User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Klaas adjusted his mask. It was summer still, it felt like. His skin was so hot and his scars were getting irritated from the mask and sweat. After hesitating a moment, the Oban just pulled his mask off and used his sleeves to dry it out and fan himself.

So far in his travels in Tale, he was enjoying himself. He was traveling with someone now, Dem. She reminded him of a mom that he would have loved to have. Not too over protective, let him have his space when he needed it, and what not. She didn't look at him funny when he took his mask off. She didn't have that pitying look or personality.

"Walking is so boring," he complained to her, pouting a little. He'd decided to stick a bit closer to her while in Tale. He wasn't really headed anywhere specific. That much was explained during their talks on the road. The Oban's whole reason of being here was so he could learn what everything was like outside his homeland. He didn't want to be ignorant when he had the opportunity to explore and learn. He would be a complete moron if he didn't!

She had to admit that she was surprised he took his mask off but she said nothing about it. Instead V'demhe rolled her head back to ease the ache in her shoulders. When she heard Klaas complain her long pointed ears gave a small wiggle and she looked at him in time to see his pout. The whole thing made her chuckle. "Would you like to run?" Sure walking wasn't glorious, but her familiars were carrying her daughters and their supplies. Of course they were farther behind than Dem and Klaas were.

"Or if you want I can give you a sword to practice with." Provided that was what he wanted to do. So far she hadn't really had luck with her daughters wanting to be sword wielding women, though Draven had a sword of his own, so there was that.

"No. Running just makes it worse." He laughed a little and rubbed at his scars a bit more. Klaas saw the look of surprise, but he didn't say anything because she didn't. His dreads were piled high on his head, but slowly they were starting to unwind. "I'm just complaining. I don't really mean it," he laughed and stuck his tongue out a bit.

"Besides, I think ...we should probably find some water and go for a swim. The girls might like that, right?" he wasn't speaking loudly in case Dem said no. He really didn't want to get their hopes up.

"..Though I'm not sure about a sword. I've never been one for... actual combat? I .. Hm." He wrinkled his nose at the thought of wielding something so deadly. Nope, that didn't sit well with him for some reason.

Dem chuckled and shook her head as he admitted that he was only complaining. "You better be careful son, On'os might hear you." She mentioned the Oban god of fortune so that she could tease him. While it wasn't part of her belief system she made it a point to know the gods and customs of the areas her children hailed from. V'demhe thought it was the best way.

Hearing him mention a swimming hole she thought about it. Masika would enjoy a dip and Valharii might as well. It wasn't a bad idea. So she looked at Klaas and nodded. "If you think we can find one." She didn't exactly know where to look. Dem hadn't spent much time in the region they were in currently. Which would make it that much harder for her to make sure everything was safe for everyone.

"No? Then what is it you like?" V'demhe found she was both relieved and upset that he didn't like combat. On the one hand it meant he would stay relatively safe most of the time. On the other hand he wouldn't follow her in being a good warrior. Either way was fine with her, so long as she knew he could at least defend himself if it was needed.

He looked around like On'os could be seen in the trees watching him or something. The Oban gave a nervous laugh and then snorted before pointing a finger at Dem. "Don't even tease about that, you know? Don't want to tempt On'os to change what good fortune I've been having, meeting you and yours."

He put his hands on his hips and just bit down on his lip. "We probably can. They've got to be plentiful, right?" He looked around for some trails that might be a little over grown but still navigable. "I mean, it only makes sense." He fanned his face a little more before whistling and adjusting his dreadlocks even higher on his head.

"No... I don't think I could hurt a person, really. Helping them, sure, but hurting them on purpose?" He wrinkled his nose. "It's just not for me. I am a bit of an oddity." Klaas gave her a wink, his brown eyes shining with good nature.

When she noticed that he was looking around Dem let out a laugh. "It's alright, I don't think he'll change your luck." The Alkidike shook her head but was still smiling at Klaas' expression.

He did have a point about being able to find a place to swim. V'demhe might not know much about Tale, but there had to water somewhere. Of course she was distracted from searching when she heard him talk about wanting to help people rather than hurt them. "Do you want to be a healer then?" Dem had to admit she was very curious.

