Name: Viveka Baslet (Viv, Veka)

Viveka: Meaning "Little Woman"; A name I gave one of my OCs who is a sculptor and future weapons crafter.
Baslet: From the Fairy Basslet, a small, colorful fish.

Blood colour: #3489A8

Gender: Male

Symbol: User Image

Profile:

Viveka is a lovely troll, if he can say so himself. Despite not being on the tip-top of the hemospectrum, he sees himself as the best of his color and displays himself accordingly. Only the finest fabrics, best shoes, and hair care products will suit him, and he's willing to go many lengths to keep it that way. He's not above batting his eyelashes and making compromises for something he wants, and in fact, he seems nothing less than cooperative and considerate. If he can help you just as much as you can help him, it's a wonderful deal.

Like many highbloods such as himself, Viveka is artistic and uses his talent to sculpt things from clay or other materials near his hive. He doesn't mind getting himself dirty in the name of his craft; living by a lake has it's perks after all, and can spend entire days working on and refining a single piece. He aims to become a Weaponsmith one day and fashion weapons mostly for those of higher caste who are willing to pay a high price. As a child, however, he's content selling small metal daggers and glass jewelry from a stand on weekends. Though, if someone has the right coin or are willing to do him a favor, he'll take custom orders.

All pleasantries aside, Viveka is all about his future and how his work can help him afford all the best things in life. His dedication to his work is fueled by anxieties over how the world around him could come crashing down and take everything away in an instant, leaving him at rock bottom without a way to climb back up. He doesn't want to live his life like some sniveling low-blood street trash and this fear alone keeps him up at night over a hot-fire, working himself to the bone and leaving his body tired, breathless, and covered in sweat.

However, Viveka takes great comfort in his belief that he is the best blueblood that has ever been born. Though the hemospectrum keeps him just underneath total perfection, his looks, skills, and earnings reflect and bolster his sense of self-confidence to the point of obsession. If he happens to have a bad day on the job or with sales, it isn't his fault, but the fault of everyone else around him. With all the work he's put into this, he knows that everything he brings to the table is perfect, he doesn't even have to say so. Flawlessness shines right off of them and it reflects back onto him. After all, the beauty of the creation can only tell of the beauty of it's creator, right?

As a blueblood, Viveka is just below the top tier trolls of society according to the hemospectrum, and while he feels that he is the best of his blood color, he doesn't want to challenge the system. To him, the hemospectrum is what keeps troll society sane and functional, and his place is where he was meant to be placed. In fact, he believes that every single troll has been placed where they were for a reason, and if they work hard enough for what they want in life, they should be allowed to take it. For the sake of business and image, he tries to treat everyone who approaches him equally, espescially if they can pay. Outside of work, however, the only trolls he'll give the utmost respect to regardless of how they treat him are purplebloods and seadwellers, because upsetting his superiors is absolutely out of the question. Anyone his caste or lower? He'll respect them as long as they don't act like they're better than him. If they do, he'll gladly remind them of where they belong.

Strengths:

Approachable/Cooperative: Viveka is as friendly as he is gentle on the eyes. He's easy to talk to and eager to work to make compromises or deals, especially if it can be mutually beneficial. Trolls of a similar personality will find him easiest to get along with, but he'll make an effort to work with everyone as best he can. You win more customers friends with honey than you do with vinegar, he always says.

Creative: Sculpting, pottery, and weapons crafting, all of these things are what Viveka lives and breathes. He absolutely loves working with his hands and will get right down and dirty in a pit of clay whenever he wants, even in his best clothes. And when inspiration hits him when he doesn't have his materials around, he carries a pad and pen with him so he can scribble a quick sketch.

Diligent: Nothing stops Viveka from finishing his work or being the best he can be at anything he tries. If a certain piece is being difficult, he won't give up until he's made several dozen attempts. The end result of anything he does is to feel a sense of fulfillment and desired completion. Anything more is a bonus and anything less is more reason to keep going until he gets that feeling.

Flaws:

Anxious: Though sheer willpower alone helps him get through the day, what truly fuels Viveka is a flurry of anxiety. He can never satisfy that little voice in the back of his head that tells him of all the bad things that could happen or ignore it's screams to keep going when he really should be getting a good night's sleep. This is a double edged sword, keeping him both on his toes and up to date with his workload, but never well-slept or truly calm.

Pompous: Viveka knows that he's better than everyone else, even if he won't outright say it. He's loyal to the hemospectrum and knows that it should never be questioned, but he still believes that he is the best of his bloodcolor, and that his creative abilities only serve to prove it. Combined with his good looks and spectacular clothes, it's hard not to see that he carries an air of superiority with him. However, it is possible to push him to the point where he would feel the need to "remind you" of how much more important he is. What he provides is a luxury and he won't have people comparing, critiquing, or out-right criticizing him. His return criticism of you will come freely, sharp-toothed, and with a reminder to "please come again."

