Quote:
When you get home from work, a young man is waiting for you. He's masked and slim and small, his hair color concealed by a light golden hood. "For you," he says, offering you an envelope. It is cream-colored and scented lightly of burnt orange, a strange and charred aftertaste on the tongue. He won't leave until you take it, and once you touch the envelope he simply disappears.

Opening it, you find a heavy key of some light-colored metal and a handwritten invitation:

The Court of the Sorrowful One
requests your attendance on the eve of the red moon
at a dance to honor the tithe of the otherworld.

Come alone or in a pair.
Please arrive at moonrise and appropriately dressed.
The unmasking will occur at moonset.

Autumn was getting really sick of people busting into her place. Staring at the stranger, Autumn regarded him in an entirely unimpressed way. Yet another weird ******** breaking into her apartment. Lovely. She chewed her lower lip, and went over to take the letter. With just enough flare to give the envelope an angry grab, Autumn grabbed it from the stranger, and turned to give him a piece of her mind.

...aaaaand he was gone. Okay. Sure. The fact she didn't even get to yell at him added insult to injury, and Autumn grumbled under her breath as she went back to ripping open this letter. At the very least, it was a beautifully done envelope. The key felt comfortable in her hand as she read over the invitation, brows raised in interest as she read.

Court of the Sorrowful One... so maybe it was someone tied to Pax? There was the Peaceful One, the Prideful One... and now the Sorrowful One. Not that she'd every say it to their faces, but Other Ashdown really needed some better names for its citizens. All this descriptor-name bullshit was bullshit of the shittiest caliber. And she was definitely going to have words with Zac about finding a way to magic-proof their place.

But still, it was an invitation to a party. A bangin' as ******** magical party, at that. Despite herself, Autumn found herself grinning. That meant she was going to have to get together a dress, a mask, a new makeup look...

...Okay. Maybe she could handle magical freaks breaking in for a party.