"Possibly. I've thought about it. I don't know if I have magic in me, never tried. But some healers don't need magic, right?" He gave a little watery smile to hide the fact he was terrified of even talking about it. In all honesty, Klaas didn't know what he wanted out of life. He was just kind of living it day to day. No big plans were made because he never knew what the next day, or even the day he was living in, had in store for him.

"It's.. likely that's the route I'll go. Too many people fight. Too many people die and I honestly don't think there are enough healers, magical or otherwise."

So he wasn't sure if he had magic inside him. That would be easy to find out. After all, her daughter Masika did. Still she nodded her head at him. "Yes, one can use what nature provides to heal. Magic is just an added boost." Dem didn't want him to feel that he needed magic to heal if that was what he wanted to do.

"You are right, there are many people that fight and often not enough healers. If you want you could ask Masika to help you find out if you have magic. I'm sure she would love to help out." V'demhe hoped that she wasn't the one making him uncomfortable with the decision. She had learned her lesson with that already when she had tried to get her daughter to use a sword and it didn't go too well.

Ask Masika for help? He rubbed his ear cuff in a nervous habit before shrugging. He might. He might not. Klaas didn't know. "I'm not sure if I'm ready to like.. pick officially?" The Oban took a deep breath and let it all out as he continued walking. He was also looking around for a path that could potentially lead them to a little lake or something to swim in. Even if it was just a river to sit in.

"We'll see how it goes, I guess." He shrugged a bit more and rubbed his hands together before stepping off the main road and down a little trail he spotted. "I'm gonna explore this! Coming with me?"

Knowing that he wasn't ready to officially commit to one path she smiled at him. "Well if you don't want to fight there are still plenty of options." And if he needed the help she would be willing to do so.

As he found a path that looked like it had seen better days she chuckled and motioned for him to lead the way. V'demhe followed after him and kept her eye out to make sure no danger came near him. If he was going to be her little non-fighter then she wanted to make sure nothing happened to him. "Be careful, my little ember, we can't have our healer getting hurt." Her words could have been taken as a jest but she was sincere as she said them.

Little ember? Klaas turned toward her at that and smiled a bit, his face darker from blushing. That was new and he ..really enjoyed it. The Oban with the mask turned back to the path and laughed a bit. "I... Think healer? I've admired them since they helped me with my scaring. Of course... not even a healer can get things right 100% of the time, but at the same time.." He touched the little scaring on his lip, traced it slowly.

"Things happen. They did their best. It's always been really inspiring to watch them. The ones that use magic, you know? I know there are those with practical healing, medication, herbs, potions.. But." His arms moved over his head as he walked, long legs striding easily enough.

"What do you think?"

As she listened she noticed that he traced some scarring and she shook her head slightly. "I think those healers did a wonderful job, Klaas. They helped you and got you to admire them." Dem smiled then and continued to walk with him. "I think it would honor them if you decided to do what they do." Not to mention she could see him helping others. Saving someone the way he was saved. "I will be proud of you no matter which path you choose." Fighter or healer. Dem would stand behind the Oban boy she considered like a son.

Klaas ducked his head a bit at that and laughed. He didn't know how to take compliments about his scars. Some people did find them fascinating and oddly pretty. (He always thought those kind of people were just some weird people.)

"You know," he said after a time of being quiet. "You're.. like my mom only less smothering? It's... .." Klaas sighed and shrugged. "Thanks. Really. I ..would probably go back to Oba the day I met you if..I hadn't had met you." He blinked, confusing himself with words and just made a little face before rolling his eyes. One day he would be a smooth gentleman. Not right now, but one day!

After the silence passed and she heard him say that she was like a mother to him she smiled and nodded her head. "You're welcome." Dem wasn't sure how else she was supposed to treat him. He was a child to her and as such he deserved love and kindness. Of course since she wasn't his real mother she didn't hover like she did with Masika. "If you ever need me then I am here."

Of course she could never walk away from him now. Klaas was family whether he liked it or not.

He couldn't help the grin on his face as he walked with her. He put his hands behind his head and then remembered what he was looking for.

Some place to swim! He darted off first, long legs carrying him quickly off the trail and into some woods. Klaas had a keen nose, or so he thought, and he was trying to sniff out the water. It took a little digging, but eventually he found a small lake that had a gentle stream falling into it. More like a babbling brook than anything. "Dem, come here!" He hollered out, laughing.

"I found a good place to beat the heat!"
