Patches had his reservations in the beginning, but now that he had gotten to know Dolly better over the the past while he was sure, really sure, that he wanted to remain with her for the long term. With that in mind they had gone for a walk at dusk and with the leaves starting to turn to autumn colors things the atmosphere was a bit spookier once they wandered into a thicker part of the forest. This was his Dolly's favorite and everything couldn't be more perfect for this!
She was wandering a little ahead of him, watching the leaves as some tumbled down from the trees with a good breeze. "Dolly...can I talk to you about something?"
Hopefully he did not sound too anxious!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! This was so thoughtful of Patches! Dolly loved it when things got all dark and creepy like this! She had been about to wander a little farther to see if there were still any bugs or other creepy crawlies about when he spoke.
"Of course!" Surely he knew by now he could talk to her about anything and would not be judged for asking. He didn't sound anxious, but he looked it just the barest bit. She cocked her head and her head wings fluttered, reacting to the shift in her curls. "Are you scared of something?" Being in dark scary places wasn't really his thing, but he often would brave them for her enjoyment. "We can go home if you really don't like it."

"No no. It's not that at all." He laughed and nuzzled her. Far from it actually.
"Dolly I...I'd just really like to stay." When they had first met he had been quite sure this would be temporary, a passing thing between fond friends. But now he knew better. "That is to stay....forever....with you."
He had tried to think of some elegant and flowery way to say it, to befit a 'bard' such as himself but he found himself lacking in words for one. "Would you like that...to be my mate?"

Oh...so he wasn't afraid?
Now she was just confused.
But it did not last long, everything was clear once the word 'forever' left him.
Oh. Oh! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! At least he would get the precious few moments to finish before she blurted out her answer.
"YES!" Her enthusiasm startled an owl that hooted and flew away, sending her into peals of giggles.

He on the other hand was a bit startled by the owl. "Whoops!"
At least Dolly had said yes, that was the important part. He was now being given enthusiastic nuzzle kisses which were a quick soother for the momentary fright. "Lets walk for a bit longer before we go home okay?" They had come this far already, might as well keep walking - the path would eventually circle back toward home anyway.

Poor Patches! He tried to be so brave, but mostly he was just good at masking how afraid he was. "Sure!" When they started walking again she made sure to stick closer to him in case something else really scary came along.
It was kind of funny, he had come into her life just after she had visited that Wishing Star thing and made a wish for a friend. He wasn't quite what she expected to find but was very appreciative all the same. Since then they had barely been apart and always looked after one another. She did her best to keep the spooky things (that weren't as nice as her) away and he kept her from fluttering off so far away she might be lost.