Materialistic: All the best things in life, according to Viveka, are bought, sold, and produced only for those who can afford them. These things are everything that he wants and hopes to attain, and he would do anything to get them. The latest trends, jewelry, and clothes are of the utmost importance to him, and blowing through his entire savings to have them is perfectly reasonable to do. Trolls, on the other hand, are valued based on how much they can provide for him. Being a low-blood doesn't necessarily mean that you aren't of value to him, but having money is certainly a perk. Those who can't pay or, at the very least trade something of value, are shooed away irregardless of blood-color or status. However, Viveka won't risk the reputation of his business or himself by blackmailing or selling someone out for money. There are limits to his greed, and putting himself in a place where he could potentially lose everything isn't something he's willing to do.

Weapon: A three pronged trident made of glass and clay, fashioned and fired in a kiln by himself. It matches his blood color perfectly.

Appearance:

His inspiration comes from an OC with the same first name who was a sculptor and future weapons crafter. However, troll Viveka also takes inspiration from Japanese porcelain and pottery.

HEADSHOT BY ME
I RECOLORED THIS AS A REFERENCE FOR HIM PLEASE LOOK AT IT THANK YOU
THIS IS THE CHARACTER HE'S BASED ON
SAME CHARACTER, JUST A STAGE YOUNGER
Porcelain 1 Porcelain 2 Porcelain 3

Hair - Near floor length and clearly very well taken care of because of how sleek, soft, and shiny it is. The typical black. Kinda resembles water with the way it cascades down his back toward the floor.

Skin - Standard gray with a hint of blood-color blush around his cheeks.

Eyes - Almond shaped with eyelashes that rival a model. Certainly uses that to his advantage.

Horns - Small and curled upward. They look smooth from a distance, but in reality they're very rough and have tiny barbs at the top. Running your hand along them could cause a decent cut.

Expression - Coy, but thoughtful. Like he's listening to some good gossip and reflecting on it.

Top - A fine kimono that he had custom made with his blood color. His symbol is embroidered over his heart on the left side. He keeps it tied carefully around him most of the time, but he isn't afraid to let it come loose and hang around his arms, either. However, he doesn't wear anything underneath it, so that's as far as he lets it fall.

Bottoms - See top.

Shoes - He tends to wear sandals with a soft pair of socks, but can be seen just as often without shoes.

Accessories - None

Home: Viveka and his lusus live in a bubble shaped hive close to the lake in Four Fronds. The hive from the outside looks like it's made entirely of thick glass, but this is only the front door. Inside this protective outer shell is an entrance way carved from stone that leads to a ladder down into an underground living room. Every room in Viveka's hive is shaped in a circle or hexagon shape, but all have slightly different color schemes and designs. The kitchen is gray and teal, his bedroom is gray and blue, and the living room is white, gray, and a mixture of different cool colors.

In the corner of Viveka's bedroom is another ladder that leads further downward into the room where he does his work. All of his tools are lined up carefully on his work bench and his pottery wheel and kiln are in close proximity. He also has a multitude of paint cans, cloths, and spray bottles with water lined up on the opposite wall.

Lusus: Echo is a large, dragon-like lusus that is capable of floating in mid-air, as well as breathing underwater. His body is long and winding, but with a definitive end and spine that allows him to sit, bend, and wiggle into tight spaces. Along the sides of his body are three sets of arms with sharp claws (front, middle, and near the end of his tail/behind), which he uses to attack, pick things up, and gather materials for Viveka.

The creature himself is quite old, but in no-sense of the word wise or all-knowing. He gets himself tangled in trees and shrubs quite frequently and, like any old man, forgets where he's going and why. This makes trips anywhere cumbersome for both him and his charge. However, he makes up for this by being useful, caring, and an excellent place to rest after a long day working with clay and fire.

Viveka is close to Echo, but in no way attached at the hip to him, and it's likewise for Echo. This doesn't mean that they don't care for one another or wouldn't dread to see the other die, it's simply an acknowledgement that they can be independent of one another. Echo is a doting, attentive father, but knows that his charge isn't a troll who needs constant supervision or guidance. Over the years, as Viveka has grown through his craft and trials of maturity, they've developed a system of trust and a flexible parent-child relationship. If one of them should need the other more than usual, everything stops and they take care of each other. If one needs more time to themselves for relaxation or work, then the other respects that need and waits patiently. So far, it's been a very good way for them to live and they don't feel a need to change it.

Power: None, HOWEVER, I would be interested in him winning a power that involves bubbles one day, if possible.

Hey hey! Dropping a few notes here.

First off, please note that physical presentation is irrelevant to gender, particularly in Hivestuck’s Alternian canon where gender/gender roles are irrelevant. His appearance belongs in the appearance section!

Is Viveka’s theme based on Japanese pottery? The imagery of his hive and weapon are really vivid, and I’m always interested in seeing where the visual similarities in theme come in!

Why would Viveka’s refined appearance “not show” the fact that he is artistic? Highbloods specifically are interested in arts – and particularly the “high arts” which are… Dirty, to say the least. He seems fairly mainstream and quite commendable for aiming to make weaponry as well!

