate. You sound like you have a lot of experience with things. Tell me what else you know about stones and such. Or if there's anything else interesting you know."