Self-serving isn’t currently reading as a flaw – it seems as though it’s starkly beneficial to him, given that he stays out of trouble and can avoid issue because of his blood hue. You also mention that he’s lenient for higher-bloods, so that further weakens this! I would consider a different side to this trait, or simply replacing it if you can’t spin it enough.

I’d also consider strengthening his other flaws the same way – he seems to be able to get along just fine even though he acts the way he does, so consider how it negatively affects him on a nightly basis. I’d imagine it’d be hard to make friends or good connections, for instance, but right now it doesn’t seem like he minds all that much!

Finally, what is Viveka’s relationship with his lusus? I love how he’s characterized as an old man, but other than gathering materials for his charge I have no idea how the two interact. Are they on good terms? Is he doting, dutiful, or does he gather materials for his own reasons? Consider!

OKAY, sorry it took me so long! I redid his flaws entirely because I felt that what I had put down before really didn't resonate with him any longer and I didn't know how to make them work. That part of his personality and all of my other changes are in bold!

Also, to answer the question about his theme, I can tell you that Japanese pottery is at least half of his inspiration! Primarily, Viveka is based on another character with the same name that I had at another shop on Gaia. That Viveka was a sculptor that I wanted to shift toward becoming a weapons crafter, but I never got him that far. (He was also far more shy and unsure of who he was, which I did away with for this Viveka) That same character also had a blue/teal theme to him and he liked to wear more feminine styles of clothing. I've edited the form to include references of that character, in case you were curious!

Aside from that, I hope everything looks good! 8D

Looking good! Crit this time around is p small. I'm mostly just trying to wrap my brain around the way his obnoxious and self-conscious flaws interact with each other. They strike me as pretty contradictory considering Viveka seems almost neurotically aware of his presentation. I would think he'd be able to catch himself before doing a number of the bad habits mentioned specifically--or at least be vigilant enough to do them when no one is looking. Similarly, his obnoxious traits are only really a flaw because he's self-conscious. If you wanted to keep his obnoxious flaw, I'd suggest pinning down why he does what he does. Perhaps it's an annoying trait that he doesn't realize is annoying? Or is there something he'd do that would be obnoxious, but also wouldn't interfere with his aesthetic enough to make him want to stop? Is there some important facet of his life that he just can't do without making an a** of himself?

His gluttony flaw is also reading more like an incidental quirk more than a character flaw. Even in the description it seems to be "fixed" by virtue of Viveka packing snacks when he goes out. It's also not a trait many other trolls would consider necessarily bad, since he's not, like, stealing food from them or anything. What we're looking for in flaws are traits that are not just a recurring inconvenience, but also something that could potentially land the character in some serious hot water should it go completely unchecked. To that end, you could potentially expand the definition of Viveka's gluttony to go beyond just his attitude towards food. Are there other areas of Viveka's life where he'd show poor impulse control and a lacking sense of moderation?

Viveka's getting really close! I have two sticking points, but other than that, the rest of his profile reads great to me.

Pompous - The way this reads currently, it's difficult to see a point at which it would actually affect him or others. He thinks he's better than everyone else, but doesn't show or tell it. In fact, a lot of it reads more like a strength than a flaw. If you'd like to keep this flaw, I'd mention circumstances in which it would actually come into play and how he could annoy/hurt/whatever someone because of it. Is there ever a point at which someone could push him enough to belittle them or act like a stereotypical, hateful highblood, for example? Does he reject critique of himself or his work to the point that he responds rudely? Does he carry a tangible air of superiority at all? Use these thoughts as jumping off points and remember that both strengths and flaws should be things that carry significant weight in his daily life.

Materialistic - This reads stronger than his pompous flaw because you mention he wouldn't be above blowing way more money than is necessary or safe. This alone isn't enough, though. Expand on this a little. Some thoughts: Is there the potential for him to view other trolls like he views objects, as things that can be bought and sold? Would he in turn ever treat anyone this way? Would he sell someone out for profit? How would he respond to someone who couldn't afford the price of his work? Are there other ways in which being materialistic can affect himself or others negatively?

I believe I've edited his traits up to what you've asked me to do! But, I've come down with a cold/fever, so there may be something I missed. Please let me know what you think and if I need to add anything else! o uo <3

Hey Bouquet!

Viveka looks really good and I only have two comments, which should be pretty easy fixes:

Pottery and weapon design are two very different occupations, especially considering there are so many different types of weapons, and ways to go about making them. Is he a bowyer, a weaponsmith, a gunsmith, an explosive technician, et cetera...? It's fine if Viveka has multiple interests (as real life people do), but one does not lead into the other.

Based on his personality, I think I have an idea about Viveka's stance on the hemospectrum, but we do need at least a small blurb on it, addressing it directly.

Other than that, I think you're ready to go!

That was quick! I'll do you one the same. (:

The bit about the weaponsmith looks great! As for the hemospectrum, I should have elaborated a little bit more. How does he feel about the hemospectrum, and how does he typically interact with lowbloods/highbloods? Take care of that, and I think you're ready for a stamp!

OKAY, that ended up turning into a new paragraph in his personality, but I think I answered everything this time around!
